New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

Please direct any problems or concerns to us via our contact page.

This Friday, June 25, will be my 66th birthday.  I wish I could have afforded the trip.  I’m in shape for it, but the $$$ made it prohibitive.  As a long-time reader and admirer of Chris’s thoughts and writings, and appreciative of Ms Kaufmann’s efforts at TD, I can’t imagine a better way to spend my spillover day than being in the White Mountains and experiencing Mt Washington (hopefully not in the way my sister did a few years ago, with a balmy day at the base and a life-threatening blizzard at the summit). Anyway, wish I was there.  Maybe next year?

Re: Richard Nixon
” If you went on this trip what would you even as him?”

First question,
Isn’t Richard Nixon dead?

Another preacher went up to the mountaintop and saw the Promised Land.  Chris, we need a vision down here!

I missed Hedges blog this morning!  What a disappointment, no Hedges to set my Monday morning attitude for the week.

If he is gone another week, my stupid optimism might return.

This decidedly working class woman will be joining Chris and Thomas tomorrow. I had to save and budget carefully in order to make it including canceling my in-home internet and collecting returnable bottles and cans but I consider it worth it to be on a hike with a certified mountain guide in the beautiful White Mountains, staying in AMC huts and enjoying what promises to be very provocative discussions with a group of exceptionally intelligent, interesting people.

I wonder how many of Chris’s working class buddies will join him on the 2100
dollar trip.

If you went on this trip what would you even ask him?

DoubleAgent will not be able to help, she has other
work this week, much more important than finding
Hedges and some TruthDiggers.

Oh my god, a terrible thought just went through my
mind (what is left), he is with some Truth Diggers.

They are going to get lost in woods, all of them….

We we all probably have to get a search party together
to rescue them and show them the way….

Well, I’m jealous of those that are on the trip for the mountain vistas and the company.  Just have to do without my “fix” this week.  Happy travels.

Hard to do without Chris Hedges’ trenchant insights, even for one week.

Chris Hedges is my favorite Truthdig contibutor.
Always provocative, never dresses it up.
A delusion-free-thinker.
