Chris Hedges Arrested in Front of Goldman Sachs

Chris Hedges made this statement in New York City’s Zuccotti Park on Thursday morning during the People’s Hearing on Goldman Sachs, which he chaired with Dr. Cornel West. The activist and Truthdig columnist then joined a march of several hundred protesters to the nearby corporate headquarters of Goldman Sachs, where he was arrested with 16 others.

Chris Hedges’ statement in Zuccotti Park:

Goldman Sachs, which received more subsidies and bailout-related funds than any other investment bank because the Federal Reserve permitted it to become a bank holding company under its “emergency situation,” has used billions in taxpayer money to enrich itself and reward its top executives. It handed its senior employees a staggering $18 billion in 2009, $16 billion in 2010 and $10 billion in 2011 in mega-bonuses. This massive transfer of wealth upwards by the Bush and Obama administrations, now estimated at $13 trillion to $14 trillion, went into the pockets of those who carried out fraud and criminal activity rather than the victims who lost their jobs, their savings and often their homes.

Goldman Sachs’ commodities index is the most heavily traded in the world. Goldman Sachs hoards rice, wheat, corn, sugar and livestock and jacks up commodity prices around the globe so that poor families can no longer afford basic staples and literally starve. Goldman Sachs is able to carry out its malfeasance at home and in global markets because it has former officials filtered throughout the government and lavishly funds compliant politicians—including Barack Obama, who received $1 million from employees at Goldman Sachs in 2008 when he ran for president. These politicians, in return, permit Goldman Sachs to ignore security laws that under a functioning judiciary system would see the firm indicted for felony fraud. Or, as in the case of Bill Clinton, these politicians pass laws such as the 2000 Commodity Futures Modernization Act that effectively removed all oversight and outside control over the speculation in commodities, one of the major reasons food prices have soared. In 2008 and again in 2010 prices for crops such as rice, wheat and corn doubled and even tripled, making life precarious for hundreds of millions of people. And it was all done so a few corporate oligarchs, the 1 percent, could make personal fortunes in the tens and hundreds of millions of dollars. Despite a damning 650-page Senate subcommittee investigation report, no individual at Goldman Sachs has been indicted, although the report accuses Goldman of defrauding its clients.

When the government in the fall 2008 provided the firm with billions of dollars in the form of cheap loans, FDIC debt guarantees, TARP, AIG make-wholes, and a late-night label-shift from investment bank to bank holding company, giving the firm access to excessive Federal Reserve aid, access [the corporation] still has, it enabled and abetted Goldman’s criminal behavior. Goldman Sachs unloaded billions in worthless securities to its clients, decimating 401(k)s, pension and mutual funds. The firm misled investors about the true nature of these worthless securities, insisted the securities they were pushing on their clients were sound, and hid the material fact that, simultaneously, they were betting against these same securities—$2 billion against just one of their deals. The firm then had the gall to extort from its victims—us—to make good on its bets when the global economy it helped trash lost $40 trillion in worldwide wealth and huge insurance firms were unable to cover their bad debts.

The Securities Act of 1933, established in the wake of the massive fraud that pervaded the securities market before the 1929 Crash, was written to ensure that “any securities transactions are not based on fraudulent information or practices.” The act “prohibits deceit, misrepresentation, and other fraud in the sale of securities.” The subcommittee report indicates that Goldman Sachs clearly broke security laws.

Square, Site wide
As part of the political theater that has come to replace the legislative and judicial process, the Securities and Exchange Commission agreed to a $550 million settlement whereby Goldman Sachs admitted it showed “incomplete” information in marketing materials and that it was a “mistake” to not disclose the nature of its portfolio selection committee. This fine was a payoff to the SEC by Goldman Sachs of about four days’ worth of revenue, and in return they avoided going to court. CEO Lloyd Blankfein apparently not only lied to clients, but to the subcommittee itself on April 27, 2010, when he told lawmakers: “We didn’t have a massive short against the housing market, and we certainly did not bet against our clients.” Yet, they did.

And yet nothing has been done. No Goldman Sachs officials have gone to trial. This is because there is no way within the corporate state to vote against the interests of Goldman Sachs. There is no way through the formal mechanisms of power to restore the rule of law. There is no way to protect the ordinary citizen and the poor around the globe from the predatory activity of financial institutions such as Goldman Sachs. Since our courts refuse to put on trial the senior executives at Goldman Sachs, including Blankfein, who carried out these crimes and lied to cover them up, we will. Speculators like those in Goldman Sachs—who in the 17th century when speculation was a crime would have been hanged—must be prevented by law from again destroying our economy, preying on ordinary citizens, hoarding food so the poor starve and running our political process. We are paying for these crimes—not those who orchestrated perhaps the most massive fraud in human history. Our teachers, police, firefighters and public employees are losing their jobs so speculators like Blankfein can make an estimated $250,000 a day. Working men and women are losing their homes and going into personal bankruptcy because they cannot pay their medical bills. Our unemployed, far closer to 20 percent than the official 9 percent, are in deep distress all so a criminal class, a few blocks from where I speak, can wallow in luxury with mansions and yachts and swollen bank accounts.

