A ‘Where’s Waldo?’ Presidency

By Ruth Marcus

For a man who won office talking about change we can believe in, Barack Obama can be a strangely passive president. There are a startling number of occasions in which the president has been missing in action—unwilling, reluctant or late to weigh in on the issue of the moment. He is, too often, more reactive than inspirational, more cautious than forceful.

Each of these instances can be explained on its own terms, as matters of legislative strategy, geopolitical calculation or political prudence.

He didn’t want to get mired in legislative details during the health care debate for fear of repeating the Clinton administration’s prescriptive, take-ours-or-leave-it approach. He doesn’t want to go first on proposing entitlement reform because history teaches that this is not the best route to a deal. He didn’t want to say anything too tough about Libya for fear of endangering Americans trapped there. He didn’t want to weigh in on the labor battle in Wisconsin because, well, it’s a swing state.

Yet the dots connect to form an unsettling portrait of a “Where’s Waldo?” presidency: You frequently have to squint to find the White House amid the larger landscape.

This tough assessment from someone who generally shares the president’s ideological perspective may be hard to square with the conservative portrait of Obama as the rapacious perpetrator of a big-government agenda. If the president is being simultaneously accused of overreaching ambition and gutless fight-ducking, maybe he’s doing something right.

Maybe—or else Obama has at times managed to do both simultaneously. On health care, for instance, he took on a big fight without being able to articulate a clear message or being willing to set out any but the broadest policy prescriptions. Lawmakers, not to mention the public, were left guessing about what, exactly, the administration wanted to see in the measure and where it would draw red lines.

That was not an isolated case. Where, for example, is the president on the verge of a potential government shutdown—if not this week, then a few weeks from now?

Aside from a short statement from the Office of Management and Budget threatening a presidential veto of the House version of the funding measure, the White House—much to the frustration of some congressional Democrats—has been unclear in public and private about what cuts would and would not be acceptable.

By contrast, a few weeks before the shutdown in 1995, Clinton administration aides had dispatched Cabinet members and other high-ranking officials to spread the message that cuts in education, health care and housing would harm families and children. Obama seems more the passive bystander to negotiations between the House and Senate than the chief executive leading his party.

Obama performs best on a stage that permits the grandest sweep. He rises to the big occasion, from his inspiring introduction to the public in his 2004 Democratic convention speech to his healing words in the aftermath of the Tucson shootings.

The president has faltered, though, when called on to translate that rhetoric to more granular levels of specificity: What change, exactly, does he want people to believe in? How, even more exactly, does he propose to get there? “Winning the future” doesn’t quite do it.

My biggest beef is with the president’s slipperiness on fiscal matters. Obama has said he agrees with some of his fiscal commission’s recommendations and disagrees with others. Which ones does he disagree with? I asked this question the other day to Austan Goolsbee, the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.

Here’s what I got: “The view espoused by some of the ... commission that we ought to do Social Security 100 percent off of benefit cuts for sure he doesn’t agree with.” But of course, the plan that 11 of the commission members endorsed did nothing of the sort.

I was unfair to Goolsbee because I asked him a question he didn’t have the leeway to answer. You can’t blame the aide for ducking when the boss fudges.

Where’s Obama? No matter how hard you look, sometimes he’s impossible to find.

The continued monarchicalism around here is depressing.  Electing this individual or that to the presidency is not going to change much of anything.  Haven’t we just observed that?  Several times over if we go back 30 or 40 years.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting
it to come out different”

Attributed to many people, Einstein for one, the above definition fits people
who keep voting for Democrats, in particular, ones known to be war criminals,
i.e amoral.

Things, in fact, come out worse, because the frenemy (Obama) is a substitute
for the real solution (Nader).  The results are inimical to our continued
existence as a civilized society, much less an inhabitable world, and they are
becoming irreversible.

Why this has to explained to supposedly intelligent people indicates that there
is a sickness in our society.  It is serious to the extent that it is a terminal
illness for our society, and probably the biosphere.

JD, seemingly caring and intelligent, is the precursor to the collaborator who
lives comfortably during fascist reigns of terror at the expense of those who
are fighters for dignity and freedom, who get turned in, tortured, put in
concentration camps and/or executed.

Use of sophistry to deny outrage is a telling symptom of complicity.

It is possible to learn from history, although not in the US.  The media and the
population (JD) are too ideologically compromised to be intellectually honest
regarding facts.

But I would recommend, for those still holding on and who need a bit of
encouragement, as I do,  the essay which has found still fertile ground in
France, by a 93 year old freedom fighter (and much more, his bio is incredible)
who sees clearly, still, what needs to be done.  The link below is to an excerpt.

I disagree, not voting accomplishes nothing (you might as well be dead). A non
vote signifies, at best, that you don’t care. It doesn’t phase the powers that be in
the least. In fact, when progressive voters stay home in droves, and only the
regressive morons are voting in numbers, then the regressive candidates crow
“mandate” and continue their destruction. Apathy is not what we need right now.

Instead, vote FOR something. Vote for Nader, vote for Kucinich, write in Chomsky,
do something. In a democracy your vote is the expression of your political power.
If you don’t use it you lose it. It is not impossible for a majority of us to vote for
someone like Nader, but that will never happen if people stay at home and pout.

Stand up and fight!

Be careful here, JD: supporting Dems, to avoid Repubs, is a con game. I liken it to
professional wrestling, where an act is put on (good versus evil) for the
entertainment of the rubes. The important thing, to the promoters, is the take at
the gate. Who wins or loses each match doesn’t matter. Getting the masses
invested enough to care about the results of the pretend match, is the key to the
whole game.

A clue is observing how Nader is kept from even entering the ring. That means
that Nader is unacceptable to the powers that be (a ringing endorsement to my
ears). Only candidates that the promoters approve of are allowed in (see Barry O).

In almost all cases, now, I vote for third party candidates. There are instances
where I can understand someone backsliding, wanting to avoid a regressive
monster (like Meg Whitman for governor), but I’m pretty much past caring about
that little D versus R passion play. They both serve corporate masters.

Settling for the less of two evils is not getting it done.

Litl Bludot

Good post! In my opinion, nearly everything you wrote is truth. You echo what many others have said before you, including me.

I have written that Obama is a war criminal. I have written that Bradley Manning is being tortured. I have written about the many atrocities perpetrated by the U.S. since the time of its inception.

Where we strongly disagree is in the best course of action to take in order to end the current atrocities, and your contention that I am complicit with these atrocities merely because I prefer Democrats to Republicans, and believe that the best hope of ending the current insanity lies with the Democrats, and that demonizing Obama is counter productive to our shared goal of ending the current madness. (Incidentally, I also wrote that U.S policies Obama seemingly supports are demonic.)

