The battle at home:  Rep. Dennis Kucinich announces his reelection bid for his Congressional seat at Cleveland’s Laborer’s International Union hall on Jan.9.

By Rep. Dennis Kucinich

Cleveland, Ohio, a city which represents all of the challenges and potential of the American economy, is rightfully the focal point of the Ohio Democratic presidential primary on March 4. The candidate who can deliver an economic platform with solid programmatic initiatives for jobs, health care, education and retirement security can win the state and be on the path to the nomination. Of course, I am no longer a candidate for president. When I was continually locked out of presidential debates, it became apparent that there was no chance. At the same time, labor in Cleveland asked me to come back and defend the 10th District congressional seat.
The FEC [Federal Election Commission] reports released last week show that in the Democratic primary, I am currently being outspent by a margin of 5-1.
Corporate Cleveland has organized its considerable resources behind a candidate who has had a three-week television campaign of a “Swift-boat”-type distortion of my record. I have always felt that the seat never belonged to me, but belongs to working men and women and their families, who are entitled to representation in the Congress, especially given the corporate domination of both political parties.
It is particularly ironic to see the same Cleveland corporate development interests at work trying to take a congressional seat for their own profit, when 30 years ago they used their power to send the city of Cleveland into default over $15 million and then used the default to defeat my reelection bid as mayor! This $15-million default is now dwarfed by the handouts given to each of the same interests by the current city government. Back to the future!
What happens in Cleveland is, of course, relevant to the entire nation. Somewhere, somehow people have to win a victory over corporate control and corporate greed. Cleveland is a great place to begin. And this election is a perfect time to start.

In reply to complaints about DK:

1) “Kucinich is no longer important”. He is very revelent, as seen by this weeks’ comments on Alex Jones’ show revealing the 911 investigations. It appears that a Cleveland Congressman must interevene to help NYC First Responders who are sick from the poisonous effects of the “911” dust. Even the health of firemen and police is too controversial a subject for their local Congresspersons, because to do so means opening up the question of the 911 Commission lying and hiding the truth, and anyone that takes this on will likely be sanctioned. They are apparently so frightened of ANYTHING to do with the subject of 911, that they refuse to help these people. Since Kucinich is already being attacked for his honesty and desire for truth, he is very effective in this role: As a Congressman that actually owns a set.

The fact that the controlled mainstream media blacklisted him and blackballed him from Debates proves he is one of their greatest, most dangerous enemies: They would not risk the blatant and obvious silencing if he was not a serious danger to them. Why? Because he is willing to speak truth.

2) “Kucinich is not effective as a lawmaker”. This lie comes straight from the Cimperman campaign. DK is extremely effective as a source of constant pressure for change, as one who refuses to accept the usual party line of lies and inaction. Without him and a handful of others in Congress, the charade of the Democrat leadership would have gone even further, the lies increased, the corruption and subservience to the Bush administration even more craven than now (as proof, look to the Senate: Since the death of Paul Wellstone, they no longer even pretend and rubber stamp nearly everything).

Universal not-for-profit healthcare will not be passed without years more of hard work: Without people like Kucinich, it has no hope of ever being passed. But they yell that he has not garnered pork. What a joke, we are fighting for our Liberty, our Freedom, our Nation here… Not sticking our head in the sand and aiming to get another overpass on Rte. #71 as a trade for voting for more weapons systems. So they sugest he should instead be just another go-along, get-along yes-man; in the pocket of corrupt interests like the vast majority of those in Washington. No… Kucinich is effective just by being Kucinich; and God bless him for standing up for the people’s rights.

3) “Kucinich is a Grandstander”. This one has absolutely nothing to back it with. Every issue DK works for, every stance taken, every single time he speaks out… There are vital and compelling reasons for doing so. Since so few Congresspeople have the courage to take on most of these topics, some may be confusing unprecedented boldness with “sensationalism”. WE, Progressives all over the country, ask, even BEG Dennis to take on these dangerous issues, and he has not profited from it: Look at him now, forced out of the Presidential race by an unholy alliance of the Democratic leadership and big business to try and take away his Congressional seat. Look around you: There are millions who want Impeachment. There are millions who want to end the war immediately, stop the next wars from happening. Is it “grandstanding” to work for this? No, it is trying to do our part for a better world… Despite the dangers of bucking a system intent on destroying all dissention. Some of the people here ought to try it themselves, it can be very rewarding (...however it requires courage). But if you won’t help us take back our country; then at least get out of the way.

Meanwhile , big money suckers in Cleveland voters. Maybe?
...
Help keep Ohio’s 10th Congressional District in Progressive HandsCleveland’s movers and shakers have thrown their support by sitting Ward 13 councilman Joe Cimperman, a corporate-owned politician.  His argument for running is based in part on the most ludicrous of claims: that a sitting elected official ought not to spend taxpayer time and money running for another elected office.  But that is precisely what Cimperman is doing.  Furthermore, he is running on a patently false claim that Kucinich has missed more votes than almost any other member of Congress.

The truth, however, is not on Cimperman’s side.  According to GovTrack.us:

Kucinich asks feds to investigate Cimperman; Updated with video
January 17, 2008 07:25AM

Cleveland Councilman Joe Cimperman hoped to get noticed by showing up with a camera-toting campaign worker two weeks ago at the Lakewood congressional office of his rival, Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

Instead, Cimperman got the unwanted attention of federal authorities, who questioned him this week about the visit.

Kucinich, who is trying to defend his seat against Cimperman and three other Democrats in the March 4 primary, asked a federal agency to investigate the camera stunt, saying it broke federal law.

Kucinich made the request after Cimperman delivered a “missing” poster to his office on Jan. 3. Cimperman was mocking Kucinich for campaigning for president around the country.

He tacked posters featuring pictures of Kucinich to poles near his Detroit Avenue office. They said: “Last seen: Iowa and New Hampshire - anywhere but Northeast Ohio.”

Cimperman entered Kucinich’s office while a campaign worker taped him dropping off one of the posters at the front desk.

“I walked in, asked for Dennis, dropped off the poster and walked out, all in one big motion,” Cimperman said. “I was polite and in there 20 seconds.”

