Time to Get to WorkPosted on Jan 20, 2009
So, let’s now heed the words of our new president and set aside childish things. Presumably that includes the $450 worth of designer Obama T-shirts that I got in return for a campaign contribution made two days before the election in a sudden panic that he yet might lose. That battle has been won, and the sight of the disgraced Dick Cheney being wheeled off the stage of history as Obama recommitted America to the vision of the Founders, who, “faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man,” was nothing short of thrilling. Tuesday was welcome theater, as profound as it gets, particularly in the unity of race demonstrated so visibly to ourselves as well as the rest of the world. In that sense the presidency of Barack Obama will always be marked as an enormous winner, even when things, as he predicted, at times go wrong. But today, as Obama has declared, begins a new era of responsibility and accountability, and it is time for this columnist to get back to work. My concern is with the nation’s two most serious flashpoints—the economic bailout and the war in Afghanistan—and on both the early actions of the Obama team have been far from reassuring. Instead of signaling a sharp break from the failures of the Bush administration in these two areas, the early indication from Obama is more of the same. “Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some,” he said. But why then has he backed a bailout program that rewards the greediest of bankers while ignoring struggling homeowners? “Accountability for the Troubled Asset Relief Program” is the title of the second report of the Congressional Oversight Panel (COP), which Congress created to monitor the disbursement of $700 billion in bailout funds. That report concludes: “The panel still does not know what the banks are doing with taxpayer money.” Advertisement Obamaniacs should take to their crackberries to demand that something be done for homeowners before the last dollar of TARP evaporates. As Obama said in his inauguration speech, “a nation cannot prosper long when it only favors the prosperous,” but that is what the bailout, which Treasury secretary nominee Timothy Geithner helped craft, has been all about. On the foreign policy front, similar vigilance is called for, particularly regarding the determination of the new administration to sink deeper into what surely is a quagmire in Afghanistan. Obama already has committed to a major increase in U.S. troops on the battle front, where our main role has been to prop up the enormously corrupt and ineffectual government in Kabul. The only justification for entering even more aggressively into the civil war in that country is the simplistic identification of the Taliban with the remnants of Osama bin Laden’s gang. The drawing of that link was never accurate: The Taliban is an outgrowth of an indigenous movement, originally stocked with CIA arms and cash, and even when bin Laden had the support of the Afghan group he was getting most of his money from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which along with Pakistan made up the nations that granted the Taliban diplomatic recognition. Why make the Taliban our permanent enemy while coddling the state players who sponsored it? In language that echoed the hysteria of the Bush-era neoconservatives, Obama stated on Tuesday, “Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred.” Nope, as Obama has acknowledged on other occasions, it’s far more complex than that. Yesterday’s enemy can be tomorrow’s ally, as demonstrated by the fact that our economic solvency is now in the hands of the Chinese Communist government that was once our most feared enemy. The good news is that we have a big-brain president. The question is: Will he use it? I will not deny that I shed some tears watching the inauguration. It was mostly wonderful, incredibly so, but now in the morning after, and as Obama requested, it’s responsibility that we should be looking for.

That’s an interesting question, troublesum. I’ll leave it to you to figure it out. There is no possible way those buildings were not demolished by explosive charges. It is much, much more likely that most of the American sheeple believe what the government tells them, no matter how preposterous, even against the evidence of their own eyes, than that bin Laden figured out how to violate the laws of Newtonian mechanics. Do visit ae911truth.org and educate yourself.

Obama’s first promise is being kept right on schedule:
From Google News:
President Barack Obama is expected to take a drastic step to break from the policies of the Bush administration Thursday when he will reportedly sign executive orders to close the detention camp at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. The camp, opened after the September 11th terrorist attacks to house suspected terrorists, will reportedly be closed along with a series of secret prisons run by the Central Intelligence Agency as Obama works to reverse some of the actions of the Bush administration.
Organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union have been pushing for the closure of the prison, which currently holds 245 suspected terrorists without trial, violating detainee rights. The closing of the prison could take up to a year.
The order for the closing of CIA secret prisons would end a practice that sparked severe criticism, as well as bring an end to harsh interrogation methods.
ACLU’s executive director Anthony Romero praised Obama’s order to halt military commissions by ordering prosecutions to seek a 4 month suspension.
“Within hours of taking office, President Obama took the important first step to close Guantánamo: halting the unconstitutional military commissions by ordering the prosecution to seek a 120-day suspension,” Romero said in a statement. “It’s the first step in what we hope will be a series of bold measures to free America from the civil liberties outrages and human rights abuses of the Bush era.”

