Spitzer Spends Millions on His Own Campaign
Posted on Aug 11, 2013
The former New York governor has given $3.65 million of his own money to campaign for a role in New York city government we didn’t realize was all that exciting.
His opponent, Scott Stringer, spent only $173,355 in the time Spitzer spent $2.46 million.
A Spitzer spokesman said, “Eliot is not a career politician with the power and money of the political and financial establishment propping up his campaign,” reports the Daily News.
Maybe so, but unless his ancestors found a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, something established is propping up that campaign.
Of course the former state attorney general and governor whose career tanked after he was found to have paid for sex has a lot more at stake than a position in city government. It’s career refurbishment, and as anyone who has ever redone his or her bathroom knows, these things always cost more than you expect them to.