But Kucinich, who is seeking a seventh term to Congress while aggressively running for president, believed the incident violated the privacy of constituents visiting his office.

“The people must have some assurances that their government does not allow individuals to enter the premises and film them while they are seeking federal assistance,” Kucinich’s office wrote in a letter to the Federal Protective Service. An agency under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, it has law enforcement jurisdiction over government offices.

The letter, written by Kucinich’s senior counsel, Martin Gelfand, said Cimperman was accompanied by a “camera crew” and tried to “interrogate” a staff member.

Gelfand sent the letter with Kucinich’s approval five days after Cimperman’s visit.

Cimperman broke federal law and “damaged the relationship with constituents,” Gelfand said in an interview.

He said that federal authorities - not Kucinich - decided that the incident was serious enough to warrant an investigation.

Cimperman said a federal agent from Homeland Security interviewed him and his campaign staff on Tuesday and warned him that cameras are not allowed in the government offices without permission. Cimperman described Kucinich’s reaction to his Jan. 3 visit as “an absurd waste of taxpayers’ dollars.”

“The Department of Homeland Security has plenty to do without wasting time talking to me,” he said.

Cimperman posted a video of his visit on the Internet. No constituents are seen in the video.

In the past, Kucinich has called on the government to rein in its police powers.

In a 2006 speech opposing the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act, which gives the government broad powers to investigate suspected terrorists, Kucinich railed against government intrusion.

“History tells us that unchecked police powers with little or no oversight will be abused and the citizens will be harmed,” he said. “I am for police function that protects citizens of this great nation, not a police function that is used to terrorize them.”

Plain Dealer Reporter Sabrina Eaton contributed to this report.

“What major piece of lege did he shepherd through?

I’ll concede that a quick search reveals no “Major” legislation sponsored soley by Dennis becoming law.A quick search does show that in the 105th congress Kucinich did successfully sponsor into law house bill
4083. A “minor” piece of legislation but law none the less.  Kucinich also has multiple successful amendments to legislation that have become law. He has also co-sponsored partisan and bi-partisan legislation as well.
Purporting that he has achieved “NOTHING!” is asinine and you know it.  Passing law is not the sole benchmark on ANY congress persons achievements and I say respectively your naive to hold this opinion.  Spend some time in the Thomas Jefferson online library and you will see substantial and AMAZING examples of progressive legislation that you claim you would support that has made it to or is sitting in the laps of our right leaning committees and sub-committees. All authored by Kucinich. Some with large co-sponsorship and some with minimal.  How many letters have you written to congress DEMANDING that they support the “ineffectual” legislation that Kucinich has proposed?  You say that you support over 95% of what he “says” but do you fight to show the conservative congress that Kucinich is not a lone progressive candle in the dark?

You know, mostly I really like what Bob Scheer writes, and his stands.  But, let’s not glorify him for giving Kucinich space on TruthDig.  I ask you (and I asked him), where was the coverage of Dennis Kucinich when it mattered?  Why was there no space given to him to write about his plans for the country when he was running for president?  It wasn’t here, it wasn’t at HuffPo.  Kucinich was non-existent.  I was regularly looking for the coverage.  The first thing Mr. Scheer bothered to cover was Dennis leaving the race.  He was as bad as all the other mainstream liberal blogs.  So, while I appreciate him on many other levels, he has failed us, and his friend Dennis here.  And, that’s the truth.

I never stated that this country had a perfect history or that the experience of immigrants was an easy one . We are all children of immigrants (except native Americans)and we all have our dark family stories passed down to us of what a difficult experience immigration and naturalization was .
Your Statement - ” BUT when the Germans, Irish, Jews, and Italians arrived on these shores they were discriminated against, forced to work for slave wages, and occasionally killed, leaving their families to starve.” - rings hollow and insensative - slave wages ? - slaves were not paid employees - occasionally killed ?? - yes and a handfull of Native Americans and Black Slaves were occasionally killed .

I am a White American Male , something I find no pride in because in my heart I know that this world and this nation would be better off if all White males were eliminated from this EARTH . You have proven my point: You couldn’t cite ONE piece of legislation that Kucinich authored through to Law, or even passed in the House.

I don’t expect a Rep to get EVERYTHING he/she proposes passed, but I do expect in all the years DK has been there to get ONE thing done.

It’s not a “conspiracy”. It’s a failure to understand how a legislature works. Just because you think something’s a great idea doesn’t mean the next guy over does, and he may have HIS “great idea” that YOU don’t think much of.  DK never learned that if you’re starving, getting half the loaf will keep you from dying.

So he said a lot of great stuff, and a lot of private orgs honored him….

But

He still has achieved NOTHING as a Congressman.

With all due respect Gabir, you sound like a Ron Reagan Campaign commercial.

Which puts me in mind of a funny line John Travolta used.  He was speaking of his comeback in the nineties and was telling of a time when work was difficult to find. He went to his agent and said: “Jeeze, when I was a kid in the Breakfast Club, and on Welcome Back Kotter, everyone loved me, and now I can’t even get an advertisement… I’m a bum!”.

The agent replied: “John, you were not that good then, and you are not that bad now.”

The USA has been a “beacon” of hope with a failed promise lately.  BUT when the Germans, Irish, Jews, and Italians arrived on these shores they were discriminated against, forced to work for slave wages, and occasionally killed, leaving their families to starve. They didn’t call it “hell’s kitchen” because life was easy.

Ah , the American obsession of looking backwards while attempting to move forward . Dennis was - was - and is no longer a candidate for the Presidency . Yet people linger and hope for something that will never materialize . We must cut through the denial and the hero worship . Even if Mr. Kucinich became President , he could not single handedly solve all of this nations problems and undo one tenth of the damage ‘GreaseMonkey’ Bush has done under the “hood” of this great machine that used to be “America” , not only to it’s citizens , but to people of all nations - a beacon of hope .
We must hope for the best - but expect the worst from Washington , D.C. . As long as the American People buy into this “Democratic ” system , this country will continue to slide . As bad as George Bush and Dick Cheney have been , we can expect worse in the future . After all , they survived two terms of total incompetence . The Democrats want us to hope and the Republicans want us to fear . Bleakness from both sides and no substance .