IRT Moon Hoax… During the landings all radio traffic was analog. Ham radio operators made their own dish antennas (I have the pictures) and listened to the astronauts from lunar orbit. The time lag was measurable with even simple stopwatches. If you moved the dish spot off the moon you lost the signal. No way to fake that.

Sitting in Germany with all the tuesday-exitement its kind of sobering to read about some hopes of change who will be not fullfilled. But there is and hopefully will be a difference. In the White House there is now a president who at least can understand that the future politics towards Afghanistan has to be discussed with Nato partners. And the financial crisis with its origin in the USA can’t be solved without having a solution for those who were driven into debts by bankers. Its a shame: what terrorists never could, bankers can, bringing USA down.

All I can think to say here is that having a big brain is probably not enough. Clearly, Obama has that, along with good heart, good intention. Unlike Reagan (who I always thought complete fraud. Even Bush is not so complete a fraud), Obama seems genuine. Immensely likable, in the way an idealistic kid is likeable, complete with an air of innocence, which is not so bad a thing. DC and locales teem with the too-smart, or rather with those who think themselves that when they are no such thing, so much as cynics out only for themselves and their ilk. They are indeed detestable in their petty-minded contempt for those not of their class and as they only imagine themselves big-brained.
So petty-minded as to be pitiable. So long as we can afford to pity them, sunk as they tend to be in abject ideology such that no conspiracy is required. The fact of their small-mindedness is the principle argument against conspiracy. Like the cliquish to be found at any high-school, no thought required. Indeed, the less thoughtful the better, since all that really matters is egoistic attitude, invariably product of (willful often as not) profound ignorance.
But ours is a nation that holds ambition (usually blind) in esteem. A real “American value.”
Clearly, Obama is not of such petty mind, nor of blind attitude/ambition. Thoughtfulness is evident, as is decency, despite innocence also in evidence. He would be leader if such we need. I detect no agenda other than to be of some use. To more than fellow class members.
Obama reminds of Carter. (Not of Clinton as I previously surmised.) Carter appeared after Nixon/Ford, voted in for many of the same reasons Obama was voted in. After a period of exuberant crime, though nothing like on scale since 1980. “Roaring” 80s followed by oh-so-comfy 90s, during which time all fell asleep, when not out shopping.
Not since Kennedy has media fallen in love as now with Obama. (Same media that has always loathed Carter.) I think I can’t wait until media begins to loath Obama. Better for him, better for us. But not so easy for media to loath as was/is Carter.
Leaders really are a terrible idea. Beginning with concept. They make no sense, except perhaps as repositories into which followers might deposit blame, as necessary. All leaders are then pitiable creatures—not makers of history so much as victims of history. (Bush never could have waged war on Iraq without democratic support of majority, which he had at the outset. He’s become practically tragic figure, like Nixon became. Olbermann and now Maddow obscenely continue to pick over Bush’s presidential corpse like two vultures for whom enough meat is never enough meat. Both of them long since too late. Where at the time? Before? With Ritter, with McGovern, with others who knew? Nowhere man. Liberals! Eternally AFTER the fact!)
Obama is liberal, which will likely be his downfall. He might do great things, but will likely refrain from attempting too great things, contra big brain that I suspect does know better but which, in any case, is constrained by systemic circumstance. He’s darling man caught up in the gears of a relentless system that—given ideological constraint most particularly—is past capable of other than march on self-destruction. As before in the case of Imperial Rome. Obama might heed, say, Chalmers Johnson’s words re British Empire. But he fired Samantha Power who’s no Chalmers Johnson. Obama could choose to try to move toward something resembling semi-democracy, as opposed to empire that “will defeat you.” Which, for us as much as for them, would mean saying, among other (other) things, to Senator Feinstein, among others, and to AIPAC and to Israeli leadership, “Never again.” We and all they might then know a little bit of peace if still not economic justice, the realization of which will require a whole lot more than bailouts and asking all to volunteer, a la Bush.