Does Obama support the killing of innocents? Obama is commander in chief; according to the Nuremburg Tribunals, and decisions of the World Court, if policies Obama supports result in the killing of innocents, then he is complicit with those killings. All wars kill innocents, I am opposed to all wars, except those that result from defense against invasion, or wars to end genocide.  Justifying war is fraught with complexities, and justifications for war nearly always include false propaganda, nationalistic mania, irrational fear, etc. etc., but I’m not here to wax philosophical about war.

My concern is with ending these wars and occupations, and the best course of action to take to end the murder, mayhem, and horrific cruelty associated with them. I have stated my opinions about the best course of action to take to end these wars innumerable times, and such as you respond with anger, accusations, and raw emotion devoid of common sense. I have said that demonizing Obama accomplishes nothing except the demonization of Obama, and a return to power of the most demonic. Jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire is about as effective as self immolation is as a means of avoiding immolation. These wars won’t end until the American People say NO MORE!  Advocating a defeat of Obama and the Democrats accomplishes nothing, and says nothing except NO MORE OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS!

JJD’s “heavy sigh” , oh my, oh my.

” Litl Bludot was raised in a societal environment of amorality,,,”

But what country on this planet has such a society? A country with the values of
a Charlie Sheen, and Power Pimp Obama.  A society that invades other
countries in order to rape and pillage their resources.  Let’s see, a country that
committed genocide of its own indigenous peoples? A country that has
assassinated elected leaders of other countries who wanted to stop the pillage
of their natural environment?  It’s energy? A country that accepts the torture of
it’s own citizens, not to mention anyone in the world.  I could go on, but,
what’s the point. There’s only a tiny minority that has any virtue left, that will
have any outrage, let alone say anything about it.

Civil poster JD, with the sophistry characteristic of our spineless liberal class,
defending a president who is openly torturing Bradley Manning because he
dared to let the world see the disgusting truth about the blatant amorality of
our foreign policy. Not to mention a video that has a helicopter gunship
manned by blood thirsty American soldiers gunning down children, innocent
civilians, reporters, people just being humane in their US destroyed hell of a
country that used to be the cradle of civilization.  The US destroyed the cradle
of civilization.

Oh, but let’s not get outraged,  not the civil and humane JD.  Just give us a sigh.
Oh my. I bet it was heartfelt and sincere.

As they say in Las Vegas, Oh Well (Heavy sigh)!

Litl Bludot’s nihilistic hatred will, metaphorically speaking, drag us into the inner core of Dante’s Inferno.

Responding to Litl Bludot’s hateful accusations, I’ll say that we are all subject to racism and bigotry, regardless of our race, ethnicity, whatever… Some of us are aware of this reality, and are sensitive to this reality. Litl Bludot reminds me of Dr. Laura with his rationale. It’s sad that I have to defend myself against his hateful accusations, and in reality, there is no defense that will satisfy him and his ilk. My anti-racist credentials go back to my youth, remained, and was manifest throughout my entire life. I know this, my family knows this, and all those who know me well know this, but there will be no satisfying Litl Bludot, so I will not elaborate, or even try.

Litl Bludot is not able, or unwilling, to offer a rebuttal of my contentions, so he resorts to adhominem attack and accusation. What I perceive to be his most vile and unsupportable insults go beyond being “just short despicable,” to the clearly despicable. Such tactics are generally the tactics of people from the Right, but Litl Bludot is representative of the nihilistic attitudes so evident, here and elsewhere.

I know that this dispute between he and I will be perceived as a mere, and irrelevant, clash of egos, it would be easier for me to throw up my hands in disgust, and ignore him, but I can not in good conscience allow him to spew his nihilistic bile in a public forum without opposition.

I suspect, but have no hard evidence, that Litl Bludot was raised in a societal environment of amorality, which would be dictated by his age and generation. Elaborating on my disgust with current societal mores, I’ll comment that Charlie Sheen’s behavior, which I find reprehensible, is less indicative of a society’s decadence, than the very popular television show in which he stars, but I don’t suppose many here will care what I think, and that many here will be angered and annoyed by my obtrusive moralizing, but I could care less, and I would tell them what to do about it if they don’t like it, if it weren’t for my desire to maintain a modicum of decorum.

I digress…

OBAMA IS A POWER PIMP.  This is a fact.  It’s a great, concise term. Pimps come in all colors.  The first time I heard the term was in a rap song—written by guys who know what Obama is and does.

Those like JD who think that only colored people become pimps are the racists.  They may not realize that they are, of course, just like they may not realize that continued support of Obama, mush less another vote for him, is a vote for torture, war crimes,  fraud, corruption, etc. and thus they become, (JD) the ones who are guilty of the crimes.  Just like the German citizens who KNEW what Hitler was and voted for him.

As for the comparison, think about sociocide—the complete obliteration of a culture, which is what Power Pimp Obama is doing to the Afghans and the Iraqis, and us, come to think of it.  Then, we come to his partnership with corporations that are destroying the planet.  Oh yes, he’s definitely comparable to Hitler, and worse, when you look at the scale, the global biocidal consequences.

You write paragraphs of meandering rationalizations for doing inconceivable harm, JD.  IMO,  self-righteous mealy mouthed liberals who write propaganda rationalizing despicable leaders are worse than the intellectually honest, rabid fascist, war god in the sky wackos.

This post by you, in my opinion, shows more intelligence and indicates some knowledge regarding the fall of the Weimar Republic and the rise of the Third Reich in Germany, and is, for the most part, free from the extremes of rhetoric you have previously displayed. I do object to your equating me with the “Good Germans” who allowed the Nazis to come to power, I disagree with your equating Obama with Hitler, and I believe that your persistent use of the racially tinged description of Obama as being a “power pimp” is, frankly, just short of despicable, and does not portray you in good light.

It is my belief that our nation’s rightward shift into fascism began a half century ago, and could be charted on a graph by an ascending line with peaks and valleys. I believe that the 2008 elections would be charted on that graph as a downward turn, and the 2010 mid-term elections would indicate an upward turn on that graph. I believe that this belief of mine would be perceived as extreme by the vast majority of the U.S. electorate, which, I believe, is the crux of the problem[s] that confront us. Through the height of the Tea Party craziness, I proffered my opinion that the Tea Partiers were the vanguard of neo-fascist acceleration in our nation’s politics. I believe that the mid-term elections and the resulting political initiatives have substantiated my previous contention.

Historians have contended that economic difficulties and political chaos were prime factors contributing to the crumbling of the Weimar Republic, and the rise of the Third Reich. Chomsky, in his wisdom, has warned us about the “Collapse of the middle” equating it to what occurred in Germany in the latter part of the 30’s. I will point out that Chomsky and other progressives, even many of those perceived as being radical, though cogently very critical of Obama and the Democrats; come down on the side of Obama and the Democrats, when push comes to shove.