Inherit the wind, since you wont do your own homework I’ll do it for you.  This snippet is taken from http://www.kucinich.us ;

” U.S. Congress

Since being elected to Congress in 1996, Kucinich has been a tireless advocate for workers’ rights, civil rights and human rights.

He has authored and co-sponsored legislation to create a national, not-for-profit health care system, preserve Social Security, lower the costs of prescription drugs, provide economic development through infrastructure improvements, abolish the death penalty, provide universal pre-kindergarten to all 3, 4, and 5 year olds, create a Department of Peace, regulate genetically engineered foods, repeal the USA PATRIOT Act, and provide tax relief to working class families. He has also opposed trade policies that resulted in the out-sourcing of millions of U.S. manufacturing jobs. And, he has also introduced legislation to begin impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney to investigate his role in providing false and misleading information to the Congress and to the American people leading up to the invasion of Iraq.

Kucinich is widely regarded as the most vocal opponent of the Iraq War in the U.S. Congress. In 2002, when the Administration was pushing for a resolution of authorization to proceed with military intervention, Kucinich rallied 125 member of the House to vote against the authorization measure. He has voted against every war funding authorization bill since, and he is the author of legislation to end the war, withdraw all U.S. forces, and turn security and peace-keeping responsibilities over to a multi-national force that includes representatives from countries in the region.
In his Congressional District, which includes parts of Cleveland and several western and southern suburban communities, Kucinich has been recognized by the Greater Cleveland AFL-CIO as a tireless advocate for the social and economic interests of his constituents.
Kucinich led the effort to save Cleveland’s 90 year-old steel industry and the thousands of jobs and retiree benefits it provides. While hundreds of community hospitals have been closed throughout the country, Kucinich led a community-based effort to reopen two Cleveland neighborhood hospitals.

He also worked with the nation’s largest railroads to create a merger agreement that improved rail safety while diverting a heavy volume of train traffic away from heavily populated residential areas of his district. Kucinich has also been a strong advocate for preserving and expanding the critical the role of the NASA Glenn Research Center, which is in his district.

For those efforts and others, he has been honored by the Cleveland AFL-CIO, the Ohio PTA, the NASA Glenn Research Center, the Salvation Army, the United States Post Office, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, Ohio’s Boys Town, and the Human Rights Campaign.

Nationally, he has received similar honors and accolades from Public Citizen, the Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth and the League of Conservation Voters as a champion of clean air, clean water and an unspoiled earth. Kucinich has twice been an official United States delegate to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (1998, 2004) and attend the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He currently serves as Chairman of the Domestic Policy subcommittee in the U.S. House of Representatives.”

The point that some of these actions died in the halls of Congress shows us how far to the right this country has swayed. We have mouth breathing knuckle dragger’s in their like Lieberman et al. calling themselves liberals.
Good luck getting them to vote with you.  A candle in the darkness may not light the whole room but at least I am close enough to see it.

I would vote for Kicinich even if he decided to go on to Independent and if not I would vote Ron Paul even if he went Independent. But that is neither here nor there so to speak because I agree wholeheartedly with you voting for DK over any repub who may not be incompetent but are very very criminal and that takes some smarts and nerve to pull off the crap they continually dish out. And what gets me is that nothing is happening to take the criminals down, no oversight, no investigations(at best very few but was a great way to handle cunningham & delay)and that spells bad news for the future. Then it comes down to waiting. Waiting until November to see who wins the prize. But it will not be enough just to get a democrat or independent elected at president, it will take a massive vote out of well entrenched incmubents to even think about turning this government and country around. I cannot say strongly enough that that will happen.

Yes, it’s true about the L.A. Times, if they devoted as much time to news as they did to advertizing then maybe they could keep from going under.

But it’s obvious that the focus shifted at some point from news to entertainment.

The surest way to destroy a highly functioning company is for them to be taken over by some corporate giant.

Every time I get attached to something that an inovative company is making or producing, it doesn’t take long until some corporate octopus buys it, and eats it down to the bone, and like the bone, only the name remains to be tossed out with the trash.

You’re right cyclezealot…about all of this stuff.

And, you’re right about the L.A. Times as well, which is unfortunate, since it is my own ‘hometown’ newspaper, and has been an excellent paper for most of it’s history.

However, they have gradually come under the corporate hammer that will be their undoing, not unlike so many ‘used to be’ excellent entities, regardless of the ‘product’ being marketed. This has occurred across the board, in ALL industries. The consumer loses out, and eventually, the corporation does as well. Witness the failure of so many corporate entities within my own former industry…commercial aviation. How many of these airlines have gone bankrupt in the past several years? I mean they’re still operating, but not so well, and the consumer takes the hit. (or the taxpayers bail them out0.

Such as it’s become with the LA Times, as their editor was recently canned because he refused to lay off a bunch of employees, which of course the corporate bottom line demanded. So, now he’s gone as well. Such is the fate of truthtellers and/or whistleblowers, or anyone who rebels against the corporate rape.

I didn’t know that Dennis Kucinich was himself a journalist by trade and education. I’m not surprised, and I’m glad to know that there are still some professionals left. Any glance through the main stream media these days would leave us wondering.

Kucinich has been as ineffectual a congressman as there is. Even my own, a Re-thuglican ditto-head do-nothing who wouldn’t stand out in a crowd of 2 gets more done.  Kucinich would make a fine political columnist, a la Frank Rich.  He’s a critic, not a doer.  He belongs Op-Ed, not on the ballot.

“Before the Nevada primary, Dennis [Kucinich] was visited by representatives of Nancy Pelosi and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee — AIPAC”
They told Dennis that if he would drop his campaigns to impeach Cheney and Bush, they would guarantee his re-election to the House of Representatives.

Kucinich threw them out of his office.

