Gadhafi, Son and Aide Buried in Secret Site

Putting a ceremonial end to a 42-year era in Libya, the nation’s late leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi was laid to rest, along with his son Muatassim and his defense minister, Abu Bakr Younis, in an undisclosed location. The three died after their capture last Thursday and Gadhafi’s body had been put on public display in a meat locker until Tuesday’s burial.

Gadhafi may be gone, but the fate of his enormous fortune—reportedly in the astronomical realm of $200 billion—remains to be seen.  —KA

Ibrahim Beitalmal, a senior official on the council, said relatives of the three men were permitted to attend the funeral, including a nephew of Colonel Qaddafi, Mahmoud Hamid. Cellphone photos of the ceremony showed three bodies shortly before the burial, wrapped in white shrouds in coffins of thin wood.

Mr. Beitalmal declined to specify on Tuesday where they were interred or how the location would be kept secret.