What we are asking for today is simple—it is a return to the rule of law. And since the formal mechanisms of power refuse to restore the rule of law, then we, the 99 percent, will have to see that justice is done.

EVOLUTION INTO SOCIAL REGRESSION

THE RISE AND FALL OF A PSEUDO REPUBLICAN DEMOCRACY

The future plans for our Republic has been well lain.
Eventually, we will have three distinct levels of
national society. The unknown ruling element will
remain intact. Too, the unshakable middle class will
stay afloat. As to the thinning, the slow climbers
into the middle class will be completely eliminated.
This will leave a national mob under the nation wide
police state, as it expands today. All state and
federal employees will receive the highest pay, in
order to control them. Our Republic will be
reconstructed, as to the have and those who have
nothing but soup lines. Artificial inflation plus the
professions striving from Medicare recipients will
dwindle, while the undesirables are slowly fed
poisoned food and the lack of medical care. A
standing military will be well fed and clothed. This
new dictator ship will be absolutely merciless. And
the circus will proceed on its well planned events in
crucifying any press club that fails to buckle down
under physical and mental slavery!

Check out a typical conservative zealot as he melts down before your eyes.

He (Joe Walsh - a republican congress member and a Wall Street thug) hates regulations by the government. In fact, he hates the government with gusto but he enjoys drawing pay checks from the government. He does not understand how unregulated markets led to the current economic woes in America. Rather he blames the homeowners as the ONLY problem for the economic mess.

It is like this: You go to a car dealership to buy a car on credit. The car salesperson who supposes to check your credit worthiness does not do his job of checking your credits and your ability to make payments for the car because he knows he could sell the car to you and earn a huge profit, and then turns around and repossess the car to make more profits. Further, supposing that all the car dealers in America does business like this because they have infiltrated the American lawmakers with bribes thereby securing influences and laws to back up their evil designs. Notice that the words “legislations” and “laws” mean the same thing in this context; the same crooked lawmakers enact the laws that protect the crooked salesperson who rips off the car buyers; but making good laws to protect the consumers is evil. The thug in the video hates laws when laws protect the consumers, but he loves laws when laws protect the crooked salesperson. After watching the video, read the article below it to appreciate how the mortgage mess started because NO EFFECTIVE LAWS/REGULATIONS were in the books:

Hence their audacity to silence everyone who speaks the truth about their wickedness

Accurate observation regarding Zionists.  Their consummate attempts to silence the truth is obvious in their verbal puke-outs, whether verbose, or short, “catchy” phraseology.

Zionist media propaganda, seeking an attack on Iran, reflects Israeli-Zionist jealousy, fearful of losing exclusive nuke ownership in the region.  Repeated expression of the “me-first” demand, the result of world indulgence, pursuant to the Zionist/Hitler false-flag, “The Holocaust.”  Between four and six million Jewish folk murdered by their leaders, via Zionist/British planning.

Bloggers and politicians who state otherwise, display grievous information deficits.
Some of whom are property of Zionists, are simply puppetry, who must use their intelligence to support Zionism, instead of human altruism.  Some of whom are even gratis puppetry, which is difficult to believe, considering their hours of blogging.

In spite of their murders, genocide, and banking frauds, Zionists and puppetry will never silence the truth.

These people have perfected their wickedness and they have taken over every institution that supports and nurtures democracy. I challenge everyone here to listen to the speech given by FDR in 1936. If FDR gives the same speech today, he would be silenced by the same thugs and traitors who silence anyone who speaks the truth of their treason.

FDR once shouted that the government of the US has been taken over by mobs: “government organized by money is as dangerous as government organized by mobs”.

FDR also shouted that the traitors hate him because he spoke the truth concerning their treason: “I welcome their hatred”. Listen to FDR’s speech here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjSTQwamo8M&feature=player_embedded

FDR was referring to the hucksters and bankers – the same thieves who have now gotten out of control in their greed and poised to destroy this country without blinking. Children and their parents are being thrown out of their homes even when the parents paid their mortgages for years:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/06/05/982188/-If-you-have-a-mortgage,-read-this

They act as if they own the world and everyone in the world. They now act as if the American people are their slaves. But they have made a big mistake this time because the American people are now waking up, and what follows from here will not be pretty for the traitors.

A LONG ROW TO HOW

MS: Revolutionary change is necessary

Nope, evolutionary change is necessary. Learn the difference.