We don’t know what to do with candidates like Dennis Kuchinich who refuse to sugar coat the issues facing us today. We will only elect those Democrat’s who take positions that won’t scare the bejesus out of Wall Street and the Fortune 500. Universal health care just won’t cut it, as it would mean the end of health insurers in this country. Dennis Kuchinich is the real “straight talk express” only we don’t want to hear the message. We want to believe that things are just great for the most part and we are only going through a bad patch, that America will somehow stumble along, and it’s really ok if we leave our troops in Iraq for the next hundred years. We will miss you Dennis. You were right on the issues but that is not what America is looking for right now. Besides you were honest enough to say you saw a UFO, and other than X File fans, the rest of the country now thinks you have a screw lose like Howard Dean who really doesn’t.

I have tremendous respect for Dennis Kucinich as a principaled and courageous individual. I wish he had had a real shot at being nominated for the Presidency. Of all the candidates running, I thought he had the best all-around platform. He definitely has been one of the very few democrats who have shown any willingness to stand up to Bush/Cheney and the rest of the Dark Empire. But… I think he is now facing the consequences of not paying enough attention to his political base in Cleveland. The commments being posted by individuals mostly appear to fall into two categories: 1) those who praise him for his national stands, and 2) those who critisize him for not doing enought/anything for Cleveland. Telling to me is that there are almost no comments about how he should be relected by Cleveland for what he has done for Cleveland.

No one speaks to what ails American urban woes like Nafta. Democrats have sold us out. But, not Kucinich. He did all he can to protect Nafta. Hightower would agree. Here’s the reason.

The 1994 imposition of NAFTA was particularly devastating. Just as Bill Clinton and the corporate elites did here, Mexico’s ruling elites touted NAFTA as a magic elixir that would generate growth, create jobs, raise wages and eliminate the surge of Mexican migrants into the United States. They were horribly wrong:

Economic growth in Mexico has been anemic since ‘94, and the benefits of any growth have gone overwhelmingly to the wealthiest families.

Since NAFTA, Mexico has created less than a third of the millions of decent jobs it needs
***
It’s this economic fragility that anti-immigrant forces play on. But even if there were no illegal workers in our country - none - the fragility would remain, for poor Mexican laborers are not the ones who:

Downsized and offshored our middle-class jobs.

Perverted our bankruptcy laws to let corporations abrogate their union contracts.

Stopped enforcement of America’s wage and hour laws.

Perverted the National Labor Relations Board into an anti-worker tool for corporations.

It’s a fantastic comment.

One thing;  If you want to win this, it can’t be fought in the sky.  It is a land acquisition fight, and if you try to make it about types of people that live everywhere, you WILL lose the places being specifically targeted: Urban Centers.

If we sit around firing arrows into the sky, we will lose urban centers for decades.  We’ll be weaker in urban centers than we are in the south, if, even after the bridge in MPLS and Katrina’s ninth ward cant open the Dems eyes to what the “Ownership Society” means when they wage a “Culture war” against urban America…  Hope when they come for others communities they have friends with more spine than us “Vote Warehouses” who built the suburbs.

When everyhone’s against you, it’s impossible to get anything done.  What is at work here is that working class Americans don’t understand that they are swimming against a huge, corporate driven current, making any real economic progress in their own lives impossible and improbable.

It’s rather like a growth on your skin that has grown huge but you have had it so long you forget how small it was in the beginning. Unless there’s pain, you accept it.  Working class people attempt to offset this assault on their economic well-being by working longer and harder for less.

I don’t think Americans see DK as incompetent, rather, they’ve been long conditioned to believe that THIS IS THE WAY IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE; WE’RE ONLY WORKING CLASS PEOPLE.  WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT?  So when someone tries to point out the absurdity in our thinking, that person is thought of as an incompetent.  People don’t like being told they’re being taken.
As a professionally trained, really hard-working middle class American, I resent that I am continually disillusioned by my government who’s job it is, I believe, to safeguard my constitutional rights and to not impede my ability to care for my family and make some small amount of headway in my struggle to improve my life.

If the administration and congress treated the worker with the same regard they treat corporations, the picture for us would be vastly improved.  What is reasonable for a working class person to expect to yield from his toil?  A house, a car, enough food, a night out, healthcare, clothes, a college education, a week out of town for the family?  I think we’ve been taught by our gov. to expect less and less but to continue to work hard.  And, we do that.

I think people who disregard or dismiss the DK’s make a huge mistake.

The worst that could happen, though, is that things will get worse for workers, and that’s no different from what we’ve long been used to and conditioned to accept.  Obama and Hillary will prove themselves to be no more effective in bettering the plight of the worker than DK nayers say his ilk are because this is the way it’s supposed to be.

Corporations have no conscience. Their only motivation is money. Dennis knows that NAFTA is killing American jobs. Dennis also knows that the crimes Bush and Cheney have committed has not only killed Americans but has shrunk the dollar considerably and that has alot to do with Cleveland’s and US cities bigger problems. Dennis has almost stood alone fighting back at these crimes and the media who are profitting from war are doing a hit job on anybody who fights them. Those of you who believe the mainstream US media don’t know how far they’ve gone to destroy our country via Reagan to Cheney. The middle class is shooting itself in the foot by letting Kucinich go.

Not that Suburbanites give a moldy shit what happens in urban America (Witness Katrina and aftermath), but this is urban politics.
We are run by giant Corporations who have done all the Demographics and understand that there worst enemies are the urban communities which they haven’t absolutely destroyed.  They pick a weak, barely surviving neighborhood and decide it needs a road, or it needs to lose the public school or something that holds the weak together, then they magic things to celebrity status (even if it’s just an old lady trying not to get hit with eminent domain) and suddenly they can do whatever they want.

As long as the shit doesn’t come into wealthy neighborhoods, the suburbs don’t give a damn.  In fact, it does.  Believing it won’t, is like believing that if you feed a pet, it won’t grow.  Most of urban blight is loss of decent jobs, by eliminating the people who both live AND work in their community.  As long as suburbanites keep feeding the giants, the giants will continue to grow, and THAT is what causes urban blight and sprawl…  Not illegals.  Urban areas used to be able to accept the poor and the less fortunate because of good people who owned their future in their business.  Not any more.  It’s all “Foreign”...  Meaning people who live in the “OTHER America.”  People who don’t live in cities, and just don’t care.  the worse they make our neighborhoods, the more desperate the residents, the better for the employers.  It ain’t a mistake.