Rational, humane people, who possess knowledge and intelligence, are aware of the very real horrors associated with U.S. Foreign (and domestic) Policy, most evident beginning in the late forties, but also evident throughout our nation’s history. The magnitude of these horrors can not be ignored by any but the uninformed, or the callous and inhumane. I will point out that historically, and currently, those who are callous and inhumane, and have demonstrated this lack of humanity, have come from a right-wing political perspective, regardless of party or ideological association.

The latest atrocity; the killing of nine children by NATO forces only highlights the current inhumanity of U.S. Foreign Policy. The outrage, the demands for justice, and the hollow apologies, further highlight the insanity of U.S. Foreign Policy, and only the callous and inhumane will argue that this latest atrocity is a regrettable accident associated with a war of necessity.  These regrettable accidents have been continuous, will continue, are frequent, and seldom receive the attention that this latest atrocity has received. It is these atrocities, and the wrong headed, tragic, squandering of life and resources that should bear the brunt of our criticism in order to bring this inhumanity to an end.

Defending Obama in respect to these current realities would demonstrate a callous and inhumane attitude, but a preference for Obama and the Democrats over the viable alternative is an entirely different matter. It is my belief that effectively facilitating this alternative will be a regress, and not lead to any conceivable progress in ending this madness.

As an example of Left versus Right proclivities, I’ll point out that Democratic President Lyndon Johnson, who tragically, and wrong headedly, escalated the War in Vietnam, remorsefully, effectively resigned from his office because of the War in Vietnam. Brevity requires that I not relate what proceeded from that point in history, but the recorded telephone conversations Johnson had with members of Congress show his obvious anxiety and proclivities regarding Vietnam, while the actions and recorded conversations of his successor, revealed in the Watergate Tapes, clearly reveal historical and tautological right-wing proclivities. Obviously, that was then, and this is now, but the proclivities of Right versus Left are real and documented. Again, for the sake of brevity, I’ll avoid pointing out the dichotomy between Left and Right in terms of legislative initiatives, and proclivities, but that dichotomy, and demonstrable proclivities are obvious to the politically astute, and well informed.

Assigning political, or personal, blame for the current realties requires recognition of their origin. A rational analysis shows that we, the American People, share in the blame for current realities, and that we, the American People, will share in the blame for the continuation of these realities. I have continuously recommended coordinated national protest by the American People, in order to highlight the madness of current policies, and to bring these issues to the forefront of political debate, but short such actions, what are our alternatives?

I’ll suggest that cogent, and well argued criticisms of current policies, by any means possible, is our only means of combating the current self-destructive madness, and short of more tangible political action, our only resort,  but it is these policies that should bear the brunt of criticisms.

Although Obama is the commander and chief, demonizing him, and assigning sole responsibility to Obama is not rational. I believe that condemning Obama, and focusing on Obama, and not the policies, will be, and have been, counter productive to shared objectives, and have, in fact, contributed to the recent successes of the reactionary Right.

Finally, and having some experience here at truthdig, I am certain that my suggestions for what I believe is the most logical course of action, will be immediately rejected by some, and that my historical observations will be disputed, or ignored. I’m also aware that my suggestions will be deemed inadequate to many who post here at truthdig, who believe that condemnation of Obama will somehow provide a solution to our current dilemma. I believe these condemners to be short sighted, and that their condemnations will be counter productive, lead to: Political chaos, will be a detriment to any unified and constructive purpose, that their scapegoating of Obama is like spitting into the wind, and will have no other result than serving the interests of the most reactionary, and inhumane.

Oh yes, it is a kleptocracy.  The similarities to Germany prior to Hitler are apt.
That’s part of my argument.  Hitler came to power when the corporations
backed him.  Big industrial giants of Germany, were the most powerful in the
world at the time.  They were tired of the post WWI chaos and, like now, are
using disaster to take control of the financial system, and everything else.  Look
at power pimp Obama’s cast of “advisers” and you’ll see the same MO.  We’re
there, only we have a 21st century version, his act is much more sophisticated,
to fit the times, as is his appearance, his color, his education, etc.  That’s why
self described progressive like poster JD buys into it, and going back in time,
that’s what the German people did, closing their eyes to the actual deeds of the
monster, but loving his delivery.

The implications to our country, its institutions are dire, of course.  Americans
are losing their social fabric,  their becoming even more callous and vacuous,
hypocrites who can actually vote for a person whom they consider to be a
torturer and a war criminal and in the service of fraudulent banks and insurance
companies (JD again)

But the difference, the tremendous difference, is that the biosphere is on the
verge of collapsing, bringing the end to life on this planet.  That’s the difference
between Germany and the rise of the Nazis and fascism, and now.  We do not
have time to allow these parasites to be pandemic.  That’s why I do not choose
polite words with JD.  The poster is a compliant, 21st century version of the
good citizens who voted Hitler into power.  The planet doesn’t have time to be
diplomatic with intellects that find reasons to support monsters.

“To what end?” to the end that he will not be able to garner their support?

We (which includes Obama) already knew what the Repugs were capable of - yet he conceded and caved in and stood no firm ground. We are still in Afghanistan with no certain end in sight - and there are still ‘non-combat troops’ whatever the f**k that means, in Iraq.
Guantanamo is still operating. He has abandoned the cause of the working class, gay marriage and did almost nothing about Wall Street crimes (who obviously met his price).
Now there’s a brain for you.

JD,
“Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Look up the definition of insane, please.”

Insane, definition:

1.    Mentally deranged.
2.  Of or for insane persons.
3.  Utterly senseless.

You may be thinking of Einstein’s pop culture definition “Doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.”

“Ironically, the last paragraph in which you are extolling intelligence over
emotion is the dumbest of the post. It’s not difficult to explain why.
However, after reading your posts, I know that it’s difficult for you to understand this explanation.”

“I am Iron[ic] Man!
Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all
Or if he moves will he fall?

Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head
We’ll just pass him there
Why should we even care?

He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
When he travelled time
For the future of mankind

Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold

Now the time is here
For Iron[ic] Man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved

Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron[ic] Man lives again!

Duh…? I’m struggling to overcome my dumbness so I can understand your explanation.

“You belong to (one of my observations which you are not
capable of believing and will ascribed to irrationality) the majority of the
voting population of this sad country. You accept (but will deny
this acceptance) that lies are truth, that security is fear, that freedom is to be
not free, that intelligence is to do the wrong action-  voting for an
intellectual fraud who has proved himself to be
a corporate fascist, willing to kill, torture, and destroy the planet.  You say it could be worse. This is where you apply your version
of intelligence.”

“You, like Obama, are clever enough to realize this:  those illiterate,
proudly ignorant, uneducated, holy roller, god -in -the- sky, war mongering,
racists wing nuts are not capable of running the country.”

Me and Obama, we got it sussed!

