Playing Roulette in PakistanPosted on Nov 27, 2007
It was a very good week for Saudi Arabia. The royal family’s favored Pakistani “president-in-exile,” Nawaz Sharif, returned in a triumphant homecoming, throwing down a major challenge to the rule of Gen. Pervez Musharraf, who’s still favored, for the moment, by the United States. Although Sharif can claim to be the true pro-democracy choice, given that he was deposed as prime minister by Musharraf’s 1999 military coup, the U.S. is hoping to throw the deeply corrupt but Westernized Benazir Bhutto into the mix out of fear that Sharif is soft on Muslim fanatics in his own country as well as on the Taliban. Those fears are well founded, given that Sharif, inspired by Saudi-style Wahhabism, attempted to introduce sharia, Islamic law, in his last years in office. It was his administration that green-lighted the test of the Muslim nuclear bomb and condoned bomb builder A.Q. Khan’s nuclear proliferation efforts, which aided the nuclear weapons programs of North Korea, Libya and Iran. Finally, it was Sharif who strongly supported the Taliban, sponsors of Osama bin Laden, in securing power in Afghanistan. Now, to be fair, Musharraf and Bhutto also favored Pakistan’s nuclear program and actively supported the Taliban. I am not referring to the fact that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were the only countries to extend full diplomatic recognition to the Taliban. No, Pakistan’s sponsorship of the Taliban, under all three leaders, goes far deeper than that, as revealed by the release in August of declassified portions of seven years’ worth of cable traffic between the U.S. State Department and its embassy in Pakistan. As the National Security Archive, based at George Washington University, summarized the new information, “The declassified U.S. documents ... clearly illustrate that the Taliban was directly funded, armed and advised by Islamabad itself ... including the use of Pakistani troops to train and fight alongside the Taliban inside Afghanistan.” That support for the Taliban is traced in the declassified documents back to 1995, when Bhutto was Pakistan’s prime minister. One cable on Dec. 22, 1995, states that “Pakistan has followed a policy of supporting the Taliban” in its effort to seize power. On Oct. 22, 1996, again with Bhutto very much Pakistan’s prime minister, the U.S. Embassy warned Washington that “U.S intelligence indicates that the ISI is supplying the Taliban forces with munitions, fuel and food.” ISI refers to Pakistan’s hugely powerful and secretive Interservice Intelligence Agency. By the end of Bhutto’s tenure, a U.S. cable reported, “Pakistan’s ISI is heavily involved in Afghanistan,” but the cable added that the mostly Pashtun Pakistan Frontier Corps was also pitching in: “These Frontier Corps elements are utilized in command and control; training; and when necessary—combat.” Those Frontier Corps fellows are the same folks that Musharraf and Bush are now counting on to capture bin Laden and his gang, operating on Pakistan’s frontier with Afghanistan. The good news, I suppose, is that the religious militant Sharif acted not much differently from U.S.-supported wonders Bhutto and Musharraf. The bad news is that they have all provided decisive support for the Taliban, which harbored bin Laden. But all was forgiven by the Bush administration after 9/11, when President Bush dropped the sanctions against Pakistan (imposed in reprisal for its testing a nuclear bomb) as a reward for Musharraf letting American forces use his air space for the invasion of Afghanistan. We also gave him $10 billion in aid as an incentive to help us catch bin Laden, but that hasn’t quite worked out yet. In addition, we rewarded the two Arab oil sheikdoms that had supported the Taliban by knocking off their nemesis Saddam Hussein. As a result, the world is much safer, democracy has spread throughout the Muslim world, and the price of oil is so high right now that the Saudis are ordering $20 billion of American-made military hardware. It’s been a good deal all around. Dick Cheney’s old company, Halliburton, profited so much from the Iraq war that it could afford to relocate its world headquarters from Texas to Dubai. And this Tuesday, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority agreed to help salvage Citigroup by becoming the beleaguered bank’s largest shareholder. Probably not a very smart financial move, given the unknown depths of Citigroup’s liabilities in the sub-prime mortgage scandal, but what are friends for if they can’t help out in tough times? It’s not the sort of thing Saddam Hussein would ever have done—and that’s why he’s now history. Previous item: Obama Taps the 'Oprah Effect' Next item: Have They No Shame? Elsewhere: . Addressed to 1drees : English isnt your first language is it!
Lefty: Although among the top ten languages used by the internet users; English comes first (31 %), followed by Chinese (15 %), Spanish/ Japanese about (8% each) and other languages but everybody in this world does not have their first language as English.
Among the world population, people who dont have their first language as English, they have their good command and mastery in 2 to 3 more languages, other than their native, including English. Where as people having their first language as English, have their tendency; not to learn any other language. An interesting article published by ‘American Association for the Advancement of Science’ tells us:
What languages will the world speak in 50 years?
In fifty years, you might be searching for the coolest new fonts for Mandarin, Hindi and Arabic so you can communicate stylishly with people speaking the world’s most common native languages.
The percentage of the world’s population that speaks English as its first language is actually declining, according to an article on the future of language, which appears in the 27 February issue of Science.
Author David Graddol of the English Company (UK) Ltd. predicts that by 2050 more people will speak Chinese, Hindi (and its close relative, Urdu) or Arabic as a first language than English.
In 1995, English was second only to Chinese as the most common language in the world, in terms of native speakers.
But, it will probably drop down to be the fourth-most-common language in 50 years, Graddol explains in his article.
Three languages that aren’t near the top of the list now may be there soon. The languages growing the most rapidly are Bengali, Tamil and Malay, which are spoken in various countries in South and Southeast Asia.
In the future, more people will speak more than one language, Graddol predicts. English will often be one of those languages, but the Mandarin form of Chinese will probably be the next “must-learn” language, especially in Asia.