So, if you still think the “Culture War” is victimless, come live in the cities, where it’s being fought.  The culture we are supposed to have is being built in NO…

“The reason Dennis Kucinich didn’t connect with ‘America’ (sic) is because America (sic) knows he’s an incompetent”

By that logic, he should be president as we have elected a series of incompetents back to (at least) the Nixon administration.

Once back when, I was an active drunk… Got my first bottle before 9AM, and had my last drink before I put my head on a pillow.  I pissed away money, friends, and youth doing something I KNEW was bad for me ... but I NEVER listened to folks who had my well-being at heart, BECAUSE they were all telling me to slow down, or stop my drinking…. something that although it would benefit me in the long run, would be hard, mess up (what I thought was) my social life, and leave a whole in my being.

Kucinich is saying things people don’t want to hear. Ted Kennedy said some of those things in 1980, as did John Anderson (remember the .50 fuel tax?) Mondale said some of the same things in 84 (alternative energy restricted vehicle use, and repairs to infrastructure.) Dukakis said we needed to cut back on our spending and shore up regulations concerning banks and financial services institutions (Remember Drexel-Burnham, the 87 stock-dive, and Mike Milliken?)  Then Ross Perot warned us against NAFTA, not once, but over and over… He even “drew us a picture” and described the “Great sucking sound” as jobs went south… We elected Bill(Nafta-boy) Clinton. So it goes.  We (like an alcoholic) beat up the messenger, and continue down the path of destruction.

EVENTUALLY we will get national Health Insurance that is in truth benefitial for companies like Ford and GM. Someday we will ween ourselves off the cheap Chinese goods sold by WALMART TARGET AND COSCO. Someday we will burn Hydrogen (NOT FUEL CELLS) in our cars, and make our forests green again, someday we may even limit our out-of-control population growth knowing that we simply can’t support this many people… Someday…but not this election….just one more drink!

Espeically if your living in a dream world.

It’s going to be hard for the American people to realize that the dream is over.

The manipulations that they used to prop up the standard of living are gone, and since this crisis has been building since the 70’s the recession we’re heading toward is likely to be a depression.

How did we do it, how did we keep pretending to be on solid ground all these years? By having two incomes, by using our home equity to get needed cash, by carrying lots of credit card debt, by working longer hours, by filing for bankrupcy, and by claiming exempt on our taxes.

But reforms in the last few years, pushed through by the corporations and signed into law by Curious George, have turned out to be as much of a disaster for them, as us. Simply because they made twice as much money off bad debt as they did off those that paid their bills on time.

What’s happening now is a falling standard of living, not a recession.

And nobody wants to hear that.

Because the American dream for many was the hope that no matter how bad things are right now, that it would be ok in the future, because some day you would be rich.

Without that hope, you might as well be a commie.

Mostly good points doc, except for the fact that you (like so many others) have decided that all of the candidates are the same, (as ITW suggests) but because he was telling the truth, -exposing it actually- and that takes some guts to stand one’s ground, knowing that at some point down the road, he will be able to say, “I told you so”.

Now of course that’s if he wants to. I’m sure he’ll find no joy in that, anymore than I find any such ‘happiness of revenge’ in the truth of your words here…Middle America has taken a very long time to wake up.

But, I think it’s happening, based on the current success of Obama’s campaign, as he as seen as rejecting the very things that have brought us to such decline, including the ignorance of Americans.

So, while I admit to a sense of the same desperation that Americans have failed to listen for so long now, I do believe they are wising up, and willing to reject that OLD status quo, that has ruined us.

Nader said that he would run if Hillary won the nomination. I’m not much for religion, but I pray that doesn’t happen, (that Hillary would win). I don’t know that Nadar would run if Obama wins the election. He hasn’t said that, and I would hope not, because there’s no need to divide the party and do any more damage than has been done already, especially by the Corporate Clintons.

Meantime, if Dennis K can hang in there for long enough, I’m sure he’ll have a spot in an Obama administration, if he wants it.

All the real People who are engaged in the act of the democratic process know exactly what happened and none of them are people like you. You belong to the class of never weres.

You are part of the problem. You let the corporate shills convince you that Dennis can’t win and you buy it, you blame him and then you will vote for one of their people and get screwed but the guy how warned you that that was about to happen to you, why, it’s all his fault. Only stupid people let corporations drive them into default when the person who was right about it all along gets pushed out of office. You are another one of the slow learners. You are the intellectually and politically challenged fools that can’t figure out where their own best interests lay.

Dennis Kucinich transcends being a “Democrat”! He is a good and thoughtful person who wants to protect Ameicans from what is happening to them. The fact that you can’t see the conspiracy proves his point. Idiots like you don’t deserve him representing you. The Democan’ts haven’t protected you and will continue to sell you and anything else they can because they know fools when they see them.

Kucinich should take the same path Al Gore has taken. Gore knows how stupid and fickle people are and realizes that one has to sell ones soul to become President, or any other elected office for that matter, and then they get to represent fools like you! That Kucinich has managed to keep his principles and ethics all the while doing the People’s business speaks how good he is at what he does. And you see that as being incompetent. What a sad little person you must be!

The reason people didn’t get to connect with Congressman Kucinich is because the powers that be (the corporatist)decided that he should not. For the Corporatist, if Congressman Kucinich speaks out against war and they’re profits are derived primarily from war (G.E., Halliburton, Big Oil), then he shouldn’t be allowed to speak out, to challenge their bottom line (to hell with the American people). And Corporatist control the media….well, then it’s easy to silence voices isn’t it? Of course the list goes on of those in the Status Quo (Healthcare, Insurance, Credit, Big Oil, etc), whose interest would have been challenged, if Congressman Kucinich’s views were actually heard by a large enough percentage of the population. And remember, those who were aware of Congressman Kucinich’s views, in poll after poll choose him above all others. So it is unfortunate that he didn’t get more coverage, in order that he might have opened more eyes and ears to the complete tragedy of what America has become.

