Rather’s $70M Suit Still On
Posted on Jan 9, 2008
Dan Rather himself once warned, “Don’t taunt the alligator until after you’ve crossed the creek,” but he’s still staring down CBS’ toothy maw and refusing to budge in his $70-million lawsuit against his former host network. On Wednesday, a New York Supreme Court justice ruled that (at least for now) Rather’s suit could go forward despite CBS’ bid to have it dismissed.
New York Magazine:
Now that the case will be moving forward, Rather’s lawyer Marty Gold wants CBS to start forking over internal emails and documents to prove his case, including exchanges between network brass and the White House. Naturally, this has CBS lawyers asking the court to limit the scope of the discovery. “It seems pretty clear they don’t want to produce [the documents],” said Gold.
Advantage, Rather: The former CBS anchor’s suit against the network will move forward, at least a little, thanks to the ruling of a Manhattan Supreme Court justice.
