A Slap in the FacePosted on May 8, 2008WASHINGTON—From the beginning, Hillary Clinton has campaigned as if the Democratic nomination were hers by divine right. That’s why she is falling short—and that’s why she should be persuaded to quit now, rather than later, before her majestic sense of entitlement splits the party along racial lines. If that sounds harsh, look at the argument she made Wednesday, in an interview with USA Today, as to why she should be the nominee instead of Barack Obama. She cited an Associated Press article “that found how Senator Obama’s support ... among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again. I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on.” As a statement of fact, that’s debatable at best. As a rationale for why Democratic Party superdelegates should pick her over Obama, it’s a slap in the face to the party’s most loyal constituency—African-Americans—and a repudiation of principles the party claims to stand for. Here’s what she’s really saying to party leaders: There’s no way that white people are going to vote for the black guy. Come November, you’ll be sorry. How silly of me. I thought the Democratic Party believed in a colorblind America. In private conversations last year, several of Clinton’s high-profile African-American supporters made that same argument to me—that America wasn’t “ready” for a black president, that this simple fact doomed Obama to failure, that a Clinton Restoration was the best result that African-Americans could realistically hope for. Polls at the time showed Clinton leading Obama among black voters, a finding that reflected not only Clinton’s greater name recognition but also considerable skepticism about a black candidate’s ability to draw white support. Obama did prove he could win support from whites, of course, beginning in Iowa. He and Clinton effectively divided the party into demographic constituencies. Among the groups that have tended to vote for Clinton are white voters making less than $50,000 a year; among those who have turned out to vote for Obama are African-Americans, whose doubts about his prospects clearly have been allayed. Assuming that Obama is the eventual nominee, he will have some work to do in reuniting the party. But there’s no reason to think he won’t succeed—unless Clinton drives a wedge between important elements of the party’s historical coalition. Lower-income white Democrats may well defect to John McCain in the fall if Obama is the nominee, Clinton is arguing, whereas African-Americans—who have been choosing Obama by 9 to 1—are going to vote for the Democratic nominee no matter what. Thus, she claims, she can better knit the party back together. Let’s examine those premises. These are white Democrats we’re talking about, voters who generally share the party’s philosophy. So why would these Democrats refuse to vote for a nominee running on Democratic principles against a self-described conservative Republican? The answer, which Clinton implies but doesn’t quite come out and say, is that Obama is black—and that white people who are not wealthy are irredeemably racist. The other notion—that Clinton could position herself as some kind of Great White Hope and still expect African-American voters to give her their enthusiastic support in the fall—is just nuts. Obama has already won more Democratic primary contests; within a couple of weeks, he almost certainly will have won more pledged convention delegates and more of the popular vote as well. Only in Camp Clinton does anyone believe that his supporters will be happy if party leaders tell him, in effect, “Nice job, kid, but we can’t give you the nomination because, well, you’re black. White people might not like that.” Clinton’s sin isn’t racism, it’s arrogance. From the beginning, the Clinton campaign has refused to consider the possibility that Obama’s success was more than a fad. This was supposed to be Clinton’s year, and if Obama was winning primaries, there had to be some reason that had nothing to do with merit. It was because he was black, or because he had better slogans, or because he was a better public speaker, or because he was the media’s darling. This new business about white voters is just the latest story the Clinton campaign is telling itself about the usurper named Obama. “It’s still early,” Clinton said Wednesday, vowing to fight on. At some level, she seems to believe the nomination is hers. Somebody had better tell her the truth before she burns the house down. Re: George, May 10
What’s the matter..? You don’t like the LOSER your with? Sleazy...? Clinton invented the concept.
“Sean Hannity has called Obama’s church a “cult,” but that term applies far more aptly to Clinton’s “Family,” which is organized into “cells"--their term--and operates sex-segregated group homes for young people in northern Virginia.....
....The Family’s most visible activity is its blandly innocuous National Prayer Breakfast, held every February in Washington. But almost all its real work goes on behind the scenes--knitting together international networks of right-wing leaders, most of them ostensibly Christian. In the 1940s, The Family reached out to former and not-so-former Nazis, and its fascination with that exemplary leader, Adolf Hitler, has continued, along with ties to a whole bestiary of murderous thugs. As Sharlet reported in Harper’s in 2003”