I am not enamored of Obama in particular, especially his ready complicity in the Bailout swindle. Be that as it may, I must grudgingly admit that it will be a relief to know that he is shutting down Gitmo. I retired from a career of over 30 years in the mental health treatment field in 2/08, most of it in the clinical situation. The last eight years of it, with about 30% of the paranoid individuals expressing ideation that they were being either: under surviellance that was ordered by government, usually Guantanamo Bay personnel; or if inpatients or ER patients in acute psychosis actually already there and being held there against their wills (or being spirited off to there) by mental health professionals who were trying to treat them. The problem is that this little Ministry of Love that Big Brother W created was actually in the papers, internet, and TV constantly, and the egregious teardown of human rights he concurrently acheived managed to make the worst paranoid fantasies of the some of the most unstable people in the country a sad, bitter everyday reality. Thank God it is going to be over with. Now, professionals will still have to deal with paranoia, but not in a world where it is coming true.

Someone should send Obama a copy of this book, or then again maybe he already has it.
Has the United States failed the Zimbabwe test? Why did J. Edgar Hoover pen a note to George H. W. Bush the day after JFK’s assassination in Dallas. Why was George H. W. Bush’s oil company building oil rigs close to Cuba? In what sense is Pearl Harbor mentioned in the Statement of Principles issued during the 90s by the Project For a New American Century?
I recognize that raising such questions constitutes “looking backward” at a time when most seem to want to just move forward. But perhaps there is some truth to the old axiom that the neglect of learning from history condemns one to repeat it.

ColoradoKarl- Obama is not just another political hack. He is a very intelligent, personable publicity stunt. Mentored by Zbig at Columbia, tutored by the intellience agencies for a year upon graduation in an intelligence business front, supported by Zionists at Harvard and the U of Chicago, he is a political dream waiting to happen.
Obama is a White person with a black face, being raised by a free spirited mother and a bank executive grandmother. He has been carefully groomed by Zionist neoliberal imperialists to continue the Bushite policies after Bush. Which he is alrady doing with a power team created for the purpose.
You hope that he is going to outwit the forces that put and keep him in office? So does Anarcissie. Why on God’s formerly green earth would he do that? They made him president of the whole fucking country. And if he decides to deviate significantly, why there is always a Lonely Assassin would can shoot him because he was lonely in his childhood. And Biden can take over the reins.
But I suppose that if you are happy in your cozy life, what I am saying has implications that you don’t want to know. It is only when people are shocked out of their customary lifestyle that new ideas are adopted to deal with it. A crisis occurs, as Milton Friedman stated, and new ideas that are hanging around are adopte as the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable.
History is a mean sucker, but there doesn’t seem to be any way of getting around it.

Here is another interesting question: what happened to the engines from the “plane” that hit the pentagon?

