Attack of the Super PACsPosted on Dec 23, 2011
While the Iowa Republican caucuses might not tell us much about who will win the party’s presidential nomination, they already reveal plenty about how the new world of unlimited campaign contributions is corrupting politics. As for the campaign itself, it will be difficult to make sense of the caucus results. The candidates echo one another on the issues, except for wild libertarian Rep. Ron Paul. The bottom line is that no matter who wins this first contest, the party’s nominee is likely to be determined by primaries down the road. However, Iowa has become the first real test on the national stage of clout exerted by big political action committees sanctioned by the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which permits unlimited fundraising and spending by corporations, unions and others. Clearly the most important development in the Iowa campaign has been the secretive political action committees that finance negative advertising, most of it done by supporters of Mitt Romney and directed against Newt Gingrich. Citizens United opened the door for the creation of something called independent expenditure-only committees, popularly called “super PACs.” There are almost 300 of them, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, including the NFL Sports Player Super PAC, Conservatives for Truth, the Brady Bunch PAC, and Crossroads GPS, run by Karl Rove, the Republican operative and former political adviser to President George W. Bush. Many PACs will never be activated. But others will be dumping money into national and local elections for advertising so negative that candidates won’t want their names attached to the messages. The presidential campaigns are well represented by the super PACs. Make Us Great Again backs Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Our Destiny PAC represents former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman’s campaign. Former aides of President Obama have formed Priorities USA Action. The undisputed super PAC champion is Restore Our Future, created by former aides to Mitt Romney. Advertisement Some of the big contributors to Restore Our Future are listed in federal records, including John A. Paulson, the hedge fund manager who, The New York Times noted, made more than $15 billion for his firm by betting on the collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market in 2007 and 2008. A more intriguing contributor was the mysterious and short-lived company called W Spann LLC, which gave more than $1 million to Restore Our Future. Michael Isikoff of NBC reported that the company was set up in Delaware on March 15, made its contribution to Restore Our Future on April 28 and then filed a “certificate of cancellation,” effectively dissolving on July 11. Filing the papers was a lawyer working for a firm whose clients include Bain Capital, the investment firm formerly headed by Romney. There is no record of what W Spann did or of the names of its employees. The lawyer who filed the paperwork, her firm and the super PAC wouldn’t comment on the matter. While there is no record that they contributed to Spann, Bain employees have been big supporters of the Romney campaign, giving $1.25 million to Restore Our Future. I’m not going to mourn the damage Restore Our Future’s slashing television advertisements have done to Gingrich. The former House speaker has earned the punishment. He is campaigning as a pro-Israel right-winger and reborn family man to win votes in Iowa caucuses dominated by evangelical Christians and other ultraconservatives. After Iowa, he will campaign as something else, depending on the state. And the hypocrisy of Romney and Restore Our Future does not surprise me. Our future under Romney would be grim. He has pledged to create jobs, even after Bain’s mergers and acquisitions—under Romney’s stewardship—sent thousands to the unemployment lines. That’s the real Romney: a high-flying, anything-to-win big business guy. No doubt Bain and its employees are counting on a Romney regulatory climate much more lax than Obama’s to help them with future mergers and other unemployment-boosting operations. What does appall me is the swiftness with which these super PACs have proliferated. And, as the Romney assault on Gingrich has shown, how effectively their money can be used to shape a state race. The Citizens United decision was a blow to democracy, making it possible for rich stealth operations to move into the presidential race in its opening days. Expect the super PACs to get just as involved in other presidential primary races and in the general election, as well as in Senate and House races. If you don’t like it, you should join demonstrations on Jan. 21, the second anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, when Public Citizen and other groups are uniting in support of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ proposed constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. NBC’s Isikoff said the super PACs provide “a vivid example of how secret campaign cash is being funneled in ever more circuitous ways into the political system.” Iowa, with the nation’s first presidential contest, likes to think of itself as a trailblazer in the nominating process. In this election, it is a trailblazer in corrupt politics. Wasn’t that (i.e. Business Insider) the same organisation that advised trading on the Zimbabwan stock exchange because ‘it showed the greatest growth of all African countries’, carefully omitting the fact that the country was sliding into hyperinflation and that the 1000pct growth was in fact entirely due to inflation…

One of the greatest challenges of American Democracy (what we have left of it) is money in politics. The manipulation of voters by a barrage of slick, false and otherwise misleading advertising has taken its toll on American life and free speech. We need to exert pressure on corporations by electing representatives responding to thinking people. That the critical thinking and actions of people can be so dominated by corporate finacial influence is the most evil phenonemnon of our time. We need a new skepticism along with positive actions e.g. boycotts, protests, education etc. to build a new civic and economic system.

