9/11 Video Tribute

To commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, we have assembled a collection of the most memorable and compelling footage related to that day—some of it iconic and unforgettable, like the images of the planes crashing into the towers, some of it more below the radar, like Jon Stewart’s first show after the attacks.

They run in a generally chronological order.

If you have other videos that you think should make the list, post them in the comments box and we’ll add them.

(Warning: Many of these videos are extremely graphic and disturbing. And although some may find this presentation unnecessarily morbid, we present it because we had forgotten how viscerally powerful these images are. This is due to the fact that not long after the attacks, most television networks and stations decided en masse not to continue airing the images, as viewers apparently found them too disturbing. Well, five years later, we feel it’s appropriate and, yes, necessary to remind our people of the barbarity of those who attacked us on Sept. 11. )

CNN footage (culled from the work of an amateur photographer) of American Airlines Flight 11 crashing into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. Also includes professional footage of United Airlines Flight 175 crashing into the South Tower at 9:02 a.m.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

Amateur footage, from close up, of UA 175 crashing into the South Tower.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

The entire 911 (not 9/11) phone call made by Kevin Cosgrove, a 45-year-old vice president of Aon Corporation, headquartered on the 105th floor of No. 2 WTC. Heartbreaking.

People leap from the Twin Towers to their deaths.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

Defense Department footage of American Airlines Flight 77 crashing into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. (The camera filmed a new frame only about once a second, so there exists only one frame of AA 77 in flight before it crashes.)

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

Amateur footage of the South Tower collapsing at 9:59 a.m. (contains heart-wrenching screams of pedestrians gathered around the photographer).

South Tower Collapses

Professional footage of the North Tower collapsing at 10:28 a.m.

Professional footage of No. 7 WTC collapsing at 5:20 p.m.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

“Bush’s Response to 9/11” –- amateur but expertly assembled movie that juxtaposes the New York City-based events of 9/11 with Bush’s Florida-based “response.” Devastating.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

Bush’s “bullhorn moment” standing atop the rubble of the WTC. Some call it his finest moment –- never mind the fact that it happened on Sept. 14th –- three days after the attacks.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

David Letterman’s first show after the attacks, widely praised by critics as setting the tone for the days to follow.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

Dan Rather cries twice during the interview segment of the same Letterman show.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

Jon Stewart delivers a heartfelt –- and at times funny –- monologue in his first show after the attacks. Pitch-perfect.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

For a more crass response, listen to the Howard Stern show while the attacks are actually happening.

If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here.

The trailer for the soon-to-be-released movie “9/11: Press for the Truth” –- about the efforts of the “Jersey Girls,” women who lost husbands in the World Trade Center attacks, and who almost single-handedly goaded Republican lawmakers into holding hearings into the attacks.

Press for Truth
Watch it here.

For the conspiracy theorists among you, here’s the full version of “Loose Change” –- the mother of all “The U.S. government was responsible for 9/11” videos.

This is for all of you politics out there who still believe the government had nothing to do with the 9/11 attack.

Five years ago I was sitting at home watching the news and working on a project.  Out of no where, the screen flipped to the trade centers as a replay.  I saw the plane crash into the first trade center that day.  For being only 11 at the time, that was pretty traumatic.  The whole day I sat on the couch holding a pillow watching every bit of footage shown.  Starting with the trade centers and ending with Flight 93 (if I remember correctly) crashing in Pennsylvania.

I remember thinking that the footage shown didn’t seem right.  Something was missing, or they weren’t showing all of it.  Yesterday, my dad told me to watch the Loose Change film.  We have it at home on DVD.  When I first sat down and watched it...the first thing shown was the first trade center falling.  Immediatly I got up and began walking away.  My dad stopped my and told me to watch it because of what it had to show.  So for about an hour and a half I watched nothing but proof on the goverenment.  It prooved that the goverenment was behind everything that happened.  Before yesterday, I was in full support of Bush.  Now...I don’t know what to think.

All I can say is that I suggest everyone in America watch this movie and get it in their heads.  Maybe we can choose a better president next time.  I will be able to vote this next elecetion, and I don’t want the government risking the lives of thousands just to make money.

chaseme: I didn’t believe a plane hit the Pentagon at first either. I now know that four planes were used that day. Whether there were actually hijackers in those planes is something I’m still not sure of. Here’s the plane wreckage from the Pentagon.

