Thank you for the information.  I’ve saved it for future reference.  We need to create a database for information like this, so that it remains accessible.

The information doesn’t surprise me, since I already regard the U.S.I. Establishment as a branch of global organized crime.  We already KNOW that the Evil Empire sponsors terrorism, provokes terrorism, and uses terrorism.  Just ask who armed, trained and funded the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan in the 1980s—the $6,000,000,000 operation was, at that time, the biggest op in CIA history.  Or ask who made war in behalf of the KLA in Yugoslavia in 1999.  Or ask why the U.S.I. allowed Zarqawi to shelter in the northern U.S.-fly-zone. 

What is war if not terror?—terror multiplied by a factor of a thousand.  What is “Shock and Awe”, if not terror—terror from the air that is almost DESIGNED to create terror on the ground.

Thanks Yikes.  I sincerely appreciate your kind words.  Perhaps this post was a bit long, but the tie in between the CIA, the anti-Castro Cubans, the Kennedy assassination and three generations of the Bush family was one that I felt appropriately raised given the links between Luis Posada and Orlando Bosch.  It was not my intent to “dominate” this posting.  Perhaps the Truthdig format of placing the latest posting at the top contributed to the problem, since my post had to be read starting at the bottom, then moving up.  I suspect that eagleeye just glanced at the number of posts and wrongly concluded that I had set forth a number of separate comments rather than a single posting.

I read Truthdig for the intelligence in it’s reports (thank you Amy Goodman) and also for the intelligent posters.  Earnest Canning has not written a post that I have not read.  He is an asset to this site.  I hope he and Amy continue.

re comment #66810 by eagleeye.  In was a single posting broken up into multiple parts because its substantive content required my doing so.  Judging from the fact you critiqued the length but had nothing substantive to say about the content, I suspect that you didn’t read it.  Perhaps that is because the sharpness of your eagle’s eye prevents you from focusing on anything beyond a single sentence.

CURIOUS LINKS—PART VI

Kennedy’s was not the only assassination on American soil where the name “George Bush” surfaces.  On Sept. 21, 1976 Virgilio Paz & Dionisio Suarez detonated a remote controlled bomb inside a moving car on the streets of Washington D.C., killing Salvador Allende’s former defense minister, Orlando Letelier, and American Ronni Moffit, who drowned in her own blood.  Paz and Suarez were militants connected with the Cuban Nationalist Movement, a small neo-fascist group based in Miami and New Jersey.  Both men would later surface as hit men for the Columbian Drug Mafia.  Suarez would also do a stint with the Contras.

Eight weeks before the assassination, on July 26, 1976, George Landau, the Ambassador to Paraguay, sent CIA Director George H.W. Bush a cable passing on what Landau regarded as an extraordinary request by the Paraguayan government to provide U.S. entry visas to two Chilean intelligence officers with Paraguan passports who claimed that they would be meeting with top CIA officials in Washington.  Bush did not send a reply until August 4, at which time he told Landau that the CIA “wanted nothing to do with the mission.”  But by then Landau had already issued the visas.

Trento places the blame on a suborinate at the CIA, Ted Shackley, whom he claims “sat on the cable.”  While that is certainly possible, it is also possible that Bush chose to delay sending the reply until he knew the DINA agents were on their way, and then formulated the reply’s content in order to erect a plausible denial.  [Referencing Iran/Contra testimony, Mark Lane observed, “Bush routinely keeps a diary of plausible denial, with the same skill employed by a crooked accountant who maintains two sets of corporate books, one of them cooked.”]  This latter possibility is enhanced by the fact that the CIA did nothing to stop the DINA agents, who openly entered the country on Aug. 22, even after the Chilean Embassy notified the CIA of the agents’ arrival in Washington DC.  During the ensuing Justice Department investigation, Bush failed to turn over CIA files and, per Trento, “defended the DINA against accusations that it conducted the assassination.”

So there you have it.  Luis Posada is linked with Orlando Bosch in the downing of the Cubana airliner.  Both are anti-Castro Cubans connected to the Bay of Pigs.  Bosch is linked to the Lettelier assassination, and, if Ms. Lorenz’s sworn testimony is to be believed, to the Kennedy assassination.  Mark Lane’s “Plausible Denial” implicates the CIA in the Kennedy assassination.  George H.W. Bush’s name surfaces in connection with the Bay of Pigs and both the Kennedy and Lettelier assassinations.  He curiously denies any connections to the CIA before 1975.  George H.W. Bush pardons Bosch.  George Bush sees to it that Posada is shielded from extradition to Venezuela.  Bosch and Posada walk the streets of Miami—free men.

