Using Race to Smear Obama

White House / Pete Souza

By Eugene Robinson

After the Shirley Sherrod episode, there’s no longer any need to mince words: A cynical right-wing propaganda machine is peddling the poisonous fiction that when African-Americans or other minorities reach positions of power, they seek some kind of revenge against whites.

A few of the purveyors of this bigoted nonsense might actually believe it. Most of them, however, are merely seeking political gain by inviting white voters to question the motives and good faith of the nation’s first African-American president. This is really about tearing Barack Obama down.

Sherrod, until Monday an official with the Department of Agriculture, was supposed to be mere collateral damage. Andrew Breitbart, a smarmy provocateur who often speaks at tea party rallies, posted on his website a video snippet of a speech that Sherrod, who is African-American, gave to a NAACP meeting earlier this year. In it, Sherrod seemed to boast of having withheld from a white farmer some measure of aid that she would have given to a black farmer.

It looked like a clear case of black racism in action. Within hours, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack had forced her to resign. The NAACP, under attack from the right for having denounced racism in the tea party movement, issued a statement blasting Sherrod and condemning her attitude as unacceptable.

But Breitbart had overstepped. The full video of Sherrod’s speech showed she wasn’t bragging about being a racist, she was telling what amounted to a parable about prejudice and reconciliation. For one thing, the incident happened in 1986 when she was working for a nonprofit, long before she joined the Obama administration. For another, she helped that white man and his family save their farm, and they became friends. Through him, she said, she learned to look past race toward our common humanity.

Square, Site wide
In effect, she was telling the story of America’s struggle with race, but with the roles reversed. For hundreds of years, black people were enslaved, oppressed and discriminated against by whites—until the civil rights movement gave us all a path toward redemption.

With the Obama presidency, though, has come a flurry of charges—from the likes of Breitbart but also from more substantial conservative figures—about alleged incidences of racial discrimination against whites by blacks and other minorities. Recall, for example, the way Obama’s critics had a fit when he offered an opinion about the confrontation between Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and a white police officer. Remember the over-the-top reaction when it was learned that Justice Sonia Sotomayor had once talked about how being a “wise Latina” might affect her thinking.

Newt Gingrich called Sotomayor a racist. He was lightning-quick to call Sherrod a racist, too. I’d suggest that the former House speaker consider switching to decaf, but I think he knows exactly what he’s doing.

These allegations of anti-white racism are being deliberately hyped and exaggerated because they are designed to make whites fearful. It won’t work with most people, of course, but it works with some—enough, perhaps, to help erode Obama’s political standing and damage his party’s prospects at the polls.

Before Sherrod, the cause celebre of the “You Must Fear Obama” campaign involved something called the New Black Panther Party. Never heard of it? That’s because it’s a tiny group that exists mainly in the fevered imaginations of its few members. Also in the alternate reality of Fox News: One of the network’s hosts has devoted more than three hours of air time in recent weeks to the grave threat posed by the NBPP. Actually, I suspect that this excess is at least partly an attempt by a relatively obscure anchor to boost her own notoriety.

The Sherrod case has fully exposed the right-wing campaign to use racial fear to destroy Obama’s presidency, and I hope the effect is to finally stiffen some spines in the administration. The way to deal with bullies is to confront them, not run away. Yet Sherrod was fired before even being allowed to tell her side of the story. She said the official who carried out the execution explained that she had to resign immediately because the story was going to be on Glenn Beck’s show that evening. Ironically, Beck was the only Fox host who, upon hearing the rest of Sherrod’s speech, promptly called for her to be reinstated. On Wednesday, Vilsack offered to rehire her.

Shirley Sherrod stuck to her principles and stood her ground. I hope the White House learns a lesson.

“Fight the Lying Fascist Bitches!” ???
Recently, a Sergeant First Class in the USofArmy was
sentenced to prison for raping his step-daughter
over a six-years period. She was deathly afraid of
him, rightfully so, and told no one
until recently calling 911.
In essence he was a trained,
assassin-type, and intimidated the family with angry
shouting, his wife lesser, an experienced nurse.

A former member of his platoon testified that the
SFC once ordered him to beat-up another
member (male) of the platoon.
The solder asked, “why would I want to beat
him up?” The SFC answered, “then he will be your
bitch forever.”

