Remember that long-ago news conference when George W. Bush couldn’t think of any mistakes he had made? Unbelievably, he still can’t.

When ABC’s Charles Gibson, interviewing Bush at Camp David, asked the president what one “do-over” he’d like to have, this was Bush’s reply:

“I don’t know—the biggest regret of all the presidency has to have been the intelligence failure in Iraq. A lot of people put their reputations on the line and said the weapons of mass destruction is a reason to remove Saddam Hussein. It wasn’t just people in my administration; a lot of members in Congress, prior to my arrival in Washington, D.C., during the debate on Iraq, a lot of leaders of nations around the world were all looking at the same intelligence. And, you know, that’s not a do-over, but I wish the intelligence had been different, I guess.”

Fellow sufferers from Bush Derangement Syndrome, mind your blood pressure. Just seven more weeks. Hang in there, because there are two more snippets from the interview that I have to quote.

When Gibson asked whether there would have been an Iraq war if Bush had known that Saddam had no WMD, Bush replied: “You know, that’s an interesting question. That is a do-over that I can’t do. It’s hard for me to speculate.” And when Gibson asked Bush what was his greatest accomplishment, he got this response: “I keep recognizing we’re in a war against ideological thugs and keeping America safe.”

Observe the astounding selectivity of the president’s memory. Just imagine all the other do-overs he could have asked for. He might regret not paying more attention to the Aug. 6, 2001, presidential daily briefing memo, which was titled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” and reported “patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks.” He might wish he hadn’t put the nation’s emergency response capability in the hands of Michael Brown, a former executive of the International Arabian Horse Association, and then watched from afar as New Orleans drowned. The president might have volunteered, as he did in a previous interview, that his “Mission Accomplished” photo-op on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln was a moment he’d like to have back.

But no. Instead, he told Gibson that his “biggest regret” was a mistake made by others: intelligence analysts who got it wrong about Iraq.

The only inference we can draw is that if the intelligence had been more skeptical of Saddam’s WMD prowess, there might not have been an Iraq war. Bush’s “hard for me to speculate” dodge notwithstanding, this seems to be the story the outgoing administration wants to tell. Karl Rove recently sounded this same revisionist theme, saying that “absent weapons of mass destruction” there likely would have been no invasion.

But there was plenty of skeptical intel about Iraq’s alleged WMD, particularly its nuclear program—the potential “mushroom cloud” that Condoleezza Rice so chillingly evoked. Shaky or ambiguous reports—such as the bogus document about Iraq’s attempt to buy yellowcake uranium in Niger—were presented as gospel. International nuclear inspectors, meanwhile, were inside Iraq doing their job.

There’s another problem with the way Bush is trying to rewrite history. After U.S. forces combed Iraq for WMD and established that none existed, the administration came up with other backdated rationales for the invasion. Vice President Cheney even kept insisting on some link with 9/11 that only he could perceive; after a while, nobody paid him any attention.

Bush spoke of having liberated Iraqis from the savage rule of a tyrant—which is true, but that wasn’t the reason we were originally told we had to go to war. The president spoke of having created a democracy in the heart of the Middle East, one that would shoot tendrils of freedom to take root throughout the region—which is a hard story to sell when the war’s greatest geopolitical impact has been to strengthen theocratic Iran to the point that it dares to dream of ancient Persian glory.

Bush pats himself on the back for keeping his eye on the ball—the “war against ideological thugs.” But those ideological thugs are ensconced somewhere, probably in the lawless frontier territories of Pakistan, rebuilding their murderous networks and plotting new attacks. I’m betting that they don’t regret Bush’s decision to invade Iraq, either.

In recent memory there was no sadder sight known to Man than an utterly unrepentant George W. Bush playing the “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda” game with Charles Gibson.

Gibson’s failed attempt at eliciting even the slightest trace of humility and/or (God forbid) contrition from Bush for the horrific mess he’s made of things was, in my opinion, a waste of precious breath and valuable time.