“Here’s the kicker, the parasitoid, disaster capitalism, corporate fascists realize
this as well.  They may use these numbskull wing nuts as storm troopers to do
their dirty work,  but they are NOT going give them any power. i.e. to formulate
financial or military policy.  The religious, fascist, racist wackos (for example,
Palin lovers) are too honest in their beliefs. They fiercely believe what they espouse. For example,  if given the chance, they may put banksters in prison, stop corporate welfare, etc. maybe even cut the military budget, in addition to vaporizing what’s left of society. They will go nuclear, everywhere. Whereas the parasitoid disaster capitalists, the
ones who are now firmly in charge, i.e. Obama’s fellow vectors of biocide disaster, have
no honesty whatsoever, but only want to do predatory business as usual.  In other words, they have your form of intelligence.
If it’s any consolation, they are aware and proud of their amorality, whereas you strive to be be intellectually honest, and even humane.  Obama and his fellow creatures
really don’t give a shit, but pretend to, for your benefit.  This works with you, i.e
those who keep them in power.”

Boy! You said a mouthful! I’m too dumb to understand what in the hell your saying, but I’ll try.

The kicker [?] is that there is a grand conspiracy by corporate fascists, who are actively working, covertly, to assure Obama’s re-election. The numbskulls, doing the dirty work, are only pawns in the grand corporate conspiracy to get Obama re-elected. If you’re correct, you’ve got to hand it to them, these guys are evil genii. Forgive my dumbness, but what happens if the dirty workers get out of hand, and actually get a less corporate friendly Republican elected. Wouldn’t that put the kibosh on their conspiracy? Sorry, I’m trying to be open minded, and I’m doing my best to understand.

I appreciate your consoling me, given a choice between being insane and humane, I’ll take humane every time, but wait, are you saying I’m both, sort of a hybrid-ane. That’s discouraging, to say the least.

“”The deadly ideological parasites currently have their best player in position,
the slickest power pimp since Clinton, the chief frenemy of our planet, the color
neutralizing, correctly accented, intellectual rationalization for what is understood by your intellect as civilized, tolerable leadership. Like you,
they want this particular power pimp president, who can winsomely baritone worthy lies for your truth, your
vote, your intelligence.  He’s the best they have at the moment.  You’re words of deranged intelligence are living
proof.”

My dumbness is getting in the way again. Let me see if I can put it another way, using a sporting metaphor. Obama is like a high scorer for the parasites, a Jordanesque, playing the power forward position, dunking for the evil genii parasites. Is that close?

I hate to be critical, but I’d have an easier and more pleasant interaction with you if you would stop cramming your mouth so full, and spewing while you’re garbling. To be perfectly honest with you, I have an easier time understanding Obama’s “power pimp” presentation, and I find his resonance below middle C, much less abrasive than your high pitched, strident, spewing, cacophonous, dissonance.
The stakes are the highest: the survival of all life on this poor suffering planet.  But
why let that bother you?  Just rationalize intelligence into a rotten facsimile, and presto, you’re worldly, wise, and in sync with at least fifty per cent of your fellow Americans in this preeminently hypocritical, selfish, destructive society.  Doing this, you can be accepted in our polite society—play your tunes, laugh at jokes, castigate proud Nazis, and be accepted-  knowing how humane you are.

This is serious, Obama, me, the American people, and the evil genii, are complicit in the suffering of the planet and the extinguishing of all life on the planet. Correct? The proportions of your contention boggle my feeble mind. I’d better get with the program, what is the program?

You’ve just been shown reality JD. I doubt if you’ll be able to see it. But it

My feeble mind is bored with trying to fathom the many details of your reality. Let me see if I can get to the substance of your comments, there-bye getting an understanding of reality.

You want me to understand the definition of insane.

I’m dumb, and I need to understand your explanation. (Believe me, I’m trying)

I am Ironic.

I’m not capable of believing you, and will ascribed you to irrationality. (Like I said; I’m trying to be open minded.)

I, along with the rest of us dumb Americans, accept lies are truth, that security is fear, that freedom is to be
not free, that intelligence is to do the wrong action-

Obama is willing to destroy the world.

Nothing could be worse than Obama.

Sarah Palin and the Tea Partiers want to put the bankers in jail. This is the Tea Partiers first goal, and will occur sometime before they get around to vaporizing society. (Putting the bankers in jail sounds good, but I think they need to re-think the vaporizing society part.)

Not to worry, the evil genii will not allow the Tea Partiers to vaporize society. (Why should they, they’ve already got Obama willing to destroy the world.)

My intelligence is the equivalent of a parasitoid disaster capitalist, or is it the equivalent of a fellow vector of biocide disaster. (You’ve got me worried now. Maybe this fear security thing is worthy of some contemplation.)

Obama and his fellow creatures don’t give a shit about me. (Shucks! Nobody gives a shit about me, so much for my goal of becoming acceptable.)

Obama is a player, a power pimp, and a frenemy to the world. (I wonder if the world is as gullible as its people are.)

Playing tunes, telling jokes, and castigating proud Nazi’s is only a ruse to help me achieve my hopeless quest to become acceptable. (Screw everything:  I just want to be acceptable.)

Encapsulating your many posts, you’re advising me to vote for a loser, or a Republican, anyone but Obama.

Upon review, I must most humbly, with all intention of total groveling, and with much trepidation, suggest that, forgive me, you may, just may, have some misconceptions about me. Your full frontal attack of raw emotion, regarding my preference for Democrats over Republicans, is startling, frightening even. O.K.! OK! I’m not as smart as you, have mercy! I can’t stand anymore of this un-acceptance.

Hopefully more people will accept your fully illustrated variety of intelligence, and we will be able to defeat the evil genii.

Democrats have become Republican Lite. They are all beholden to the money. Until

Liti Bludot—You’re assuming the U.S. ruling class is actually functioning as such.  Some of my friends argue rather persuasively that it is not; that it has become a mere kleptocracy.  It is certain that the present political arrangements are not producing viable solutions to any of the country’s major problems, a rather ominous situation reminiscent of Germany in the 1920s.

Obama has too much in common with the Repugs to make them toe the line. That’s because he is an illusory political chameleon. The canard about ‘pragamatism’ can be used to justify everything from killing civilians (collateral damage) in wartime to torture. It’s ethical BS. Obama isn’t pragmatic - he is just a fraud - He talks a big talk but walks on both sides of the aisle. He betrayed the mostly young constituency that voted him in and they will NOT be around next time - that’s a no brainer. He is the main reason the Repugs gained the House. You don’t fight pitbulls by feeding them plums - they’ll take your hand along with it - you use a big stick - but Obama is stickless.

JD,

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Look up the definition of insane, please.

Ironically, the last paragraph in which you are extolling intelligence over
emotion is the dumbest of the post. It’s not difficult to explain why.
However, after reading your posts,  I know that its difficult for you to understand this explanation.

