Yahoo! health columnist Patrick Moore continues his five-part series on what he terms President Bush’s “untreated alcoholism.”

Today’s update: “Mr. Bush lives by the creed, ‘Stay the Course!’ But that course is disastrous on everything from the environment to health care to education to national security. He is like a drunk who insists on driving even as the passengers in the car scream, ‘Stop! For God’s sake, stop!’ ”

In the United States, we celebrate strength above all else. But what really defines strength? If George Bush were to treat his alcoholism, I suspect that his swaggering persona would fade away, forgotten and forgiven as quickly as a defiant child’s naughtiness. I believe Mr. Bush, like many alcoholics full of bravado, is terrified inside and very much alone. Without having the core of integrity that comes from embracing principles like Humility, Willingness, and Forgiveness, Mr. Bush continues to suffer, as does our country and, indeed, the world.

Humility - If arrogance is the hallmark of an untreated alcoholic, humility is the indicator of recovery. Humility could transform George Bush’s life and his ability to effectively govern. Imagine, for example, how different America’s relationship to the United Nations and our allies would be if the U.S. were known for humility rather than aggression and bullying.