Thus, may we conclude that the puke-up, “- - lying
fascist bitch” applies to both female & male ???

Or, only to you ?

Anarcissie, - “Sarcasm may be effective in some ways, but it’s a blunt instrument.”

-

WHUMP!

But I am truly serious.

The media, by and large, are most agreeable to our narrative.  Many are active in giving our agenda some real legs.

But, Brothers, I implore you to understand, I have these right-wing EXTREMIST bloggers asking to explain the dichotomy in our substance.  Comparing several actual violent beatings, while calling a black man a Nigger, while there are no incidents of violence from the tea-baggers themselves is becoming hard to explain. The tea-racist’s hateful placards, which can be counted on less than one hand, does not yet compare to that type of violence against persons.

Us steadfast diehards is not my concern.

I think we need to ramp it up HUGE.  I think we need to HIT THEM in such a way which will compel them to hit back.  The Lilly-Liver’d Pansies won’t hit back!  We need to have the violence coming from THEIR side!

Seriously, Brothers, I need suggestions.

ITW may be interested to learn of the SEI television commercials now airing which equate border fences with the Berlin Wall and Nazi Germany concentration death-camps.

What we clearly see here, Brothers, is a deliberate attempt by the fascistic, brown-shirted, Tea Party Moon-Bats subversively controlling the liberal and progressive SEIU organization.

These same ignorant tea-racists were also responsible for subverting SEIU mebers into at least three violent beatings of Tea Party protesters this past summer.  One of the victims happen to be black and beaten with a club.  SEIU members were overheard on film calling the protester a Nigger.  Another the tip of his finger bitten off.

Brothers, please.  We need to pay attention.  If we fail to pay attention it is possible, I implore you, it is possible for some people to believe that its our progressive-minded friends and contributors who are responsible for heightened fear and violent, oppressive, behavior.

We need to keep up the pressure in creating the right types of brands on these tea-baggers.  We can’t cry and whine of the unfair behavior of violent racists by being a steady force of violence and open racism.

Brothers.  THEY are the violent and racist fascists.  Never let down our guard!  Fight this battle in the media and in the streets.

Fight!

“Crackers nor Niggers”, but rather the “Rothschild”
types, who had Jesus of Nazareth crucified.
Addiction to power&control;?  Has not altered.

There are no virtues in either the democratic party

All such palaver is as valid as a
Hillary Clinton $3 bill. Both parties
are political puppetry of “Rothschild types”.

When will the magnanimous, critical minds
begin to apply the nit-picking

to Mrs. Hillary Clinton?
THAT WOULD BE A WORTHWHILE VENTURE !

It might possibly even reveal her personal
“hit list,” which is in addition to the
Red List, Blue List, Yellow List, etc.
Also, the “Homeland Security”
compilation of patriotic Americans who
support the U.S. Constitution, whom the NAZI/MOSSAD

Have the assassinations begun secretively?
Other than the fatal poisoning of
Gulf Coast residents by “the Queen´s men”?

It isn’t the Democrats that are focusing on race, it is the Republicans who are the fact distorter.

You seem to have the Democrats confused with the Republicans and it is no wonder, since Bill Clinton was the best Republican ever, according to Conservative Republican Alan Greenspan.  But there are Liberal Democrats on the Liberal side of the spectrum because Governor Howard Dean and Democracy For America are working toward that end, although it will take time, democracy is moving back into place; democracy can only be found on the Left side of the political spectrum, NEVER on the Right, regardless of what the Republicans tell you.

President Obama is not Bill Clinton.  President Obama is a Democrat having to deal with an overwhelming supply of Vichy Democrats in Congress or he would have done far more than he has done.

No matter what, President Obama will do better for the country as a whole than any Conservative Republican, and all Republicans are Conservative.  Republicans will only tell us about all the jobs they will provide, while they finish outsourcing any chance of ever having anything but a service job for posterity.

In order to have manufacturing jobs, the United States must start manufacturing, which will provide jobs for the citizens of the United States, even if the manufactured products are only kept in the United States.

Talk about fracking, nobody worried about the fracking in Oklahoma.  I live in Oklahoma and the Conservative Right-Wing Oil Conglomerates fracked all over Oklahoma.  It does totally destroy the water table, and much of Oklahoma water table was sacrificed for oil.