Various studies reveal that linguistic evolution will continue to take its course over one or two centuries and that English could eventually die as a common language as Latin did, or Phoenician or Sanskrit or Sogdian before it.

A Khokhar :
The Twists in the media are required by the powers-that-be that want to stay powers-that-be, its Their way of keeping things under control and with the current project of the NEW_WORLD_ORDER it is necessary as its an order just the same and orders cannot be manitained without harmony and in this case harmony will be brought about by a certain degree of misinformation as in any other age. so certain ways of presenting the information or certain levels of informations need to be maintained. and they are doing it. BUT THE SMART ONES DIG AROUND FOR THE TRUTH AND KNOWLEDGE just to keep themselves above the waterline.
About Dr AQ Khan, he surely has gained a lot of fame and is not at all loved by many powers. Lucky for him that Mr Musharraf stood by his side when there was a high chance of his tortureous interrogations and I hope when Ms Bhutto comes to power he still has someone to save his skin.
IN MY HUMBLE OPINION INFORMATION IS POWER BECAUSE if you learnt that your land was about to screwed to Oblivion you might make it difficult for powers-that-be to execute the plans so to keep things Simple they just dont inform you as was the case of the IRAQ invasion or the Afghan invasion ( it was unveiled as a twist of 9/11), and then you might have seen the similar Disinformation in the recent Israel-Hizbollah conflict, it took about 18 months for Israel to admit that they failed miserably (it came to surface by the sacking of their officials of the Forces, only that was the admission)
AND THE “POWERS” NEVER LEAVE AN ENSLAVED LAND TILL IT BECOMES ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO DO SO, ALL IMPERIALISTS ONLY LEFT THEIR COLONIES WHEN THE LOCALS MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE AND EXPENSIVE FOR THEM TO CONTINUE and USUALLY they LEFT ONLY AFTER INSTALLING A PROXY. all powers have done that be it UK, Holland, France, Russia or Spain, they only left when it was difficult to stay in power directly that way and then another mechanism of proxy rule had not been put in place.(of all Imperialists USA presently remains to be the single defaulter in terms of liberating its colonies such as Philipines, Hawaii etc etc and it just included IRAQ to its list of effecteds and maybe intends to add Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Iran to its collection in the near future)
Report thisONE way out is for the INDEPENDENT PEOPLE TO RUN WEBPAGES LIKE THIS I mean if pakistanis are intrested they should also have webpages like this and same goes for ARABs and Iranians.