What is stupid is that he is not safety, and his cowarice is not strength, and the world, if smart will reject him 100% and Hillary will net the proper “obliteration” from the political landsscape that should have happened today. ANY U.N. nation can bluntly tell her in their eyes she does not exist, she has obliterated herself entirely as having no meaning, no standing, Iran is OWED an apology which was demanded when she said she would “obliterate” Iran. They do not want nuclear weapons and ARE in COMPLIANCE with the ABM Treaty. We are the worst country in the world, and Hillary is so bad she deserves to be told by everyone who cares about “no nukes” that she has obliterated her crediblity at one hundred percent until she apologizes to Iran in writing and to the Ambassador’s face, formally, at the U.N.
She does not represent me as an American citizen, nor any American citizen I know, but those who I talk to, while they do not support the “obliterate” Hillary, they do not care, they expect her to be forced to do as she ought to. They should force the right stuff, each and every citizen should tell her until she apologizes, she is obliterate herself, due. No standing for the country, NO. She stands against the world. My mind was opened to the controversy surrounding the official 9/11 narrative when professor Jones came forward with his objections and concerns regarding the collapse of the towers (i.e. the official narrative just simply is not physically possible).
The question: Why would a conservative, tenured, professor of Physics at a prominent, conservative, American institution of higher-learning speak-out about about his concerns regarding 9/11 and jeopardize his job, if he was not fully convinced that something was amiss?
The next question: which of the following is more likely to be lying
A) the laws of physics
B) the government
And the final question (this one completely ignored by the 9/11 commission) why did building 7 collapse? Fire? If that is your answer please refer to the question above concerning the laws of physics.

What if Barack Obama’s actual “inaugural message,” to Robert Scheer and all the “irregulars” here on his site, as well as the waiting-with-baited-breath world-at-large, is something like this? The best he, Barack Hussein Obama, can do for theamericanpeople (and other domesticated peoples) in their present dire circumstances is to buy them a little “time,” and carve them out a little “space” to re-FORM their helplessly individuated selfs into Living Human Communities (Some of us Natives call ‘em Tiyoshpayes.), before the corporate collossus that CONtrived his own elevation to “the presidency” becomes effectively unstoppable in its insatiable drive to devour our Mother Earth and all Her Children. “Be they ‘live or be they dead, ITT’ll grind their bones to make Merck’s ‘bread’.”
That is sure the “theme” this old Indian, and those among my free wild Sisters and Brothers who tuned-in, heard loud-and-clear yesterday. For “New Era of Responsibility” overdub “You’re all on your own, but your only chance is to get TOGETHER.” Obama’s mostly off-the-shelf rhetoric (however articulately and dramatically delivered), set beside his so-far unexceptioned money-and-power-monger-accommodating appointments and announced policies, really leaves no other sensible “reading” of his perhaps newly-enhanced grasp of just who really is WHO in the virtual world-o’-hurt he’s suddenly supposed by so many to be so much “in-charge-of.”
It seems likely the new U.S. president is already wishing (it’s dead-certain he soon will be, if not) that he’d been a lot more careful about what he wished-for. It’s also dead-certain that those “civilized individuals” who expect him to somehow “deliver” them from any number of fates worse than death are going to end-up terribly disappointed….not because the man wouldn’t in-the-end give such a futile exercise his best shot, but because the unexceptioned record of “saviors” here is that they can’t even “save” their selfs. Look, for example, at the unrelieved tale of vicious “civilized” atrocity that has followed as Night follows day the advent and inevitable official murder here of the widely-reputed-to-be Once-and-Future(?) “Prince-of-Peace”....and whatever his “freshness” and many other fine qualities, Barack Hussein Obama is no Prince, even of Bel-Aire.
So maybe smart people will heed the call, from an obviously very smart “individual,” to waste no “time” or effort in getting “re-ORGAN-ized” into fully functional Living communities, in which they will regain the integrity of their organic function within the Living Arrsngment of our Mother Earth, helping Her and ALL of us together to go on whirling and warbling in the Great Song ‘n’ Dance of Life Herownself. Those still thinking they might have some other VIABLE “option” will be much sooner than later among the “sore distressed.”

Let’s make ourselves responsible for helping to expose the gangsters in our government who perpetrated 9-11 before they engineer another incident or our President gets assassinated.

Folktruther, I live in the exact center of the Industrial Military Complex. If I did not read or watch the MSM I would have no Idea that this country has any financial problems. My total lack of credit and pay as I go lifestyle seams to be serving me very well at the moment. The IMC has made my little world very cozy indeed. Obama may be just another political Hack, A mid level block in the pyramid of world power. His rise from nowhere IS reminiscent of Bill’s and an Ivy league degree is not a badge of trust in my book. Folk,
I forgot to mention another point of disagreement, which is your claim that the same people put Obama in power as put in Bush. First you ignore that the Internet has greatly increased democracy by making almost cost-free to communicate and raise large amounts of money in small amounts from ordinary Americans. That has changed everything. Secondly, even large sectors of corporate America outside of the “military-industrial complex” of defense contractors and oil companies were hurt by the Bush policies. So even among corporations and the rich and powerful, the support is not coming from the same people.

