A guard stands watch on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower after it docked outside Limassol, Cyprus, last October.

By Scott Ritter

In the months leading up to President Bush’s ill-fated invasion of Iraq, I traveled around the world speaking to various international groups, including many parliamentary assemblies.  I spoke about democracy and the need of any nation or group of nations espousing democracy as a standard to embrace the ideals and values of justice and due process in accordance with the rule of law.  I spoke of international law, especially as it was manifested in the charter of the United Nations (a document signed and adopted by all of the countries I visited).

Invariably, my presentation focused on the nation in question, whether it was Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Japan or Great Britain, and the status of its relationship with the United States.  As an American, I said, I appreciated each nation’s embrace of the United States as a friend and ally.  However, as a strong believer in the rule of law, I deplored the trend among America’s so-called friends to facilitate a needless confrontation which would severely harm the U.S. in the long run.  These nations were hesitant to stand up to the United States even though they knew the course of action planned for Iraq was wrong.

Such permissive submission was deplorable, and invariably led to a comment from me about the status of genuine sovereignty in the face of American imperial power.  If a nation was incapable of defending its sovereign values and interests, then it should simply acknowledge its status as a colony of the United States, pull down its disgraced national flag and raise the Stars and Stripes.

Now the tables have turned.  Americans, through the will of the people as expressed in the November 2006 election, voiced their dissatisfaction with the conduct of the American war in Iraq, and empowered a new Democratic-controlled Congress to reassert itself as a separate but equal branch of government—especially when it came to matters pertaining to war and the threat of war.

This new Democratic leadership has failed egregiously.  Not only has the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, been unable to orchestrate any meaningful legislation to bring the war in Iraq to an end, but in mid-March she carelessly greased the tracks for a whole new conflict. By excising language from a defense appropriations bill which would have required President Bush to seek the approval of Congress prior to initiating any military attack on Iran, Pelosi terminated any hope of slowing down the Bush administration’s mad rush to war.

Despite the fact that Congress was only stating through this language a simple reflection of constitutional mandate, Speaker Pelosi and others felt that the inclusion of such verbiage put the security of the state of Israel at risk by eliminating important “policy options” for the president of the United States.  In short, Israeli national security interests trumped the Constitution of the United States.

I consider myself to be a friend of Israel, a status which has been demonstrated repeatedly through words and deeds from January-February 1991, when I was involved in the effort to stop Iraq Scud missiles from striking Israel during the 1991 Gulf War, to the period between October 1994 and June 1998 when I served as the lead liaison between the United Nations weapons inspectors and Israeli intelligence, working to find a final accounting of Iraq’s proscribed weapons of mass destruction.  I know only too well the precarious reality of Israel’s security situation, and am sympathetic to its need to proactively deal with threats before they manifest themselves in a manner which threatens Israel’s ability to survive as a nation-state.

However, as an American who served on active duty in time of war as an officer of Marines, I also remember the oath I took to “uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” As such, I am troubled by the recent actions of Speaker Pelosi and other members of Congress who have not only abrogated their collective responsibility to uphold and defend the Constitution but have taken actions which, under normal circumstances and involving any other nation, would border on treasonous.  Our collective duty as Americans must center on defending the very document, the Constitution, which defines who we are and what we are as a people and a nation.  To have our elected representatives flagrantly push aside their constitutional responsibilities in the name of the security interests of another nation is unthinkable.  And yet it has just happened, apparently without consequence.

Sadly, the new Democratic Congress has cemented its status as yet another iteration of a system which long ago sold its soul to special interests.  Democrats can cackle about Republican scandals, including the Jack Abramoff affair, which brought down Rep. Tom DeLay among others.  But history will show that the Pelosi-led sellout to Israeli special interests endangered the viability and security of America as a sovereign state governed by the rule of law more than Jack Abramoff ever could.

In this time of constitutional crisis, the American people need to wake up and demand that the basic tenets of the Constitution be adhered to.  Congress is solely empowered by the Constitution to declare war.  Demanding that the president of the United States adhere to this prerequisite is a logical and patriotic stance.  Allowing any non-American interest, even one possessing such highly charged political and emotional sensitivities as Israel, to dictate otherwise represents nothing more than a capitulation of sovereignty.  We the people need to rally around this defense of sovereignty.  We must demand not only that Congress reassert its constitutional responsibilities and authority by demanding the president obey the letter of the law when it comes to war, whether against Iran or any other nation, but also to place in check the anti-American activities of one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington, D.C., the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee.

For decades AIPAC has operated in the shadows of American foreign policy decision-making, exerting its influence on elected officials away from the public scrutiny of the very constituents who elected those officials to begin with.  It is impossible to hold someone accountable for actions that are kept secret, and as such AIPAC’s ability to secretly influence American foreign and national security policies represents a flagrant insult and threat to the very essence of American democracy.  I am not advocating the dissolution of AIPAC.  However, I am demanding that AIPAC be treated as any other representative of a foreign nation is treated. It should have to register as an agent of a foreign power so that the totality of its interactions with American officials can become a part of the public record.  We require this of all other nations, including our good friends the British.