So you blame everything the Right-Wing Conservative Oil Conglomerates have done on President Obama.  The Oil Conglomerates have been destroying the earth for years and no president has ever set up an alternative fuel plan, so there are quite a few presidents in the past that failed.  Now President Obama is trying to set up an alternative fuel plan for the future, but President Obama can’t magically make a new alternative fuel source, so you think it is all his fault.  There is something wrong with your reasoning.

You are way off base, I am not for war, Bush said “Bring it on” and put us in war and it isn’t that easy apparently to get out.  Sooner or later, we will have to get out of Afghanistan like we got out of Vietnam—just do it, because it looks like the Afghans do not want to give up their country to invaders and will fight until the last Afghan is dead, which means the United States needs to get out of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.

Israel can protect herself, because Israel has more military power than any nation in the area, with the exception of Russia.

I do believe the United States has a duty to protect her allies and Israel and Pakistan are allies of the United States and I guess Iraq is now an ally, and probably Afghanistan will end up being an ally if the United States defeats the Taliban.

Again, my sentiments about President Obama are exactly as Michael Moore states in the following interview:

However, to my knowledge, no Democrat is openly trying to stir up racism and religious intolerance for political gain.  Palin and Gingrich are, as are lower-level Republicans in other places, like the candidates for governor in New York—one example among many.

Some bad things are worse than other bad things.  As I said, you can’t read the history of the 20th century and take that sort of thing lightly, unless, of course, you’re out of your mind.

Oil resources in the earth were not an issue at the time of the historical event two thousand years ago.

The chief politician-judge said, ” I find no fault in this man.” It was not greed of oil reserves that motivated the religious hypocrites to demand the release of the murderer Barabus, and the crucifiction of Jesus of Nazareth. It was greed for power and control.

The motivation of “this type” has not altered down through the ages, nor their lieing, deceit and fraud. They are now in control of the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Presidency, the U.S. Military, the world banking system, and the western world.

And some of you are their paid puppets, and via your intellectualized propaganda, think you are doing the world a favor. Perhaps, even “pig-fucker-types” are more honest, than some of you.

Also, talking about killing off “crackers” is simply a vent of racial hate, and will accomplish nothing worthwhile. The evil persons among U.S.A. leadership over the past seventy years have represented neither “Crackers nor Niggers”, but rather the “Rothschild” types, who had Jesus of Nazareth crucified.

But then, we must remind ourselves that, propagandists are not paid to spread accurate information, but rather, for their thirty pieces of silver, they spread “PROPAGANDA”. Vile propaganda.

Our fight, the populace’s fight, is to keep the Conservative New Class from controlling the Democratic Party and Congress against the best interest of the populace, as well as keeping the autocratic Republican GOP from taking over the country and putting the country right back where it was.  The populace needs to unite to throw the Conservative New Class out of power in the Democratic Party so that there will not be two elites in our nation, one set of elites is quite enough.

Republicans, because they have all the mammon, will seek to take our country straight to a dictatorship, New World Order, which is not the case with the Democrats, as Democrats are wanna be elites, and the Clinton’s are playing their part in their New Class of wanna be elites really well, as usual:

The ‘free trade’ part of NAFTA is what screwed the U.S. economy these many years.  Amending it to ‘fair trade’ would put those who outsource production to other nations on notice.

Labor, EPA and MSDS standards should be met on goods imported into the U.S., its ‘free’ after that.

Clinton and a majority of republicans screwed America with NAFTA and while it was good for the short term, it has proven the downfall of America’s industrial base in the long run.

Palin is doing all you said, and using HER power that they give her to endorse some of the most vile candidates the GOP has ever put up for public office.  They are all clones of either her or Michelle Bachmann.

They have no interest in “The Contract” that the Constitution provides. They are seeking to rouse a rabble to ride to power to create a “Christian” dictatorship that will make the Taliban look like progressives.

Every step they take is to leading this country into a Mussolini/Franco dictatorship.  It’s what they want. It’s what they are working for.  It’s what they are convincing that “great unwashed” as you call them to give up their freedom and their independence.