“A tangled web of relations links the Stephens Group and Delta & Pine Land of Scott, Mississippi with another satellite in the agribusiness orbit of the influential Stephens Group. The Stephens Group is also linked intimately with Arkansas-based Tyson Foods, the US’ largest agribusiness processor of industrialized chicken meat, and arguably one of its most unsanitary ones....”
Mrs. Clinton, now a partner at the Rose Firm, begins a series of commodities trades under the guidance of Tyson Foods executive Jim Blair, earning nearly $100,000. (author’s emphasis). The trades are not revealed until March 1994.
November: Bill Clinton is elected Governor of Arkansas.
The Rose law firm was the house law firm of Jackson Stephens’ Stephens Group investment bank in Little Rock. To be the corporate law firm of the Stephens Group was no casual affair. It implied a deep trust relationship and perhaps more. As one crony of Jackson Stephens put it at that time, ‘Jackson Stephens? He’s the man who owns Arkansas.’
The head of the prestigious Rose law firm in Little Rock in those days was C. Joseph Giroir jr. In 1977 Giroir hired a young lawyer named Hillary Clinton to work for Rose. It was all one cozy Arkansas-Indonesia family back then.”
That land deal was focus of Congressional investigation of the Clintons. McDougal was loaned the money for the purchase by Tyson Foods counsel Jim Blair, the long-time Clinton friend and commodities adviser who in 1978 had ‘tutored’ Hillary in her fabulously successful commodities speculation. The loan by Tyson’s Jim Blair to McDougal was never repaid.
No sooner did Bill and Hillary Clinton move into the White House, and the Tyson Foods-approved Mike Espy took over as US Secretary of Agriculture, than Hillary’s former law partner, Joseph Giroir, set up a corporation”

Obama's Skeletons WILL come out,
Clinton keeps running because she knows Obama will be hounded by 527 ads about Rezko and all his sleazy connections. After researching Obama’s Chicago political ties, who he endorsed, his 2nd run for State Senate and how he manipulated the rules to run uncontested, his campaigning in Kenya for his cousin with a shady past and controversial platform, I cannot believe Obama has come this far. This site is titled Truthdig, but like 90% of the media, it has not done its homework. Why? Clinton has, and I feel her frustration, but the Republicans sit with anticipation just waiting for the moment to set loose the 527s. Democrats, we have only ourselves to blame, we keep searching for that “Kennedy” image in a candidate, fall for superficial and don’t want to know the truth.

Hillary threw the kitchen sink at Obama, but she never attacked him with the truth, so now the truth will come out, well it is about time.
Using the word truth with politicians is a joke, some were in front of integrity and honesty.
So now we will learn the truth from the Republicans. Thanks George you made the laugh of the day.

It is just shameful how the media reporters are saying things like, “She has to wait until maybe something happens in Obama’s life that Clinton can use against him.” That certainly sounds racist to me. She is also waiting for someone to take a pot shot at him. No, God is protecting him.
Vice-presidency? I am certain Obama won’t even want to look at her after the things she has said. She just doesn’t want to lose to a black man. Let’s just tell it like it is.
But if this is taken away from him by devious means, I will not vote for her and I certainly will not vote for the 100 year man. (Mind you, I didn’t say 100 year old man. I was talking about the war. Don’t put words in my mouth, McCain Camp. That’s what Obama should have told them!). I will just sit at home on election day.
As for McCain, do you know his mother’s maiden name is, of all things, “Wright”? Remind him of that Obama.

Is this really about the presidency at this
The Clintons can’t really believe that at this point, the superdelegates are going to decide in her favor against Obama. A decision like that would surely cause irreparable harm.
So what’s the point? Is it the vice presidency? These are my constituents and you need them. I think it is. I think it’s about her value, defining it, controlling it in exchange for something.