To state that AIPAC, and by extension Israel, is above the law in this regard is to acknowledge the reality that American national sovereignty no longer matters when it comes to the state of Israel.  So be it.  But then we are, collectively, no better than those nations I mocked prior to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 as “colonies” of the United States.  So if we are to continue to permit AIPAC to operate as an undeclared agent of a foreign nation, and to influence American foreign and national security policymaking at the expense of our Constitution, then we should acknowledge our true status as nothing more than a colony of Israel, pull down the Stars and Stripes and raise the Star of David over our nation’s capitol.  While representing the final act of submission, it would also be the first truly honest act that occurred in Washington, D.C., in many years.

Yes , indeed, Israel is sincerely and devoutedly milking us as long as we are fools.

“WASHINGTON is braced for a showdown between the Central Intelligence Agency, the White House and the Pentagon when George Tenet, the former CIA chief, publishes his memoirs next week.

Anxious to restore his reputation after failing to prevent the September 11 attacks and overreacting to flimsy evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, Tenet is said to spread the blame freely among other senior members of President George W Bush’s administration.

The intelligence chief, who ran the CIA from 1997 to 2004 under Bill Clinton as well as Bush, is under considerable pressure to spill secrets. Tenet received $4m (£2m) for the book, which has a print run of 300,000. But repeated delays to the publication date, now set at April 30, suggest there have been arguments with the vetters about what could be included.

The reputation of Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, who was national security adviser at the time of the 9/11 attacks, is certain to take a battering. The two have already clashed over Tenet’s s claim that in July 2001 he gave Rice a full briefing about the threat of a spectacular Al-Qaeda attack on America. She said she could not remember such an explicit warning.

Tenet is also out to settle a few scores with Vice-President Dick Cheney and his office and neoconservative former Pentagon officials such as Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith. They fought long and hard to discredit the CIA’s belief that there was little evidence of a link between Saddam Hussein’s Iraq and Al-Qaeda, and ran their own separate intelligence-gathering operation at the defence department.......” http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_ame ricas/article1687268.ece

What is strange is that Ritter’s critique of Likud and AIPAC, like President Carter’s well-thought out observations in “Palistine: Peace not Apartheid” routinely appear by way of dissenting voices in the Israeli media but will no doubt be denounced as anti-Semitic here in the United States.

Finally, to the delusional, self-righteous moronic bible thumpers who consider waging a “crusade” in the Middle East as some kind of Christian duty, I have a question:  Who, pray tell, would Jesus “the meek shall inherit the earth” Christ have bombed?  You religious freaks are an odd lot.

Christians, what Mr. Ritter and many commentators have written may have raised your ire but I want to encourage you to please consider the error of looking for solutions in politics. Your leader/president/prime minister is Jesus Christ and He’s the one who said that His kingdom is not of this world. Why do you keep participating in and supporting this madness of killing other members of His creation? Have you forgotten that our battle is not with people but with the evil spiritual forces that influence them?

So what are we to do with Israelis, Iraqis, Iranians, et al? If you intend to be obedient to Christ’s teachings and not idle, easily-manipulated bystanders, you will sincerely love them and pray for them. There is no gray area in this regard.

What is most ironic in the Israeli lobby’s influence is that it represents much less the Israeli people than the Israeli government. The Knesset is awash with raging debates over Israeli policies, with harsh criticisms being thrown at the government and its agencies. But in Washington, just about all politicians toe the line of the Israeli prime minister, whatever that may be. Washington’s thinking pattern switches from Likud’s to Labor’s so effortlessly…
The Israeli influence on the U.S. government, and on many state governments, is a cancer begging for treatment. But please, please, don’t blame Jews or Israelis in general for it; observe the Knesset and see for yourself: a large number of jewish Israelis deeply disagree with U.S. politicians on matters related to Israel. The real problem is that Washington as a whole is a mouthpiece for the prime minister.
Finally, as others have stated on this page, what cancer ought to be treated first? AIPAC, or the NRA, or military contractors, or the religious right, etc.? Won’t you kindly keep things in perspective? To single out AIPAC carries the risk of ignoring possibly less benign lobbies.
Love,

Re: Final Act of Submission… I’m with Mr. Ritter.  If you’re reading this, thank you for this great article.
I would only add my recommendation that the author, and everyone else whom the shoe fits, attempt to refrain from constantly referring to America as a democracy.  A seeming small point, but important to note that no where in the U.S. Constitution is found the word “democracy.” I have come to learn the term, as well as the concept, was studiously avoided by the framers for important reasons far too extensive to include here.  For any interested in quickly educating themselves on this point I would recommend two quick reads available on-line in the not too distant past by Walter E. Williams and/or Pat Buchanan.  There are many others who have made the point also.

AIPAC is a lobby group.  AIPAC as a lobbying group represents what it percieves to be the interests of Isreal.  Do I always agree with those positions? No.  I believe the action in Lebanon was both tragic and stupid.  Does AIPAC have too much power?  Yes, In a government where representitives are bought and sold all of these lobbying groups have too much power.  This is a bigger problem.  Address it and clean it up!

