A microscopic look at the human immunodeficiency virus that can lead to AIDS.

According to a report by the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. porn industry attempted to block an investigation into the HIV infection of one of its actors, Derrick Burts, illustrating the dangers in an increasingly unregulated industry.

The investigation found that two porn actors who had sex with Burts were HIV-positive. Burts’ own HIV diagnosis in October shut down the production of several companies. —JCL

Los Angeles Times:

Health officials say two male porn actors were HIV-positive when they had sex with Derrick Burts, an adult film performer whose HIV diagnosis in October caused several large production companies to suspend filming.

The report indicated that adult film companies were stymieing the public health investigation into the HIV infection. “Limited cooperation from many adult film industry companies restricted this contact investigation. Rarely did industry legal counsel give information for investigation,” the report said.

The report, written by Dr. Francisco Meza, a physician with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Epidemic Intelligence Service on loan to the California Department of Public Health, illustrated how public health officials have been unable to conduct an extensive, thorough investigation quickly.

@ TDoff: A porn Czar?  While the obvious humor of that phrase isn’t lost on me, I think you worry too much.  And why does the idea of regulating porn make you think of only team jesus?  What if the oversight came from the scientific community in the form of condom subsidies? Now that would be money well spent, what with the whole HIV THING, DUDE! - TheEnd

You mean people in the u.s. are ‘doing sex’? How unchristian can
people be. This needs immediate and direct attention and much
study, research and investigation to stop these horrible acts of
ungodly pleasure of the flesh.

Good thinking! We need to regulate the Porn Industry. Of course, as soon as we appoint a Porn Czar, it will firmly cement the image of the US as a ‘Christian Nation, in whose ‘god’ we trust’, in the eyes of the world that so admires US now. Osama, on the other hand, will ROFLHAO. It will also be fun to watch the eyeballs pop out of the hypocritical GOPers and TPers in the House, (most of who watch porn while waiting to vote on bills in the chamber) as they froth-at-the-mouth in frenetic rage, knowing that their bill disallowing of salary for the Porn Czar will be bypassed by the White House. It will also be interesting to see which of the major US corporations that make a significant portion of their profits from porn support a Porn Czar, and how deadly the infighting becomes to support their particular candidates for the post.
BTW, if the current porn folks keep ‘Dragging their feet on the HIV probe’, they are liable to end up with AIDS-of-the-toes.
