First came January’s “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” faux bomb scare, and now this Boston-area “hoax device” news: MIT sophomore Star Simpson was arrested at gunpoint at Logan airport on Friday for wearing a computer circuit board and wiring on her black sweatshirt, with “Socket To Me” written on the back. Oops.

She was arraigned at East Boston District Court Friday afternoon and ordered held on $750 bail. The judge also ordered her to stay away from Logan Airport.
“I’m shocked and appalled that somebody would wear this type of device to an airport,” [State Police Maj. Scott] Pare said.
Simpson was “extremely lucky she followed the instructions or deadly force would have been used,” Pare said. “She’s lucky to be in a cell as opposed to the morgue.”

“She said that it was a piece of art and she wanted to stand out on career day,” State Police Maj. Scott Pare said of Simpson at a news conference on Friday.