CURIOUS LINKS—PART IV

Trento reveals that after the war, as damning evidence surfaced from captured German bank records, documents made their way into a CIA file where Dulles could shield Bush while having something he could hold over them.  Prescott then “spent most of his post-World War II life cooperating with and taking an active interest in, the most covert CIA intelligence operations.”  This included, following Prescott’s election to the Senate, maneuvering to obtain a position on the Senate Armed Services Committee and, upon Dulle’s urging, a position on the subcommittee which oversaw the CIA.

Prescott set up a job for George H.W. Bush with Henry Neil Malon and Dresser Industries, which Trento assers “had long provided cover for the agency.”  Dulles recruited George H.W., who per Trento, began “doing favors for the CIA” in 1956 after he had moved to Houston and established Zapata-Offshore, which led to his involvement with the anti-Castro Cubans in which the CIA used Zapata-Offshore oil rigs as training areas in advance of the Bay of Pigs invasion.

While Trento’s sources suggest George H.W. Bush’s role was peripheral, circumstantial evidence suggests otherwise.  The names of the two repainted vesses obtained by Col. L. Fletcher Prouty for use in the Bay of Pigs invasion where “Houston” and “Barbara.”  The top secret code name for the invasion was “Operation Zapata.”  On Nov. 29, 1963 J. Edgar Hoover directed a memo to the State Department entitled, “Assassination of President John F. Kennedy November 22, 1963,” which revealed that on Nov. 23, 1963 FBI Agent W.T. Forsyth and Capt. William Edwards of the DIA briefed “Mr. George Bush of the Central Intelligence Agency.” 

The Hoover memo was unearthed by Joseph McBride of “The Nation” magazine in 1988.  When confronted, then VP Bush, through a spokesperson, denied that he had ever worked for the CIA before being appointed its director in 1975.  It was suggested that the memo referred to another “George Bush” who worked at the CIA, but a follow-up by McBride revealed that claim to be dubious at best.

CURIOUS CONNECTIONS—PART IV

There is a rather curious connection between the Kennedy assassination and Watergate that goes beyond the Lorenz identification of Watergate burglars E. Howard Hunt and Frank Sturgis.  The connection was made by none other than H.R. Halderman in “The Ends of Power” (Time Books) (1978) recounted by Lane in “Plausible Denial.”  Seeking the CIA’s protection from the escalating Watergate scandal, Nixon dispatched haldeman to meet with Richard Helms.  When Haldeman met with the usual CIA stonewalling, he told Helms, “the president asked me to tell you this entire affair may be connected to the Bay of Pigs….”  Helms came unglued, gripping the arms of his chair and shouting that there was no connection.  Haldeman, initially perplexed by Helm’s overreaction, observed, “It seems that in all those Nixon references to the Bay of Pigs he was referring to the Kennedy assassination.”  Haldeman went on to note “after Kennedy was killed, the CIA launched a fantastic cover-up” and that the “CIA literally erased any connection between the Kennedy assassination and the CIA.”

In a sense, it may be said that the CIA was the stepchild of Nazi Germanay.  As revealed by Joseph Trento in “Prelude to Terror,” its founder, Alan Dulles, did business with the Nazxis before World War II.  Dulles served in the O.S.S. in Bern, Switzerland.  From 1945 to 1947, preceding the creation of the CIA, Dulles ran his own private and entirely illegal intelligence service, in which, Trento informs us, he “began a massive ex-Nazi recruitment campaign, using a State Department refugee office as a front.”  While the U.S. was publicly securing convictions of the highest level of Nazi leaders at Nuremberg, its intelligence agencies were not merely shielding but actually retaining the services of such infamous butchers as Klaus Barbie.

Dulles did not limit his recruitment to former Nazis.  He set his sights on those within the American business community who financed the Nazi rise to power, including one Prescott Bush, the president’s paternal grandfather, whose involvement with the Nazis, Trento asserts, did not reflect ideological affinity.  It “was just money”—hardly a comfort given that at the time he was supporting the Nazi war machine, Prescott’s son, George H.W. Bush was off fighting in the Pacific.  Then again, perhaps it does say something about the relative importance of money in the Bush household.

CURIOUS CONNECTIONS—PART III

[Correction:  Part I misdated the verdict as 1988.  The correct date was Feb. 6, 1985].  The jury found for Liberty Lobby.  Although jury foreperson Lesilie Armstrong, when approached by the press after the verdict was read, made it clear that the jury was convinced that the CIA had killed President Kennedy and that Hunt was a part of it, a reporter pressed Armstrong about “actual malice” being a part of every libel case.  Armstrong noted, per the judge’s instructions, actual malice was a part of every libel case, but here the jury did not need to reach the issue because they were convinced that the Marchetti article was true.