This is however very different then talking about how Jews are running the country.  (Not to mention the “Hollowcost” or links to Jewwatch.com).  It is a very dangerous thing to attach nefarious plans to a group of people, be they Jewish, Roman Catholic or others.  That is the slippery slope. This is where the “dog begins to hunt”.

To those of you that have restricted your comments about AIPAC and their influence -this is not directed to you.  I am fine with critisms of Isreal’s policy and any lobbying group.

Now you will have to excuse me, I have to go run the country......

I had the good fortune of hearing Scott Ritter speak last February in my local community—Oak Park, CA.

He’s a staunch defender of Israel but not the rightwing Likud Party.  However, what stuck most in my mind after Scott’s speech was his debunking of Iran as a potential nuclear threat.

Scott described Iran’s uranium enrichment program as a fiasco, caused by “mass distribution” problems during centrifuge spin-up, resulting in exploding aluminum tubes.

According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, to produce weapons-grade uranium for one atomic bomb, 50,000 centrifuges would have to spin at max speed for an entire year without failure.  Iran can’t even get half of its 3,000 centrifuges to work properly, much less 50,000.

At the same time, Iran announced it would build two light-water reactors with help from Russia.  Not, in my opinion, for obtaining plutonium for atomic bombs like the North Koreans did.  I suspect Iran wants to whipsaw Western countries economically by selling its oil to friendlier governments such as China while subsisting totally on reactor-produced electricity.  Saudi Arabia is threatening the same energy conversion.

Atomic bombs aside, imagine a nuclear-powered Middle East that dispenses petroleum at its leisure to the highest bidder, which might not be the United States.  What will Bush neocons do then?  Start a regional war with help from Israel?  Seems possible to me.

From the point of view of global imperial interests, the war in Iraq was certainly not on the behest of the oil companies.  I have looked at all the documents, I’ve done interviews with oil companies, I’ve looked at their publications for the five years in the run-up to the war and there is absolutely no evidence.  On the contrary, if you pursue research on the various members of the Zionist power configuration in the United States, which I think is a conceptually more correct way of talking about this, rather than ‘the Lobby’, you will find that people of dubious loyalties, like Paul Wolfowitz, Douglas Feith, Richard Perle and Elliott Abrams – the felon, that had an agenda of furthering Israel’s interests. - James Petras, author of The Power of Israel in the United States (2006)

Ritter is right on target. Read Jimmy Carter’s book where he spells out in detail what Israel is really doing. The land for peace and two nation solution makes a lot of sense....BUT Israel will not accept peace.
When Carter’s book came out and all the Jews, including the AIPAC got up in arms, Pelosi made a public statement to the effect that “this was not the US view of Israel.
Until the Israel-Palestinian issue is solved there will be no peace in the Middle East and as long as we let the AIPAC control our national interest there will be no solution.

The Iraq war is the symptom. The larger picture is the extraordinary influence of the defense industry and the energy companies. Israel obviously benefits from any foreign conflict as they will receive more aid given their powerful allies in Washington and on Wall Street. But this benefit to Israel from excessive defense spending is not the main story. What is needed is to look at the larger picture and a new direction for the American economy. If we slowly re-direct defense spending toward space and ocean exploration and at the same time convert our economy from oil to nuclear and natural gas, Israel and the entire Middle East will not take up so much time on the evening news. Middle East oil is only important because it is the current fuel for the world’s economic engines. Middle East conflicts occur in part because of the undue influence on policy of the military-industrial-labor unions-universities-congressional complex, (the defense spending coalition). By giving the aerospace contractors exploration of the inner solar system and the navy contractors exploration and preservation of the wild life in the oceans, we will slowly demilitarize the economy and above all give hope the nation’s greatest asset, our children. Israel is not the “cause” of the Iraq war or our energy dependence on Middle East oil. These are policy choices made by Congress and their corporate allies. Both political parties are beholden to the interests of the defense spending coalition and the energy lobby. Certainly Israel has a very strong presence in Washington. But their ability to influence policy would not be nearly so strong if America was not dependent on oil and defense spending. Of the 435 congressional districts, every one has either a military installation or a defense contractor. Until we give the defense contractors new missions, we will continue to have war as part of the necessary economic planning to prop up consumer spending and this false economy. If Israel did not exist, if September 11th had not happened we would have had to create a reason to increase defense spending. If not Iraq then why not Nigeria or Venezuela? Given the ability of mass media to provide propaganda to support these massive defense budgets in the name of “national security”, if the Middle East did not exist, we would have to find a Noriega or some other two bit dictator to punish with our aircraft carrier battle groups and rapid deployment forces.
While I agree with Scott Ritter Iran is certainly next on the list of countries the Christian Party of God aka “the Republican Party” wishes to attack, the American military has had quite enough. The military is not to blame for the undue influence of the “military industrial complex”. They never order the extra fighter planes or fight to keep bases open that don’t serve the national interest. The American military loves this great country and they will simply not allow the Christian Party of God to start another ill advised war. America will not attack Iran because the American military will not carry out these orders. Our troops are brave and very patriotic. They are not stupid. They will not attack Iran despite the wishes of the defense contractors and others who stand to benefit from more blood. When, not if Bush and the Christian Party of God tries to start yet another conflict since the “end is near”, the American military will say no. This will be a turning point in American Imperialism. This is where it gets interesting and yes very dangerous. An economic down turn will create the seeds for fascism.

