Truthdigger of the Week: Michael J. FoxPosted on Oct 27, 2006
Truthdig salutes Michael J. Fox, who reacted with grace when right-wing hate-machine Rush Limbaugh accused the actor of faking the symptoms of his Parkinson’s disease in order to curry political favor for stem cell research. We find it distasteful even to write about Rush, but when he steps this far over the line, we feel we have no choice but to hold him up to the public humiliation he so richly deserves. Watch Fox’s ad:

If blood circulates well, we do not suffer from pain and die in nature of our body system. Because stasis, which increases while aging, clogs blood vessel and blood can not circulate properly, we suffer from senility and our body dose not function properly and catches diseases. Which stasis clogs which blood Vessel can account for even abdominal pain, headache, leg pain, leucosis or congestive heart failure? Because our body can not remove stasis for itself as it ages, which is a big drawback of our body, our body can not function properly, and we catch diseases and die eventually as blood vessel is clogged while aging. Basically, Simcheon Sahyeol therapy is based on the law o nature, adaptive evolution, the lesson of adaptive spirituality, and food chain in addition to co-existence, and is a therapy to circulate blood well by intentionally removing stasis, which our human body can not eliminate for itself, and recover itself, and recover its function for itself.

Wow is this debate about MJF still going on. Oh my. Has anyone in here heard MJF admit that he didn’t completely read amendment 2 and he admitted that he just took the Democrats word for what it really stood for. Has anyone heard the news broadcasters admit that they doctored the Rush interview. The sped up the tape and looped it so it lasted longer than it really did. Amazing how all this comes out after the election. Did anyone in hear actually hear what Rush said about MJF or are you just believing what the new media told you he said.
You people should do your own research and come to your own conclusions.
Rush didn’t make fun of MJF and he didn’t say he was faking it either.
All he said was that MJF has gone off his medications in the past so that his symptoms would flare up.
MJF admitted this himself on a Diane Sawyer interview.
You people make me laugh you hate President Bush and you just want to sit back and believe any twisted lie that makes him appear worse than you already view him.
Most of you don’t have the courtesy to call him President Bush. Whether you like the guy or not he is the president and deserves that courtesy. I refer to all presidents by their title whether I liked them or not. Oh yeah that’s right he lied and took us to war.
You mean the same war that the house of Representatives and the senate voted for.
A president can’t take a country to war by himself, so maybe you should refrain from those comments.

I don’t believe in abortion yet I am a Democrat, I am a Democrat but I consider myself a liberal/concertative person, some things can be left to local governments, and this government has gotten into religious issues which if Bushie Boy and his handlers had studied government from our founding fathers they would have known that there is suppose to be a seperation of religion and state, after all does this country want to be like Denmark or other countries that have a state religion. The reason Bush and company go into the issued of gay marriage and the like is that are pandering to the extreme right, and most people in this country do not go to the extreme. I always thought that Russ was a hipicrate as well as O’Riley and the like who make money while playing fools.

Report thisI am a democratic liberal. In addition, I was a medical student until I got multiple sclerosis and could not continue. More of the sequelae of this disease caused me to have very bad vision, balance and coordination.
Like Michael I also have VERY bad hand tremors. I can relate somewhat. Can’t eat with a spoon anymore and drink using two hands and a straw. Writing is impossible and typing this comment has been a great struggle.
When I heard Bush making a hubub about stem cell research I was troubled at first. Later I spoke with a neurologist who mentioned that this was only part of the story because there are much CORPORATE FUNDS devoted legally to doing research of this type. The rsearch companies have serious interest in developing treatments/lots of profit.
Lastly, froma business and scientific point of view we should welcome this type of research, other countries will do so, to not lose our economic/technical international edge.

I’m ashamed to be an American lately. And frightened to travel the world, working on my dialects so I can pretend to be from somewhere else.
There isn’t even time to begin the list of embarrassments; will there ever be time to reverse the damage?
The irony of ironies: I heard a parent ranting about how his children spend too much time on video games as he rushed (no pun intended) home so as not to miss Rush; apparently he would rather his kids sit down with him and take in the antics of this bloated bastard. His kids’ favorite game, by the way…Mario Brothers. Frightening, isn’t it?
We should be ashamed as Americans that a man like this is actually being paid very well to do what he does. Someone must be listening or he wouldn’t be on. If it’s you…take a look in the mirror and ask yourself what you represent as a human being and if you’ll be okay with that on your deathbed.
I’ve been trying to figure out who the 37% of Americans who still believe Bush is doing a good job are and am having difficulty. I figure the wealthy who benefit from his gifts make up some, but they only make up a portion of that figure. The rest must be either insane or are completely out of touch and ‘pretend’ to know something when participating in a poll. I don’t think that many christians are buying it anymore. I don’t know…any feedback would be appreciated.
Peace.

