
Rep. Robert Bob Ney (R-Ohio) announced he would not seek reelection in November. Ney, who has been under investigation for corruption related to Jack Abramoff, was pressured by the House Republican leadership to step down at the end of his term. Bob Ney is the third Republican congressman to lose his seat due to corruption charges, following the resignations of Randy Duke Cunningham and Tom DeLay.

With a critical midterm election just 92 days away, GOP leaders are moving aggressively to cut the party off from scandal-plagued candidates and hoping the taint does not spread.
But Democrats and their allies are working just as hard to tar Republicans broadly with what they have labeled a “culture of corruption.”