Funny that all roads about Zionism, PNAC, 911, Iraq, Iran all lead back to AIPAC.

America has been bought, sold and delivered. Nancy Pelosi is attempting a rare hat trick. Forget about the gender thing, she is trying to satisfy the base of Democrats with the vote that put her in power in November 06. Yet she had long before been bought by AIPAC, so she is good with stripping timetables and placing impeachment off the table. You can see the physical conflict in Pelosi’s eyes as she attempts to dance to two masters at the same time. It’s not working very well for her.

In truth, Israel loves George Bush and Dick Cheney, because they both seem willing to represent the nexus of Zionism and US Christian zealotry. That is the true power behind the neocons, this improbable wedding of two fascist religious ideologies, and their shared hatred of a brown and impoverished enemy.

And so, Nancy Pelosi dances for two masters, the populist one that ostensibly brought her to power, which we liike to think of as corrective democracy, and the quiet one that paid the tab to get her into higher office. Pelosi is in the pocket of AIPAC. You didn’t really think it had something to do with democracy, did you?

Regarding the comments by Jeremy and Mark, I think they highlight the problem. They are both Jews with seemingly moderate political views, and yet they both suggest that this rational, subject-based discussion is anti-semitic. Maybe it’s true that the majority of American Jews are not members of AIPAC and don’t consider themselves Zionists, but Jews as a whole continue to support this environment in which Israel and/or Jewish politics and policy cannot be debated. This BS about “we’ve heard this all before” is really pathetic. Any group that’s as averse to honest debate as the Jews have been is afraid of the truth.

I don’t see anyone alleging that US foreign policy would be peachy if not for the influence of a bunch of evil Jews. The fact is that the US, as a whole, is responsible for much of the war-making of the past century. US culture is predatory, and has been from the start. We’ve built our economic system to require perpetual expansion, and our aim both economically and culturally is to dominate the entire globe, justified by our conviction that we are superior. This happens to make the US a natural ally of the Jews and the British.

The fact is that Jews have a disproportionate share of wealth and power in the US. If the Lakota tribe held 10% of the seats in the House and Senate, and an even higher percentage of top offices in the major banks and media corporations, and same in the State Dept, CIA, and major universities, don’t you think that would draw some intense scrutiny, and raise legitimate questions about how they got that power and what they were doing with it? I think it all comes down to what the result is. If Israel was a world leader in spreading peace, tolerance, and justice around the world, it’s doubtful there would be much criticism. But the reality is the opposite, and American Jews share responsibility for this. Because of the US alliance with Israel, every other American shares some of the responsibility as well.

Maybe some of the writings here over-state the influence of AIPAC, but certainly Mark and Jeremy under-state it by a mile.

Fortunately, there are Jewish groups emerging that are getting involved in a positive way, one being Jewish Voice for Peace (jewishvoiceforpeace.org). To the degree that American Jews cease being Zionism-deniers and Israeli-oppression-deniers, and begin exerting positive influence and supporting truth and justice even when it comes to Jews, then the criticism will largely fall away. The bottom line is that Israel and Zionism deserve far more criticism than has been allowed to be expressed, and one way or another that situation will have to be rectified. Jews have more say in how that happens than any other group.

Not all Jews are to be blamed for the debacle over there. Some are just as innocent as I am and I am neither for or against Israel. I am however not a fan of Zionists. They like the Mafia (I am Italian of Italian decent) are the problem, we cannot be blamed for the lousy condition precvailing with the likes of those people and who is to blame-well they have called me “grease ball” “Dago” and on and on. So let us brand all people, black, green and orange at foult. No, to strong against any one group is not fair. But zionist’s are no good. For me that is the way it is.

A close read of the rise and fall of the Third Reich teaches that for 10 years prior to the Second World War a small minority of Jewish people in Germany had gained control of the media, the banking industry, much of the commercial business and, yes, some political power with elected persons.  When this distortion was realized by the masses, they elected a radical “people-person” that resulted in a tragic war and the much described “hollowcost”.  When such a small minority of persons in any society gain such disproportionate economic and political power it is not hard to see how the average voter can be led astray.  Well here we are again in the 21st century when American Jews control most of the US media, many of the economic “engines of business”, much of the banking business and, yes, have elected several persons whose goal is to distort the objectives of Israel for their advantage. (Lieberman is the best example, but the unelected Perle, Feith, etc. have played a big roll).  When the average American wakes up and realizes that such a small minority have hijacked their “Christian Country” they could also elect someone who promises to restore power (economic and political) to the people-base.  And if that newly elected person proposes some severe methods of control, another tragic event could take place.  Can American avoid another holocaust?