Fiorito: Much as I’d love to join in the Rush pile-on, you ask a good question. Why don’t embryonic stem-cell researchers just find other funds? Well as memory serves (and it may be faulty), part of the problem is that federal funds often open the gate to other funds, such as corporate grants that use federal grants as an indicator of who deserves their own funding. If the feds deem you unworthy, you have little chance of getting anyone else to back you. That’s one way the federal rules matter, big time. Another is that, going back to the Reagan years if I remember right, the Feds have asserted their right to cut off federal funds to an entire university if one guy alone in a lab violates their rules. Even if that guy isn’t getting any direct federal funding. So federal rules have a huge impact far beyond the actual check recipients, shaping what the private sector is able to even try to do.

how sad this world is when a drugged out morally bankrupt biggot is a large source of inspiration to so many people.

I haven’t read all that has been written, but I venture to believe that I agree with most of it…Yes, Rush is a pig who no one should listen to, and yes, Fox is a stand up guy who has used his fame to promote and create awareness of an issue that is dear to millions of people…a use of fame that is truly inspirational and we should all strive for….but I have to step back from the rhetoric that we all have heard and ask, should the government really be spending money on this medical research in the first place?
Can’t independent labs obtain their own stem cells and perform experiments with their own dollars? I thought the rule is that the feds can’t spend taxpayer dollars on the new stem cell lines other than the current 14 contaminated lines…
If they spend money on other medical issues then surely this is one that should be invested in, but how much taxpayer money is spent on AIDS/Cancer/spinal cord injuries/parkinson’s disease, etc…. and other big ticket diseases and how much is funded through independent grants? I’m not sure. If anyone can point me to that information on the web I would be greatly appreciated…But if we don’t spend on those items, then those who feel that strongly can donate their own funds to the causes they feel strongly about…why does this have to be another divisive election issue….don’t get me wrong, I will vote democrat this year and wish to see the current adminstration strung up for its actions and idiocy, I feel they have misappropriated my funds…though there are others who feel quite the opposite…now paying tax is not voluntary as we all know, but I don’t view the government as having a role in creating an industry…regulating one yes, but government’s role in creating a market should be reserved for issues of national importance, global warming and the ridiculous funding of despotic regimes in the middle east

Bloated pillhead Rush(“I haven’t been able to see my own dick for 20 years”) Limbaugh once characterized his views, without apparent irony, as the epitome of morality and virtue. Certainly those qualities were on full display in Rush’s hilarious on-air impression of Michael J. Fox, a performance that should earn him a special niche in the already crowded Hall of Infamy that our Bush-loving Compassionate Conservatives have created to enshrine their Good Christian values. (Yes, like his co-religionist Bush, Limbaugh has claimed he is a twice-borner. Poor Jesus! With “believers” like this, who needs Satan?)
Until recently, pigboy Rush was swilling at the Oxycontin trough at several hundred time above recommended (and legal) levels (“I am addicted to prescription pain medication”). He thus might be expected to show a certain tolerance for someone who may occasionally misjudge the appropriate dose of his medication. Anyone who has worked with Parkinson’s patients knows that the disease has periods of unpredictable exascerbation and that calculating the right dose for these periods isn’t an exact science.
Also, Mr. Fox takes his meds for a neurological condition for whose origin and course he bears no responsibility. Rush, on the other hand, was a voluntary junkie who got off on hillbilly heroin for the same reason many of his yahoo listeners do: it just feels so fucking good.
In response to Limbaugh’s assault, Michael J. Fox has exhibited an extraordinary grace and serenity far beyond anything that the sowgutted Dittomeister deserves. As much as I am in awe of Mr. Fox’s magnanimity, I can’t say that I understand it, much less share it. In fact, let me be as un-Christian (aka, Limbaugian) as possible and say that I welcome the day that Rush’s fat-filled, drug-scarred coronaries close forever. Limbaugh has made a career out of mocking the misfortunes of others, so surely watching karma punch this asshole’s one-way ticket to hell would be such a rush, or Rush, that even the big guy himself would understand.

As usual, when the right wing has no intelligent response to an issue they go on the attack instead. I have yet to see anyone who opposes embryonic stem cell research come up with a good reason why embryos that are going to be DISCARDED by fertility clinics shouldn’t be used for stem cell research instead. They either change the subject or they say they need more time to study the matter. When asked why he opposed embryonic stem cell research even when the embryos would be limited to those that would be discarded by fertility clinics, Michael Steele, the Maryland Republican candidate for the senate, had this response on Meet the Press yesterday:
“I wont close down the fertility clinics. We have options there. We could, we could set up adoptions for those, for those embryos. There are so many other options that we can pursue that we dont.”
Step right up, ladies and gentlemen. Get your soon-to-expire embryos here. (It boggles the mind, doesn’t it, to contemplate the legal ramifications of putting a couple’s soon-to-be-discarded embryo up for adoption.)
Michael J. Fox must just cringe when he hears these kinds of specious arguments against research that might very well improve the quality of life for millions of people all over the planet. I know I do.

What are a few hundred cells, regardless of where they came from & usually disposed of (killed) anyway, compared to the joy you have brought to tens of millions with your talents?
We must move into the 21st century with new ideas & values, bold initiatives, rather than continually looking back at religious dogma to solve modern problems. Religion can co-exist with science, but apparently not when religious leaders delve into the area of politics.