That evening, a Miami TV station, owned by the Washington Post and Newsweek, reported only on Armstrong’s actual malice being an essential element of a libel case.  Testimony and a verdict which should have been banner headlines, screaming across the front pages of every newspaper in the U.S. was treated by the corporate-owned media as a non-event.

Lane’s “Plausible Denial” presents a thoughtful, fact-filled, persuasive and sustained argument of a likely CIA involvement in the assassination of President Kennedy, an assassination which Lane contends was brought on because Kennedy, in the wake of the Bay of Pigs disaster, had planned to dismantle the CIA following an expected 1964 electoral victory and had issued National security Action memorandum 263 on Oct. 2, 1963 containing a blueprint for a total withdrawal from Vietnam.

Afterwards, per Lane, the CIA engaged in a massive cover-up both within the Warren Commission and a subsequent House Select Committee on Assassinations investigation.  The CIA cover-up was facilitated by its former director, Allen Dulles, who had been fired by President Kennedy only to be appointed as a key member of the Warren Commission.  The FBI’s man inside the Commission was Gerald Ford, who illegally passed on top secret information to Hoover’s assistant, Cartha DeLoach, noting that FBI assistance was needed to bring two dissenting Commission members to the FBI’s view that the shots that killed Kennedy had been fired from the sixth floor windowof the Texas School Book Depository.

CURIOUS LINKS—PART II

Ms. Lorenz was at one time Fidel Castro’s girlfriend—that is until the former head of Cuba’s Air Force, Frank Fiorini aka Frank Sturgis, convinced her to flee Cuba to the U.S. where she would be recruited into the CIA based on a lie that Castro intended to kill her and her son.

During the trial in Hunt v. Liberty Lobby, after Lane’s blistering cross-examination demolished Hunt’s credibility and his claim to have been in Washington DC on the day Kennedy was assassinated, Lane read Lorenz’s sworn deposition testimony into the record.  Lorenz testified that she, along with Frank Sturgis, Jack Patrick Hemming, Orlando Bosch and Alexander Rorke, Jr. traveled by way of a two-car caravan from Miami to Dallas in November 1963.  One of the two cars was loaded with weapons.  Shortly after Lorenz and Sturgis arrived at a Dallas motel on Nov. 21, 2003, Hunt showed up and handed an envelope filled with cash to Sturgis.  Hunt remained for about 45 minutes.  Within an hour of Hunt’s departure another individual arrived at their hotel room, Jack Ruby.

Lorenz said she had not been provided with the identity of the target of the operation, only knew that it was “big” and that she was to act as a decoy.  Having second thoughts, she persuaded Sturgis to drive her to the airport.  She flew back to Miami.

Hunt’s lawyer, Edward Dunne, concerned with the impact this had on the veracity of Hunt’s assertion he was not in Dallas, did not know when to leave well enough alone.  He specifically asked Lorenz whether she later spoke with Sturgis about the assassination.  Sturgis had.  He told her that she missed “the really big one,” adding:  “We killed the president that day.  You could have been a part of it—you know, part of history.  You should have stayed.  It was safe.  Everything was covered in advance.  No arrests, no real newspaper investigation.  It was all covered, very professional.”

CURIOUS LINKS—PART I

It is interesting to find Ms. Goodman’s mention of the Bay of Pigs invasion in conjunction with the release of Luis Posada.  The links go far deeper than she or most Americans realize.  As revealed by Peter D. Scott & J. Marshall in “Cocaine Politics: Drugs, Armies & the CIA in Central America” (Univ. Cal. Press)(1991), Posada’s co-conspirator in the downing of the Cubana Airliner, and whose CORU network was linked to the Contra supply operation in the 1980s, openly took credit for that event.  As revealed by Ricardo Alarcon, President of the Cuban National Assembly on Democracy Now!, declassified State Department documents implicate Bosch in the assassination of Orlando Lettelier.  Today, thanks to a pardon from Geo. H.W. Bush, Bosch walks the strees of Miami, a free man.

As revealed by Mark Lane in “Plausible Denial,” Lettelier’s was not the only assassination on American soil to which Bosch has been linked. 

I suspect that very few Americans have ever heard the name Marita Lorenz or understood the significance of a 1988 verdict rendered in a U.S. District Court in the case of Hunt vs. Liberty Lobby—a libel action brought by former Watergate burglar E. Howard Hunt against former CIA officer Victor Marchetti and his publisher Liberty Lobby, who had implicated Hunt in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  Mr. Lane defended the action not on the basis of the higher standard a public figure must show to demonstate actual malice but on the truth of the content of the Victor Marchetti article.