What about their rights which have been negated for the last half century for the sake of a created thief nation which is Isreal and that with the total support of the US.

To Mr. Hoffman:
Perhaps, Mr. Hoffman, you should find out something about AIPAC and their activities if you are truly concerned about your daughters and the future of all American children, regardless of their religion?
Many Jews in the US and Israel are anti AIPAC and anti Zionist (Christian Zionists included) and are beginning to realize that they will be painted with a wide brush if they dont take a stand against Zionisim.
By your comment of ‘we have heard this all before’, you are playing the holocaust card. That dog wont hunt anymore.
The US government is under the firm control of the Jewish Zionist billionairs that reside in and have made their fortunes in America. The exercise of control is carried out through large donations to both US political parties. AIPAC is just one of many Jewish Zionist organizations that weild power over the US government, there are many more that usually remain below the radar.  The US government is standing aside while Israel continues to grind Palestinians under their boot heels. There will be no peace in the mid east untill Israel agrees on a fair two state solution. The ultimate aim of Israel’s Zionists is expansion and that includes the fragmentation of Muslim countries and the theft of their oil, land and water. The Zionist neo cons in and out of our government are the instigators of the Project For A New American Century, which is basically a road map for world domination through military or any other means that are deemed necessary. In short, Imperialisim.
I read Ha’aretz and other Jewish publications several times each week and am aware of the opinions of Jews living in Israel. Olmert’s approval rating stands at 3% so I know that he is not representing or carrying out the desires of the population of Israel. I also know that at the time of the invasion of Iraq that the leadership of Israel was all for it. Now that the situation in Iraq has deteriorated the leadership of Israel are faced with the possibility of a decline of US influence in the mid east and are wondering what that portends for Israel’s future. Some in Israel are wishing that Iraq had not been invaded and destabilized. Count me among that group.
If you are truly interested in the futures of your children, and we all are, then its time that you began doing your homework, and forget about the holocaust card. America and other countries have committed many holocausts. They are all history. I suggest that we try, together, to prevent any more from happening after we end the current holocaust in Iraq.

“Here we are again.... we have seen this all before.  Things go sour - can it be us?  Can it be who we elected? ... No that can’t be it, its got to be the Jews because we all know they run everything.”

Mark:

(1) Israel is not “the Jews”. This is how Israel gets what it wants. It insists that it is “the Jews”. Then, by definition, anyone who speaks against Israel is anti-Semitic.

(2) We as a body politic must face and deal with what is true. Whether that truth makes you uncomfortable is irrelevant.

As usual, Ritter makes a good point. As usual, the comments range from knee-jerk accusations of Ritter’s anti-Semitism to the anti-Semitic.

Check out this recent Dutch documentary on the Israel lobby/ies. Well done. I tend to agree with Tony Judt’s take on it (the English-Jewish bearded guy in the piece, if you don’t know him by sight). There are many factors, of which the Israeli lobbies are one, but they are a very important one. Israel is a major power—America is the major power since WWII, but Israel has the fourth largest military, a larger nuclear force than any NATO power but the US, and so on. Certainly a huge regional player, which we use.

The power of the lobbies is unquestioned, and this documentary at no point blames it on “the Jews”—in fact, it specifically points out the disconnect between the elite Jews in the lobbies and American Jews in general. Moreover, it also outlines very clearly the support garnered by right-wing fundamentalist Christians—and might have argued for the role of the military-industrial complex in using Israel as a test site for weaponry, as well as a willing market.

In any event, if Israel were in, say, Australia, I very much doubt we’d be as interested. It’s near the oil, and that matters. Having said that, it would have served America’s purposes to ignore Israel and make nice to the Arabs. That that hasn’t happened is due to many things, one of which is the lobbies.

Anyway, I don’t buy Richard Perle’s notion that everything would be identical without the lobbies. However, I would like to test that theory!

As for what to do, here’s what to do: Here’s what to do: call/write/fax/ e-mail your elected representatives and tell them to stand up against the lobby/-ies—“pro-"Israeli, military-industrial, Christian-right, et al. Writeletters to the editor. Especially if you’re Jewish, as I am, you must speak out.

Divide and Conquer

This has nothing to do with “Jews”, “Christians” and “Muslims”.  It is more closely associated with “Secret Societies” draped in religious conviction to the public masses.  Is President Bush truly a “Born Again Christian”…Let’s get real! Religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender and virtually all other societal divisions are used to subdue the masses by separating them into categories and groups, then to “pit” each against the other(s).  There are extremists in every camp; unfortunately, it is the extremists in such divisions that are the most active in the geopolitical arena that insight the conflicts and arouse the emotions of the ignorant masses.  This has been going on since the beginning of time. Today is no different, with the exception that, no longer does mankind use swords and arrows, but “nukes” and “biologicals”.  This is by design the desire of the “New World Order” and they are of every ethnicity, religion and “interest(s)” that involve the desire for power, control, i.e., subversion the masses. AIPAC is dangerous to the United States, but then so is every other special interest effecting our political process.  It is amazing how easily people will play into this and not see it for what it is.