I like how people use words like “fascism” when they’ve obviously never looked the word up in the dictionary.  I also like how the Clinton administration is overlooked for their hand in all of it.  In reality, the strife between the US and the middle east goes back to the 80s.  But of course, no one mentions the administrations from the 80s.  Particularly Reagan.  Bush is in office, so it must be Bush’s fault.  Real analytical and inellectual there.  As if Bush did something to offend those people that has not already been done before.  Like promising them aid, then backing out and letting the Russians have their way with them.  Get real.

The only reason that ANYone attacks is either total desperation, or a perceived weakness.  Not for fun, not to kill time, not as a hobby.  The tangos saw a weakness and they went for it.  Clinton made us look soft.  Only using air power, not ground troops.  Reductions in the military.  A huge sex scandal in the office.  And the fear of a civil rights lawsuit if he confiscated suspected tango computers and possessions.  Add it all up.  Can you think of a better time to set the wheels spinning?

In the end, no matter WHAT the reasons, innocent women, children, civilians in general were attacked.  Not the politicians who made the decisions.  Not the military who enforces them.  No, they attacked people who were simply trying to make the world a better place.  Real smart.  Like that was going to end ANYthing.  Considering the history of America, a history based on war, I would have to say that was the dumbest move they could have made.  Historically, our military has respected honor and “rules.” “If you don’t attack our officers, we won’t attack yours.” “If you don’t kill our POWs, we won’t harm yours.”

They attacked because of a perceived weakness before.  Next time, they will have to attack out of desperation.  They are being hunted down relentlessly.  This “War On Terror” will never end.  There will always be terrorists.  If you think 9/11 was bad, imagine what will come next.  We have air marshalls, we’re watching the skies…

How about a Large Natural Gas tanker off of the west coast, before it has been inspected, filled with chemical weapons instead of natural gas?  How about blowing that up many miles off shore and letting the jet stream carry it all across the USA?  A crew of maybe 20 on one of those, not a plane of 100.

clearly there are people that don’t want the 9/11 motives known.
ABC’s movie just lied saying that bin laden said the attacks would continue “until you convert to Islam”
this movie is very ugly propaganda

what bin Laden has said has been crystal clear.

“We swore that America wouldn’t live in security until we live it truly in Palestine. This showed the reality of America, which puts Israel’s interest above its own people’s interest. America won’t get out of this crisis until it gets out of the Arabian Peninsula, and until it stops its support of Israel.” -Osama bin Laden, October 2001

“… the Mujahideen saw the black gang of thugs in the White House hiding the truth, and their stupid and foolish leader, who is elected and supported by his people, denying reality and proclaiming that we (the Mujahideen) were striking them because we were jealous of them (the Americans), whereas the reality is that we are striking them because of their evil and injustice in the whole of the Islamic World, especially in Iraq and Palestine and their occupation of the Land of the Two Holy Sanctuaries.” -Osama Bin Laden , February 14 , 2003

No one should be suppressing the facts.

What motivated the 9/11 hijackers?
The video shows the 9/11 Commission Hearing where the question “What motivated them to do it?” was finally asked.  See FBI Special Agent Fitzgerald explain the motive. This testimony was kept out of the 9/11 Commission Report and no recommendation was given to address the main motive for the 9/11 attacks.

Given the administration’s track record of doing anything well other than getting elected, it does seem to stretch credulity that they had a direct hand in the attacks (my guess is all four planes would have missed somehow if they had).  For all those wedded to the fact that something other than planes were involved go look up “Pod People”, have a read and decide for yourselves.

The thing this administration *is* really good at is spin and PR.  That they were quick to leap on this event to promote the neocon agenda is without question.  That they were adept at CYA (Cover Your Ass) information to the public after the event is clear.

The bottom line is that WHETHER OR NOT the administration was responsible for the attacks (and personally I doubt it), they are nonetheless guilty of grave Crimes Against Humanity since.  Just like it was good enough to get Al Capone on tax evasion, it will be good enough to see prosecution of the individuals responsible for the agressive unprovoked invasion of Iraq, the indefinite detention of political prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, torture and inhumane treatment of prisoners and criminal negligence in ignoring necessary defence against terror attacks and natural disasters.

