Caroline Kennedy Asks to Be Time’s Person of the Year

By Andy Borowitz

Caroline Kennedy would like to be considered Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2009 and has let the magazine’s editor know of her interest in the honor, aides to Ms. Kennedy confirmed this week.

While some observers considered Ms. Kennedy’s bid to be premature, especially since 2009 has not officially begun, aides to the New York senatorial aspirant said that it reflected her view that 2009 will be a very big year for her.

“I think Caroline’s calling Time magazine and asking to be put on the cover shows just what a tireless worker she is,” said cousin Kerry Kennedy. “When she really wants something, she’s not afraid to roll up her sleeves and make a phone call.”

Her cousin said that having witnessed Caroline’s work ethic, she has no doubt that she is deserving of Time’s highest honor: “I can’t tell you how many times she’s gotten the wrong number, been put on hold, or had calls dropped altogether.”

In addition to the Person of the Year honors, Kerry Kennedy said that Caroline had also expressed an interest in next year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

“That’s a call she hasn’t made yet,” Ms. Kennedy said. “She has to figure out the time difference in Oslo.”

Not. Funny.
This is “syndicated?”
A low bar indeed.
Mr. Borowitz must know someone.
Perhaps he asked his “friends” to be a “syndicated humor columnist” despite all evidence to the contrary.

Give us strenth…this is ridiculous. To think that a person of the year only needs to be spoiled and have money. How about Britney Spears? At least she made a comeback…

i’ll try to be clearer. some commas would have helped. I was not insulting the poor. i was attacking the upper middle class status quo “liberals” who do not want to allow a Kennedy in the senate to positively inlfuence towards social justice and change, because they are so averse to sharing opportunity and resources with the poor. i am not anti-poor, au contraire.

i am anti-sneaky reactionary bourgoisie.

“Its obvious that the snide wannabe richer gated community comfortable class who pretend to be progressive are as usual effete snobs.”
What an amazing yak of a sentence. Perhaps you’ve never seen the glow on an internet peasant’s face at a St. Vincent’s thrift store, upon discovering a Sony Play Station 1 that still works. Not to play games mind you, but simply to have a means to play a CD with (connecting it to the aux line in of an ancient tape deck boom box). These tiny realities are something the rich born and able will never understand.
Happy Christmas to all.

She has a ghost written book about the 2nd amendment not being an individual right.  Completely wrong.  The question is what restrictions can be put on an individual right guaranteed by the constitution.

It’s obvious that the snide wannabe richer gated community comfortable class who pretend to be progressive are as usual effete snobs.
Carolyn Kennedy and several prominent members of her family have shown by their solidarity with the bedraggled national notion of the common good, that they will give their lives to move our nation forward.

The slimy so-called humor here mimics the so=called humot of the new yorker cartoon that painted Obama as a terrorist: not funny at all, and no shred of truth to it.

caroline kennedy can make the difference to achieve Obama’s ambitious agenda. To try to downgrade her ambition and impune her motives : to help our nation,is typical of the jaded cynics who tried to give us round of another self-indulgent, self-enriching at our nation’s cost, by supporting Clinton for President.

A plutocrat is a ruthless, dishonest, make money at all costs betrayer of democracy. The only people who fit that description are those who sold us out to the global corporate oligarchs, the active sex and ego-boosting Bill Clinton,  and the bemused by his own stupidity,war-mongering for oil-drenched crony-enriching on the backs of our nation’s true blue working class heroes who fought this brutal greed-spawned George W. Bush.

Caroline Kennedy has the gravitas, legacy of sacrifice for social justice, maturity and HONOR to be a remarkable and able leader. It is time that the wannabe rich and celebrified pseudo-pundits who get paid to slime others and call it journalism wake up and recognize grace, dignity and capoacity when they see it.
Instead, unchallenged, they will pull us down with polarization and mediocrity.

According to the New York Daily News, Ms. Kennedy has a net worth of over $100 million, including a 366 acre spread on Martha’s Vineyard. With that kind of scratch and real estate muscle, entitlement does not seem out of the question.
Oh yea, the trust fund from the dead Greek step-daddy just keeps on giving. Must be nice…

UPDATE:

CAROLINE KENNEDY SEEKS QUEENSHIP OF ENGLAND

New York, NY—In a stunning, but not entirely unexpected, turn of events, Caroline Kennedy has withdrawn her name from consideration as interim U.S. Senator from New York and has set her sights somewhat higher by expressing her intention to become Queen of England when the current Queen passes on.

Although Ms. Kennedy is technically American, and thus not qualified to be Queen, she stated today that “The Kennedy’s ARE royalty, and thus I have as much right to the seat as anyone.”

Should Ms. Kennedy be successful, her power would be limited by England’s partliamentary system, but she would become owner or trustee of properties and art worth an estimated $11 billion U.S.  Ms. Kennedy admits that “that would not change my holdings by all that much.”

“Perhaps you didn’t notice the humor section noted at the top of this article.  I feel sorry for those that can’t take a joke, I feel even sorrier for those that don’t get it.”

~~~
We use to see Andy Borowitz humor on a weekly basis. Not anymore. His HUMOR is here less and less! I suspect the editor sees the futility of trying to crack a smile, or get a laugh out of the oh-so serious folks who type to save the world! wink
I look for it, certain we will all get a good laugh [love that punch-line] then wait for the almost as funny [funny-peculiar, not funny ha-ha] comments!
No point in feeling sorry for the folks who can’t take a joke, or don’t get it. That’s not the problem. The problem is they can’t UNDERSTAND HUMOR, nor the concept.
~~~

On a more serious note. Time Magazine has issued a press release. “We are aware of the Kennedy request. However we do not accept name submittals, because we do not know what’s coming in 2009.”

Kennedy family spokesman, Noah T. All, responded with the following release. “We regret any misunderstanding this has caused. We support Caroline and hope she will eventually be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. After all, few if any politicians today work hard for peace. And given the high personal price Caroline has paid in the pursuit of service, we feel this is much more appropriate.”

~~~
OK, I know ... that’s not funny. But someone has to answer the bashers. They would be saying the same thing if the humor had been directed at a Clinton, or an Obama. Bashing is the name of their game! They haven’t figured out the difference between bashing and roasting. Poor things.
I have made a 180 degree turn on the appointment of Caroline Kennedy for the NY Senate seat now that she has made public her positions on several hot-button issues of progressives. It does not necessarily mean that she might become a better senator than some of the other candidates but it will mean that she will be a more progressive Senator than Hillary Clinton or Mr. Schumer.
If her last name were anything other than Kennedy, she would be laughed out of the room for nominating herself for Time’s Person of the Year. My God, even Sarah Palin has more cred than Caroline Kennedy for this distinction. Don’t get me wrong: neither deserve it, but Kennedy definitely doesn’t deserve it. What moxey!
Work ethic?  Because she can make multiple phone calls?  This makes her Person of the Year?!  Oh, and what /exactly/ has Ms. Kennedy DONE to warrant the Nobel Peace Prize?  Worked with warring factions in some stricken region?  Maybe helped develop some breakthrough in diplomatic processes to ensure better communications?  No?  Yeah, didn’t think so.
This is ridiculous.  And honestly, it screams that Time and the Nobel committee can be ‘bought’ or ‘swayed’ with phone calls by the undeserving!
Person of the Year?
Is she out of her bonking mind?
First you Do something ‘above and beyond’
what all the other good people are doing-
then They nominate you.
If you have to point yourself out in the crowd,
you’re not really standing out are you?
geesh.
how pompous!