Talk about your “Teflon Presidents,” George W. Bush should apply for a patent on the term ASAP since he owns it lock, stock and barrel.

When i was an enlisted man many, many moons ago, and as a supervisor i got more tired of hearing the same old excuse that it was a “simple human error” everytime something would go wrong and, of course, with that justification nothing ever got corrected.  Still i ask how there can be so many, many simple human errors in controlled situations and with so many college educated professionals all working together as One?  Georgie still is wanting history to reflect his reasoning that everything wrong was due to erroneous intelligence but, he has not ever once said any of it was accidental.  Pathetic, yuk!

The ovens in Ohio: that is where all the folks went missing from: & it is the US citizens who are to be “numbered”; NOT the “illegals”; remember the “for the greater good” and “showing we are turning over a new leaf” comments made by Palin? REFUGEES with Benefits: giving illegals job preferences (all military personel have mental problems (Gov) followed by Corps saying we don’t want to hire military people: US Gov started disparaging US citizens years ago; won’t do the work; incompetent, etc; THEY are the reason for all the ills in the world; & didn’t Hitler also use “jesus” in his day? THIS is the reason the world is talking about Hitler, how it was done in his day, & the USA & how it is being done today; stating: by the time the American’s wake up it will be to late! THIS is the American people’s TIME to wake up NOW! All that is going on with the supposed “recession” etc; with the supposed “$ gone!”; it is ALL smoke & mirrors folks: to claim THEY are the righteous; & all the ills they have done is due to the American citizens demanding it of them. China: the children dying from formula: THEY are being told it is the US citizens doing it; and YES: it IS IN THE USA; AP forced FDA thru freedom of information act to reveal it; they did & it is in USA however they REFUSED to state which brands it is: probably cuz can be traced right back to the White House & Congress. Dear KDelphi, in the end, only symptoms matter.  There are about 60 symptoms in DSM IV that in different combinations are made into over 600 labels.  Labels are just a convenience, more than scientifically useful.  The symptoms are useful and part of the solutions.

He’s not stupid in the traditional sense of the word, (and ‘traditional’ is probably debatable, but not worth the energy, since we know what you mean).

As for paying a price, they probably have, but definitely NOT the traditional prices that the rest of us pay, often with our very lives.

The Village Elder has explained it perfectly, as was your summary. They and all of their class have managed this all with impunity. The Bush Legacy is important to them, but not that important….especially when they will of course continue to revise history to protect it, if only in their own minds.

The rest of the class who have benefited just as much, don’t give a rat’s ass about the Bush Legacy any damn way!!

Bubba: You forgot the FEMA camps built during the Bush years, over 600+.

mistersister:check out the camps in Zanesville, Ohio. You can see the ovens in the aerial shots. They have also observed bringing in “gas” that is not used for heat or cooking. The type of gas they had delivered was the type used to cook people(lethal). I have done attended Native Peoples events in this area before the camps were built. And I have read that these camps were built to round up the illegals if they try to flee this country(might be if Martial Law is declared)so they cannot return home, not if they are coming here.

Bush told over 935 lies just about the Iraq war. He remembers, don’t believe his lies. He just refuses to acknowledge just how evil, corrupt and morally vile he really is.

Yes, that is what we have had “running” (ruining) this country.  Regan through Bush II, they have served their masters and class well.  There is no need to apologize, for members of their class have done well and profited during these administrations.  The corporate and government aristocracy have no complaints.  Money has been made and the populace has been mollified through fear mongering with promises to protect against that ever present but elusive enemy.

The will of a supreme being has frequently been alluded too, as have values and and other divisive catch phrases designed to divert attention from reality.  The collapse of this economy was predicted, with charts and graphs, during the eighties.  A corrupted view of Adam Smith’s “invisible hand” and Ayn Rand’s “doctrine of individual will and greed” served as the guideposts for civil, social and economic policy. A bankrupt notion that should have died abirthing.