You belong to (one of my observations which you are not
capable of believing and will ascribed to irrationality) the majority of the
voting population of this sad country.
This is where you apply your version
of intelligence.

You, like Obama, are clever enough to realize this:  those illiterate,
proudly ignorant, uneducated, holy roller, god -in -the- sky, war mongering,
racists wing nuts are not capable of running the country.

Here’s the kicker, the parasitoid, disaster capitalism, corporate fascists realize
this as well.
This works with you, i.e
those who keep them in power.

The deadly ideological parasites currently have their best player in position,
the slickest power pimp since Clinton, the chief frenemy of our planet, the color
neutralizing, correctly accented, intellectual rationalization for what is understood by your intellect as civilized, tolerable leadership. Like you,

AMERICANS NEED TO PUT AWAY THEIR PETTY DIFFERENCES AND UNITE INTO A UNITED SOCIALIST PATRIOTIC FRONT FOR A WAR OF INDEPENDENCE AGAINST CAPITALISTS !!

Dear friends, i read something about cinema therapy, and the psychological, motivational effect of movies on people. Watch this very inspirational, motivational speech from the movie Independence Day with Will Smith and Bill Pullman.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUdB8gCMcXI&feature=player_embedded

This speech from the movie Independence Day is very inspirational and motivational for a divided USA, that needs to fight a common enemy. And that enemy is the 5% oligarchic ruling class, The Israeli Zionist Lobby, The Military Industrial Complex, and Wall Street Bankers.

It is time for all americans to put away their petty differences and to unite into a United Patriotic Front and to fight politically or even in a revolution against our common enemy which is the ruling capitalist elite, that are destroying us, and a threat to the world, with their imperialist dangerous wars. To declare our independence from the capitalist tyranny elites

Dear JDMystic: I know that this might sound crazy, too utopian and too irrational.  But the only solution I see for USA and other nations like USA with a real powerful military and police apparatus is The Superman.  I don’t mean the superhero of the movies. I mean a revolutionary caste of superior individuals, of men who are above regular men, not normal men, but super-men. Based on the theory and ideology of the German Philosopher Fredrich Nietzsche, and historical changes based on great men. “Great Man Theory”

Here is a link and a couple of paragraphs about The Superman

https://www.msu.edu/user/bradle45/nietzsche.htm

Go to this link to buy books from the philosopher of The Superman Fredrich Nietzsche to become a Superman and to save America from the capitalist system: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=stripbooks&field;-keywords=nietzsche

The idea of the superman in Nietzsche’s works is a crucial element as he uses it as a foundation from which to attempt to challenge the ingrained values of society. These values behind what is considered to be good and evil, he asserts, having been founded on the Christian faith serve only to hamper human potential and have no basis on our everyday experiences (486-487, The Portable Nietzsche by Viking Press). His aim is to show us that for society to be able to live up to its true potential we need a new system of values which is more suited to our needs. In rejecting the idea of a God who gives us values changeless and transcendent of the everyday world he gives us superman, a real individual who creates values which are firmly rooted in the everyday changing world. This is someone who, by trusting his own intuitive sense of what is good and evil, succeeds better than any other. It is argued that only by following his example can we hope to improve ourselves and our society. Is the necessity of overthrowing the existing established values justified in Nietzsche’s doctrine, and does he in fact prove that his alternatives are any better?

Mankind, in order to justify its existence, has always required some belief in a higher purpose in life. People are never satisfied with the notion that there is no meaning in anything they do or accomplish. Without such a belief, life becomes impossible to bear as the question asked by nihilism is continually before one, “why live at all?”

I just had an interesting exchange of ideas and reminiscences with someone I met while lugging one of my guitars to the pawn shop. We exchanged tunes and bragged about our musical backgrounds. He was of Turkish and Italian descent; he seemed moderately intelligent to me, but then I discovered he was a Nazi. I don’t mean a Republican, or a right-wing Fascist, I mean a Nazi. He began telling me about the poor down-trodden white man, and how Hitler was right. Of course I disagreed with him, and he told me not to be an idiot, I had to tell him there is a lot of idiocy going around, and then I moved on down the road. Yeah, there is a lot of idiocy going around.

Litl Bludot

I haven’t seen any of your comments here at truthdig, until just recently. Perhaps you’re not aware that I have written extensively about my abhorrence of war and U.S. Foreign Policy. I have written on several occasions that I believe Obama, is a misguided, well meaning, War Criminal. Saying such may be oxymoronic, but I believe it to be the truth. It’s my belief that Obama would like nothing more than to successfully end these wars and occupations, but I could be wrong, he might be the devil incarnate, or merely the anti-Christ.

As for my views on intelligence, thanks for the interest. I may not be the smartest boy in class, but I am able to recognize sarcasm that lacks any subtlety.

To the issue at hand; I won’t be sarcastic when saying that I think you are intelligent, but irrational. I also think Obama is intelligent, but irrationally misguided. I believe that Obama is playing the cards he was dealt, but that he lacks the near, or actual, suicidal courage necessary to be a true hero, but maybe I shouldn’t talk, I also lacked the near suicidal courage required to knock that Nazi, on his Nazi ass. Of course knocking that Nazi on his ass would not have accomplished anything, in the grand scheme of things.

Now, if I were President, or if you were President, I’m sure we would knock a lot of people on their asses, and that we’d be knocking people on their asses for as long as we remained in the Presidency, or until we died, whichever came first. I’m sure we would be having a real wang dang doodle of an ass kicking party going’ on. (Its fun to fantasize isn’t it!?) Obama, being President, I’m sure has given some thought to suicidal actions, not just concerning his personal or political welfare, but also for the welfare of the nation, and for the people of this nation.

If it were up to me, these wars and occupations would have ended yesterday, or earlier, but it’s not up to me. In reality, (political as well actual,) as commander in chief, Obama could end the wars and occupations all by himself, at any moment, couldn’t he? What the ramifications and consequences of such a unilateral action would be can only be speculated upon, but I suspect those ramifications and consequences would be severe.

Many seem to believe that voting for a third party would knock Obama on his ass, and end these wars and occupations, but would it? This is where the intelligence comes in. Knocking Obama on his ass, would only lead to a another more, suicidal and militaristic party taking power, unless you believe a more progressive Third Party candidate has any hope of achieving power with the support of the Main Stream Media, the American people, and all political, intelligence, and military institutions. That is where intelligence, rather than raw emotion, becomes important.

Go Sanders! (Fantasizing is fun isn’t it!?)

I must most humbly say that I.Q. tests have indicated that I am intelligent, but I don’t believe that the speed of synapses in the brain is a good indicator of intelligence. I believe that intelligence is derived from psychology, philosophy, mental health, knowledge, and experience.

