Bush I Backs McCain

John McCain’s recent jockeying to make himself look like a direct heir to Ronald Reagan’s Republican legacy was helped along Monday by George H.W. Bush’s vote of confidence that McCain is indeed the right person to lead the nation as the next president. Bush dismissed the criticism that some conservatives have directed against the McCain candidacy.

The New York Times:

“His character was forged in the crucible of war,” Mr. Bush said at a news conference with Mr. McCain and their wives in an airplane hangar here. “His commitment to America is beyond any doubt. But most importantly, he has the right values and experience to guide our nation forward at this historic moment. And so I’m very proud to endorse John McCain for the presidency of the United States of America.”