Racist remarks
If it Hilliary it is also McCain, he make a statement that he will be an American President, I am sorry I thought Hawaii was a state and that makes Obama an American who was born on American soil unlike McCain who was born in a Naval Hospital in Panama, he might just eat his words.
On Hillary being president I as a older white American was for her because it would be neat to have a first woman president, but not so, after Bill’s comment about Obama taking the state just like Jesse Jackson, Obama has taken up with the American people much more than Jesse, Jesse never held an office but Obama has had experience in his state legislature and the congress, I don’t really think that being first lady should count as experience because I doubt that she made any policy, and even though she is smart, she should have won Indiana by more than two points, because she has the whole family out compaigning for her.
To complain that Obama wins because he has mroe money, I wonder why he has more money, would it be because he offers something that Hillary does not?
Of course dropping out is not in the future not when there are some states out there, it would be wise if she did but she does not want to give up, makes one wonder if she has some dirt to dig up and if she digs up some dirt will it stick?

American soil..
For general information, U.S. Military Hospitals, Bases, Embassies, and PROTECTORATES, (Guam, Puerto Rico, Baker Island, American Samoa, Wake Island, Palmyra Atoll, Navassa Island, Midway Islands, Kingman Reef, and there is some loose connection with the Mariana Islands. When John McCain was born, the “Canal zone” was included. Folks entering the Incorporated United States from these places are processed through port security as “returning citizens” not immigrants. The Philippians were once a US protectorate, and a person still living in those islands, born when they were under US protection, and maintaining his/her US citizenship, would be eligible to run for the presidency, one of the few US offices barred to immigrants such as Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Taylor, I guess people have something against the peace and prosperity of the former administration; a nice surplus, no massive foreclosures, no war, health care. No one is perfect but I would rather go with a known then risk an unknown regardless of how elegantly a person professes. If Hillary was black, or purple it wouldn’t matter to me. She speaks to us and with us. The cover isn’t important, the inside is important. And incidently, she can beat McACain and that is why the republicans want Obama to win the Democratic election. That is why they are trying to kick Hillary out the door but she is demonstrating her strength and endurance and it is her right and responsibility with regard to the no regard of this administration and her intent to reverse the situations. Thanks Taylor.

I have heard that a rhino does not have very good eyesight. The past administration was not at peace, or perhaps you do not remember the bombings in Kosovo? Of for that matter, the weekly bombings in Iraq? That was cleverly called the “no fly zone” mission. And even though this has been said ad nauseam, it needs to be repeated: the at least, half million Iraqi children who died due to the US enforced embargo that prohibited even penicillin from being imported.
Reply to this | Report thisIt should also be noted that more black men went to prison under the Clinton administration than any other. The economic prosperity spoken of with such fond remembrance, was certainly true of those who flipped stocks during the dot com bubble, such as chief Clinton crime family money man Terry McAuliffe, who turned a one hundred thousand dollar investment in Global Crossing into 18 million dollars, getting out with the money before it was revealed that the company was a fiber optic fraud.

Part 1V
8. “Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness.” Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must be able to identify the “talented tenth” of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor’s control. Those so identified are separated from the rest of the people by: Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another. Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons. Seducing them into a socioeconomic class system which, while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of “we” and “they” instead of “us.” So, while it is permissible to chase “middleclassness” with all our might, we must avoid the third separation method - the psychological entrapment of Black “middleclassness.” If we avoid this snare, we will also diminish our “voluntary” contributions to methods A and B. And more importantly, Black people no longer will be deprived of their birthright: the leadership, resourcefulness and example of their own talented persons.”

Obama is trying steal the election ...
Obama and his supporters are trying to steal this election. Obama blocked efforts to revote in Michigan and Florida. 93% of blacks support Obama, however any comments regarding this fact, or mention of blue collar white workers for Clinton, is met with accusations of racism. Obama has taken the lead by outspending Hillary 2 or 3 to one, and his caucus wins don’t reflect a true lead in popular votes. In addition, early calls for Hillary to drop out show a ploy by Obama to circumvent the democratic process. As a result of all this, the less qualified candidate may end up as our leader ... what a shame.

Re: Obama is trying steal the election ...
Not only did Obama not block the revote, he has consistantly worked for a fair settlement. Recently the Michigan Dems proposed that a fair settlement based on the “primary” would be to give Clinton 69 delegates for the 60% she won and Obama 59 delegates for the “uncommitted” votes. The votes for other specified candidates would not go to either. Clinton rejected this plan. Obama accepted it. And I thought she wanted every vote to count. I guess she just wants the votes for her to count.