Here we are again.  In the nature of full disclosure, I am jewish and I don’t know a lot about AIPAC, however I do know we have seen this all before.  Things go sour - can it be us?  Can it be who we elected?  Can it be the fact that Bush is interested in starting another war to divert attention from the mess he is in?  Can it be that the administration started the ware in Iraq because of the obvious benefits it has or could have reaped from the war - huge profits for its corporate friends, access to Iraq oil, the missonary desire to spread our forms of government?
No that can’t be it, its got to be the Jews because we all know they run everything.
Again I am not overly familar with AIPAC and perhaps they have too much influence.  This is a complaint I see against many lobbying groups such as the NRA.  I also do not support all of Isreal’s policies. (I do understand that those policies are often driven by fear and concerns about survival.)
What I do know is that I have 2 daughters.  What I do know is that when we start talking about the govenment being infiltrated by Zionists, about how our troubles are not us but the Jews in or behind the government pulling the strings, I get scared for my daughters because we have heard this all before.

The killer was Solomon Sheinbein. The victim was Tello. The murderer fled to Israel which claimed jurisdiction because the criminal was a jew. Israel held a trial and gave him a softball sentence. The US government has acceded to this outrage. Both the Clinton and the Bush administrations have done nothe=ing. A Republican and a Democratic Congress have done nothing. A government that allows its jurisdiction over its citizens and territory to be usurped is a colonial possession. The total slavishness of the Washington establishment is a stain upon the Constitution which is defiled by these bootlickers.

The problem with Scott Ritter’s article are two folds

1.  When people are out of POWER, they are always, or just about always democracy loving, decent, humane, just, fair, blah, blah, blah.  Watch to see if a month or two into power, they stay the same.

Act I. Remember a God-fearing, kind, loving, always praying Christian, the type who made you think if you slapped him on one cheek, he’d turn the other?  America hadn’t seen such a democracy loving man in a long time.

Act II. Then the guy became the president of the US.  Then a nation in a far distant land had a revolution and told our God-fearing, democracy loving president to just let go of them. Then our God-fearing, democracy loving, fair and just president declared what I have is mine and what you have is mine. And if you refuse to give it to me I am going to beat the heck out of you and get it by force.  To make sure everybody understood he meant business, he created from scratch what’s now known as the US Central Command.  The idea was that the US could withhold anything it wanted from others, but if the US wanted anything from others, like commodities such as oil, this Christian, God-fearing, democracy loving, just and fair president could send its military to go get it by force.

Act III. Then this guy is not a powerful president anymore. Then this guys again becomes a peace loving, God-fearing, democracy loving, Christian that suddenly again opposes to the bone anybody wants to go get some body else’s belonging by force.

His name is Jimmy Carter. But it could be Scott Ritter, or Gorge W. (a more humble foreign policy) Bush or … This is human nature, and this is the modus operandi here as everywhere else.

Never, ever fall for nice words from people out of power- especially those who had once had power and beat the heck out of the powerless. Like during Scott Ritter’s illegal inspections (who’s laws anyway? Five powerful nations that have divided 220 other nations among themselves?) during which 500,000 to 1,000,000 Iraqi children died for lack of the most rudimentary medicines- while Mr. Ritter in the service of his Empire was looking inside their mothers’ veginas and rectums to find WMD. Where were you Mr. just, fair, democracy loving, humane MR. Scott Ritter, when those children needed you most?

2. Then, the specific:

Yes, Mr. Ritter.  500 individuals have abrogated their oath to uphold the Constitution of the land. True. So have 3,000,000 of the Armed Forces and 750,000 “Law enforcement”, thousands of judges, ambassadors, local, state and federal attorneys,…., have taken the same oath.

Nuremburg Trials, initiated and run by this country established beyond any doubt that “superior’s order” is no excuse whatever in absolving one of crimes. This is the law in this country also. What happened?
How many flag officers to the lowly corporal refused illegal orders- the great sum of 1!!

Lieutenant Watada?

Why should members of Congress have more balls than the military who not only took the same oath but are supposed to die to defend it.

Sadly, Mr. Ritter, the decay and corruption, careerism and preserving one’s own immediate interest is not limited to these 500 politicians. The decay and corruption has taken root in those parts of society that matter- whether civilian, governmental and above all, the military.

Open your eyes, and don’t try to divert attention from your ilk and limit it to only 500 individuals.