Folkie,
We shall see, my friend. This is not one of those things that cannot be tested. I am very much my father’s son and I have forgotten nothing that he taught me. It is a scientifically proven fact that the towers were demolished, according to the scientific standards that he taught me. Whether Obama is with “them” or not is also not a matter of faith but can also be tested. I am putting my faith in him up to the point where I can say he has been tested. What is unmistakably obvious to you may require for me up to a year of observation to make that judgment. At the end of that time I will admit that you were right, or the facts really will come out in such a way that you will admit that I am. OK?

Tony & Colorado—It is quite true that it is overwhealmingly likely that high Bushite officials were complicit in the orchestration of the 9/11-antrax homicide that kicked off the endless War on Terrorism. But Dems have been complicit in the coverup, and the likelihood that Obama will help uncover the crimes of that Good Man Bush, as he calls him, is a likely as your jumping over the moon.
The same moon, let me say, that has nothing whtever to do with matters on earth, except the menstration of women. Did you say, Tony, that your father was an eminent physicist? These things must skip a generation.
let us keep our minds, such as they are, on reality. I really liked your notion, Karl, of “gently” nudging the military-indisutrial complex in a new generation, since I enjoy dingbats, but it makes me wonder how far the American people have to go to attain a realisty grasp of political reality. Sometimes its a little discouraging.
But, Tony, let me assure you that I really don’t care if I’m wrong, I would love to be wrong about Obama, but reality unfortunately is real. He is continuing the policies of Bush, since the same forces put him in place.
An Israeli war ushered him into the inauguration and his first day was spent talking to Israel and the puppet leaders of Arab countries to block the tunnels that supply Hamas. Doing the bidding of the Zionist neoliberal imperialists who put him in office.

I think most of us shed some tears during the inauguration, at least every sentient being. However, I suspect that working as an undercurrent to the emotions of seeing our first African-American president sworn into office, there was the catharsis associated with seeing the Bush Administration ushered into history. Though the fallout and consequences of the Bush Administration will certainly continue for quite some time.
Another noteworthy aspect of Obama speech was his reference to George Washington and the suggestion that it is ‘hope and virtue’ that will carry us to victory in our struggle to resolve the many crisis that currently encompass us. Hope, represented by the promise of Obama, has triumphed over our collective fear that our country would continue on its destructive policy trajectory. But if virtue fails to triumph over greed and arrogance, our exuberance will be short lived and utterly misplaced. In this new Era of Responsibility, let each of us be guided by a profound and deep sense of justice, humility and prudence. Only then will we be able to rectify our economy and restore ecological integrity to the biosphere that sustains and supports it. This is the work that each of us must accept and commit to as individuals, only then will our government be willing to follow, and empowered to make the necessary changes. Let us not shirk our personal responsibility.

coloradokarl,
I do not believe the moon landing was a hoax. I was 24 when it happened. My father was an eminent theoretical physicist. We watched it together. The whole process was completely open, not secretive and there were many thousands of scientists involved. I can tell the difference between real science and BS. I have looked at some of the purported evidence for the “hoax” and it is preposterous. It’s about as likely that the earth is flat. Of course anything imaginable is theoretically also possible. In this life we need proof beyond a reasonable doubt, not any possible doubt, and I am just as sure that we landed on the moon as I am that the towers were intentionally demolished. Anybody linking 9-11 with this moon landing hoax theory is going to be laughed out of the room. Please forget about this idea and concentrate on 9-11. Obama chooses the pragmatic rubric. This could spell trouble.
Why?
Is there such a thing as a political act that makes everyone happy? Is Obama an “end of ideology” guy—a pure pragmatist, a “what works person? Take any of the acts that need doing in the coming days: bail out the banks or help foreclosed homeowners, more troops to Afghanistan or wind down, push Israel to end the settlements or keep on allowing them, encourage unions or keep Wal-mart happy, have affordable health care for all or let the insurance companies have their way, greater Pentagon spending for Empire building and control or scaling back for peace and diplomacy?
Many choices here. It’s hard to see how a country or President can do it all, square the circle and make everyone happy.
Looking historically at Pragmatism (“whatever works, is likely true”) and its twin, Utilitarianism, (“doing the most good for the most people)” we get some workable notions. These seems doable but I don’t think that is what the “end of ideology/Pragmatist/David Brooke” crowd wants when they want a “pragmatic president.” More likely they want to help Wall Street and not Main Street, privatize health care and social security and in general have a guns rather than butter economy. This is not the end of ideology –it’s more like you end your ideology but I’m keeping mine.