While browsing the web recently, I came across data showing that people from the Right generally, specifically in the Red States, and per capita, rank below average in intelligence tests, education, and in the numbers of people attending institutions of higher learning. Of course, I believe that there are people on the Right who are intelligent, but I believe these intelligent people on the Right are very skillful at demagoguery, and not very good with actual facts. It’s my belief, not backed up by data, that people who comment here at truthdig are above average in intelligence, but I do believe that many people who comment here let their anger and frustration override their common sense and intellect.

Litl Bludot

It may interest you to know that I have been following “Democracy Now” (democracynow.org) since the mid-nineties. I have seen Amy speak in person, I have donated to “Democracy Now,” I visit her website regularly, pay special attention to her articles here at truthdig, and listen to re-runs of her program most every night on the radio. Long before I first heard Amy’s radio program, I was aware of the kinds of injustice and hypocrisy she highlights during her shows.”Democracy Now” is the largest alternative to Main Stream Media available on the air waves. Her program provides analysis, facts, and perspective not available in the Main Stream Media, though occasionally PBS does show documentaries that are enlightening, and contrary to the perspective provided by the Main Stream Media.

Before the Vietnam War, I was aware of the dangers of U.S. Foreign Policy, and the corruption of Capitalism. I have long been a student of history, and current events. Due to my own personal pursuit of knowledge and justice, and not because of the influence of family, friends, or educators, I have always been perceived as being radical in my beliefs. I am a long time supporter of unions, an early supporter of civil rights, and I have given no little sacrifice because of my beliefs, and because of protesting against War. I am proud, and have no regrets regarding my political activities.

In spite of the knowledge that our nation is becoming more and more fascist with each passing year, I have not yielded to frustration and anger. I advocate making the best available, viable, choices as a means of combating the menace of fascism, or an anarchical political chaos that could lead to any one of several catastrophic consequences.

I’ll have to end on a sour note. Aside from Nader, or a third party, not being a viable, or realistic, option to the ever encroaching reactionary Right, I’ll have to point out that as dissatisfied as I am with Obama and the Democrats, they provide the best choice available. If a miracle was to occur and Nader or some other third party candidate were to achieve political power, there is no guarantee or even evidence that a third party would be any more successful at combating the reactionary Right than Obama and the Democrats have been. That being said, I would vote for, and support, Sanders, Kucinich, or any other of a number of more progressive candidates, if only they had any real potential of achieving electoral victory and the necessary political and popular support necessary to govern in a more progressive manor.

I won’t delve into character assassination, but Nader has skeletons in his closet regarding union busting, and investments in the Stock Market. Many Nader followers have condemned Amy Goodman and Michael Moore because of their criticisms of Nader.

Given the Republicans will nominate some batsh*t crazy candidate like Palin or Huckabee for 2012.  The only way they can win is by Mr Obama alienating so many elements of his own party.  But perhaps this was the calculation all along.  Would it be fair to call the national Democrats of today the Black Sox Party?

Maybe big money decided that the disaster called Bush meant their favored Republicans would not win the 2008 election no matter what.  So a DLC-type Democrat was for them the next best choice.

Litl Bludot, thanks. Most of the groups that you mention I am aware of and I support some with money from a meager retirement (that is growing more meager).  You still feel the need to slip in the cutting remarks (“in case you don’t get it”) that make your message somewhat negative.  And while I believe that music is the distilled essence of all that is good in life, I’m reminded of Tom Lehrer’s Folk Song Army (“Ready, aim, sing!”) What we face is a humorless drive to conquer the common folk with corporatism that is impervious to music’s bullets, I fear (Imagine the Koch brothers singing Guantanamera…)  But thanks for the suggestions; I shall take them to heart.

2believe, I’m with you most of the way.  Kucinich may be damaged goods but if he were to seriously run I’d climb on board. Bernie Sanders would be my first choice of those two (and perhaps of all who are out there) and I’d like to believe that he could mount a campaign similar to one from the past; “Come clean for Bernie” may not have the cachet that it had for Gene McCarthy’s bid but we can hope, give, and work for that to occur.  Once more into the breach, my friends…

ANOTHER DAY IN THE JEWISH ZIONIST CAPITALIST EMPIRE OF EXPENSIVE GASOLINE ALMOST AT 4 DOLLARS PER GALLON, EXPENSIVE FOOD LIKE CHICKEN ALMOST AT 2 PER LB. AND EXPENSIVE BASIC GOODS AND SERVICES

another day in the jewish-zionist capitalist hell of expensive utility bills, government taxing people to death to give those tax-dollars to Israhell, the bankers and the Military Industrial Complex.

More devaluation of the US dollar because the zionists of the Federal Reserve are printing fake dollars, massive spending in the military and the imperialist zionist wars on behalf of Israhell.

And all these things that Democ-rats and Republic-rats are doing literally means more poverty within US borders. And the USA poor soldiers coming back home to roost in a sea of depression, poverty and wild-capitalism of all utility services like electricity, phone, internet, direct-tv, dish network, gasoline, food and all goods and services that american families buy being owned by the zionist private sector

American families should rebel against all these evil things being done by Democrats and Republicans and start to look toward a Socialist Workers Party, like Stewart Alexander candidate for the Socialist Party of USA in 2012. Here is a link about Stewart Alexander:

http://www.stewartalexandercares.com/

So I urge you all to support Stewart Alexander.  Support Stewart Alexander for socialist president of USA in 2012. All americans should support and vote for Stewart Alexander, the candidate of the Socialist Party of USA, running for president in 2012.  Stewart Alexander says he will seek the 2012 presidential nomination of the Socialist Party USA and will present socialist solutions to address the needs of the working class.

Another tip for US socialist workers: USA workers should hate business owners, and not have any bonds with anybody who own businesses, coz workers and business owners are not compatible at all, emotionally and economically

I more or less agree with Barbara Ehrenreich, who suggested in a recent essay that Mr. O is not the problem and we focus on things beside the presidency.  No, he’s not the solution, either; he’s the same cautious, conservative, established-order type he was before he was elected.  He’s going to go with the flow—carefully.

In short, forget Obama.

People seriously need to emerge from the conceptual prison of thinking that the president or some other monarch or great leader is going to change everything.

Mind holds all things in form is one of the basic spiritual principles. What is called the left does not currently have a collective mind with a focused will to manifest a leader with the backbone to stand up for the rights of the people. The left also ignores all signs that the most powerful voice for the people - the World Teacher Maitreya - is in a physical body and is an advocate for much that they believe in.  So lukewarm coherence creates a lukewarm president.  When we are ready for the strong, clear, inspiring stuff, it is there.