Obama didn’t block revote efforts in Michigan. The State Supreme Court and the State Senate blocked revote efforts in Michigan. Going through the voter rolls to decide who could, and who could not, revote was declared unconstitutional.

He recognizes Christianity’s prophetic tradition of speaking out against oppression (West 411, vol.
2) and notes Christianity’s focus on self fulfilment, a concept that is incompatible with any form of discrimination (West 420, vol. 2).
West is not an utopian and recognizes that sin and imperfection will exist, but believes that a revolution, likely an armed struggle, will lead to the establishment of a socialist society that he hopes will combine the best of the Marxist and Christian traditions (West 421-422, vol. 2)

The Black family circle must generate strength, stability and love, despite the uncertainty of externals, because these characteristics are required if the developing person is to withstand warping by our racist competitive society” and
4. “Dedication to the Pursuit of Education. We must forswear anti-intellectualism. Continued survival demands that each Black person be developed to the utmost of his/her mental potential despite the inadequacies of the formal education process. “Real education” fosters understanding of ourselves as well as every aspect of our environment. Also, it develops within us the ability to fashion concepts and tools for better utilization of our resources, and more effective solutions to our problems. Since the majority of Blacks have been denied such learning, Black Education must include elements that produce high school graduates with marketable skills, a trade or qualifications for apprenticeships, or proper preparation for college.”

Popular Vote and Satan Slaves
Jesus said,"The road is narrow and few will find it.” So, in America campaigning by divine right, is almost reliably going to get you voted down. Satan slaves in Amercia clearly outnumber, those who walk the narrow road, to the narrow gate.
Also, the more Hillary Clinton stands centered on the narrow road, the way Christ would, the more she gets publicly crucified. Making her a brave woman, however, unlikely to be selected in a popular election, by the Satan slave, American; majority.

Clinton Fighter fake news
related fake news
DON KING SIGNS HILLARY CLINTON TO FIGHT CONTRACT
At a press conference in New York today, fight promoter Don King announced that he had signed Senator Hillary Clinton to a three-year contract for a minimum of four headliner prize fights.
Questioned by reporters about this unprecedented signing, Mr. King declared that Senator Clinton is undoubtedly the strongest, most indomitable fighter in America today. She had been on the ropes and has come back many times. And she has that showtime spirit, like Ali, crowing often about what a remarkable fighter she is.
King claimed that Clinton has a quality shared by few other fighters, she will never give up or stop fighting. Mrs. Clinton will never even acknowledge that she is far behind on points, or even knocked out.
In scheduling fights, Mr. King notes that he will, in deference to her age, postpone contests with the likes of Laila Ali or Jacqui Frazier Lyde. He plans to find a way to have fights with the daughters of champions like Jack Dempsey or John L. Sullivan. Even with fighters as strong as Clinton, it is important to keep her from losing her bearings.

We got over race a long time ago
What legislators have to say:
Reply to this | Report thisWe are writing to you because of our shared belief in our Party’s principles and our commitment to ensuring that we have the strongest possible nominee to lead our ticket against John McCain and the Republicans in November.
The decision about who to support to be our Party’s nominee is not one that any of us should take lightly. We haven’t. But, after giving this important decision a great deal of thought, we are convinced that Hillary Clinton has the vision, skills and commitment to make the changes our country needs. As Democrats who have run and won in competitive Congressional districts and battleground states, we believe that Hillary is best positioned to successfully lead the Democratic ticket in districts and states like ours around the country.
As you know, Hillary has racked up victories in bellwether states like Ohio , Pennsylvania and now Indiana that are absolutely vital to winning the White House and maintaining our Congressional majority in the fall. Hillary has won the big battleground states by connecting with voters whose support we must have to win the general election. Her victories in Pennsylvania and Indiana were all the more impressive after being outspent by as much as two or three to one.
Pennsylvania was not just a victory for Hillary Clinton. It was also a wake- up call for superdelegates, forcing us to ask ourselves two essential questions: 1) Which candidate can carry the magic 270 electoral votes to win in the fall? 2) Which candidate is most likely to help our fellow Democrats in down-ballot races? We believe the answer to both of these questions is Hillary Clinton.
On the first question, Hillary has shown she can win the all-important battleground states like Ohio , Pennsylvania and Florida even while being outspent. This speaks to her ability to connect with voters we must deliver in the fall, including blue collar Democrats who can sway this election as they have in the past.
On the second question, Hillary has won rural and suburban districts which we as Democrats must carry to maintain our edge in Congress. Of the fifteen districts rated “toss up” by the Cook Political Report, Hillary has now won ten. Of the 20 districts we picked up in 2006 that had gone for President Bush just two years before, Hillary has now won 16. She is strong in the places we must win to hold and expand our majority.
This is a historically close race. The candidates are separated by a mere percentage point or two and the path to victory for each candidate is the same: win in the upcoming states and secure enough pledged and automatic delegates to get to the number required to win the nomination.
The race now turns to the remaining six contests where the focus will be squarely on the economy. Voters in our states and across the country are voting on issues that affect them, their communities and their children’s future. We believe that they will decide that Hillary is the candidate who best understands those issues and has the best solutions to address them.
We Democrats are justifiably proud of both of our candidates, and if Senator Obama is our Party’s nominee, we will enthusiastically support him. But our responsibility is not to choose simply to support the eventual nominee; it is to help select the nominee who is best for our party and best for our country. Our choice is clear: Hillary Clinton is that candidate. We believe she should be your choice as well.