... but don’t hold your breath ... money can protect very effectively and they’ve been legally appropriating more and more from the poor and middle class for six years now!!!

We do know that the government had foreknowledge of a planned attack though no specific plans.  This knowledge was from diverse sources and therefore precautions should have been taken and they weren’t.  It is reasonable to assume that therefore some people wanted the attack to occur, wanted a Pearl Harbor, and let the attack occur.  This is what I believe happened.  Further, I wouldn’t be surprised that this was approved of by Cheney and the creeps around him.

On that dire morn, my gal friend watched Bush’s classroom response and plainly summed, “He knew.” Now mainstream news tardily passes evidence from dvds on 9/11 and the Iraq War. Why have we not been attacked five years since? Napoleon Bonaparte answered long ago:

“Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”

Why is it any controversy or questions raised about the 9-11 commission’s report labeled “conspiracy theory”?  Can’t we turn the tables and call the commission report one also since their theories are just, if not more so, as far-fetched?  It’s offensive to be labeled that just to enter a site (above) that asks some serious questions!  I think these ‘conspiracist’ are only asking for answers to all the ‘ommissions and distortions’ of the ‘official’ report.  I’m sure this is done deliberately somehow to shun people away from looking at another point of view, especially one that might point a finger somewhere else.

I cannot get these to load.  But, I was watching it on tv that morning as I had breakfast with some friends from out of town at a favorite restaurant they used to frequent (that was politically aware).  I knew it was no accident.  I don’t think that anyone watching thought it was an accident.  As many times as Bin Laden has been under our radar--It boggles the mind why he was never apprehended....much in the same way it boggled our minds sitting there… trying to eat (--unsuccessfully) and wondering why no military planes had been deployed.  It isn’t like it came outta no where in a flash...there was time to prevent the catastrophe, but our arrogant administration couldn’t wrap their heads around it.

How ineffectual, feckless, & curiously dumb of our administration.

Anyone suffering health effects resulting from 9-11 should be taken care of FREE OF CHARGE by the best doctors for the rest of their lives. Perhaps the government could give tax benefits to those doctors--enough to make it attractive to them.  That is the least they can do.

It’s not hard to figure out. 9/11 was a false-flag terror attack staged to set the country on a path to war and fascism.  Bush is guilty not just of failing to protect the country, but of participating, even if only after-the-fact, in the attacks of that day.

9/11 was an inside job.

Wake up and smell the fascism.

Mr. Scheer;

You very disappointedly referred to all the 9/11 conspiracy theories as “alot of crap”, but can tell me if when you freeze the single frame of American Airlines flight 77 just before it hits the pentagon (the most secured piece of property on this planet), if you can at all make it out to be a commercial airliner? I would just like to know.

This is a sad reminder, but unfortunately it goes much deeper than just this administration; all those institutes and thinktanks and the smartest minds among us are pro war.  They are taking the seemingly honest position criticizing that Bush really did screwed up and that they agree with the majority, but then they argue that the intention was correct all along, we just need to elect smarter people to do it better, next time...sign...the fight will be long and hard...take care.

“CBS reporter David Martin revealed that weeks before the attacks, the CIA had warned Bush personally of Osama Bin Laden’s intent to use hijacked planes as missiles. That followed the damaging exposure by The Associated Press’s John Solomon of a pre-9/11 FBI memo from an officer in Phoenix warning of suspicious Middle Eastern men training at flight schools—a warning that went unheeded.”

Every time I see the events of 9/11, I am deeply appalled that more American citizens are not taking up arms against this administration. ‘Taking up arms’ you say? Yes, arms and fist rose in disgust, forcing these killers out of office.

I blame this administration more than I do Osama himself. There is more proof that this administration had more to do with the atrocities of 9/11 than there is proof that Bin Laden had a hand in it. They can’t find this guy? Give me a break!

And, each time I see the film of whatever that was that flew into the Pentagon, I am angry to know they want us to believe it was an airplane. I have yet to see a plane, or plane parts. I want to yell to the top of my lungs at these arrogant assholes, which keep trying to shove this bullshit down our throats. They are liars and killers and the truth is not in them.

Stern figured it out immediately.  Much quicker than Bush reading “My Pet Goat”.  “It’s a suicide mission.  We’re under attack.” He said immediately.
