Social Security and the Generation Gap

Most Americans think that the big government entitlement programs—Social Security and Medicare—are a good thing. But young and old part company, according to a new Pew report, over the current effectiveness of the programs and what to do about it.

Older Americans drawing Social Security checks basically have a hands-off attitude, while younger people, looking down the road, say the program needs major changes or a complete overhaul.

But a majority of people of all ages have a message for the politicians: Don’t be cutting into benefits to reduce the federal budget deficit. —ARK
