I was really disappointed to hear Alice Waters’s Michael Jackson worship as she prattled on about “Saint Michael.” But I was even more disheartened to hear the deafening silence of her interviewers following the eulogy. I will grant Waters that in many ways Jackson was a victim of a dysfunctional family and celebrity culture. But that in no way condones his pedophilia, and it’s incredibly sad that “Truthdig” neglected to offer even a polite follow-up question asking Waters how she squares Jackson’s childhood victimization with his role as predator later in life. I’m afraid it’s equally sickening to hear progressives leave their subjects unchallenged as it is to hear Fox News ignore the Bradley Mannings of this world. Let’s raise the bar a little, people.