Revolution is the destruction of one political system and its replacement by another. As happened when the Russian Tsar was deposed and replaced by Communism. (Which proved inevitably to be a bankrupt political and economic philosophy.)

At about the same time, there was a Progressive Movement in the US towards a Social Democracy at the turn of the Century (20th). In fact, it was winding up around when the Russian Tsar was deposed.

America can be saved from the clutches of the Plutocrats if a Neo-Progressive Movement can be established with a more modern interpretation in terms of prospectives. That is, towards the Social Democracy that Europe was able to develop over the past six decades since WW2.

Social Democracy takes time to implement real enhancements that genuinely benefit the well-being of a nation’s citizens. There is NO QUICK FIX - abracadabra, the banksters stop bankstering, our economy grows on the back of full employment and Income Unfairness dissipates like the morning dew.

That just aint gonna happin.

And since it is a long row to how, the sooner we get started, the sooner our children will enjoy better lives. And most of us a better retirement.

Hi Lafayette,

I agree with the points in your posts below, particularly the ones
about reforming the electoral system.

An issue that goes hand in hand with enacting economic and electoral
form is breaking out the television news media from corporate prisons.

One idea is to force the national television news outlets to host
debates that they, and the major political parties, do not control.
Journalists working for the networks would not be allowed to ask
questions.  All candidates who are on the ballot in all states would
be allowed to attend, regardless of the stage of the election.  The
debates would be throughout the primaries and the general election.

Lafayette, your writing is quite formal. Forgive the profanity in the
next statement, but I think it’s to the point.

Basically, this would be a much needed fuck you to television media
personalities posing as journalists, to the networks themselves, and
to the moronic candidates whose only qualification for the presidency
is a sociopathic aptitude for acquiring money.

Who would ask the questions?  Academics. College professors.
Economists. Scientists.  For example, if the topic being discussed is
the destruction of the ecosystem supporting human life, you don’t let
some ratings-hungry journalist who doesn’t know a goddamn thing about
science ask the questions.  You let some guy with an IQ of 160 whose
been studying ecosystems his whole life ask the questions. And you
let him nail the candidates’ asses to the wall when the candidates
demonstrate their ignorance of the subject.

Likewise, you want academics and scientists asking the questions
because they are more likely to read a candidates detailed position
papers and ask relevant questions.  Some of best candidates are not
good at raising money, but they do have good ideas. Candidates should
be judged on the merits of their ideas, not on the contents of their
wallets.  It’s common sense. Journalists cannot handle it because
their incomes depend on advertising revenue. Journalists can twist
themselves into philosophical knots until their heads are shoved up
their Socratic asses but the bottom line is this: Basing the number of
questions you ask a candidate on how he is doing in the latest poll is
the best way to ensure we end up with a tyrannical psychopath in The
White House.

Makes these debates long, in prime time and commercial free.

Why is this important for electoral reform?  Because candidates and
the news media have a simple policy at present:  You cannot play the
game unless you raise and spend millions.  If you reach a debate and
haven’t raised and spent millions, you will be humiliated with inane,
derogatory questions and then ignored and excluded as the election
continues. Such reforms would make it possible for candidates with
good ideas and not a lot of money to reach out and communicate with
the American public.

In closing, Lafayette, good luck in all your endeavors. I believe you
are on the right track.  Reforming the television news media will help
with your plans.

Higher education has poisoned thousands of souls, in
the field of religions. One main issue is the racial
lineage of Jesus Christ. Christ was of the seed line
of the house of David, in the tribe of Juda. Notice,
not the tribe of Juda. This is because Christ’s
lineage was pure back through Joseph, who was sold
into Egypt, to Abraham and Noah, and even back to
Adam and Eve. Christ was of pure lineage, and was
pure through Shem, second son of Noah. The patriarch,
Isaac
warned his sons to marry into Shem’s lineage only.In
respect, God’s people was pure blooded from the time
of his influence before the great deluge, Enock, son
of Adam, spoke of God and foretold of his coming and
his death. Jacob, son of Enock was informed too.

All too often, innocent souls claim that Christ was
of Jewish lineage. Jewish is a nick-name and an
adjective. In fact, Christ was called this adjective
perception in total ignorance because He was Jewish
by citizenship, for being born in Jerusalem. This is
like being called citizenship as a race, but is not
true.

Further, Shakespere never used the word Jew in his ”
Merchant of Venice.” In fact, this nomination of such
tendency to twist history is a calculated to play on
the ignorant and super ignorant’s idolatry in falling
into line, in believing that the word Jew can be
found in Martin Luther’s version of the Bible, for
the word Jew did not exist.