Oil is today trading at $40.00 or below (USD).  Our financial, industrial and military sectors have been bled dry.  We continue the transfer of public funds to corporate profits.  The citizenry are given all the regard of Irish nationals during the great famine.

A bankrupt depressed country is of little concern to the aristocracy of the multinationals.

Perhaps the Bush Administration’s only contribution to the American people is to show them how much damage can be done by a few powerful men in a very short time.  Now it is up to us to re-Constitute our democracy, stop the imperialistic conquests of politicians and financiers, and get on with cleaning up the environment and leveling the so-called playing field, so that millions of the world’s children don’t have to scavenge in dumps for food.

the only incompetence has been the ability to discern this administrations’ real agenda. i believe that the most accurate parallel can be found in the nationalist-socialist party’s takeover of the german democracy in the 20s and 30s. from the family ties to the rise of the nazis to georges’ acting lessons,( didnt need to work on illiteracy but had to do something about accent ). look at what the land of “free” has become. without hab corp, there is NO PROTECTION UNDER LAW. i’m using google earth to look for the new concentration camps we built ( for a sudden influx of illegal immigrants ). to see if they have large smokestacks.
where is “globalization” and “new world order” found in constitution? i’m afraid the constitution was used as toilet paper by truman with the passage of the national security act of 47. this opened the door for a world empire that is unconstitutional. we seem to enjoy the right of free speech but i’m secure in the knowledge that every word written and spoken is subject to gov’t scrutiny and if i’m deemed dangerous i’ll be taken away.
will obama do anything besides bringing the bill clinton era jar of vaseline? does anyone think that he may have studied mlk’s speeches to better imitate the tone and inflection? how can there be a discussion about whether murderers, kidnappers, torturers, mass murderers, and war profiteers not be prosecuted? democracy my ass.

So JFKLiberal, (whatever that means) how do you know this? Got any evidence for how Obama and ‘most of his supporters’ SECRETLY support bin Laden?

_____________________________________

Well, I am of the opinion—that Farrakhan (a Obama cult supporter) and the million man march movement,  were not protesting to seek individual freedom, but rather a groupthink mentality,  (a form of mental slavery) which is advocated by the black power movement, which is openly anti-semitic.

All this energy;  in the short term gives the group a feeling of warmth; by the multitude of numbers;but it is not a movement for social change— or for civil rights— but simply a mob of hate.

Myself bring a half Jew; I see the hate in the black power movement; that also openly support Palestinian rights—and support it, not so much for their rights to human dignity—under a international rule of law; but the right to be terrorists; which only can create more fear, destruction and wars.

Well, anytime you hear a politician (Clinton, Hillary, Bush, Obama) say support the troops; what they are saying is support militarism—which created Bin Laden.

It is a unpublished fact that the CIA created Bin laden, and each and every time; they allow a war to continue without protesting in the streets the injustice of the military-industrial-complex (the military)—they are in fact supporting Bin Laden.

Fear,  is what they are really attempting to fight with these bogus wars; but a war cannot conquer the fear; that created Bin Laden.

Now lets see Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Clinton and now Obama. Hmmmmm, I don’t know why the GOP even still exists.

That is the saddest part of the whole story. The reason I would not vote for McCain or Obama this election—is because what the people were really electing into office;  were people that were incapable of ending war, and bring peace and prosperity back to America and the world.

Obama, or at least most of his supporters; secretly support Bin laden; that is the extent of the despair; that poverty and war, has inflicted upon our great nation.

