“In a democracy, the policy of the leaders is the policy of the people.  So don’t be shocked when our grandkids bury much of this generation as traitors to the nation, to the world and to humanity.  Most likely, they will come to know that ‘somehow’ was nurtured by fear, insecurity and indifference, leaving the country vulnerable to unchecked, unchallenged parasites.

“Luckily this country is still a democracy.  People still have a voice.  People still can take action.  It can start after Pat’s birthday.”

Yes, we do not live in a democracy ... we live in a representative republic.

A democracy requires the direct vote of the populace ... a representative republic requires the populace to vote for those who will represent them to create legislation (hmmm ... sounds like congress, etc).

A democracy would be a crazy mess. Could you imagine requiring everyone in the country to vote on every crazy piece of legislation? If you want to talk about a great way for power to really get out of hand that would be the way to go.

As it is ... our voting process is democratic. But we certainly do NOT live in a democracy.

we are not a democracy, democracy is the rule of the people. this is when every citizen has the right to vote on every policy or descision every time. this is a poor and inneficient form of government. one in wich a single person can sway the publics opinion in order to acheive his own goals. for example: if you were a black man that lived in the southern united states during the nineteen sixties, the majority (who were white voters) would be allowed to vote you back into slavery.

our founding fathers were distinctly opposed to democracy and elected to establish our nation as a representative republic. a republic is a government in wich the power is guided and restricted to the principles we choose to be governed by. principles such as the constitution and bill of rights. principles wich we the people have the power to change through due process.

we run our nation this way in order to restrict the power of government, to protect the rights of one man from being infringed upon by the rights of many, and to ensure that we are governed by our principles and not popular opinions such as the way we all felt the day after 9/11, or how the nazis felt about jews, or how the southern community treated black men, or any of the injustices that have been commited by many upon a few.

go out and vote, it is one of the most important things you can do but, make sure you are educated about how our government works and why it works that way. especially if you want to sell youre opinions to me or anyone else. otherwise you just look like an ass and the listener will data dump whatever you may have to say

We are not in a democracy - only in print and theory do we exist as a democracy. In my view, a democracy requires active voting by the public on election day. With ony 30 - 40 percent of registered voters (sometimes less) actively taking part in the democratic process I say we are in a transition toward, if not already in a capitalistic aturocratic society.

Vote!

Yes, but this is also the reason to be watchful today.

When you vote, besides voting for anyone other than a member of the party of fat old sleazoid greedy white men and their hangers-on, if you notice anything at all untoward or irregular, document it as best as you can (digital camera, digital camcorder, even a cell phone camera) and call 1-866-OUR-VOTE.

DO NOT let Republicans steal the fourth election in a row!
