Norman Birnbaum, Contributor
Norman Birnbaum (born 1926) is a New Yorker educated at Williams College and Harvard. He has taught sociology at the London School of Economics, Oxford University, the University of Strasbourg and Amherst College, and is University Professor Emeritus, Georgetown University Law Center Birnbaum is a founding editor of the New Left Review, and is a member of the editorial board of The Nation. He advises parties, unions and political groups on both sides of the Atlantic. His most recent book is “After Progress: American Social Reform and European Socialism in the Twentieth Century”; he is currently writing a memoir.