“Man is an emerging God and thus requires the formation of modes of living which will allow this God to flourish. How can you be content with the modes within which you now live: when millions starve and die in squalor; when the rich parade their wealth before the poor; when each man is his neighbour’s enemy; when no man trusts his brother? For how long must you live thus, My friends? For how long can you support this degradation?
My plan and My duty is to reveal to you a new way, a way forward which will permit the divine in man to shine forth. Thus do I speak gravely, My friends and brothers. Hearken well to My words. Man must change or die: there is no other course. When you see this you will gladly take up My Cause, and show that for man exists a future bathed in Light.
My Teaching is simple: Justice, Sharing and Love are divine aspects. To manifest his divinity, man must embrace these three.”
- Messages from Maitreya the Christ

Alright.  The first step is to get real info.

This is by no means a complete list, but what comes to mind at this time.

Support those who risk their lives getting you the info. i.e. give money to get
help for Bradley Manning, who exposed war crimes, and has help the rest of the
world revolt against the cruel US crony dictator regimes.  He is being tortured by Obama, made an example of,,,, in case you don’t get it.  Google it (Gi).

Support wikileaks, as above, Gi.

support Demcracy Now, Counterpunch, ProPublica, Common Dreams, Free
Speech Radio and TV, Pacifica Radio, Grit TV (Laura Flanders), Gi

Boycott all corporate entities, ignore all “news” from them (it’s safer not to let any info. from them into your realm-commercials, songs, images, etc.  nada from them) do not buy or do business with them.  Do not eat poison laced, gmo carcinogenic
garbage, eat local, organic food. Do not buy pharma drugs, grow local herbs,,,,,  Withdraw all money, investments from non
local banks, deal only with local, small, neighborhood credit unions, establish a
local currency, barter, do not pay taxes for war.

Make your own music, sing and play with local musicians, write songs and lyrics that tell the truth.

establish your own bioregion and defend it against all forms of degradation.

witness all demonstrations, video all authoritarian torture and brutality that is
happening here whenever there is peaceful demonstrators, we get herded like cows, deafened loud blasts from sound guns, pepper
sprayed, tased, beat, crushed with knees in the chest, brutally forced into muscle
tearing contorted positions, and put in bindings of thin plastic that tears the skin, muscles, and cuts off circulation, causing permanent nerve and tissue damage, this is never reported by corporate media here,,,,  protect your cameras, videos, phones, they will be confiscated by these sadistic
thugs now posing as law enforcement and extolled as “heroes”.  Oh yes, they film us, spy on us, raid our houses, just like where?????

Above all, be able to recognize frenemies, like Obama.  They are far worse than
the obvious fascist, war god in the sky stone age religio racist numbskulls.
Sophisticated frenemies are extremely infectious, lethal vectors of the parasitic corporate state
that is destroying our country and planet, it is disaster capitalism in its final
stages of sociocide and biocide.

There is no one person to stop it, we have to do it together.  Support those who
are working bravely against tremendous odds to get you the truth.  Stop supporting frenemies.

Someone below got their crayolas out and scribbled this hokum:

“...Hateful demagogues like Litl Bludot seem oblivious to the very real fact that their demagoguery serves the interests of a much greater evil than Obama. Personally, I would much rather be a hack for Obama and the Democrats, than a facilitator of those who truly possess a fascist mentality…”

More: “Litl Bludot’s criticism is dangerous and stupid, and counter productive to the goals he advocates”

Well Sam Adams called, and he said he was pissed off and he wanted to respond but since he’s DEAD, I volunteered:

Here is what Sam Adams says to lickspittle like that:

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”

Were I to attempt a response, it would not be so civil.

Like one of the Sane posters said, believe not what Obombem says, watch what he does. The man is not to be trusted but by fools and sycophants.

Oh and Ruthie?

When the Washington comPost Junkyard Dogs begin to turn it’s time for Zero to say Ruh Roh.

“He doesn’t want to go first on proposing entitlement reform”

Social Security and Medicare are NOT “entitlements.” They are insurance.
“Entitlement” is the right-wing term designed to lead people to hate two
of the most effective and popular programs in the country.

Every time we use the word “entitlement” we argue the case for the other
side.

@dso4cw2md I too am looking for a realistic alternate candidate for Obama, not named Ralph Nader, with a realistic chance of challenging the status quo.  I like Representative Dennis Kucinich, D, Ohio, and Senator Bernie Sanders, I, Vermont.  I don’t think we need to start out with a Third Party.  Let these two get into debates with the president first.  (Bernie may need to change from Independent to Democrat first, but he has always caucused with then anyway.)  The third-party move, if necessary, would come after the Democratic Convention—but we also might have won a significant move to the Left by then by staying within the process.  It’s better than what the bomb-throwers have in mind.

He’s nothing more than a smiling corporatist who gives a good speech—not all
that difficult after the stumbling dry-drunk illiterate who inhabited the office
before him. I call Obama President Pattycake—always ready with the
marshmallows and the “bipartisan” hymnal. Hopey changey, indeed. We need a
true liberal/progressive at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

That’s a lie.  Obama continued to torture and did not close black sites.

“Obama attempted to close Gitmo, but was met with obstruction from the U.S. Congress.”

Bullshit.  Obama doesn’t need any permission from Congress to start obeying the law.

“Anyone curious as to Obama’s actual views on Habeas Corpus should read Obama’s “Floor Speech on Habeas Corpus” he was very visible during that debate.”

Anyone who wants to know Obama’s views on anything should look at what he does—usually the exact opposite of what he says.

Why do Pwogies put up with being fed shit all day long?  This toxic crap will rot your brains.  You are having right wing lies stove-piped right into your head every day.

Enough of it!

if these so-called progressives feed you right wing lies call them out on it.  It was obvious to me and many others that Obama was a right winger before he as elected.  But if you are still pretending he’s a liberal two years later, that’s not a mistake : that’s propaganda.

He hasn’t been “missing in action”—he’s been hard at work fighting for the super rich.  He’s a far right winger.  it’s not exactly complicated.  The rich are at war with the rest of the country, just as they always have been.

Obama has always attacked the left.  He was made president because he was better at attacking the American people than McCain.

Litl Bluedot, you sound pretty darn frustrated. Welcome to the club. But can your frustration lead to something more than aggression toward those who might be searching for a realistic answer? Nader had as much chance of being elected as do you. Democracy Now is hardly the source of all truth in this matter, but I’ll grant that it is a good, albeit one-sided, source of information. Do you see any third party arising, any candidate who might have a realistic chance of challenging the status quo and the present mirror image which our party system presents? Rather than shout names at potential allies, I’d appreciate some realistic ideas from you, as you obviously have strong feelings. Let there be some light to accompany your heat.

you had Nader, he told you the truth, i.e. that Obama was brand, a corporate
shill, and what did progressives do,,,, they spit on him.. A guy that has devoted
his life to keeping us safe for the corporate thugs, was vilified instead of
elected, why? An insane, self defeating mantra about having no choice.  There
wasn’t a gun to your head not to vote for him, was there?  Could you still pick
up a spoon and fork to eat? Was there a choice in that?  I mean how impaired
do millions of people have to be to believe that they have no choice but to vote
for someone who is obviously a brand, bought and paid for by a Chicago PR
firm, banksters, mass murdering health “insurance” companies, oil corps
(golfing with BP’s CEO), drug companies (went back on his “promise” to
negotiate prices for medicare drugs), torturer, war criminal, benefactor for war
profiteers,,,,, it’s all out there people.  But you believe you have no choice,,,,,,
you deserve to lose your homes and everything else of value to Obama’s crooks and swindlers, have a third world infrastructure, no
healthcare, miserable death in old age, stone age education, have your every word monitored by an all pervasive corporate fascist state, have all your taxes go to the military, banksters, drug and oil corporations, be searched at random, body searched and scanned at airports, and soon bus and train stations, have no choice mindless corporate TV and radio, internet
, and be despised world wide as a country of torturers,
selfish, mindless, ignorant, spineless, polluting, callous hypocrites.