I urge all independent progressive candidates to
contact me ASAP. A coalition of independent and 3rd
Party candidates is growing quickly to take on the
Washington’s 2-Party duopoly. Thanks to the
incumbents, our economy has been trashed by foreign
trade agreements we never had a chance to vote on,
our manufacturing base has been disseminated and our
hopes and aspirations have been dashed.
Independent Senator, Bernie Sanders of Vermont is
working to add an amendment that would effectively
repeal the results of the Citizens United verdict.
This amendment is vital in helping to restore our
democracy.
I side with Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio,
regarding his desire to repeal NAFTA, GATT and CAFTA
and terminate our membership in the WTO. These
actions are vital to restoring good jobs in America.
With very few exceptions, it’s time to give Congress
a high colonic and flush them all out. November 6,
2012 will mark the day when we take back OUR COUNTRY!
The year 2012 will not be ‘the end of days’, but
rather the end of us being in a ‘daze’!
If you love this country, as I do, and are inspired
to make a difference, then run for office as an
independent. ANY OFFICE! Your actions really do
matter. Together we can and must change how business
gets done in our nation’s Capitol.
Once again, please contact me and remember…United

Got to the following statement by Mr. BB…“it will be difficult to make

This basically reads like “A BILL BOYARSKY ATTACK”. If Ron Paul is
WILD what does stating ...God will curse the USA if it mistreats Israel
[Michelle B]...or Social Security is a Ponzi scheme [Rick P]...or abortion is
ruining social security [Rick S]...or we need to put kids to work in
schools [Newt G]...or “I will hire homosexuals rather than Muslims in
my administration” [Herman C]....or Mitt promising to travel to Israel as
his first trip to a foreign country.

Since everyone now agrees that both the Reps and Dems are equally evil (took you long enough - no more lesser of two evils arguments please) why didn’t you vote for Ralph Nader when you had the chance - it was the first real stab at a third party from a person who has only been honest and achieved great services for the average American in car safety, environment, civil rights etc. - hardly anybody showed any interest - America could have been much more of a social democracy - like Canada, Australia, the Scandinavian countries etc. whose people are doing much better (and they’re still capitalist!)than Americans.

I sincerely believe that all voters should vote out every incumbent. But they won’t. There is always a certain percentage who will vote for their party.
That is why I for a long time now have advocated choosing a Party and swearing off voting for any of their Candidates ever again. I have always suggested the Republican Party to shun simply because they advocate making the Rich richer. Their claim is that if we make the rich richer, the rich will be able to create more jobs for Americans. That promise is fools gold. And it will ever be. They take that money and build new factories in low wage countries then ship those jobs overseas.
The Democrats are in on this too, but to a lesser degree. If we get rid of the Republican Party we will only have the Democrats to worry about while we build a viable Third Party System.
Shunning the Republicans will require only that those who want real change should vote for the Democrat Party. The party loyalists will still vote for their Party, but those who vote for change will be in the majority. The Democrats will only have one 4 year term. And they will know what happens if they renege on positive change. We will have our Third Party positioned to muscle them out also.
I get a lot of nasty remarks every time I suggest this, but it is the one thing that will work if enough people want it to.

Voters need to learn not to vote for candidates
backed by big money. If you see lots of tv ads
backing a candidate, DO NOT VOTE FOR THAT CANDIDATE.
That candidate is bought and will only serve the
people who supplied the money that paid for the TV
ads.
More than anything, we need elected officials who
Report thiswill serve the country instead of their contributors.
Thus ... do not vote for any candidate backed by lots
of money. The broker the candidate, the better the
chance they are honest. And if the people with money
appear to hate the broke candidate, that’s an even
better sign that you should be supporting the broke
candidate

Yes there is only one sure outcome in all our corrupt elections: Either the Democrats or the Republicans will win, and the other will finish second, and the non-elite, those not of the 1%, will certainly come in last
The Folie a deux instead of being limited, is shared by nearly all the voters. The rank and file never learn. They vote their Party First and thus find and exercise the only way to throw their vote away.

Once more direct evidence that this country is ruined, maybe beyond repair, and that
our political parties function as a kind of shared mental disorder.
There is in fact a mental disorder called a Folie a deux. Our political partis are suffering
from it. In this case the Republican party is the primary, while the Democratic party is
the secondary.
The Republican party transmits delusions to the Democratic party, who reacts as if those
delusions are real. But it could be just as easily the other way around.
They are the same. And they have turned this country into a bankrupt, criminal
enterprise, where the rule of law no longer applies to them.
Where destructive economic delusions still hold sway despite the wrecking of the
financial system.
It doesn’t matter at this point who wins, because there won’t be an America to govern,