I am certain that it is a conspiracy, which has Congressman Kucinich in its crosshairs. One really need not look far for other examples of conspiracies against Congresspeople and others for ‘stepping out of line.’ And one would have to be completely naive to believe that conspiracies were/are not part and parcel of running an empire and controlling the people.

Congressman Kucinich is not incompetent, but rather the status quo is unwilling to let go its baubles, power and control in light of an informed populace and an alternative, constructive vision.

As this conspiracy goes forth, we must all be aware of agent provocateurs and PAC aligned stooges, who will attempt to defame, deride and swiftboat Congressman Kuncinich, at the orders of their Corporatist and PAC masters.

Cheers.

It was commendable and perfectly sensible for Dennis to try to rally the progressive wing of the Democratic Party behind his candidacy. He, after all, was the only candidate who embodied their two most fervently professed desires: i.e., to end the war in Iraq, and provide universal, single payer health care for all Americans. But progressives aren’t nearly as interested in achieving their ends as they are in winning this election, so they rallied behind one or the other of the Wall-Street-Republicans-in-Democrat’s-clothing candidates pre-selected for them by the ruling class. As a consequence, unfortunately, they and we will get the candidates we deserve.

Send Dennis a generous donation, he was and is the most fitting representative of our best selves, and we rejected him when given the chance to redeem ourselves. Ask not for whom the bell tolls…

There are a few people who articulate the bad news for middle class Americans.  Middle class Americans, for some reason, don’t see what’s happening to them, despite reality.

How can you have one corp. in America report tens of billions in 1/4ly profits during what is becoming a recession and still believe that you’re o.k.?

Corporate Americas’s greed is temporarily backfiring on them, the Bush administration and congress have thrown a piece of candy to the middle class worker in the form of a political, not an economic, stimulus package.

Someday, probably not in our lifetime, people will begin to listen because their ancestors have been irrevocably damaged by their gov’s bungling and corruption. That is, if this republic lasts.

It doesn’t matter who gets elected between the reps and dems, and for that reason, if Nader runs, I’m voting for him, even if it costs a Dem the election.

The withdrawl of Dennis Kucinich from the presidential race has brought me face to face with the last stage of grief for the loss our country, sorrow. That so few are able to see what is to be our reward for continuing down this path is an unreal reminder. Our lust for material reward-our fear of the other. The disbelief, rage and anger rarely awaken in me any more. My tears are all that is left. The heart has been torn from the body of what used to be are proud country. We are left with the howling devils eating our flesh dressed as patriots. Goodbye great dream.

The future for us looks a lot like what was dished up in the recent past for the former Soviet Union. They also were suckered into an un-winnable war in Afghanistan. Afghanistan has never been particularly generous to the invaders-not the British, not the USSR and it won’t be to the USA. Ditto Iraq. Soon we will be hawking our family heirlooms on the street to buy food for our next meal the way Soviet citizens were similarly humiliated after the fall of the USSR. But the cheery voices on the flicker box will never give us a clue.

“The majority of Americans would not know the truth if they heard it. Them’s the facts, folks. But too many of you don’t get it.”

Those words from a writer above “GA” seem to sum it all up pretty well.

Kucinich was and still is the only candidate talking about the nuclear threat that we are still facing after all of these decades.

“Every man, woman and child lives under a nuclear sword of Damocles, hanging by the slenderst of threads, capable of being cut at any moment by accident or miscalculation or by madness.”

US President John F. Kennedy, 1962

Quoted from “Operation Cyanide,” Why the bombing of USS Liberty nearly caused World War III. by Peter Hounam.

The truth is-if you can understand it-we have already survived numerous attempts to launch an all out nulcear holocaust upon the mass of the human race.
Our nuclear war fighting elite decided long ago-1946 to be exact-to destroy the human race in total with the use of nuclear weapons.

We continue to exist due only to the intervention into our world by some unknown High level power, that we generally call ET.

Kucinich is the only candidate who said anything about the nuclear weapons that are still hanging by the slenderest of threads awaiting only a moment of Madness, to carry forward with the plan to kill us all.

When you(My fellow members of the Living Dead) awaken to this brutal truth, no cost or effort will be spared to convene World wide Grand Juries to hear evidence about the plans and overt acts of our nuclear war fighting elite to destroy us.

If juries decide to convict our nuclear war fighting elite of acts of “Criminal insanity,”  no cost will be spared to send them all to mental health facilities where they will be humanely institutionalzed to prevent them from continuing to attempt too launch a nuclear holocaust upon humanity.

If you understand the truth, you along with the rest of us who are also the Living Dead, will have an idea of what is ahead for us.

Peace is Perfect.

The old love it or leave it, huh? Jeez, I haven’t heard that one since the sixties. How about we stay right here and fight for the America we want? Personally, I find much about America I don’t like, but it’s where I live and I’m not going anywhere. You seem to like the ‘‘capitalistic ideal.’’ Good for you. Capitalism, to me, is little more than greed elevated to religious dogma. You also seem to miss the biggest ‘‘truth’’ of all. Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism are economic systems, not political. They are also quite equal on paper. They all work. That all three systems fail is because they each miss that one big ‘‘truth.” In order to work, a high standard of ethics is required by all participants. If workers own the means of production, they must all have a high standard of ethics in order for the system to work. The same goes for private enterprise. Otherwise you get Enron and 19% interest on your credit cards. I don’t know about you, but I’ve met few people in my lifetime who have a high standard of ethics. Look around. We’re mostly sheep and we live and vote that way. We take the path of least resistance. We go along to get along. Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul actually have something to say but that would require us to pay attention, to listen, and to think. Far easier for us to simply support the candidate who waves the flag or the Bible the hardest. Thinking makes our heads hurt. That’s the reason the Kucinich and Paul campaigns didn’t catch on. We’d actually have to think. Either that or they’re both just too short. The outcome’s the same either way.

Some guy up at the top is bashing Kucinich for Bankrupting Cleveland as Mayor and some lady thinks he shouldn’t have waded into the spotlight with his agenda…

Well, even my republican relatives in Cleveland give Kucinich credit for standing up to the hostile takeover attempt of the utility company back then… and that they really bankrupted the city… and acquiescing has in hindsight proven Kucinich’s judgement correct.