Peace to all

Not only is congress and the administration completely in the Zionist corner “all the time” making no difference -in relation to israel and the middle east- which party wins the elections, but also the media in almost most of it forms. The newspapaers have been gatekepers, allowing only news sympathetic to israel or Zioism in general( witness its deplorable reaction to president’s Carter valiant attempt to expose the truth on Israel’s subversions of peace attempts and apartheid policies as one only recent example). Most commentators and news reporters on major media ( TV, cable, NPR) on the Middle East are either Jews/Zionists or profoundly pro-Israelis. Guests on these programs are also the same. Radio talk-show-hosts - disproportionally are Zionists ( and neocons) or very pro-zionists. University departments ( at the major universities) dealing with Middle East, Journalism, political departments are also packed with Zionists. Professors with non-zionist sympathies are either scared away (ganged up on) , or never considered for hiring. The examples are numerous. Yes, the more Americans realize that the Israelization of America is bad for the US both domestically and in foreign affairs, the better. ( This is the biggest fear the pro-zionists have and vehemently combat at all costs: the truth Only then the tide will be reversed. The issue has finally been exposed and has started to become a legitimate story. It is up to us -all of us- to make the difference.

I wonder how many people know that Israel perpetrated an act of war against the United States on June 8, 1967? One day before the Israeli’s attacked Syria, during the Six Day War, Israel without warning attacked the U.S.S. Liberty, in international waters off the coast of Gaza, and killed 37 crewmen and wounded 173 out of a crew of 297. The attack was sustained far longer than it would have taken to positively identify the Liberty as a US intelligence gathering ship. It is not credible that Israel didn’t know. One curious fact that underlines the incredible nature of the denials is that no less than 8 reconnaissance flights by Israeli aircraft preceded the attack. Clearly, they knew what and whom, they were attacking. And they would have known that this was an act of war.

The only question that remains to this day is, why did they do it? It would appear that the Liberty was in position to gather some intel, perhaps regarding the upcoming attack on Syria, that the Israeli’s didn’t want exposed to the US intelligence community. It can be assumed that it was something of such sensitivity that number one, they were willing to destroy a US intelligence ship and kill everyone on-board, which they clearly tried to do, to keep that secret, or if they failed in the attempt to destroy the ship and crew, be exposed for having perpetrated an act of war on the US. Clearly the 2nd possibility was what happened, and then Israel went into ass-covering mode, and called in all their markers with the US to whitewash the incident. Whatever the reason, it has been covered up to this very day.

To elaborate briefly on the intensity of the attack, crewmen afterward were given the task of counting all the holes in the ship that were larger than a man’s fist, and they counted 861 such holes. As to .50 caliber holes, those were assessed to be in the thousands. When crewman attempted to abandon ship, Israeli torpedo boats fired on them, forcing them back onto the ship, which was on fire. When firefighting crews tried to fight the fires, the torpedo boats fired upon them, forcing them below decks, to escape the murderous assault. The torpedo boats during the attack were reported to have approached to within 50 feet of the ship, so the claims that they didn’t know it was a US ship are lies.

At about the same time as the torpedo boat attacks stopped, as a result of an open transmission from the US Sixth Fleet for it’s fighters to engage and destroy the attackers, Israeli attack helicopters arrived over the ship. Survivors reported that the helicopters were packed with men in combat battle dress. Clearly, they were on station to finish the job, kill everyone on-board and sink the ship. The ship was defenseless, the crew unable to put up any defense whatsoever, and Israeli combat troops were moving to board them...do the math. The only thing that stopped them was that the US Sixth Fleet sent rules of engagement in the clear, and they knew they would be destroyed...and thus the attacks finally stopped, and the Israeli’s started with their campaign to cover their crimes.

For further details on this cowardly, vicious attack on a US ship in international waters see http://www.ussliberty.org/report/report.htm

The simple fact is, they committed an act of war against the United States, and got away with it. They murdered 37 US sailors. They’ve never been made to explain why they attacked, other than the spurious claims that it was mistaken identity. That is simply not credible. This is just one more facet of the madness that is the insidious and incestuous nature of the relationship between the US and Israel.

The surviving members of the crew are continuing to try to get the Congress to investigate this heinous act of war that cost so many lives, but so far, the Congress is showing no interest. Could AIPAC be the reason? Seems likely.

AIPAC is in the business of subversion. Its sole purpose is to make the US obeisant to Israel and Zionist intention. As the spear point for Jewish supremacist ambition in Washington, we are all too familiar that AIPAC accomplishes this through a combination of espionage, and an artful use of its financial capabilities to compromise members of congress to do its will. AIPAC’s singular access to press and media channels assure that its corruption of its “leaders” and American principals never see the light of day. Everyone of any importance in Washington knows that their careers hang on appeasing Israel, AIPAC and Jewish Lobby. This a simple and very ugly truth. Yet Ritter, who boast first rate intelligence credentials, sees no fundamental threat in AIPAC’s activity.

To believe “The Jewish People” have somehow managed to maintain genetic purity throughout the millennia requires the suspension of science and reason and the embracing of utter superstition. Ritter claims he is a “friend of Israel” while in the same breath accusing the Israelis of subverting the US government and controlling its foreign policy. But since Ritter obviously doesn’t have the guts, I am going to clarify his message for you. The US government, and by extension, the world, is secretly run by a cabal of Jews who control all government decisions and all the wolrd’s money.