As we creep closer and closer to fascism, as the GOP marches in lock-step with Rush Limbaugh, as the Dims talk about current politics as a “food fight” when in reality it’s a ‘hood street fight—only they don’t know it, we don’t even recognize the symptoms.

Re Anarcisse: “There is no doubt that some Republicans have gotten used to exploiting racism and bigotry, hence Palin’s and Gingrich’s intervention in the “Ground Zero Mosque” circus.”

Actually, I’m beginning to think it’s some kind pledge that one must swear to in order to belong to the Republican Party:

FROM TALKING POINTS MEMO: “Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, currently running third in the state’s Republican gubernatorial primary race, says he’s not sure if Constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion apply to the followers of the world’s second-largest faith, Islam.

At a recent event in Hamilton County, Ramsey was asked by a man in the audience about the “threat that’s invading our country from the Muslims.” Ramsey proclaimed his support for the Constitution and the whole “Congress shall make no law” thing when it comes to religion. But he also said that Islam, arguably, is less a faith than it is a “cult.”

“Now, you could even argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion, or is it a nationality, way of life, cult whatever you want to call it,” Ramsey said. “Now certainly we do protect our religions, but at the same time this is something we are going to have to face.”

But as soon as they step outside that line, they are

  Such as Van Jones
  Such as Rev. Wright
  Such as Louis Farakan
  Such as Dr. King
then they are labeled and damned for having the audacity

are quick to throw labels…..for we can’t have them
leading black America away from mainstream politics.
I wishany new party that Black America finds to represent
them, all the best.
Because they have not been represented well by either
party…
This is the same belief that many whites in the tea party
or in the Libertarian Party have…..they have found
something other than the mainsteam two party system to
represent them.
And so have many on the left….who voted for Nader…
Blacks get villified if they dare step from mainstream,
both by the Democrat Supporters and by Republican
supporters.  Blacks are still expected to stay within
the political grounds that whites set for them or they
are considered and labeled militents, racist by mainstream
media and mainstream America.

Other Black leaders like J. Jackson Sr. and Rev Sharpton
suck up to mainstream white controlled political rules.

No, GRYM:

Sarah Palin remains a wretched lying fascist bitch. She is deliberately playing to the worst fears of less-educated White Americans. When she was a mayor, she was corrupt and dictatorial.  When she was a governor, she was close-minded, corrupt and dictatorial. She is ignorant and proud of that ignorance.  She is NOT just like every other politician.  As bad as they are (and they are getting worse), Mrs. Palin is far worse.  After all, she is a secessionist and, IMHO, a secessionist is the worst kind of traitor to our nation.

The “Southern Strategy” isn’t a fantasy.  It was the stated policy of the 1968 Nixon campaign.  I was just a 13 year-old kid then, but I remember it, just like I remember Nixon’s “Secret” plan to end the Viet Nam War in 6 months.

When Nixon was picking his Cabinet my 8th grade teacher asked what kind of people would the President-Elect pick, I said “He’s going to pick all Republicans”.  The teacher got upset and tried to get the class to say he’d pick the best people.  Of course, I was right—Nixon’s first Cabinet was totally Republican, with John Mitchell and Melvin Laird and William Rogers as the AG, SecDef and SecState.  And Henry Kissinger as House Svengali/Rasputin.

ofersince,

I myself cannot countenance Louis Farrakhan’s fundamental message concerning Jews.  The people.  Apart from the State. - I believe no man holds the right to demand of another his Prophets and deny him his dignity.

“Jewish people claim Abraham. Sorry. Sorry. I have to tell you the masquerade is over.” - Louis Farrakhan Atlanta, Ga 6/26/10

-

Without getting into the entire Arab/Jewish imbroglio; you have shared your thoughts on the Jewish State.  What are your thoughts on each of Israel’s neighbors?  Less racist and oppressive?  Less aggressive too?  These are serious questions.

Simple food for thought

In the Persian and several Arab states homosexuality is a capital offense.

Every Holy shrine in Israel is open to the world.  Not so in Mecca.  An Arab or Persian may walk the streets in all of Israel without being molested.  Not so of a Jew in Lebanon, Gaza, parts of Syria, much of Saudi Arabia, Iran, parts of Egypt and several square miles inside Great Britain.