Ah HA! (again)

•  “…Vice President Cheney even kept insisting on some link with 9/11 that only he could perceive; after a while, nobody paid him any attention…”

This is true. Nobody (meaning the American citizenry)  paid much attention to Cheney, -EVER- which is exactly the way he’s wanted to keep things. But that’s been a dreadful and fatal position for the American public, because Richard B Cheney epitomizes the most powerful VP EVER, in the history of the US Constitution. Dick Cheney and his henchmen, (Libby, Addington, and others) have been running things from the shadow government for the entire stint…since even before the Coup, and that’s the thing that so many of us (journalists included) don’t get. Otherwise, (and no offense to Mr. Robinson, because I always appreciate his work) we wouldn’t still be marveling at these incredible responses from GW. I stopped marveling at the things this retard says long ago, when he kept getting away with it. Nobody called for any competency hearings, or anything else to correct the obvious…the USA had fallen into the hands of flippin’ psychopathic fascists, (remember Hitler?)and nobody seemed to notice.

And, here we are 8 years later, after the destruction, and he’s still a psychopath, and so is Cheney. So, what would have changed in any of his psychotic responses to these questions?
Now on THIS..

•  “..But those ideological thugs are ensconced somewhere, probably in the lawless frontier territories of Pakistan, rebuilding their murderous networks and plotting new attacks. I’m betting that they don’t regret Bush’s decision to invade Iraq, either. ..”

Eugene is right on the money. I’m POSITIVE they don’t regret the moronic decision (more Cheney’s and Rummy’s than Georgie’s) to invade Iraq, seeing as how it actually put al-Qaeda and others on the map in Iraq, where they’d never been able to get even close as long as Saddam was in power. Saddam wasn’t having it. Bin Laden had tried before.

So yeah, what could be a greater example of the hunter being captured by his game? Al-Qaeda is loving this..they might even mourn GW’s passage from office.

They would be the ONLY ones…

“Remember that long-ago news conference when” after losing two elections in a row, first for president and then for governor of California, another deservedly maligned Republican pol held a farewell press conference in which he angrily hissed to reporters, “you won’t have Richard Nixon to kick around anymore!” Robinson can’t let go. After eight years of habitual Bush bashing, there’s only a few paydays left to sound the familiar incriminating themes. “Just seven more weeks.” And then he won’t have George W. to kick around any more. He’ll have to find another meal ticket. Maybe he could just go on sabbatical for four years or perhaps he’ll be reduced to spinning more fawning puffery about George W.‘s incoming successor and political soul brother Barack H. “Fellow sufferers from Obama Deification Syndrome, mind your blood pressure. Just seven more weeks”... and it will get even worse! Just “observe the astounding selectivity”... of the Obama publicists as they trumpet the same old corporate imperialist policies as long as they’re carried on by an “inclusive” band of Democratic cutthroats. Oh sure, you can always divert attention by trying to make them look the lesser-of-two-evils to Bush. Of course, it’s always easy to “imagine all the other do-overs he could have asked for.” He might regret appointing the “mushroom cloud…so chillingly evoked” propagandist, Condoleezza Rice as National Security Adviser. He might reget appointing a liar like Colin Powell, Sec. of State so he could present “shaky or ambiguous reports—such as the bogus document about Iraq’s attempt to buy yellowcake uranium in Niger” to the UN. He might also regret that Dick Cheney was ever born. There are obviously many other things that can be imagined for Bush to regret, including the distressing fact that Obama Copacabana will be largely following in his footsteps. “Bush spoke of having liberated Iraqis from the savage rule of a tyrant—which is true, but that wasn’t the reason we were originally”...supporting Saddam for so many tyrannical years beforehand - with no objection from the Democrats or The Washington Post. And now Obama and his theo-barack flock are aghast that Iran “dares to dream of ancient Persian glory.” How dare they! Don’t they know that the Middle East belongs to us. So if there’s an attack on Iran, there can be nothing to regret if Ayatollah Obama does it. “Bush pats himself on the back for keeping his eye on the ball—the ‘war against ideological thugs.’ But those ideological thugs are ensconced somewhere, probably in the lawless frontier territories of Pakistan, rebuilding their murderous networks and plotting new attacks.” Hint! Hint! If St.Barack, not only attacks Iran but invades Pakistan as he’s already adverted, then come what may, it can then all be blamed - “backdated” - on Bush. I’m betting that Obama apologists don’t regret Bush’s decision to invade Iraq, either.

