Eugene, your writing and reporting is great.  but let me clear one thing up.  Recipients of “entitlement” programs are in fact entitled.  Veterans, social security recipients are legally entitled.  Just that simple, and has NOTHING to do with our emotions.  Except that we get hot when people talk llike they’re doing us a favor.  It was PART OF THE DEAL, not some sop.

Mr. Robinson may be right about this next Congress.  It will be interesting to see how the GOP leadership will handle the ignorant new members who apparently have very little clue about how government actually works or economics or federal fiscal limits.  I do not think Boehner has the ability to control the Tea party faction, and the actions of the GOP in abandoning Murkowski in Alaska was not lost on the other moderates who are voting against party lines.

But here is an interesting thought:  what happens to them in 2012 if they cannot get a single thing done in two years?  They hamstrung the Dems for two years, forcing bad policy creation that effectively gave away American needs for mainstream Americans in favor of the wealthy, and now in order to appease their contributors, they will have to continue this approach to policy making. The House has to get every bill past the Senate, which may not be as easy to do as the GOP think, and then they have to get it signed and not vetoed. 

This President learned some valuable lessons this year, and I think you will see a change in the White House with a new economics adviser and a new Chief of Staff.  I would not be surprised to see some new Cabinet members either this year that are moderates, but lean slightly to the left.  President Obama let the DNC hang itself for two years (unfortunately we all hung with them)and now they are going to be more willing to fight for his policies rather than against them.  Yes, it is political gamesmanship, but it was a necessary evil, something not all together unfamiliar in this government.

Now they have to deliver to this new violent base which will be the ones most damaged by the actions of this party.  The GOP, led by racists Boehner and McConnell, have worked to return the GOP to power and they did so in a way that will leave them dealing with incompetents who will cripple them more than the Democrats.  This may be a hard two years, and worse for many of us who will be devastated by GOP policy-making, but it may be what the Democratic Party leadership and base need to get just as angry as the Tea Party and radical right.  It may not be the right way to do things, but the GOP may well have given us a gift in 2010 - a Congress so dangerous to the majority of Americans that finally the American people will wake up and see the danger to themselves and this country.

And if President Obama is watching:  it will also be a wake-up call to him that what killed Democrats in 2010 was the lack of voter turn-out.  If he wants to be an effective President now, he must ignore the DNC and take to the airwaves and the road, and once again connect with the People and become a force so strong in 2011, that Congress will negotiate with him - not the other way around - and the GOP will not retain control of this government along with their corporate interest after 2012.

The latest poll shows people (1) want insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions, (2) want insurance companies not to cancel insurance when people get sick, and (3) don’t want to be forced to buy insurance.

The reason people do not understand that you can’t get 1 and 2 without 3 is our effing media.  Aside from C-Span, none of the news shows bothered to explain how insurance works.  And unfortunately, most people are too stupid to care anyway.

The other big problem is deciding what is “wasteful government spending” which one wants to cut; and what are “vital government services” which no one wants cut.

As Ron Paul has discovered “wasteful earmarks” are those earmarks not going to the state of Kentucky. Those going to Kentucky are “good earmarks”.
