By Andy Borowitz

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who famously compared herself to a pit bull in her vice presidential acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, appears to have antagonized a key voting bloc in the upcoming election, the nation’s pit bull owners.

While Palin’s assertion that the only difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull was lipstick drew a loud ovation from the Republican faithful in St. Paul, it raised the ire of the Pit Bull Anti-Defamation League, a powerful association of pit bull fanciers who monitor the portrayal of pit bulls in the media.

“As someone who has owned pit bulls for the past 20 years, my jaw dropped,” said Carol Foyler, the group’s executive director. “Most of us are thinking the same thing: Enough is enough.”

Foyler said that for pit bull owners who have grown weary of their prized dogs being defamed and mistreated, Palin’s wisecrack was the last straw: “We’re all like, first the Michael Vick thing, and now this.”

Tracy Klugian, an irate pit bull owner from Buffalo, N.Y., echoed Foyler’s sentiments: “I can think of many differences between pit bulls and Gov. Palin—for starters, pit bulls don’t try to get their ex-brothers-in-law fired.”

With Sens. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and John McCain, R-Ariz., fighting for every last vote, a coveted voting bloc like pit bull owners could very well decide the 2008 election, political insiders believe.

Palin was not available for comment on the pit bull controversy, but a spokesperson for the McCain-Palin ticket offered this official statement: “Gov. Palin does in fact have one thing in common with a pit bull: Neither is capable of answering questions from reporters.”

Obama is “the head of the Democratic Party”, right? (That is what they keep saying) HE says that this stuff about palin (save maybe the stuff about her non-cooperation with an investigation into her cronyism) is “not helpful”. I still think (save a few PUMA) that most people will vote for the president more thant the Vice.

I thought Dems folowed the “head of their party ” in all things. Or, at least, it seems that way these days.

Its funny, the dumb stuff she says. I cant stand her. I’m not saying “stop it!” because it offends me. I’m not a GOP or a Dem. I just think it is unproductive and, quite, possibly harmful, to a campaign that has already been accused (whether yu agree or not is not impt. IN TERMS OF HIS GETTING ELECTED) of sexism. Stop taking the bait .

Former fed chairman Greenspan has said the country cannot afford McCain´s tax cuts for the super-wealthy.
After becoming Mayor of Wasilla Sarah Palin ordered police to charge rape victims (500 up to 1200 Dollars) for the medical exam. She will make abortion illegal even in the case of rape or incest.
She believes in the “end times” and has said that she´s expecting Jesus to return in her lifetime. Science tells us that The Nut Ball could be twice as old, i.e. 9 billion years-but only WITHOUT NUCLEAR WAR !!!
And McCain wants to destroy Social Security and make more wars. Palin said, “We may need to go to war with Russia”. That´s NOT an obtion ! May it be possible to survive McCain/Palin on La Palma, in the Andes, maybe in New Zealand ???

For the people who don’t think that Palin has anything to do with the Presidential race let me remind them that 7 times the VP has become the President. The VP should have to stand to the same qualifications as the President. Palin by no means succeeds at anything other than the fact it seems that she likes to replace as many government positions with friends and relatives as possible even tho they may have no experience. A Union Leader in LA has had to step down because he was doing the same thing, but that is different somehow.

McCain is the oldest and the man who has suffered the greatest debilitating medical conditions to ever run for the office of President. So, in this case, Sarah Palins experience and qualifications, if she has any, is legitimate cause for concern as is McCains judgement, or lack thereof. It is important to be diligent in this crucial race. But if Americans were really doing that, they would look to Ralph Nader who 8 years ago predicted the economic meltdown we are now experiencing. They would take the time to see that Nader’s platform encompasses the things Americans say they want but neither of the two opposing, and I use the term opposing jokingly, have on the table. They owe their souls to the Corporate Store.

If Americans were really engaged in their own self interests they would be laughing at the joke that is the candidates presented from the body with the lowest approval rating in history, Congress, and they would be looking for real outsiders not ones who have spent most of their life inside it and say they are somehow different. Vote your conscience. Not the lesser of two weevils!

Lipstick maybe not so bad. I made out with a horse once on a bet. It wasn’t so good, though. I say use the lipstick.

She’s a broken down suv away from being white trash!

Awe come on…don’t you see the satire it the article?  I mean Andy could have asked & answered the real question: What’s the difference between Palin and a pig with lipstick? The pig is wearing ruby red at 2 bucks a tube!

Aren’t these the people that imperil youth athletic activities by going ballistic on youngsters from opposing teams and referees?

Sarah Palin did not make up the comparrison you speak of. I have heard soccer moms and hockey moms compared to pit bulls with lipstick for several years. The only mistake she made was to give you people an excuse to complain - AGAIN.