coloradokarl,
Glad to meet you. You and I are what this country needs million of right now - Obama supporters who believe 9-11 was an inside job. Obama can’t do it by himself, but if there are enough of us, we can do it together. I would be all for “moving forward” if it were just a matter of correcting bad economic policies - and of course we must also do that. But 9-11 is obviously something else. If the truth does not come out, then it will indeed prove that those who did it are still in control and the Obama administration is complicit. It is up to us to spread this among our fellow Obama supporters at every level.

Tony Wicher, I wrote my statement before I saw your statement. Mine concerned the financial fiasco our country currently finds itself in. 6 months ago I spent a long weekend on Utube and determined the 911 thing was indeed an inside job. My personal solution included topo maps to my safe house survival gear and a six month supply of food. I feel in talking to my fellows in the community that appx.40% agree with the Inside job theory. Barack Obama has courage but is no fool. Baby steps are appropriate for a mission as grand as yours. Step 1) Japan has a surveyor doing a photo essay of the moon for the last several months. No photos of our lunar activities. Wouldn’t that be the first thing to document? This Question would set the precedent for Governmental deception and open the door for the 911 thing. Baby Steps

Really? You mean we should just “move forward” even though the people who did 9/11 are still part of our government, ready to assassinate our president or engineer another false flag attack whenever it suits them? People who say this are either totally naive or working for the bad guys.

Folks,
Here is the most important thing we can do to help Obama:
It’s time for everybody who understands that 9/11 was an inside job to flood the Obama administration with email demanding the investigation be reopened. I have spent some time collecting and reviewing the evidence. If you at a level of education where you are capable of understanding a lecture in freshman physics or chemistry, then you can be as confident that the collapse of WTC1, 2 and 7 were intentionally demolished by preset explosives as you are of the truth of Newton’s laws of motion. We are talking about facts established with overwhelming evidence. With the Bush administration gone, 9-11 truthers must redouble their efforts to tear the cover off. If anybody has any connections with anybody at any level within the Obama administration, it’s time to invite that person to dinner and show them a 9/11 video. Not just any video put out by some paranoid punk who understands neither science nor political history, which I am afraid describes a lot of 9/11 truthers, but a sober, serious presentation by qualified engineers and architects. Such videos may be found at:
http://www.ae911truth.org/
This is what I am going to be doing for the next four years. As one who has been a strong supporter of Obama from the beginning, I believe that is not “one of them” but is a real American and a good person like me who is fighting “them” and needs my help. At least as a supporter there is a chance that my voice will be heard. Many of the posters here automatically assume that Obama must be one of “them” or he would never have been allowed to come to power. They could very well be right. My faith in Obama is not unlimited, and now that he is inaugurated, we can judge by what he does, not what he says. We are going to find out for sure in the next year or so. But I say, let’s hope for the best instead of assuming the worst. Let’s assume his heart is in the right place and try to help him as best we can. His administration will be a complete failure and a sell-out if the truth of 9/11 does not come out, and I will have to admit that Folktruther, troublesum and others posting here have been right all along. If by any chance I am right and the cover does come off, I am sure that we will all be jumping for joy so much that Folktruther and troublesum will not remember to post a small comment acknowledging that I am a most veritable prophet. It’s OK, I won’t hold it against you.