#116970 by 1drees on 11/30 at 1:53 am; many journalists are merely reporting everything with a twist, its a twist asked for by certain employers,
We keep on witnessing these twist and turns and manipulation by the media because media is holding us in its grips. Manipulation is their prime business. They are paid for it. Media is the tools to keep the public opinion in favour. It is believed that public opinion is a monster, which needs to be (kept) tamed; (all the times).
Idrees: A Q khan of Pakistan is Hero of Pakistanis. They know that how A Q Khan made it possible for them to make Pakistan a Nuclear state. Nuclear assets are a warranty of their safety and security of their home land in the region. The sanctity of services rendered by the men like A Q Khan demands that they are not seen maligned on unfounded petty grounds. No one may like to see their heroes humiliated.
But what is all behind this twist that we keep on witnessing?
The old Colonial era ended abruptly because western world own home lands in Europe were endangered by an oligarch; called Adolf Hitler, who had his peculiar military and political ambitions to execute. Almost all the colonising powers were some how forced to abandon their foreign occupations and come back home. Some 40 countries were able to shed their colonial shackles and were liberated.
It is the old legacy of Colonial era that one can find oozing up in the west again. There is a mark greed and desire found in the western world to revisit those very lands which used to be part of their empires. With the passage of time these old lands have now turned into gold mines. Many a new discoveries of rich minerals like oil etc have come to the surface. While the peace and plenty and advancement in technology is reaching its heights in the west; but some how the means of their prosperity, supporting the economies like oil etc, lies in same very old lands;(since abundant in mid forties.)
During colonial era local inhabitants were kept illiterate and bereft beggared on purpose, to keep them subjacent low. Now in order to facilitate the well desired revisits and avail a free walk over to reoccupy the target lands with out any hurdles and military resistance. It is but essential that locals are denied any access to the advancements in the field of military technology as well as defence arsenals. We have seen that how in the heart of mineral rich oil Arab peninsula, to occupy Iraq, and to secure the permanent US bases there, a free walk over of US lead forces was achieved. Mega bases are raised and people there are now found, succumbing to the US onslaught. We are also witnessing that how the neighbouring state Iran (next target) is also being harassed, strangulated and compelled to come to terms of abandoning its nuclear ambitions which Iran desperately needs for its survival and security.
These are the reasons; that we find many a twists on display in the media. These hirelings in the media are very successfully holding us in their grips because they are paid for this.

MR Robert Scheer if you only know that no sacrifice can ever match or excels the sacrifice of a soldier. He dies and gives his today for his homeland so that others all can live their tomorrow.
What A Q Khan has done for Pakistan; he has done, what all patriot sons are expected to do; to come forward with their utmost abilities when ever their country calls them. A Q Khan and his team made it possible that today; Pakistan is a Nuclear power and there many more AQ Khans trained; standing in line to serve. WE all feel safe in our homes, because sons like AQ Khan are at their work; fulfilling their duties; in all the countries in their own capacity through out the world. They may not be maligned in any case.
Pakistan nuclear assets; stand a guarantee of defence of Pakistan as well as a security of the region. Rest assured; Pakistan nukes are as safe or in danger as of any other good country; like USA, UK or Israel.
There are many out there with the intent to destabilize Pakistan and see this country fixed up in some turmoil, anarchy and mayhem; so that they can grab the seat of power.
Musharraf has put every thing at stake to save Pakistan from destabilization. He is the man who will fight to the end to re-instate the real democracy in Pakistan.
May God save this land of my dreams and hope and glory; blood of many a patriots has gone into its soil to nurture it.

The C.I.A.,F.B.I.,N.S.A.,Naval Intelligence and the D.I.A. all know that it was Israeli agents that organized and carried out the murder of J.F.K. because of his adamant opposition to Israel’s quest to obtain nuclear weapons. All of these agencies that are supposed to be staffed with American patriots, know that the Israeli nuclear weapons program was started by stealing weapons grade fissionable materials from the American arsenal.A theft that is probably still going on to this day. These agencies know who the traitors are in America and they do nothing about it.

