Six Nations Hold U.N. Huddle About Iran
Posted on Apr 8, 2010
On Thursday, President Barack Obama made his case for a fourth round of sanctions against Iran to send a strong message to Tehran about its nuclear program, but some other global powers aren’t on board with that plan just yet—namely, China and Russia.
The UN ambassadors of six world powers have met in New York to discuss possible new sanctions against Iran over its disputed nuclear programme.
China and Russia have so far refused to back the new measures put forward by the US and some European delegations.
Arriving with his Russian counterpart, China’s new ambassador Li Baodong said it was a “very important negotiation”.
The fourth round of sanctions mainly target Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, but not the country’s oil and gas sector.
