Libya’s Moammar Gadhafi is having a hell of a time finding lodging in the New York area. The Brother Leader and Guide of the First of September Great Revolution of the Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya (official title) was chased off his country’s compound in New Jersey only to have his tent on Donald Trump’s property dismantled and his application to pitch in Central Park denied. —PS

Trump returned a reporter’s call Wednesday but refused to answer questions on the record.
In a statement about the dismantling of the tent, he did not name “the tenant.” On Tuesday, the Trump Organization hinted he had been hornswoggled when he agreed to rent his prime acreage.
“We have business partners and associates all over the world,” it said. “The property was leased on a short-term basis to Middle Eastern partners, who may or may not have a relationship to Mr. Gadhafi. We are looking into the matter.”
[...] Bedford [N.Y.] officials — who learned the tent had been pitched on Tuesday — grew impatient with the real estate titan. Before the tent was dismantled at about 4:45 p.m., town attorney Joel Sachs said Trump’s people were not cooperating.