To look for a real cause of present day turmoil seen in Pakistan, we need to turn to past events when after the 9/11(incident of attack on twin towers); US declared an all out war against this act of terrorism. Al-Qaeda; a subordinate organisation of Taliban in Afghanistan was singled out for masterminding a highly complex operation against USA. Pakistan being a neighbouring state was also indicted to apportion a blame for this act; on the charge that Pakistan used to back Taliban government in the past. Where as Afghanistan received an intensive aerial bombardment; Pakistan was threatened and asked to join US to take out Taliban miscreants in their area. President Musharraf being at the helm of the affairs was coerced to accept this. He agreed to flush out the culprits; if any; in his territory. This can be called a big goof up of Musharraf that he ever committed but only to avert the tyranny of the Exterminator-(USA) and save Pakistan. It was the biggest web of US fallacy (the war against terrorism) that was thrown over Musharraf and he is now fully trapped in it. (Some times a blunder which took, just a fraction of seconds to commit; has the consequences that the centuries are made to suffer.)
As the bombardment intensified in Afghanistan; so was the influx of displaced Afghanis which grew on Pakistan border in millions. There after it is a history that how this heavy handed dealing of the displaced destitute Afghanis turned into a malice of monsters against the oppressors; USA and as well as Pakistan. This has since brought about a new breed of Islamist and extremist in the country; rising up and challenging the writ of government on religious issues. This has been holding the country (in some parts) to a ransom.
One can argue that Musharraf, a leader of impoverish and declared (then) an insolvent nation Pakistan was forced to swallow a bitter discriminatory pill; to accept US terms to quell and subdue his own people and also the Afghanis and Taliban miscreants trickled down in Pakistan. But credit goes to him that over the period of last six years; this country has since recovered a lot; it is now standing up right and is flourishing.
To accept US terms then, might have been the most hate full act but some time one is compelled under the circumstances to accept an ugly out come as it was done by Musharraf in the wake of 9/11 scenario; but what justification can we have when a fully remodelled and US nurtured robot; like Miss Benazir Bhutto is wily nily being implanted in Pakistan to take over this country. She has promised US a free walk over and take out the most endeared nuclear assets along with Pakistani engineers.
A strong Pakistan and its nuclear assets are the proviso ensuring the stability and peace with its neighbours as well as in the region. Benazir implantation is nothing but to destroy and push Pakistan back to the dark ages. (And once again she will leave this country looted and plundered.)
Nawaz Sharif, while riding the wings of Saudi monarchy has also landed in Pakistan. He is another corrupt ex-prime minister, who is allowed in, in the wider interest of scheme of National Reconciliation in the field of Pakistani Politic. Pakistan has come a long way and is on the turn to achieve a real democracy in the country under the strong and honest leadership of President Pervez Musharraf. Lets hope that after the scheduled elections of January 2008, peace and harmony returns to Pakistan and Mr Robert Scheers speculative theory is proven wrong.

It is unbelievably racist for Mr. Scheer to refer to Pakistan’s nuclear weapon as a “Muslim bomb”. Would he refer to Israel’s nuclear weapons as a “Jewish bomb”? Would he ever say that the United States dropped it’s “Christian bomb” on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? No, of course not. Why do bombs only have a religion when Muslims are involved? This language just appears to be another way to foster fear and prejudice against Muslims.
As for Pakistan’s former support of the Taliban, virtually ever bad thing Pakistan is accused of doing, the United States has done itself. The United States supported Bin Laden and the Mujahadeen against the Soviets. Although the Clinton administration did not recognize the Taliban government, it did initiate negotiations with Taliban officials to set up an oil pipeline in Afghanistan. As Scheer himself writes, the Bush administration was also funding the Taliban just months before the 9/11 attacks:
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20010604/20010522
Finally, the U.S. government still staunchly supports (and always has) Saudi Arabia, the most fundamentalist nation in the world and has a long history of supporting religious fundamentalists in the Muslim world. If Scheer is going to criticize Pakistan, he also ought to criticize the US role in promoting fundamentalism in the Muslim world.

Humm, this caught my eye as well. It would appear to be extremely OLD speculation, (about Iran at least) and I’m talking about at least a decade old. FACT 001 - Saddam had nothing what so ever to do with Afghanistan, If you can CHECK then do find out the number of IRAQIs involved or arrested in AFGHANISTAN. [that should be able to indicate to you the IRAQI involvement in AFGHANISTAN/TALIBAAN.]
FACT 002 - The AFGHAN insurgency was concepted, planned, organised, funded, and run by the various US AGENCIES and hence so was TALIBAAN which was a part of that, Later when Various FACTIONS waned or DIED the US GOVT kept itself in a good place with TALIBAAN so as to ASSURE continued US representation in AFGHANISTAN for US benefits such as the OIL PIPELINE PROJECT which they tried to wring out of the TALIBAAN hands via PALM GREASING & THREATS. In this process of of inception & operation of INSURGENCY the Pakistani Agency ISI, which was a SUBORDINATE to USA due to the Anti-Soviet alliance, used to handle the affairs in South Asia as per ORDERS received from WASHINGTON.
FACT 003 - SAUDI ARABIA & UAE never gave a RAT’s ASS about SADDAM, who was basically SOVIET BLOCK MEMBER but was fighting the IRANIANS on the behalf of USA as they POURED MONEY & WHAT NOT for that purpose into IRAQ. Even personally the SAUDs & the SHEIKHs of the Emirates never got along well with SADDAM.
FACT 004 - About Cheney’s help to CITIGROUP I quote “but what are friends for if they cant help out in tough times? Its not the sort of thing Saddam Hussein would ever have doneand thats why hes now history. ”
And what comes to my mind is that :
Well, to all who still REMEMBER RECENT HISTORY SADDAM DID A LOT FOR HIS SOVIET BLOCK FOES BY TAKING ON IRAN FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS DESPITE LOSING CONTINUALLY, DESPITE THE HELP OF US SUPPLIED CHEMICAL WEAPONS WHICH WERE SPRAYED AS PER THE BEST BEST US INTELLIGENCE BASED ON SATELLITE PHOTOS AND THE WORKS. “and thats why hes now history.”
About Pakistan, Musharraf is supposed to hand over the reins of Pakistan to Ms Bhutto who is supposed to execute the newer wishes of the WEST on Pakistan by Further Breaking it, keeping herself in the legacy of her Father Mr Bhutto who oversaw the breakaway of the then East Pakistan into what is now known as Bangladesh BUT weirdly Enough the Bangladeshis still respect Pakistan in a certain way despite a WAR of Independence with Pakistan which was then WEST Pakistan. In this new SCENARIO Mr Sharif is the selected VILLAIN who wants to get into the game but has been left out in the cold by Mr Musharraf & Mr Bush who have expressed deeper trust in Ms Bhutto for the task afoot.
Report thisAnother fact BOTH Ms Bhutto & Mr Sharif are corrupt to the core, Mr Musharraf was much more honest & scruplous than either of the two in regards to bribes & breaches of laws.
Mr Sharif might pretend to be Islamic but his corruptions evidently indicate otherwise, About Ms Bhutto its no use even if she tries to pretend because her life history is before all pakistanis and actually it seems that she has a Masters in Corruption along with her nameworthy Husband who just finished his sentence in jail.
Simple people in that part of the world look upto ISLAM to find some honesty, fairness and some other positive things and so some politicians pretend to be ISLAMIC but practise the worthless corrupt ways in its name to exploit it a little.