Occupation?  Does this separate Israel for singular condemnation?  Who here discusses the the thousands of years of Tibetan culture quickly being eradicated?  Who discusses the occupation of Northern Cyprus?  When did Keith Olbermann last discuss the fact that more people die from sectarian violence in Sudan each month than have died in Gaza all of last year or the Hezbollah/Israeli fighting in Lebanon.

Can all Arabs and Persians living in the surrounding area of Israel publicly denounce their own government?

Is it an issue of denying dignity and basic human needs e.g. all of N. Korea and E. Timor?

Israeli aggressiveness?  Presently, Arabs and Muslims are involved in 22 active conflicts across the globe. The bloodletting against nearly every non-Muslim civilization from Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Chinese to African animist, could demand real attention.

I truly do not desire a lengthy Arab/Jewish discourse today.  I do wonder, however, what you believe the “truth is in regards to Israel’s immediate neighbors.

-

Post Script: Before someone here goes off on me for not writing the politically correct and nasty things about Israel - Or Arabs for that matter - I do not hate or dislike Arabs or Persians.  My college roommate remains the best of my friends.  My home is his.  I lived seven years in Iran after the “79” Revolution.  I have never been treated with sweeter hospitality.  I found it fascinating how so many Iranians distrust Arabs more than Jews.  And the sentiment seems to cut both ways.  I had never heard that narrative amongst the Western media.

Speaking of hype, radicals, the South, and Repubicans, I read on “Talking Points Memo” that some of their politicians are threatening to secede .  .  . again.

“Rep. Zach Wamp (R-TN), who is running in a heated three-way Republican primary for governor of Tennessee, has a dire warning about the new health care reform law: If a new Congress and president aren’t elected in order to repeal the bill, states might just have to secede.

“I hope that the American people will go to the ballot box in 2010 and 2012 so that states are not forced to consider separation from this government,” said Wamp, who has also promised to refuse to implement the law at the state level if he is elected, in an interview with the Hotline.  .  .

Wamp also praised Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX)—who has also floated the idea of secession—for leading the fight against the health care bill. “Patriots like Rick Perry have talked about these issues because the federal government is putting us in an untenable position at the state level,” said Wamp.”

ofersince72, - “From the name you choose to represent yourself, you “don’t care for Centrist politics”

-

My handle here has nothing to do with politics.  Go Right are the words of my Father as I left home with a younger man’s clothes on my back.

His invaluable lesson had to do with honor.  Honer in one’s self and to be freely given to others.  My Father taught me to talk little, put away my prideful self (go right) and do much for others.  He was a life-long voting democrat.  If I turn out to be half the man he was I will die a success.

-

Rev. Wright teaches that white people are inherent, murderous, devils.  Jews are to be reviled.  Neither ever to be trusted.  Hero?

I believe Negro’s to be drug addled Fatherless pimps. I wonder aloud who it was that taught every Hispanic to park on their lawn.  Democrats are the spawn of wretched lying bitches.  May I enjoy some of your praise?  For it’s only the “truth” I offer.

ITW, - “Meanwhile, the classic racism of the Democratic Party, going back to Jefferson, has been pushed aside over the last 50 years, which is what lead the GOP to take it on, just to get votes.”

-

I understand how you deeply believe in that narrative.  Heaping all bad events on “those others” is common here on TruthDig.  Praising the moral and intellectual superiority of one’s self is certainly a human trait.  I get it.

The, so-called, Southern Strategy theory is terrific hype in the political debate.  You can take every major civil rights surge of the past 200 plus years from the republican party and lay claim to it.  It works for you.  I get it.

For all of the above reasons you’re quite comfortable cheering Howard -I hate all republicans- Dean while claiming to be frightened of the 64 year old female Tea Party protester with a sign you cannot yet comprehend.  <—That one baffles me.

-

You love to think that I am writing about how there is no racism and bigotry amongst conservatives.  But, in fact, I have never written anything of the kind.  Quiet the contrary.  Yet you truly believe that I have.

You have seen me write these words perhaps a thousand times: There is no evidence, whatsoever, that one political party is more or less bigoted or racist than another.  You have created those distinctions yourself.  As have countless others.  You are the minority, thank goodness, nonetheless it’s becoming very dangerous today.  I wish it to stop before you allow it to go that far.