Clinton is entirely unelectable
the hatred she inspires is crazy and as others have also pointed out the Clintons are more like neo-liberal neocons - Clinton ramped up Prohibition and put a hella lot of people in jail and encouraged the growth of the private prison industry while gutting welfare.
These “folks” are not progressive in any way shape or form - just window dressing.
Hearing here drawl while stumping Indiana was sickeningly disingenuous. Hello Mrs Walmart - we know what you stand for and it’s all bs - money for the rich and connected and damn everyone else.
But man we can sucker a whole lot of folks.
Guess what Bush/Clintons - it ain’t 1988 - the jig is up - the people that were fooled are no longer gullible - you sick and twisted race-baiting bi....well I guess maybe she’s just upholding that fine Dixiecrat tradition - instead of being embarrased she just wades deeper in it.
Obama Can!
Think I’ll design some t-shirts....

Rising above Race

>>...Obama is much more savvy politician, rising above race,...<<
How can that be when he was mentored and the confidant of the racist, hate group for twenty years? Was he actually so blind that he did not see what was in his face all those years? If so, he does not have the vision to be the president of our country. If he was a knowledgable supporter for those twenty years then he is either a dissociative personality or a false facade. I’m not betting with my country. Thank you.

Re: Rising above Race
Actually Rhino,
The organization that you’ve chosen to reference as a ‘hate group’ is actually a Church, and a very long established body at that. It is the United Church of Christ. The racial composition of its 1.4 million members and more than 6,000 congregations includes ALL races, but is 97% Anglo Saxon. Or, you might call it Caucasian, or in your case, you probably just refer to it as, ‘white like you’.
So, that makes your comment sort of on the order of a comment that some WHITE RACIST HATE GROUP member might say, and a pretty ignorant one at that.
Now it is true that the congregation at TRINITY United Church of Christ in Chicago, Il, happens to be a majority African-American congregation, and I would say that it is in part at least, due to the location of Trinity. Churches (of all denominations) have a tendency to draw their congregations from the communities where the church is located.
Anyway, I’m not a church goer myself, (at least not for several decades now) but my family and most of my friends and colleagues are, so I try to keep up to at least know what I’m talking about with the basics. I do that because there actually ARE a large number of RACIST HATE GROUPS that organize themselves under false premises of being a ‘church’. They are all varieties of hate groups, Neo-Nazis, Aryan Supremacists, White Trash Wannabe Supremacists, and I could go on. (but I won’t). So, it’s important to know the difference. Part of my own work involves keeping track of these various hate groups, (there are SO many it’s just a crying shame) so again, that’s why it’s good to know the difference.
Anyway, here’s a little bit more about the United Church of Christ. If you want to learn even more about the congregation at Trinity, (the one that Obama and his family attend), then I’ve included a link for you there as well. Knowledge is usually a good thing. Too bad more folks didn’t have that when they took such a huge risk with OUR country, by putting the Criminal Bush Regime in charge of the overthrow of our government. Who knows how long it will take to get it back.
If anybody can do it though, Barack Obama can.
• “Welcome to the United Church of Christ—a community of faith that seeks to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. The UCC was founded in 1957 as the union of several different Christian traditions: from the beginning of our history, we were a church that affirmed the ideal that Christians did not always have to agree to live together in communion. Our motto—"that they may all be one"—is Jesus’ prayer for the unity of the church. The UCC is one of the most diverse Christian churches in the United States. Use the directory on the left of this page to read stories about the history and future of our community.”
About the UCC
”Intelligent dialogue and a strong independent streak sometimes cause the United Church of Christ (UCC) and its 1.4 million members to be called a “heady and exasperating mix.” The UCC tends to be a mostly progressive denomination that unabashedly engages heart and mind. And yet, the UCC somehow manages to balance congregational autonomy with a strong commitment to unity among its nearly 6,000 congregations—despite wide differences among many local congregations on a variety of issues.”

