President Obama Calls for ‘End to Repression’ in Cuba

On Wednesday, President Obama issued a statement criticizing recent human rights violations in Cuba, “including the tragic death of Orlando Zapata Tamayo, the repression visited upon Las Damas de Blanco,” among other incidents, which he deemed “deeply disturbing.” On a brighter note, he also reiterated his wish to bring on a new era in Cuba-U.S. relations.