Try this.  Sarah Palin is not a Wretched Lying Fascist Bitch.  She’s a politician playing the same game which has been played since before the Roman Empire.  It’s the same game Howard Dean and Keith Olbermann play.  Those demons are human beings, ITW.  Human beings.  As you are!  Humans with the exact same goals but differing ways of getting there.  Stop and listen.

Try this also.  Hannity/Olbermann.  Not one iota of difference between them on matters of tactics and passion.

There’s a heap of “truth” for ya.  You Betcha wink

There is not much point in voting for Democrats if they are going to do the same things the Republicans do.

I don’t care if Prez O is purple polka dot—the Republithugs have prostituted themselves for corporate fascist interest, to gut major American Industrial centers and bankrupt her citizens. They allowed world capitalist to destroy the greatest economy in the World. They’ve stood in the way of every attempt at progressive social legislation, are at present working to destroy Social Security, and have vowed to reinstall the fascist Bush/Cheney political policies at the first opportunity. They pose a greater threat to Americans than Communist Russia did during the cold war. The Republican Party represents a treasonous conspiracy, that has subverted the Constitution of the United States of America, and has openly plotted to apply economic attacks to rob “—We the people—” of—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—”. They should be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. These are facts that cannot be “refudiated”.

The Democratic Party should be likewise purged. Get over narrow minded racebaiting and smug politically correct positioning, forget the “spitevote” and wipe the Republican Party out. HOLD THE LINE. Vote DEMOCRATIC with a view to replace so called “blue dogs” and others on the Repblican/corporate fascist dole. Our VOTE matters!! Don’t cave to the corporate/fascist propagandist “bitchslap”. The people are the power and, POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!

That would be nice, but the minority party has no love affair with the Majority populace either.  I expect the love affair with the toadies for profit, like the Clintons, will continue as it historically has, and the ones losing out will be the Majority Populace if they don’t wake up and take the Democratic Party back and quit thinking they are all Independent because they can’t stand either party, the populace has to make the Democratic Party represent the Majority Populace, and they can if they will only realize it.  The constituents of the Republican Party will NEVER include the populace.

GRYM:

While I have never seen signs that you are racist, you avidly defend racists by pretending they are NOT, and by bringing up obscure and ancient examples.  Bringing up Wright as evidence of current racism by Democrats is like bringing up Willie Horton as evidence of current racism by Republicans.

But the ongoing march to racism by the GOP, despite efforts within that party to stop it, have been proceeding for 46 years.

Meanwhile, the classic racism of the Democratic Party, going back to Jefferson, has been pushed aside over the last 50 years, which is what lead the GOP to take it on, just to get votes.

Minorities aren’t fooled.  Black Americans know racism when they see it which is why the Black vote has gone from 65-70% Democratic to 90-95% Democratic.  The Hispanic vote is moving the same way, as are other “ethnic” voters.

Why?  They’ve figured out the GOP has nothing for them, their freedom and THEIR guarantee of liberty.

don’t care for Centrist politics

Nor do I,  We have been following Centrist politics
since the end of WWII, look where it has got us, we don’t
even own this nation anymore.
So what is wrong with Rev. Wright not being a Centrist,
and what has he said that makes you believe he is
a racist, and a bigot:::::::?????:::::::???????

You bring up a very good point, although I do agree with
DRBHELTHI, that this debate is senseless.

The point I am talking about is just what is “center”
What is left of “center”  when discussing racial politics?
I don’t get and I doubt Rev. Wright does either.
How has Rev. Wright proved himself to be a bigot and
racist?

Re Go Right Young Man: “There is no better example of a nasty, small-minded, hate-filled and unhinged bigot and racist than Rev. Jeremiah Wright.”

What television network is your pundit on?  If you want him to reach millions of people you need to get him a racist/sexist network like Fox:

“Glen Beck went a step further to declare that “President Obama “has a deep seated hatred for white people, or the while culture. . .”

“Bill O’Reilly told his viewers that ‘the left sees white men as a problem’ and sees putting women and minorities in power as the solution.”