Sound familiar? Let’s be honest with ourselves, people. I know the Jews are history’s favorite scapegoat, but blaming them for the mess that our government created in Iraq?

I consider myself a patriotic American. I believe in free speech, and for me, that includes hate speech, however masked it may be, and that is what can be found in the comments below. To compare the situation in Israel and the West Bak and Gaza to what the Germans did to European Jewry during WWII is not only naive and deluded, it is merely thinly veiled hate speech. These days, Israel bashing, and more recently AIPAC bashing, has become the socially accepted way to publish anti-semetic views.

To all those commenting who agree with Ritter’s publication, I would encourage you to do your homework on the subject.

While Scott correctly identifies AIPAC as the leading influencer of our political class, they are just the organizational manifestation. Even more influental are the various media sources that control and shape public opinion. No politician will dare to go against these powers, unless he is willing to commit political and economic suicide.
The question needs to be asked, what is the motivation of the American owners and managers of these media conglomerates and other financiers of a “Israel first” policy to do everything for Israel, icluding pushing it’s military prowess to a point, where even the US would not dare attack it?
It is not only emotional attachment without material advantages, it is also a reassurance for them to have in time of need a safe haven to go to. Just ask the various “oligarch” looters of Russia, how handy such a safe haven can be.
It gives those who have that access the opportunity to flout the rules of the country they reside in, allowing them to stretch the rules of the marketplace to their advantage beyond their limits and can take risks without fear of punishment. After all, they “answer to a higher authority”.
Nice advantage if you can get it.

I want to add my thought which is that justice, international law, and morality matter mean absolutely nothing if you are on the other side--but, have the votes.  That is the problem that “democracies” will always have.  Pro-Israel extremists, which includes far more than AIPAC, understand that perfectly.  The ultimate power rests not with the wisest people who understand the issues in great depth--but with those who successfully persuade a majority of people with only a superficial grasp of the issues.  The holocaust is consistently used to totally skew all discussions of the abuse of Palestinians.

Scott Ritter is correct, but as some have said the problem is much more complex than putting AIPAC out of business. Lets forget the us against them mentality. It is all about MONEY. The Crime Bosses are jockeying for the big prizes. The Dollar, control of oil, MIC, Federal Govt., and any other big monopolies. They are all partners in Crime, now so blatantly open thieves,a person can be shock and awe. Is this the big picture???

It is not really so much about Iran - it is more that Israel fears what Britain and the USA are planning with Saudi Arabia - and especially since 2005 when the U.S. defense establishment placed severe sanctions on Israel, which included restrictions on defense-related sales, joint projects and exchanges of information on advanced weapons systems over Israeli’s sale of defense equipment to China.

Israel desperately wants to divert attention to another theater of potential conflict and have a last chance as being seen as an ally of the USA. The consequences, otherwise, are that the Saudi regime will rise to power with the patronage of the US and the supply of modern military equipment will thereafter go to them instead of to Israel. That would be the end for the Zionist state and their likely eventual overthrow by the Arab nations.

Even if Iran is attacked, either by the USA or by Israel, it would then be eventually subject to occupation by a US-trained Iraqi military which would also signal an end to Zionist hegemony in the region. That is to say, there is little or no future for the Jews on the face of the Earth. Sadly, this is their own history repeating as they once tried to manipulate Rome 2,000 years ago - and more recently have done to their Palestinian Christian and Moslem brothers and sisters the same as was done to them by the Germans, etc etc.

How many lies from the Bush/Cheney gang can you swallow and still blame the hell in Iraq on liberals/lefties?

Have you no sense of shame? Or does it help you sleep at night to blame Bush’s illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq on liberals?

Record of Iraq War Lies to Air April 25 on PBS

Bill Moyers has put together an amazing 90-minute video documenting the lies that the Bush administration told to sell the Iraq war to the American public, with a special focus on how the media led the charge. I’ve watched an advance copy and read a transcript, and the most important thing I can say about it is: Watch PBS from 9:00 to 10:30 PM on Wednesday, April 25. Spending that 90 minutes will actually save you time because you’ll never watch television news again - not even on PBS, which comes in for its own share of criticism.

While a great many pundits, not to mention presidents, look remarkably stupid or dishonest in the four-year-old clips included in “Buying the War,” it’s hard to take any spiteful pleasure in holding them to account, and not just because the killing and dying they facilitated is ongoing, but also because of what this video reveals about the mindset of members of the DC media. Moyers interviews media personalities, including Dan Rather, who clearly both understand what the media did wrong and are unable to really see it as having been wrong or avoidable.

But what comes out of watching this show is a powerful realization that no investigation is needed by Congress, just as no hidden information was needed for the media to get the story right in the first place. The claims that the White House made were not honest mistakes. But neither were they deceptions. They were transparent and laughably absurd falsehoods. And they were high crimes and misdemeanors.

The program opens with video of President Bush saying “Iraq is part of a war on terror. It’s a country that trains terrorists. It’s a country that can arm terrorists. Saddam Hussein and his weapons are a direct threat to this country.”

Was that believable or did the
