In Texas, History Isn’t What It Used to BePosted on Mar 22, 2010Satire by Andy Borowitz Texas Explains Decision on History Textbooks AUSTIN, Texas —Attempting to explain its controversial decision to revamp its history textbooks, the Texas State Board of Education issued an official statement today. The one-sentence statement reads as follows: “If you were the state responsible for George W. Bush being elected president, you’d throw out your history books, too.” In other news, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it had been difficult to get Republicans to vote for health care because of a “tactical error” by President Barack Obama: “He should have called it ‘gun care.’ ” Elsewhere, employment numbers were up, largely due to the government’s decision to start counting people working on Farmville. GQ Recalls New Issue After Rielle Hunter Photo Spread Causes Nausea Advertisement “We at GQ want our readers to know that we are doing everything in our power to avert a public health catastrophe,” said magazine spokesperson Carol Foyler. “And if that means tracking down every last copy of those Rielle Hunter pictures and destroying them, that’s what we’re going to do.” As emergency rooms across the country overflowed with people who had unwittingly opened the latest GQ and seen the Hunter photos, fresh concerns were raised over the existence of a John Edwards-Rielle Hunter sex tape. Rand Deckle, press spokesman for the National Institutes of Health, issued this statement on the matter: “Given the health crisis that the Rielle Hunter photos have created, it is imperative that every copy of that sex tape be secured and buried in the center of the Earth.” Elsewhere, former Rep. Eric Massa today said he was unworried about a possible ethics investigation, telling reporters, “I welcome a probe, because it always feels good in the end.” Award-winning humorist, television personality and film actor Andy Borowitz is author of the book “The Republican Playbook.” © 2010 Creators Syndicate Previous item: Kucinich: ‘I’m Just Trying to Do the Best I Can’ Next item: The Health Care Hindenburg Has Landed New and Improved CommentsIf you have trouble leaving a comment, review this help page. The dangers of satire being outpaced by the absurdity of reality. One likes to read exciting fiction, one doesn’t really want to live it. It never is as good in fiction as it is in reality. In the state (nation) of Texas they want to be a Republic again but a hard-assed Christian one. A know-nothing murderous one where their cup is filled by the Bible and military history and glory of war as a holy rite of sacrament. Yes I do reside here and it is creepy sometimes when I think about it. Certainly not as bad as many places on this earth but give it time and circumstance and it very well could be.

Us Texans take a lot of heat, most of it deserved. But we weren’t the ones who “elected” Shrub. He wasn’t elected in 2000. He was appointed.
Report thisBut, we have a ‘Governor’ (trained by the Shrub) who thinks winning with 36% of the vote is a landslide victory. (Ya mean 1/3 is less than 2/3?? How can that be??)
Republican’s here in Texas, like elsewhere, have a real problem with the truth and facts. Both get in the way of a lie.
While this article is satire, it still hits way too close to the truth.

If Texas could just put the death penalty on history anything could happen! The possibilities are endless!

Conservative Yankee: Teaching kids to think for themselves would work if we got to them before they are introduced to the religious dogma that many of them are exposed to before ever entering school. They have already had the roots take hold as to believing everything told to them and never to think-heaven forbid- for themselves, that’s okay take my word for it and never, never ask or question the adults(authority like churches).
If we actually taught children and adults for that matter, to think for themselves, too many would be absolutely lost and not know how to function without being told what or how to do something. Also that might/would make self thinking people a threat to those who currently hold power over them.
And we can’t have that happening now can we?
Remember, the family that prays together is brainwashing the children.

I have a great idea for both the right and the left. Teach young students HOW to think, instead of WHAT to think.
That way the merits of the higher plain would win out.
Of course this would not be healthy for either the Democratic or Republican parties.

Are you sure this story is a satire? Really?
With all the stupid things to come out of Texas, the rewriting of history books to a more conservative view tops it. Are they going to do like in the book 1984? Destroy all past books, movies and any other sources of information from a certain date going back, then put the latest false version of what they claim history to be out to the public, until they decide to change their minds-do they really have a mind(brain) to change to begin with. Sort of like wasting money printing up the Republican non-budget budget that Boehner and Cantor did last year-print up a book with NO figures in it then a week later reprint another version with no valid figures in it. And the repukes keep saying they are the responsible party handling our money.
Why don’t we just cut our losses and have the rest of the country vote to withdraw Texas’s status as a state and throw them out and let them fend for themselves. At least that would be one way to get rid of some of the dumbest politicians in the country out of office, then we can go on to Alaska and Ohio.

Righties in Texas cannot decide if they prefer 1984 or 1884. They can’t choose whether to recede or secede.
Note that Fess Parker passed away yesterday - “Davy Crockett” bought his dirt farm at the Alamo.
Irony.