Clearly, mankind can trace their individual lineages
back to one of Noah’s three sons, Japhet, Shem and
Ham. The lost identity of millions of people has been
blinded by the minions of subversive eastern-world,
anti-West Christianity. This war is being carried on
through the contemporary modern day descendants of
ancient Esau the Red. This is where Red Russia got
its name. Ancient Esau’s influence is the father of
our modern day subversive political whoredom,
emanating historically from the eastern world of
Oriental religious fundamentalism—these are not
Israelites, as Esau came through the lineage of Shem.

Further, the late President Herbert Hoover, a Quaker
as to religion, had written his autobiography
published in 1947. Hoover made it plain that America
was following the ways of ancient Esau. Hoover did
not blame any particular bankers nor business men.
All to often, various individual people or nations
are pointed to as to being subversive, in their
religious functionaries. The most absurd thought is
to blame others, for our own misled way through life
is through misunderstanding the ways of man, because
most people do not know their own ancestry back to
the day that Noah closed the Ark, and let a lost
mankind to wallow in their ignorance, of what was to
follow. Considering as to the future of our
republic’s future, we must not let blind religious
thoughts lead us into a national abyss of misdirected
hate.

The US Government has been infiltrated and the country has been invaded and occupied by enemies and traitors.
They enemies are powerful and relentless, and nothing we say or do in peace will dislodge them or remove them from the government or public space. Read the American history to understand that fighting injustice and slavery in the current generation required another bloody conflict and revolution. The only honorable path to reclaiming America is sustained guerrilla warfare, and that warfare must start in New York city - that is where the traitors live, that is their base.

There are many great comments in this thread.

I didn’t see any on this subject, forgive me if it has been mentioned
and I missed it:

Imagine if Chris Hedges had been arrested for having sex with a
prostitute and a stash of cocaine had been found in his possession as
well.

Can you see the headlines:

Former NY Times Middle East Bureau Chief Busted for Illicit Sex
and Drugs

And wall to wall coverage as they tormented him on the modern pillory
known as TV.

But, no, what Mr. Hedges is doing is based on principle, intellect,
and a keen sense of justice.  It is therefore ignored in the media
as mere advocacy and activism that does not merit news coverage.

What a fucked up profession modern journalists work in.  Whores and
dope are headline news. Judicious commentary, principled stands and
sacrifices are ignored.

Break up the television news media into little bitty pieces.  Maybe
then the pieces when will be greater than the whole.

Well said. Ron Paul would bring the troops home. And “end the Fed.” I know, there are a lot of problems with Paul’s platform, but given the alternatives, it seems to me this is our best (and only) shot for any change this election, even if it only means we change the conversation. The outsiders on the left and right need to come to a consensus before we can take on the criminal empire that currently owns the govt. The U.S. sure ain’t Denmark—to find that consensus we’ll have to make some concessions to the Bible belt, etc. I don’t know…

Anyway, I liked your comment. Hope we can get it done, somehow someway.

The following video shows Mayor Bloomberg saying that banks have nothing to do with the mortgage crisis:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPXVZONjqek

The following article repeats the same claim:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/67433.html

Mayor Bloomberg is worse than Bernard Madoff.
People say that Mayor Bloomberg is a billionaire.
Can someone here tell me what he produced or sold to earn the billions under his name.

Those people are reason America is imploding. What they are doing to America and to Americans is 1000 times worse than what they have been doing to the Palestinians. They have perfected their wickedness and satanic greed with their treatment of Palestinians. They are now desensitized to lies, injustice, and greed, and they do not think twice when they treat Americans as they have been treating other people.

Today, they regard President Jimmy Carter as an anti-semite and hater. President Carter is anything but a hater or anti-semite. The man only tells the truth about how to resolve the problems in Palestine. Even President Obama has been called an anti-semite by the brother-in-law of Netanyahu:

http://www.haaretz.com/news/netanyahu-s-brother-in-law-obama-is-an-anti-semite-1.264903

It is if those people have no faults, and if anyone points out their faults, he is quickly silenced with labels of anti-semitism and hater. They defend everything except America and the American people.

If America is not worth defending against all enemies, foreign and domestic, then there is no point wasting our breathe. We should simply shut up and allow the satanic people to turn us into their slaves as they have been doing to other human beings in many nations around the world.

Bloomberg is evil, and there are tons of them in the Wall Street.

Breaking News that the MS Media Will Never Break to You!

America easily take top honors, followed by Israel, Britain and France, as the Real Axis of Evil.

A new European Commission poll rated 15 countries. Respondents called Israel the biggest threat to world peace. So did past surveys, including a previous 2003 European Commission one.

The Occupy Wall Street Movement, should rename itself “The Occupy Evil America Movement” and should articulate in their demands that America needs to distance itself from the other Axis of Evil Entities, especially Israel.