A year and a half ago, the proposals on democratic party platform weren’t what we hear today.  The movie Sicko shook a lot of people, as just about all of us have experienced some sort of frustration or worse at the hands of the insurance companies.  Those ‘no shot’ candidates like Kucinich that had universal healthcare front and center in their campaigns, just as the country was demanding it be given attention, forced the ‘anointed’ candidates to ante up as well, and it became a central issue for every democratic candidate.  He wouldn’t have made a difference sitting in one of his offices in Ohio or DC, but the popular issues he pushed on the national stage helped force those popular issues on the party and the other candidates.  Make no mistake about it, if you believe in universal healthcare or question the current NAFTA arrangement as it pertains to job losses, you were served well by Kucinich’s time on the road and in front of the cameras (as few as that may have been).    If we all had Kucinichs for representatives we wouldn’t need him to have spoken to and for everyone , but we don’t.

Most people care little to understand our economic system, and how it is designed to systematically capture control of the country’s wealth, by which I mean, common people’s blood, sweat, and tears. Consequently, regardless of who moves into the oval office, the people will never really get anything but crumbs from the politicians’ table, as long as ignorance, disinterest, and reticence to learn, understand, and take personal action to counteract the system.

The simple answers are in understanding the basics that currency is backed only by the goods and services available in a society. But the control and distribution of that currency is long gone from the control or even scrutiny of the society at large. They who control the money, control.

Kucinich must have realized this, but the same folks who control the money, control the communication channels to snuff out anything that could remotely challenge their position.

We are NOT talking about a conspiracy. This is the stuff we openly teach MBA’s in our universities, and promote as the American way, and Free Trade, and all the freedoms that come with it, with the carrot that any clever American can play the same game and win. But, mathematically, it’s an unsustainable system, where wealth is systematically drained from the labor and intelligence of the people, into the hands of the few.

I can accept some accidental errors, from time to time, but a continuous series of crises over the last 50 years, clearly indicate that the results are intended. No matter what myth the high priests teach the masses.

There are ways to deal with these things, and almost anyone with an interest to rip the wizard’s curtain out of the way, and personally dig for understanding, can figure out.

Kucinich, I don’t think you can afford to stop fighting… nor for your sake, and not for ours. Even if you lose a seat, you cannot totally lose your voice and your knowledge, which you must spread out, despite the black-outs imposed on on dissident, knowing voices.

I agree that Kucinich is the best person to run for President since McGovern… the only true Progressive in the 2008 bunch (Edwards is a Liberal, who knows what Obama is, and Hillary is a moderate conservative not much different from McCain), but that it’s time for him to leave the Democrats.

He should be the on the Green Party ticket for 2012.

If we get an Obama/McCain battle (and I would hope Obama wins that one), we may see the end of the ultra conservative and neo-conservative base in the Republican Party and a return there to a moderate base (though the Huckabee’s and Cheney’s won’t just go away). If the Republicans move leftward, the Dems would have to too, and therefore shed their Clinton/DLC pseudo-liberal politic they’ve formed and go back to a politic where Edwards would be considered the mainstream (even conservative-leaning) Democratic candidate, and Kucinich would be considered a (very electable) progressive (like an FDR with less affection for the corporations and war).  More like Norway!

But until then, Kucinich should stay around as a Green to keep his message clear for all to hear.  If the 2 main parties shift left (and let’s hope they do, for the sake of America and the world), Dennis can then rejoin the Democrats.

From what I have heard regarding Cleveland, Ohio, it indeed “represents all of the challenges” of the American economy (housing for instance), and I am not at all surprised by the few locals who commented.

But Kucinich never had a chance when he began, as many like to say, “speaking the truth.” Nader never had a chance. Paul never had a chance. Those who do not play the game never have a chance.*

The majority of Americans would not know the truth if they heard it. Them’s the facts, folks. But too many of you don’t get it.

The Media serves up crappy “entertainment” rather than news. The Pundits are only spouting opinion these days and are frequently wrong—as has finally been shown these past few months—but is anyone really listening?

Most Americans care more about the American Idol “elections” than the Presidential elections. You expect them to know the truth of Kucinich’s words? How?

To know if what you hear is the truth you have to either:

1. Know the truth already.
2. Know that you can trust the source.

The American people are, in general, too ignorant for 1, and too ignorant for 2!

Just look to a 911 “truther” to get an idea of the general intellecual capacity of the average American.

* Obama has a chance, a good chance. But he’s in a class by himself.

If only we could go back to the days before tv , when people were intereseted in thoughts and ideas -when people made intelligent choices by reading what a man had to say rather than the propaganda spewed out at them lying in their lazy boys… maybe we could get a real thinker like Dennis and not some corporate whore.  Dennis voted against the war.(A trillion dollars down a rat hole, A million lives wasted.)  He is against the war on drugs. (400 Billion dollars wasted. ,a million incarcerated)) He is for single payer universal health care…..( We’re paying for it - we are just not getting it.)  And on and on .  This country is full of ignorant asses who will get what they deserve because they are too lazy to think.  There were choices this time:  Bill Richardson, Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich.  Unfortunately the boob tube has made most Americans choices for them….Again.

I like Dennis Kucinich and respect him to a certain point , but I cannot understand why he is still a member of a party that does not want him or his message any longer . The writing has been on the wall for some time now and yet Mr. Kucinich lingered far too long in the headlights of the Democratic Party “Hummer” repeatedly trying to make him political ROAD KILL .
Now he is in for the fight of his life to retain his congressional seat . Mr. Kucinich has been in politics long enough to know the ropes and he is being beaten down in a game that is rigged against him . Nothing in his posted statement is new information - we all know that certain corporate kingpins would like his head mounted on a lamp post .
Mr. Kucinich has beaten his head against the corporate wall one too many times . He seems dazed and directionless . Change and a fresh start would be best for him and for the country , but it seems he cannot grasp the ideology of change . When one road is blocked , most of us naturally find another way to our destination , but Mr. Kucinich seems satisfied to remain in political gridlock , honking his horn , and going nowhere . This is a sad moment in American Politics and in Mr. Kucinich’s life . We are all poorer for this loss .

