Elizabeth Warren Bags $3 Million

The consumer advocate is off to a great start in her bid to defeat the other Democratic primary challengers and Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown to retake Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat. Warren raised $3 million in the last quarter—double Brown’s haul.
But Brown has been at this for much longer and, according to Reuters, already has $10.5 million in the bank.
True to her progressive appeal, Warren’s campaign is people-powered, with most of her donations coming in small amounts. That’s no surprise given how she made a name for herself watchdogging big money interests. —PZS
More than 11,000 individuals in Massachusetts alone gave to Warren’s campaign, and the vast majority of the contributions were $100 or less.
The fundraising haul, which only covers a portion of the third quarter, is a strong start for Warren, who would face Republican Scott Brown in November 2012 if she wins the Democratic primary in September.
Brown’s campaign said it raised $1.55 million in the third quarter, bringing its stash on hand to $10.5 million.