This is not only a moral demand for Americans, but also a core economic one since the Wall Street 1% have been sleeping in bed with Israel since its illegitimate foundation, and Israel is the place where they hide a great deal of their stolen money, knowing quite well that Israel is the safest place to hide and invest that dirty money beyond the reach of the justice system!

May I remind my fellow oppressed Americans of the Zionist Bernie Madoff and his stealing scheme to mention just one from among many! And isn’t Golden Sachs essentially a Zionist dominated entity?!

Lafayette?  Why the persona?
“The economic dynamic of this country is so fragile that even the slightest harm to its system of distribution will cause grievous hurt around the nation. It is possible that people just die of hunger.”

It’s pretty messed up when a country has an economic system that causes people to die of hunger when there is the slightest of fluctuations.  You make a good argument for abandoning the system altogether.  You don’t even have to mention the fact that the food that people get through the system is laced with contaminants to begin with, and growing and shipping of that food causes severe harm to our air and water.

The ballot box?  You talk as if the ballot box has proven in the past to be a vehicle for major progressive change.

Revolutionary change is necessary, and the rich and powerful will be the ones to escalate the violence, not the ones demanding change.

MY POINT

Let’s concentrate on the pre-election policy fundamentals of a candidate that affect our daily lives and that or our families. Not the media gloss, which dissipates into nothingness two seconds after the results are in.

The way candidates are chosen, Lafayette,  in our restrictive two party system, negates the finding of worthy progressives among them in most cases. Those few who do gain office with progressive credentials are lost amidst the top down hierarchy that controls how campaign funds are dispersed, which committees a legislator will join, and almost every facet of her political life in fact. Whatever happened to Al Franken anyway?

To expect to find decent candidates within the two party system seems a futile effort.

It is the ignorance and indifference regarding the political system displayed by at least half the American population that makes the environment so safe for politicians to play in. The Goldman Sachs’s of this world support the games financially while the illusion of power supplies the motive for the ego-driven political mouthpieces.

We, the people, cannot rely on information from any source to be accurate, true and timely. It follows that we, the people, really don’t know what we’re talking about. We have only the smallest trickle of first hand info and even that, when broadcast, is the baby that’s pretty much thrown out with the bathwater. The rest is all hearsay, conjecture, bias, prejudice and assumption - not good sources upon which to make intelligent decisions. Everyone seems to have an agenda the pursuit of which takes precedence over fairness and facts.

Trust in our leaders and our system is lost, I fear to never recover. I submit that our shoddy deck of cards will soon collapse with the jackpot going to the biggest and best cheats and charlatans.

Who the hell cares? One cannot be elected dog-catcher in this country without
amassing a considerable amount of money.  Lafayette

Billions of us, around the earth, care.
Who pulled the trigger in a murder continues to be occasionally useful nowadays in a
few courts.  It may be even more useful to future generations.  That is, assuming that
the Israeli-Zionist plan to destroy Iran does not initiate essential destruction of the
habitable portions of the earth, and pollute the remainder.

That wealth and political influence are basic requirements for election to any position
of importance in the U.S. is well known.  Having a wealthy, movie-star spouse is also
gaining increasing importance.  Take Sarkozy for example.  The Frenchman who
divorced his wife in order to acquire Bruni, whom “the media” has used to distract from
Sarkozy´s stupid decisions.  Like leading NATO to destroy Muammar AL QADDAFI
and Libya. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHVlU2jHT70&feature=related

Libya, with a live birth rate and literacy rate comparable to the U.S. , higher in
specific areas.  Lybia, with the highest living standard in Africa, and increasing, until
“they” were destroyed by the Sarkozy puppetry of NATO, on orders from the
GHWBushSr entourage.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_standard_of_living_in_libya

Your “pre election fundamentals” deserve retrospective application to the current
occupant of the POTUS “slot”.  Instead of mis-labeling such fundamentals as “birther
conspiracy”.  The CIA and Israeli-Zionists have acquired too much undeserved
mileage from the two words, conspiracy and holocaust.  When closely viewing the
available facts, 9-11 might be considered their 2nd holocaust, however of a mini
nature.  They only murdered between three and five thousand people this time, while
demolishing asbestos-laden buildings ordered to be sanitized, copping a huge
insurance pay-off for their members, destroying the team in the Pentagon that was
hunting the two trillion dollars that had disappeared into Zionist accounts, and CIA
records of “black” operations contained in bldg 4.

THE MEDIA GLOSS IN PRESIDENTIAL POLITICKING

jcp: Even more interesting is the question, why did Goldman Sachs give Obama, or promise Obama, vastly more money than they gave to Hillary

Who the hell cares? One cannot be elected dog-catcher in this country without amassing a considerable amount of money.

The answer to the above quoted question is unimportant, since we all realize that campaign donations are central to mounting a successful political campaign in America.