Remember when Bush said that God was speaking to him?! I was convinced then and more so now that the one who was talking to him and inspiring his evil was no other than the Great Satan, posing as God.

This reminds me of one ironies of history that happened in 1220 as pagan Genghis Khan was spreading havoc and destruction over the cultural centers of weakened political Islam, such as Samarqand, Balkh and Bukhara, he was reported to have said: “I am the scourge of God sent to men as punishment for their sins.” The irony of this statement is that it was uttered by a pagan who really didn’t have a clear concept of God or monotheism. It seems to me that Genghis Khan then was confusing the Great Satan with God, as Bush did so many centuries after.

So as Bush these days is active in reflecting on his legacy for posterity, he should be borrowing Genghis Khan’s statement with some modification so as to read: “I am the scourge of Great Satan sent to men as a punishment for their belief in me and their following my misguidance!”

Why would the media and government lie about 911? Sure they lied about WMD’s, torture, dumping depleted uranium used in bombs over the entire country of Iraq, rendition flights….but why would they lie about 911? Sure the media and government lied about outing agents names, actions taken during Katrina, lied about the killing of thousands of people and 10’s of thousands of personal pets and animals following Katrina, retaliations against attorney generals for political reasons, threatening Congress, blackmailing Senators, destroying all tapes and transcripts of the days and week following Katrina…but why would they lie about some planes crashing?

Eliminated habeas corpus, installed and supported Blackwater, “lost” trillions of dollars at the Pentagon, privatized and sold-out the entire US infrastructure, illegally used funds meant to “rebuild” Iraq, immunity for telecoms and pharmaceutical that they ordered to commit crimes…but why would the media and government lie about a plane crash? Sure they lied about the massacres in Haiti, stole the elections in 2000 and 2004, detonated the levees in New Orleans 2 days after Katrina left, misquoted world leaders to produce fear.  Lied about water contaminations, toxic exposures, global warming, immigrant roundups, number of deaths of Iraqi and Afghanistan civilians, number of killed US soldiers, pillaging of our entire US financial banking with corporate give outs and bailouts, secretly changing executive orders however they wish, medical associations in charge of CIA torture…..but why would the media and government lie about 4 planes crashing at 4 locations on 911?

Pillaged Billions from the US education system with No child left behind, encouraged massive real estate fraud through deregulation and zero oversight, deposits nuclear waste on US soil from foreign countries by “redefining” what waste is, covers-up Halliburton’s selling of nuclear technology, eliminates protections for whistleblowers, hires out torture worldwide to private companies, allows for the greatest crop of heroin to grow in Afghanistan, and refuses to say where trillions have gone within the Homeland Security agency….though why would they lie about planes crashing? Largest number of felons ever hired at the white house, intentionally destroyed Iraq’s water and energy systems, continually destroys labor unions and environmental causes, brutalizes and tortures protesters or “homegrown enemy combatants”, highest number of dual citizens in top key government positions in US history, caused the entire US financial collapse from “Subprime” mortgages which was nothing more than Bush Sr’s S&L;real estate scandal on steroids….though why lie about 911 and a couple of “planes”?

Threatens countries such as Paraguay, Pakistan, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Venezuela with military action if they don’t play ball, murders and threatens Supreme Court justices to open up seats, destroys ALL verifiable evidence of 911 and never allows for any testing, violently refuses to have an investigation of 911 for almost 2 years then gets to decide who will be on the panel, murders thousands of witnesses and legally threatens many more who wish to come forward regarding 911 especially firefighters from the Pentagon and FBI agents who said there were no planes…..though why would the media and government lie about 911? Spy on their own citizens illegally, murder journalists worldwide, eliminate tort reform, uses child wards to test AIDS drugs, destroy parental rights, manipulate and threaten science worldwide, allow media to legally lie with new laws, install puppet Governors such as Arnold in California (met with Ken Lay just before “recall”), demolish labor laws worldwide…though why would they lie about a plane crash?