Pakistans geo strategic location; as it is poised there at the hems, guarding the lucrative oil rich Persian (Arabian) Gulf; this has always posed a challenge and up a hill task for its leaders to steer their ways in befitting manners. Lately in the wake of ever increasing interest of the West; especially of United States of America in this area; the Pakistani leaders (most of the time; they are military dictators stationed there through some coup) at the top have been threatened and coerced to act as US proxy; they are dictated to act as active agent, a surrogate combatant’ to advance the given agenda. Once subjugated and conscripted; they are tasked with specific missions to execute and bring about the desired results. In return, (the few) at the helm of the affair are heftily paid for their services.
These stooges are picked up and very skilfully inducted into special cadres run by Neocans of USA and after due vetting and approval; their implantation is arranged and carried out in the target countries like in Pakistan. (Presently we are witnessing the arranged lateral entry and installation of Miss Bhutto, known as BB; in case she fails; Nawaz Sharif is also being inducted as another candidate). These second bananas when take over the power; not only push forward US given agenda at the cost of pulverising and disintegration of the very basic weave and grain of their own country but also bring about all sorts of atrocities to their own people. They know that they have just few years of their moonshine at hand; so these savage archaic plunder and loot the country and leave people more impoverished and lamed in the line of implementation of given tasks. Any stability and peace or progress is a far cry.
We all know that Taliban of Afghanistan has their history, the way they came into being under US plan and we all know well that how their former formation, called ‘Mujahideen’ fought a successful Afghan war for US to oust Soviet Union. That phase is over but these hirelings warriors are still keeping their, an elephant like grudge that how badly; they were treated by USA at the end. They carry a bitter vengeance against US for that. They happen to be ferocious and brutal people. In order to take revenge (when ever they decide, then they don’t dither); they keep their grudges very close to their heart and live by that till the end.
Taliban in Afghanistan and their some remnants in Pakistan might be found believing in the very boorish orthodoxy of their religion but certainly they have their rehabilitation problem which is the result of a mass displacement occurred due to Afghan war. This need to be addressed and sorted out which can be easily done through dialogues and negotiation with this lot at lower levels. They need shelters over their heads and help to find reasonable jobs to go by with their daily lives to keep their honour in tact and not the US planned bombardment from above (They need help. We have broken it so we ought to fix it.)
One can very much appreciate US desperation that US want to bring this entire area into their fold as soon as possible. George W Bush also wants to leave his office with a legacy of win, win case in the Middle East; before this that Russia once again awakes and starts bringing this area into their grip. (Many a signs are already visible).

Just another hyperbolic troublemaker pushing for war through use of hot-button words. Chris Matthews of “Hardball” has a habit of doing this, as well.
If Scheer has evidence that Iran is building such weapons, let him present it here at Truthdig now. If he has no proof of his claims, I would appreciate an immediate retraction, in the interest of peace.
Extremely poor judgement.