Here’s more on the specific congregation at Trinity.

And then, if you’d like even more insight into the concepts that provide for the Black Liberation Theology, you can check out this piece on NPR
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=8 8552254
Once again, there ARE hate groups in America. This church isn’t one of them. Your own comment here should be thrown in the garbage pit of racist hate propaganda.
It serves no useful purpose, and actually creates the kind of environment that is very damaging.

I didn’t think in terms of white or black, but since you mention it, I don’t have to be white to vote for Hillary Clinton. Apparently you are refering to the entire group of United Churches of Christ. I am refering specifically to the United Trinity Church of Christ, the rantings of Reverend Wright.

No, my comment is based on the thorough reading of the church site and it’s promotions before the Reverend Wright rants were ever aired. An ignorant racist makes derogatory comments through their own inadequacies and, or as a hate monger for the selfish gain of money, power and control.

Well Cyrena we agree here!
Trinity Southside sponsors the local food pantry, offers landlord-tenant resolution services. Provides a meeting place for C.A.S.A., provides its facility (for free) to Alcoholics Anonymous. sponsors a safe-house for abused women and their children, offers free transportation to medical facilities for their old, a youth program for their young, a day-care facility, and prison counseling.
...and this was as of 1998, maybe they are doing more now.
I am an Atheist, but if I lived on Chicago’s southside I would attend Trinity… because Atheist comes second to “community action” and the the music is Out-o-sight!

Which one is really more "electable"?
I am a lifelong white Democrat, income under $30,000 per year. I initially supported Bill Richardson for president, but threw my support behind Obama when Richardson dropped out of the race before my state held its primary.
Hillary seems to forget that she would be facing the same uphill battle Obama would be facing in the fall if she were the nominee: the willingness of Americans to vote for a candidate who is not a white male. Where does she get the idea that America is more willing to accept a woman as president than a black?
The reason I didn’t throw my support behind Hillary when Richardson dropped out is because she carries too much baggage. From the day her husband took office the venom I heard from their detractors far surpassed anything I had ever heard voiced about a president (and spouse) of the opposing party. She is deluded if she thinks middle-of-the-road voters would flock to her over McCain. The Clintons’ problems didn’t start with the Monica Lewinsky scandal; the Republicans were looking for anything they could find (Whitewater, etc.) that would give them an excuse to impeach Bill Clinton. Also, Bill didn’t win either of his elections by much of a margin, and Hillary doesn’t possess the charisma that Bill possessed to get people to look past his personal flaws and narcissm.
On the other hand, while Obama isn’t without baggage of his own (Rev. Wright, for example), there isn’t a candidate anywhere that doesn’t have at least some baggage, and Obama has less than most. He also has more charisma. Charisma alone doesn’t make you a good leader, but it makes you more electable. Charisma was a major reason why Reagan won his elections by landslides.
I think America is ready to embrace a black or woman as president, if the candidate is the right person. Obama is the right black for the task; Hillary is not the right woman. How many current or former women governors are there in the U.S right now? One of them might be the right woman (Arizona governor Janet Napolitano, to cite one example), but it sure isn’t Hillary.