We, as a Nation really need to move forward. As much as I hate to say it, dwelling on the indiscretions of the past is a waste of valuable time and energy. The cure for the greed and the control freakishness of corporate America is a Simple Tax Code that is Fair, Honest and doesn’t require a PHD in accounting to unravel. Everyone needs to pay their fair share. The Congress should be required to work FULL TIME and get off the “Mouse Wheel” of endless Campaigning. Tenure in Government is the “boat anchor” that keeps even the best ideas from finding safe port. We, as a Nation, must focus on our own “house” and stop trying to save the world, after all, “Charity Begins at Home” and we can’t help others until our own house is in order. If we want to stop useless war we must gently nudge the Military Industrial Complex in a new direction, I say environmental and energy technology. All proper and useful gains in society will come from understanding through love and compassion not the fear based anger that divides us.

Seven hundred billion dollars is a prodigious amount of money, and to have it disappear with no accounting is nothing short of criminal. Lots of attempts to characterize how much money ths is, but I imagine a world trade center every three miles extending from the Atlantic to the Pacific. That’s what you could build for $700B.

My FIRST FAX/email to Obama White House:
Dear President Obama and Vice President Biden,
“HOPE has two children. The first is ANGER at the way things are. The second is COURAGE to DO SOMETHING about it.”-St. Augustine
As a person of Hope for Change I encourage you to focus on the ways to broker true security for Israel; through justice for Palestinians.
Justice requires and End to the Occupation and equal human rights for all.
The way to achieve it is through a self-determined, democratic and contiguous Palestinian State in the West Bank and Gaza.
Jerusalem can indeed become a shining city on a hill when it is shared and also becomes the International Capital of the World.
My hope for change is that security, peace and reconciliation in the Holy Land, and the entire Middle East will not lie in militarism and nuclear weapons, but in Justice and Mercy which equates to Equal Human Rights for all.
As we begin the 9th year of The UN’s Decade of Creating a Culture of NONVIOLENCE for all the Children of the World, may the US become the change to make that real!
My hope is that in 2009, The Wall will fall and that Change must begin when walls fall in hearts and minds.

““Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some,” he said. But why then has he backed a bailout program that rewards the greediest of bankers while ignoring struggling homeowners?”
Dear Mr. Scheer,
Public Citizen points to the obvious answer to this question. Add this to the contributions made to the Obama campaign by these same individuals and I think it should be clear.
Quote:
“The numbers have gone up since we’ve done the last analysis. The last counting was about $42 million. And by the end of it, I expect it to reach about $50 million being raised and spent from private sources.
And the single largest sector paying for this huge inaugural event is Wall Street. You know, you already cited the figures that 80 percent of all this money has come just from 211 wealthy individuals who have bundled anywhere up to $300,000 each to help pay for the inauguration. Well, if you take a look at who those wealthy individuals are, you find that they are representatives of Citibank, of Wachovia Bank, of Goldman Sachs, of Lehman Brothers. These are the people who are footing the bill for the inauguration, for the most part. There is also bundlers representing Hollywood, as well as lawyers and law firms, but the single largest sector is Wall Street.
Report thisAnd what do you suppose Wall Street wants in return for all this, for paying for all these activities? It’s pretty clear. I mean, Wall Street is right in the middle of the largest bailout program we’ve ever seen of the financial sector. Obama is going to be presiding over that bailout program in just a matter of a couple hours. And it’s Wall Street that wants a seat at Obama’s table, when it comes to deciding the nature of the bailout program.”

The TARP was Obama’s 9/11. It changed everything. Congress doesn’t know what the banks are doing with the money because it is none of their business. Apparently the threats made to some members of congress about martial law if they didn’t pass the bailout bill were real. When has congress ever been so sheepish about finding out how federal outlays are being spent? There isn’t going to be any accounting for that money. This is why Obama appointed some of the crooks who created the mess to begin with to positions where they will be overseeing the bailout.