I,for one, have always felt that genetics is responsible for W’s many handicaps. His grandfather, Prescott, was deeply involved in activities which supported the development of the Third Reich. His father was director of the CIA but did not know the price of groceries and his mother shares many of the qualities of the late Empress of Russia. Siamese cats, often demonstrate kinky tails,as a result of their inbreeding. In Bush’s case the kinkiness has most likely effected his brain. This may be responsible for such deficiencies as his inability to use the English language, his lack of interest in original ideas as well as his poor insight and judgement. His genetic line comes from people who have everthing and also want everything else. If this was not the case, he very likely would have spent the last eight year as the village idiot in Crawford, TX.

Bush has hardly resigned, and if you paid attention you’d know he is in the process of gutting all sorts of environmental concerns and pilfering our coffers.  Furthermore, Gene doesn’t deserve whatever you’re accusing him of.  I don’t know where you’re coming from but I’m willing to listen.

Gee, Hulk2008, you sure are a presumptuous douche-nozzle. Mine is no defense of Bush, never was. I’ve done nothing but criticize Bush since he was first elected and have never voted for him. But I sure can smell the same ‘ole Bushian foreign policy odor in your dear savior, AIPAC Stephin Fetchit, Barak Obummer. The honeymoon was over for him the moment he put out his “For Sale” sign at their convention last June. And so it should have been.

“the “war against ideological thugs.”  What?  Are you kidding me?!!?  He and his neocon cronies are the ideological thugs, yet once again he fails to recognize this fact!

Of course that would require two things (1)thinking, and (2)self reflection/introspection - these are things that sociopaths are incapable of doing!!!

One of the first credentials for the president of the United States should be a normal IQ. Only a dull witted moron could come up with a more totally unintelligible review of his job as president of the US. I was aghast, once again,  at the rampant stupidity and detachment of our President.  NO BRAINS, NO FEELING. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON HIS SOUL.  Wait God, nevermind.

Several years before his first inauguration, GW lined up with the neoCON 21st century national security hawk strategy for a new world order with Iraq being the first shock & awe target which in the last re-spinned version was in the name of establishing democracy in the heart of the Middle East. Now, inside his illusional thinking cap, GW wants to be remembered as the liberator of Iraq. He should not worry, as his minions will see to it that it is so written and shelved at the SMU Bush library.

Bush isn’t the one who “shown” that personal responsibility doesn’t exist, the American people have shown that they aren’t honest enough to demand it.  Bush will soon be history but the people will remain in tact.  There is no point in educating him, or rejuvenating him either.  Those who still feel his responses were correct are the truly dangerous.

_____

The ideological thugs were given control of our gov’t on 12/12/2000, and have acted as the terrorists they are ever since that date.

9/11 was handy, George—without which your criminal enterprise would have had to lie up some other reason to illegally invade and occupy Iraq.  Too bad some 2,000 innocent civilian Americans had to die for it, but there are those who must sacrifice for their country, and those who must exploit the sacrifices for personal gain.  Eh., George?

Now which of your parents taught you that “principle”?  Barbara?  Or Poppy?

I’m writing from the perspective of living in Barcelona, Spain: From the beginning of Bush’s mandate, I was appalled by how the the president and his cronies usurped the English language, changing the meaning of words to fit their whim. Patriots can no longer criticize their government; democracy is something to be imposed and honesty has just been thrown out the window.

Apart from lying, manipulating and wreaking havoc with the economy of the US and the lives of people all around the globe, Bush’s behavior now, at the end of his mandate seems more pitiful than ever. What kind of person can spend 8 years in the position of president of the US without having learned. My sadness is not for the man so much as for all the young people in the US who see him passing the buck and who must think, consciously or not, that there is no such thing as personal responsibility; President Bush has shown this to be true.