The question that must be answered is why campaigns cannot be financed ONLY in the following two manners:
* Since Americans are such a politically blasé people with one of the poorest voter turnout records of any nation, why not allow unlimited donations to non-partisan “get out the vote”?
* That the recent judgment of a derelict Supreme Court (indulging upon “legislating from the bench”) allowing corporations to give unlimited amounts to PACS is deadwood to be cleared out as soon as possible. It should be replaced by a regulation that allows only donations by individual electoral-age citizens, capped at $2500 and matched dollar-per-dollar by Federal subsidies (ditto state subsidies on the state level).
* Rid this country of gerrymandering that carves electoral districts in a manner ossifying our political dynamic into a two-party system.

In that manner, maybe we shall have campaigns with less Media Hoopla and more concentration of party fundamentals. The money unspent on gigantic presidential campaign razzmatazz can be better expended elsewhere. Besides, the media messaging is very like selling soap-powder - the “candidate that washes whiter than white” versus the “opposition with a dirty character”.

We, the sheeple, are being treated like simpletons - which will continue until we demand and exact more from our political class.

MY POINT

Let’s concentrate on the pre-election policy fundamentals of a candidate that affect our daily lives and that or our families. Not the media gloss, which dissipates into nothingness two seconds after the results are in.

Which is why a litmus-test of progressive values must be applied. For which, I have proposed for debate this Progressive Agenda for Political Action. The more progressive values are expressed in Congress, the more protected it shall all be from the manipulation of our Plutocrat Class.

Such a debate is the starting point for educating the American public about reforming our political class towards obtaining more Social Justice for Jack ‘n Jill America and their children.

With a broken judiciary, it’s good to hear that the
Goldman Sachs is being tried in the court of public
opinion in Freedom Park in lower Manhattan.  I think
the OWS movement should take on the role of shadow
government and hold mock trials and write shadow
legislation.  If our so called representatives have
decided to represent someone else, then we should
step up to fulfill these crucial roles.  And who
better to do this than OWS?

Another thought, since the Roberts court is so
duplicitous, it could be effective to approach the
International Court of Justice in Geneva to give
muscle to the proceedings of the new OWS shadow
court.  Surely the tentacle like reach of the Goldman
Sachs and their manipulation of worldwide commodities
markets puts them in the jurisdiction of the ICJ.  Or

Doesn’t anyone else find this “people’s trial” reminiscent of Stalinist Russia?

I thought the whole process rather sad. Chris Hedges was at least coherent
albeit frequently wrong. Cornell West was merely incoherent.

There are many dubious claims in the statement but one of the more bizarre
ones is “there is no way within the corporate state to vote against the interests
of Goldman Sachs”. That just sounds whiny. If that’s really true then form a
political party and change things. A sad march of just 150-200 people to the
Goldman building won’t change much.  Maybe people just don’t care that much
or maybe they were turned off by the creepy show trial vibe.

All that stuff about the Goldman Sachs commodity index is nonsense. You know
Goldman doesn’t even own the index? It’s owned by S&P. Speculation on
commodity futures no more increases the price of food than betting on whether
it’ll be raining tomorrow actually changes the weather. See:

Until Obama ran for president I paid no attention to
political news other than checking the wind direction
occasionally.

The wind hasn’t changed direction for decades. Only
intensity. If the hippies who gave up and became
programmers and system analysts for the corporations had
held their ground then their children and grand children
would not have to be occupying the cold.

We have known for decades that a two party system looks
incredibly footballish when little countries like Denmark
with four million citizens have seven viable political
parties, some of them even without corrupt lobbyists and sneak pocketed congresses?

As I learned the Danish language in Denmark’s
Studieskolen after work in the evening I practiced
talking with Danes everywhere. Of course their English
was better than my Danish since every Dane has twelve
years of English before graduating high school. They
humored me long enough to talk with them in their own
tongue. They discussed politics.

They teased me. “Jack, why did you let that Ronald Reagan
become president?” I did not need to reply. They knew.
What else can a two party system do but change the goal
from one end of the field to the other?

Did you think the media muckers were making football
popular JUST to sell you beer?

No! Yes, they wanted to sell you beer but every good
capitalist has two games going: his side and the other
side.

All that to say this. Chris Hedges you are correct in
pointing the finger often at President Obama. It is not
difficult to do so justly. Start thinking anywhere you
like. My starting point was Obama’s occupation of a
bedroll in the nuclear energy camp.

When Obama turned a blind eye to the crimes of the
Christian Criminal Crusade and no gallows appeared on
Pennsylvania Avenue, old hippies come software analysts
were not fooled. YOU PARDON CRIMINALS IN ORDER TO
OSTENSIBLY LEGITIMATELY STOOP TO THEIR LEVEL OF
CORRUPTION.