I will simply repeat myself: I can understand how Rev. Wright’s view of certain events would appeal to many here.  He is, after all, “Left” of Center.  Way Left of Center.  But the man’s hate and divisiveness is atrocious.  I don’t care what “truths” he speaks.  His teachings should never become commonplace.

I keep seeing the same thing repeated here.  All without the slightest hesitation, sense of shame or apology.  “It’s OK to be filled with hate, bigotry and unmitigated racism.  As long as the speaker comes down on the correct side of politics.”  It’s the fundamental reason why most opinions on this Web space represent less than 10% of the U.S. population.  The OVERWHELMING majority of people that make up the United States reject your notions of what’s right or wrong.

There is no better example of a nasty, small-minded, hate-filled and unhinged bigot and racist than Rev. Jeremiah Wright.  In every way the man fits the very definition of both a bigot and racist.

Re Robinson: “These allegations of anti-white racism are being deliberately hyped and exaggerated because they are designed to make whites fearful.”

Apparently, inciting racists is a standard ploy among Republicans:

“Fomenting racial resentment as a political strategy has a long and dishonorable history in the Republican Party ever since the passage of civil rights legislation and the Nixon campaign’s “southern strategy.” Ronald Reagan, the conservative movement’s icon, tapped that strategic vein when he made a campaign stop in Philadelphia, Mississippi, site of the notorious murder of three civil rights workers two decades before, to declare his support for “states’ rights.”

Gerad, nice post on the propagation of the conservative (using the word loosely here) mind!

The media hype on Reverend Wright at the time was all I heard and nothing he said did not seem not true or something even children should not be allowed to hear?  So when the conservatives media edited his comment out of context his comment still gave pause and made sense to me, though they made sure to make it look like a bogey black man comment and gave the illusion that Obmama thought and expressed himself in the same light. ........ Only if he did!

Beat each other up with the “racial” bullshit and the
political propaganda.

Do you think that the agenda of the double-dozen,
behind the scene satanists, such as GHWBSr, has been
impeded by “our” comments?

They have manipulated U.S. Military leaders into an
attack on Iran, using the same propaganda lies as were
used on 9-11 and Sadaam Hussein.

Who said that Generals in the U.S. military have a
brain ?  What percentage are stupid puppets?

ITW, - “If you take GRYM at his word, racism only exists on the Left as “reverse racism” and there is no racism on the right.”

-

I can allow that it is possible, however highly unlikely, that you believe that’s what I’ve been writing.  The fact is I am one of the small handful here writing the exact opposite.

a. There is no such thing as “reverse racism”.  There is only racism.
b. Racism and bigotry exists everywhere humans reside.  I’ve never written anything else.

Bigotry runs rampant on this Web space.  But then the views on display here represent the minuscule minority amongst Liberal thinkers in the U.S..  It’s been my experience, to my great relief, that most Liberal thinkers are a great deal more patient and inclusive.

Hannity, Limbaugh, Olbermann or Hayes.  It matters none who happens to speak the garbage.  It’s putrid!

Well MarthaA,  from the last six months of posting,
I know you are a very well intentioned person and I
admire you. Most everyone that posts is at least
concerned about the direction of our nation.

What we are seeing is just what we have been seeing
all over the globe.  We were a self-sufficient nation
with enough wealth, food, and resources to never have
needed to get in debt.
We watched this all over the world happen to other
countries, in Latin America, in Africa, in Asia, and
in Europe.  We watched the IMF and World Bank rip most
countries that got intangled with loans end up owning
those countries and their resources, installing brutal
governments to get the resources.
We are now in that same position that we always thought
could never happen to us.  They own us now.
WE always have been a very haughty nation and treated
other nations in a condesending manner.
When if fact, we have never been better than anyone.
Now everyone in America can see what can happen to a nation that had everything they needed to sustain themselves.  We saw it in Latin America and in Africa.
We were apart of many of those nations demise, now we
are a part of our own demise.
The AUSTERITY PROGRAMS will be enforced in the same
manner that they were enforced on other nations,
brute force if necessary.  It is my belief that we are
at least two elections cycles past where voting might have
made a difference. Of course I hope that I am wrong with
that belief, but I do know this, it is tooo late and not
enough time to reform the Democrat Party if there is time
left within the election process to turn this around.
The numbers ain’t there and the phony primary system won’t
allow it.