The Real Divide is the Neo Con DLC
‘Reagan Democrat’ is a misnomer and an Oxymoron. No such Beast ever lived amongst Real Dems in the’80’s- We hated Ronny’s Regime Too (Cheney, rummy, wolfie et al). Union busting, Corp Whores who allowed AIDs to become an Epidemic (nationally & Internationally).

Re: The Real Divide is the Neo Con
That is precisely why I will not vote for HRC no matter what. I am her demographic: female, white, Protestant, 60+ etc. She and the rest of the DLC are no longer Democrats, if they ever were. They don’t stand for the traditional Democratic values which includes all peoples especially minorities, the working folks, and the poor. This white American says that we need to “get over” the nonsense about Obama’s color and start working for the only hope we have right now.

I’m also an older white woman. I was an Edwards supporter. After Obama’s Philadelphia speech, I converted (and might have even if Edwards had not dropped out). If Hillary’s taking donations to get out, where do I send my money?

Re: The Real Divide is the Neo Con
Purple Girl, your comments reveal that we no longer have a true democratic party. I notice a lot of one time Clinton supporters are now reassessing their praise for the former president. The seeds of the party’s destruction were there from the beginning, with the “new kind of democrat”. It also should be remembered that Bill Clinton kept the embargo on Iraq in place, during his entire presidency. That brutal policy resulted in the deaths of at least a half million Iraqi children. A decision according to his Secretary of State, Madeline Albright, was “worth it”. Is it any surprise that Ms. Albright supports Hillary Clinton?
Reply to this | Report thisFDR was a man from wealth, but being struck down by polio, caused him to find empathy with his fellow humans. Thus the great tradition of the Democratic Party was born, especially at a time when concern for the human condition was paramount, and oddly, at the same time, saved the capitalist system in spite of itself. Contrast that with today’s Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, the richest person in all of congress, who, as one of her first legislative duties announced that the impeachment of George W. Bush was “off the table”.
It might be wise to put aside some of the rhetorical flourishes of Senator Obama, who borrows phrases from Dr. Martin Luther King, but never comes to acknowledge the hard truths the civil rights leader pointed out about US militarism and economic injustice.
The fight in the democratic party is about power, not so pure, and certainly not so simple. The Obama team is trying to wrest control of the party away from the likes of Terry McAuliffe and the Democratic Leadership Council. McAuliffe is an excellent example of a new kind of democrat. He is a chap who invested 100k in Global Crossing and was able to roll that into 18 million dollars until it was discovered that the enterprise was a fiber optic fraud. He also received $37500. “contingency fee” from Prudential Insurance, while working as a Clinton fund raiser. A walk between the raindrops creep if ever there was one!
It is obvious to me, of the so called big three candidates, Obama is the one with the most character. But he has made way to many concessions to these slime devils. If he still believes he can appeal to their better angels of conscience, he is sorely mistaken. The Clinton crime family and its machinery only cares about themselves.

The Audacity of Hope
You know, Obama makes me question whether or not I’m a bigot, I will not lie.
Because, I believed for the longest time, just like Hillary did...Obama may squeak past and become the nominee, but there’s no way white America will elect a black man to be President of the USA.
Quite frankly, my every day experiences with white folks is my basis for this. But lately...I don’t know. It seems that if you’re looking for racism you’ll find it and the flip side of that is true is well...if you look for a way to get along with folks...well you’ll find that too. White people say that all the time...black folks look for racism- that may be true but honestly, we don’t have to look too hard. I just wonder… if maybe we’re all not looking in the right direction.
I’m going to dig deep in the coming days and maybe work on believing just a bit more in white America. That there a lot of white people who are tired of being trapped into the self destructive pattern of hating non-whites. That maybe, just maybe, there are more white people who are willing to work together to fix our country than there are those who would see us all sink rather than admit that bigotry, racism and discrimination are pointless.
It’s one thing to live and work with white people. It’s quite another to actually believe in large groups of white people, millions and millions of white people willing to change...not just themselves, but the way our country is heading.
It’s the kind of Hope with a capital H Obama says we can believe in. The kind of hope that makes my heart race and makes me smile. The kind of hope that can also make my heart bleed if dashed.
We’re not just talking about Hope. We’re talking about Trust. That’s going to be much harder to accomplish.
Yes We Can? We’ll see.
