Zimbabwe Election Goes Forward
Posted on Jun 26, 2008
After months of strife and bloodshed, the presidential runoff in Zimbabwe finally became a reality Friday; however, it hardly seems like an election, considering there’s only one candidate: long-time President Robert Mugabe.
Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai withdrew from the contest because of violence against his supporters.
He told them that if they had to vote to protect themselves from attacks to do so, but described the day as “a shameful humiliation” for the country.
Mr Mugabe has ignored calls from other African leaders to postpone the poll.
