Near the beginning of the year, WikiLeaks supporters released a collection of U.S. State Department documents that inadvertently contained the names of confidential sources. Unlike previous releases, the names were not redacted.

The publication seems to mean that an unknown number of lives and livelihoods are in jeopardy. —ARK

Der Spiegel:

The ongoing conflict between WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and his former German spokesman Daniel Domscheit-Berg has led to the accidental release of confidential data that was in WikiLeaks’ possession. Since the beginning of the year, an encrypted file has been circulating on the Internet containing the collection of around 251,000 US State Department documents that WikiLeaks obtained in spring 2010 and made public in November 2010.

... At the end of 2010, Domscheit-Berg finally returned to WikiLeaks a collection of various files that he had taken with him, including the encrypted cables. Shortly afterwards, WikiLeaks supporters released a copy of this data collection onto the Internet as a kind of public archive of the documents that WikiLeaks had previously published. The supporters clearly did not realize, however, that the data contained the original cables, as the file was not only encrypted but concealed in a hidden subdirectory.

“wikileaks: Totally false that any WikiLeaks sources have been exposed or will be exposed. NYT drooling, senile, and evil”

Who’s telling the truth?

Who do you think? Since the NYT routinely lies about almost everything it’s not hard to work out. I don’t read newspapers any more at all, except for the arts section, and this kind of thing is a confirmation of my decision.

While the NYT is certainly senile and evil, I was unaware that it drooled.

According to Wikileaks, this is false…no names have been published. They tweeted thus:

“wikileaks: Totally false that any WikiLeaks sources have been exposed or will be exposed. NYT drooling, senile, and evil”

Who’s telling the truth?

Is transparency essential to democratic government?
Are we going to be able to attain and maintain transparency in government?
What is necessary in order to attain and maintain transparency in democratic government?
How can individual citizens help to attain and maintain that transparency?

More kill the messenger media focus.  So far there is not a single instance of a life lost due to Wikileaks which certainly can not be said about the policies of the U.S. Government that were revealed.  But you can count on the corporate media to exploit any opportunity to discredit Assange while doings its best to ignore and make excuses regarding the revelations of corruption and injustice that are revealed.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

It’s been pointed out before degrading one’s enemy may make him more dangerous.  The powers that be have done a lot of damage to Assange, maybe even more than he has done to himself, so his operation is going to be less careful to make nice.  As Machiavelli said, ‘If you strike at a prince, you had better kill him.’  The U.S. government will probably try to correct their oversight in this regard before too long.  Fortunately others are ready to take up the general project.

Out the bums..

Anyhow, it’s entirely likely this ‘accident’ will serendipitously provide grounds for
the US government to ‘take off the kid gloves’ and go get Assange.. torture him,
and convict him, or just disappear him..

Adios!