As a native Clevelander, I’m one of many who are sick of Dennis Kucinich’s use of his position as an elected official to push himself into the national limelight while accomplishing absolutely nothing of value for the people of Cleveland.

Kucinich mis-managed the City of Cleveland into bankruptcy during his tenure as Mayor, vigorously fought the Gateway project which helped to re-invigorate Cleveland’s downtown in the 90s.

This is your progressive champion? Please. He’s always been an attention whore, who was trying to figure out how to run for higher office while Cleveland was circling the drain when he was mayor. George Voinovich, fortunately, was around to clean up the mess.

Liberals may love him, but most of us in Cleveland know him far better, and aren’t suckered in. If he loses his seat in a predominantly Democratic district, it will be because of his own desire to seek the spotlight rather than working for his constituents. It’s citizens, not “corporations”, who want more from their Congressman and will vote him out if needed.

Unbelievable.

Dude, if you don’t like America that much move.  There’s nothing keeping you here.  If you want to be “a de facto terroist” join Al-Qaida.  This country was build on the capitalistic ideal and will continue to be that for sometime.  If you can’t stand that move to France or somewhere more to your liking.  You want a socialist ideal, Europe is willing to accommodate you and if you wish for a communist one, China or Cuba or maybe Venezuela is more to your liking.  Dennis Kucinich is a Moron, that the reason his campaign never caught on with the American public.  With the Internet, Mass Media has lost it’s grip on America.  They can’t deal with it and it seems like you can’t either.

Right now, the powerful insurance, military industrial complex, AIPAC, and other lobbies are bankrolling candidates that will do whatever is in their interests.  Organize behind people and push back!

This demonstrates that the party honchos (not just the local Cleveland Deomcrats) are for weeding out parts of the party that represent more idealism.  When you get rid of the idealists and only have pragmatists you have a party that doesn’t stand for anything and is open to corruption, oh wait, we already have that in both major parties.

With all due respect, Mr. Kucinich, you should have been paying more attention to the people of your district—the people who gave you your bully pulpit in the first place. At a time when Ohio is in the worst economic condition in my lifetime (I am 44)...when houses are being forfeited at a rate of one per hour in Cleveland…when your constituents need you most…you were out chasing a dream. You had NO shot at being President.

While I respect (and agree with many of) your positions, you should have been here taking care of home. Joe Cimperman—opportunist, yes, but he genuinely cares for this area—has created a commercial that pretty much sums up how I feel about you. Rosemary Palmer has taken a higher ground, and I hope that she wins.

I will be moving into your district this spring, and I can guarantee that I will not vote for you.

You gave us hope.  Corporate America dashed it, and your withdrawal from the primaries left us with no one to vote for.  I watched a congressional race here in MA go wrong and now this.  For me, my money and future dreams lie with the Green Party.  Good luck to you, and your family.  You are the best, bar none.

We will not have good government until we have media and election reforms.

Americans are putty in the Mass Media’s eyes. America is the only country in the world that believes it’s own propoganda. Good men like Kucinich will eventually give up trying to awaken the American public as to what is going on. I think the middle class will have to disappear before America wakes up. Unfortunately that “moron” Bush has hoodwinked the “enlightened” public by signing enough executive orders to remove the checks and balances in the system and make anyone who opposes gov’t actions not only unpatriotic but an enemy of the state. Read my lips “a de facto terrorist”.

Eh, I have mixed feelings about idealism. It’s a double-edged sword, but both sides are very sharp on this weapon. The neo-conservative ideologues prove that much.

Fear is very much the basis for controlling people in our society, but I believe, like you, it is a false reality. In my life, fear has no place. My convictions are my only driving force.

Corporations and government teamed up to globalize US industry, banking and labor and now they’re selling our assets too. It’s time to enter our super-sized over-priced out-of-control government in that same global arena. They want a New World Order? Let’s give it to them.

Make the federal government compete with other governments for ‘We The People’ allegiance and ‘We The Consumer’ economy or bear our rebellion: Do Not Tread On Me!

Suffering oppression twice under King George in less than three hundred years is more than American people must tolerate.

Dennis Kucinich was the only candidate who was for “the people”.  Something those with that neverending propensity to kick someone when they’re down rather than lend a hand to help them up seem incapable of understanding.  What does it say about someone who thinks it’s “a good idea” that our nation is imperialistic?  Are these the new court jesters…..dancing for their evil master?

Some people don’t know what it is to be free.  They are like the caged animal who went set free return to their incarceration because they haven’t any comprehension and make no distiction between reality and what they see.  That cage and everything in it is their world.  Fear drives their very existence and they do not venture outside the box.

^ Oh, I think there is much idealism in you; and I don’t think you should apologize for it; and, there is nothing wrong with idealism:  It is the thing of dreams.  However, you really need to see the reality of our present society.  One cannot fight an enemy one doesn’t know.  Idealism is now lost on us, for we have forsaken our dreams for the hard lessons of the present reality.  Ground under by the grist of fear, we have opted for relief.  Fear is a thief; do not let it steal from you.  But, we continue to allow our fears to steal the possibilities of our lives from us; so we continue to make our decisions from the juxtaposition of fear.  If we cannot come out from under this umbrella; to see the possibilities, then we are truly doomed to our worst nightmares.

I am continually impressed with Kucinich’s positions, political knowledge and courage. It’s such a shame how he has so much trouble motivating the grass roots base during presidential primaries. He speaks to the core of progressives.

There is little idealism in me, so I see how (on the whole) he really doesn’t embody a perceived “presidential” persona. At least, not until some change occurs in our country, could this really be a possibility. Still, I was very ready to vote for him because he is a real candidate who doesn’t make the race about him, but the American people.

When good is contorted to appear bad and bad is choreographed to appear acceptably good - your near the tipping point.

The most effective vote we are all empowered cast is in our wallet. Spend your money very carefully, for nothing will get greed’s attention faster than not seeing our bucks.