It’s obvious these days Bush is scared spitless and with good reason.  Seriously, do you not believe that, if he sticks his neck out, someone will chop it off?  I hope the sooner the better and if the lunatics take out the whole family, it will hopefully serve as a warning.  Since Bush believes so deeply in capital punishment, he should accept this fate. No one should get away with what Bush has done to this country and it seems clear the Dems haven’t the stomach for real justice.  If he had an ounce of courage, or brains, he’d follow Seppuku.

So, a dumb GOP megalomaniac is stepping down from the heights of power (so we hope; he could still declare martial law, “postpone” the transfer of power and dissolve the Congress if Cheney tells him to in the next few days or weeks)—now, what if the man who replaces him turns out to be a smart, Democratic megalomaniac?

It’s not impossible. Power corrupts, y’know, and absolute power corrutps absolutely ...

Bush is far from the idiot many people take him for. He comes across as regular sort of guy, amiable, likeable in lots of ways. If one had some work to do repairing the fences on the ranch, you wouldn’t mind Geroge coming over to help out and share a cool beer. Only one wouldn’t touch on the subject of politics with him, and he’d probably be grateful for that too.

Whilst George might be good as a neighbour pitchin’ in, he simply doesn’t get politics, or economics, or sociology, at all. How did someone with all his advantages receive such a poor education? Surely it is the fault of his parents, didn’t they take the time to talk to him and give him consideration when he was a boy?

Blaming him for the mess of his presidency is unfair. He wasn’t alone in it. He was surrounded by far cleverer and more ruthless men, who used him to further their own agenda, an agenda it’s doubtful Bush understood the half of. He simply wasn’t qualified for the job. How did he ever get elected then? Surely the American political system bears a great deal of responsibility too for allowing a candidate of such modest abilities to succeed?

Is Bush smart enough to lie convincingly? It appears not. What’s really frightening about him is that he seems to honestly believe the things he says or has been told by the people around him. He isn’t particularly curious about the world either or interested in gaining knowlege or information from a variety of sources. He relies on his ‘gut’ and his instincts. He also seems to react very negatively to anyone who he thinks is talking down to him. If he doesn’t like someone he disregards what they are saying, even if it’s true and important.

All these personality traits make him an easy target for manipulation by his ‘friends’ who surround, protect, manipulate and ultimately control him.

Scary thought, Gene: Everything he did WAS intentional!
After all, they were planning the Iraq invasion before Bush was inaugurated.
Ashcroft had the 300+ page “Patriot Act” ready just weeks after 9-11

The “Ownership society” means you’re on your own, as in New Orleans. Plus, it was a DEMOCRATIC city in a state with a DEMOCRATIC governor.  Mississippi was a badly hit, but the governor is REPUBLICAN so even though things went as badly, not a word of criticism was against Haley Barbour.

Bush has followed his classic agenda: Public money that can be given to rich friends and corporations needs to be given to them. He did it as Governor with the U of Tex endowment fund, he did it with the Clinton budget surplus, he did it further tax cuts on capital gains, he did it with non-compete contracts in Iraq and Louisiana, he did it with Medicare, he TRIED to do it with Social Security, he did it with the current bailouts.

He has strongly restricted the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th and 14th Amendments, making criticism much more dangerous.

He may actually have been more successful at achieving his REAL agenda than we realized.  Of course, that REAL agenda was moving America from freedom to a modern feudal baronetcy, with socialism for the rich and the rest as slaves to be milked.

I’d say Bush has had one major failure, along with the GOP—their “permanent majority” strategy blew up in their faces with the reality that people don’t want to be slaves, to be poor, to have their children at risk of dying from war, natural disaster, being homeless or hunger. They don’t want their children to grow up with less expectations than their own.

Of course, what that means, is other than the 30% hard-core dupes, who all think THEY are going to be in the top .1%, the rest of us see just what a catastrophic screw-up Bush is and was.

The only thing worse he can do is come up with some pretense to “postpone” Obama’s inauguration and complete the job of making himself dictator.  I won’t believe he won’t until the moment Obama completes the Oath of Office is is officially the 44th President