You ask me if you have a choice,,, If I told you the choice, would you be able to understand it? Would you have the intellect not to watch, listen to, or read corporate media?  That includes PBS, NPR, both are now fake alternatives.
The answer is to support real information, go to Democracy Now, (I’d give you the link, but Truthdig would probably delete my post, if you don’t have the initiative to google it, then you’re a lost mind anyway) start there, the people who know the problems and solutions will be aired, go to the archives there, find Naomi Klein, Chomsky, Nader, Prim, Matt Taibbi just was interviewed on the SEC and FED aiding and abetting the banksters to get away with fraud, lots of great people, you’ll see who to support, with money and time. You’ll learn who to trust.  Take yourself out of the parasitic corporate infection and you’ll start to see choices.

Litl Bludot’s hateful diatribe against Obama reveals him to be just another uninformed, simple minded, hateful, demagogue. I’m curious as to why Litl Bludot enclosed the pejorative “power pimp” in quotation marks and not the pejoratives of Obamazombies and Obummer. It appears to me that his sore thumb is sticking out.

Somehow, the reality that one of Obama’s first acts in office was to close the Bush Administration’s CIA dark prison cites, and to make the Bush Administrations torture policies unlawful has escaped him. Obama attempted to close Gitmo, but was met with obstruction from the U.S. Congress.

Anyone curious as to Obama’s actual views on Habeas Corpus should read Obama’s “Floor Speech on Habeas Corpus” he was very visible during that debate.

•  obamaspeeches.com/091-Floor-Statement-on-the-Habeas-Corpus-Amendment-Obama-Speech.htm

Obama is far from perfect, but political realities are a part of politics, and perhaps the best criticism of Obama comes from AlterNet’s Liliana Segura when she wrote, “Barack Obama has pushed for restoring habeas corpus and closing Gitmo, but some of his positions on terrorism and civil liberties are vague.”

Hateful demagogues like Litl Bludot seem oblivious to the very real fact that their demagoguery serves the interests of a much greater evil than Obama. Personally, I would much rather be a hack for Obama and the Democrats, than a facilitator of those who truly possess a fascist mentality.

When spokesmen from the Right falsely claim that the American People want this or the American what that, they are revealed to be the real “Frenemies.”

Litl Bludot’s criticism is dangerous and stupid, and counter productive to the goals he advocates. It is Obama and the Democrats who propose Climate Legislation and it is the Corporatist Republican Sycophants in Congress who obstruct that legislation.

Although I agree with Ruth Marcus’ criticism of Obama, I suspect that this latest effort from Ruth Marcus, is an effort to, “Go along, in order to get along.” Criticisms of Obama are legitimate, but wouldn’t criticisms of the greater evil be more constructive in respect to avoiding future and current injustices, calamities, and catastrophes.

If an establishment shill like Ruth Marcus is complaining about Mr. O, the ruling class must be pretty disturbed about the situation.  And the natives are getting restless, as witness Wisconsin.

If he does start stepping out, I think it’s going to be in a direction most of the readers of Truthdig are not going to like.

I hate to admit it but it is time for a true third party.  There is no one among the multitude of Republican “candidates” for whom I could remotely cast a vote, but Mr Obama offers us only “Yes we can but no I won’t” as his modus operandus.  Is there a viable third option?  Someone around whom progressives could coalesce?  God, I hate this “lesser of two evils” as the image of democratic choice!

Obama is a frenemy.  His admin. is torturing heroes (i.e.Manning ), busting
whistle blowers, rewarding war profiteering, letting banksters defraud the
country with impunity and then telling us we have to pay for it.  Most pre
revolutionary (we go back more than 200 years now) he claims he can kill
anyone of us at anytime, anywhere; spy on any of us any way he wants, shut down the internet at any time,
torture us in black holes or military brigs , disappear us without habeas corpus; all the while helping his
corporate allies, his real friends, rape and pillage at will—-till the end of our
biopshere, which is on the horizon.

Just wondering when people are going to wakeup to these facts.  I’ve read
various terms: Obamazombies, Obummer, “power pimp”, but none of them are
as accurate as “frenemy”(new in the OED, look it up). The guy, slick and smooth
as they come, still seems to have journalists fooled into thinking he actually will
do the right thing given information and pressure from us good people.  NO, he
won’t.  He is an intellectual fraud, a virulently infectious parasitoid vector for
disaster capitalism, and lethal to all that’s left of civilzation.  He’s not an
alternative to fascism.  He’s the fake althernative, a frenemy.  WAKE UP

This assessment of President Obama is spot on.  The countless people who worked so tirelessly, who made great sacrifices, who grew tired of thirty years of savage class warfare, who love and respect America, who wanted to see even more of the American dream within their grasp, perhaps appreciate the observations by Ruth Marcus best of all.  Those efforts were not made on behalf of a candidate who gave even the faintest foreshadowing that, once elected, would allow his administration to become, well, this.  Barack, you let us down.  It’s time to fully accept the unabated ascendancy of the upper class, and the limitations on the American dream concomitant to living in a plutocracy.  It’s time to bring the tax rates on upper income to zero, and cut spending accordingly.  For the greater good.  Resistance is futile.  Plutocratic forces will always triumph, no matter how determined democratic forces might fancy themselves.

Lest someone should labor under the illusion that
O.‘s lectern palaver is ever forceful, consider
his basic stance of re-capitulating on health care:

The President to the Republicans:
“Well, we built a shambles, and now we need to fix it up,
we need to assemble the best ideas from all quarters,
cover all bets, and deal responsibly and carefully and reflectively,
and we need to be judiciously and circumspectly forceful.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting or cajoling,
I’m making nice , I’m accommodating, I’m leading from the muddle,
I mean middle. If we were starting from scratch, I would be
for Medicare For All which is a form of universal, comprehensive,
single payer health care. But we are not starting from scratch,
we are starting from under the boot of a Republican ultimatum.
So then, in a restrained, responsible, yet forceful way:
pretty please, with sugar on top!”