When you ensure that a captured Bin Laden is shot before
he can spill the beans about who planned NINE ELEVEN, no
one but the blind are deceived.

Does anyone think that a POTUS who condones murder and
incarceration without trial is concerned about the forced
plight of the unfortunate?

Does anyone really think that a POTUS who continues and
expands unjust wars is just?

Does anyone think a POTUS who simply is slipperier about
saying “mission accomplished” than his predecessor is a
more excellent executive?

And DOES THAT POTUS REALLY THINK A GIANT NAVAL FLEET OFF
THE COAST OF IRAQ INSTEAD OF A LAND BASED OCCUPATION
FOOLS ANYONE INTO THINKING THE WAR HAS ENDED AND THE OIL
COMPANIES, EXXON ET AL, DON’T STILL HAVE CONTROL OF THE
DISTRIBUTION OF IRAQI OIL?

Why are so many so sick of Obama chicanery when the
Republicans are a thousand times more dastardly?

Because, to allude to a joke as old as the profession
behind it, we know well what the Republicans are. With
Obama we’re just talking price.

Why is no worthy statesman mounting a third party horseman of the apocalypse?

He along with Michael Moore can be the nucleus of a third party that should easily defeat the tyranny of both the Republicans and the Democrats. If each one of us the 99% can contribute $ 50 to $ 100, I am sure that the Republican and Democratic parties will soon become something from a bad history!

On another level, Chris Hedges’ eloquently well-documented piece is sufficient enough for a criminal indictment of Golden Sachs in a court of justice; no further documentation is needed by highly-paid lawyers to make the case! inverted political whoredom, as tied to various
interfaith religions. No doubt about it, we have
millions of humanoids within our national borders,
these slackers suck the State dry as literal
parasites; and all tax payers are being bled white
from an universal syndicated of money-managing social
engineering in bringing America down unto a Third
Word Banana republic. Absolutely this is a spiritual
war and nothing more nor less. In aFor sure, humanism
is a movement towards universal socialism. Most
humanoids flock together, in creating a national
network of free-loading parasites under national and
state governments. One can drag a vast net across
America and will pull in millions of subhumans being
entitled to one monstrous paternal outlet called
Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam is broke now, and parasites want
to level a nation to a no-man’s land, in the hands of
mobocrats. Searching through this maize of human
drift wood, we will find only a hand full of men !The
late Karl Marx, contrary to higher education’s in
determining the opposite, did have a religion. Marx’s
political philosophy paralells that of the Talmud.
There are hundreds of Gods on the this earth—
Communism is thought control; without free speech and
its natural guardians, our Republic falls by the
wayside.Decades past, a powerful warrior burst forth
speaking these words, ” When human hearts break, when
human souls despair, then from the twilight of the
past, a withering hand is held forth–woe unto those
who do not take heed.’

Lafayette: “SO WHAT DO WE DO? We wake up to the power of the ballot box.”

Gimme a break! Haven’t you learned the lessons of 2000, 2004, and 2008? All of your well-intentioned “reforms” will go nowhere, and there’s no way to “elect” decent candidates because the system is rigged and we know it.

When the swindling continues, when the PTB start cutting SS & Medicare, and when the police are cracking down on lawful peaceful protests, what do we do?

Your “gentle” advocacy of working through the system (ballot box) just doesn’t cut it, my friend. The only way is through nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience, and if masses of protesters and eloquent protagonists like Chris Hedges keep getting arrested and ignored by the PTB, what then? Others have already answered that.

To the true patriots of America and Europe,

There’s a huge chasm opened up in society and its
running straight through the heart of Europe and
America.

This chasm is a division between the global elites
and ordinary working people and its rapidly reaching
a tipping point. Its like we have two separate
societies in Europe and in America where one part of
society, or 99% of the population, are forced to pay
the other part of society, the elite 1%, their hard
earned wealth through a con-trick called austerity
measures, or the translated version of austerity
measures…

“Immediate government sanctioned wealth confiscation
of ordinary persons wealth to help the elites pay off
each others “so called” digital debt.”

This whole manufactured crisis has nothing much to do
with differing countries currencies or debt. Its
becoming more and more evident that the global elite
have seen an opportunity to make a play and grab the
biggest ever prize in human history…Global
domination!

wake-up now people…or you’ll sleep forever.

Hedges’ synopsis of Goldman made me ask myself if I really could conceive of
such a deep level of greed. Taking the people’s money for bonuses, though, was
an infantile FU, something I can grasp. It’s also something that millions of us will
never forget.

BACK TO BUSINESS-AS-USUAL

Chuck : However, it just goes to show you how POWERFUL the media machine is that it SOMEHOW brainwashed all of us Americans to hate violent revolutions when that is EXACTLY how this country was born in the first place!

Nice sentiment but way off base if you are fomenting revolution.

The economic dynamic of this country is so fragile that even the slightest harm to its system of distribution will cause grievous hurt around the nation. It is possible that people just die of hunger. Just look at what Katrina did. Just look at how a prolonged heat-spell in Chicago can cause tremendous loss of life.

We, as a nation, can make war around the planet … but we cannot even take care of ourselves in case of a national calamity. So, please, as difficult as the present situation is, let’s not wish even further calamity upon our people brought about by a revolution.

SO WHAT DO WE DO?

We wake up to the power of the ballot box. We, the sheeple, have far too much political apathy. It took a major economic recession to bring us to this uprising of disgust and indignation. And as soon as unemployment gets back up to 4/5%,  watch the indignation evaporate like the morning dew.

They are treating us like the sheeple that we are. In a way, if we do not understand and demand progressive reformation of this country, when the indignation calms itself it’s back to “business as usual”.

We must find a way to coalesce around a well-conceived Progressive Agenda For Political Action. It must be a paramount objective to educate the American people of how they’ve been disabused by the Plutocrat Class … and that it has been going on for two centuries. (Yes, that long – even the available economic data show it to be true.)

Towards that end, I contribute this “pamphlet” to spark the debate.

Reforming the American Way-of-Life such that we can all benefit and not just a few is a complex undertaking. It ain’t easy and there is no Quick Fix. The process could easily take a generation.

POST SCRIPTUM

Living in France, I have seen with my own eyes how Social Justice can better the lives of people. A Social Democracy based upon progressive values can certainly enhance the well-being of a people, if they will only adopt it.

Let us not let this occasion pass. Another will not come around for a great long while.

There is a war going on, but it didn’t start with
OWS.  OWS was its response.  Bill Moyers from Common
Dreams:

“Powell was shocked by what he called an “attack
on the American free enterprise system.” Not just
from a few “extremists of the left” but also from
“perfectly respectable elements of society,”
including the media, politicians and leading
intellectuals. Fight back and fight back hard, he
urged his compatriots. Build a movement. Set speakers
loose across the country. Take on prominent
institutions of public opinion—especially the
universities, the media and the courts. Keep
television programs “monitored the same way textbooks
should be kept under constant surveillance.” And
above all, recognize that political power must be
“assiduously [sic] cultivated; and that when
necessary, it must be used aggressively and with
determination” and “without embarrassment.”

Powell imagined the Chamber of Commerce as a council
of war. Since business executives had “little stomach
for hard-nosed contest with their critics” and
“little skill in effective intellectual and
philosophical debate,” they should create think
tanks, legal foundations and front groups of every
stripe. These groups could, he said, be aligned into
a united front through “careful long-range planning
and implementation…consistency of action over an
indefinite period of years, in the scale of financing
available only through joint effort, and in the
political power available only through united action
and united organizations.”

heterochromatic,
we cld say that no protest in u.s is identical in all aspects with any other; thus, the
latest one also differing from any previous one.
so, i cal it a novelty, an uniqueness, or unlike any other.
let’s recall that protesters who protested the war against ‘nam have, in the main [and if
my memory serves], objected to that war because it was an immoral war to them.

and, of course, morally, legally, and constitutionally a must for some americans;
whether it is 1% of pop or 10-90% i don’t know; since referendum was never held to go
to war against ‘nam or to stop it once it got under way.

as far as i had been able to ascertain, at least some americans now think bush is a war
criminal. they also call for his prosecution!
that’s never happened before.

previously, a prez cld be wrong, mistaken, etc., but never a war criminal when u.s wld
attack lands like korea, afgh’n, cuba, or even iraq ‘03.

and for the first time these, protesters want also ‘free’ healthcare/education; more
basic freedoms/security for all of u.s citizens.
seems to me this is a novelty also.

btw, by ‘free’ i mean it is not free. the more and more people wld be well-educated, the
more wld such people pay back the initial costs of educating them.
i just cannot see how educating well more people than ever before cld hurt america or
americans!

and these protester will not, i assume, vote for lady gaga, clooney, angelina, pitt [if
they’d run] nor for ron paul, bachmann, cain, obama.
or am i mistaken?

thus, i expect obama—together with whoever runs against him [however, never
against the system—but only a person] may not get 98% of the ballots cast.

how about only 90-95%? now that’s the change i dare believe in!

there may be other novelties in the latest protest. tnx

Perhaps if they did, the current situation, where the guilty are rewarded and their victims saddled with forced austerity would be otherwise.

I ditto wishing I could be there with you on the front lines in Zucotti Park. But since I can’t, a large group of Humboldt County, Northern California OWS’ers are going tomorrow, beginning at our County Courthouse then marching to the respective banks, to echo what you’re doing.
