Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected to sign the abortion law soon.

As if women facing abortions were not troubled enough, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected to soon sign a law that will require them “to have a sonogram and hear a description of the fetus, including whether it has developed fingers, toes or internal organs” before having the operation.

In a feeble attempt at mercy, the state’s legislators have provided for some exceptions: Women who live more than 100 miles from a clinic are not required to observe the 24-hour waiting period between the sonogram and the operation, and those who have been raped, are underage or are enduring abnormal pregnancies do not have to hear the fetus’ description. —ARK

The Wall Street Journal:

We believe that when they see the miracle of life some will change their minds,” said Dan Patrick, a Republican state senator who represents part of Houston and who sponsored the legislation, which passed both houses of the state legislature last week.

... The Texas bill also calls for a 24-hour waiting period between the sonogram and the abortion, except for women who live more than 100 miles from a clinic. Opponents say that waiting period places more burdens on women.

... Under the Texas law, all women seeking an abortion must have a sonogram but those who have been raped, are minors or who are carrying a fetus with abnormalities are exempt from hearing the description of the image. All women seeking abortions can sign a waiver and choose not to view the image or hear the fetus’s heartbeat.

You are wise Allan in Detroit.  So where does a mother stand? According to some who proclaim to be “feminists”  the father has no say on that life which can be snuffed out or sucked out at the snap of a finger by the mother. That life itself is denied any rights. Amazing how laws come into being without a second thought
as to the morality of it all.

Wow, having an expectant mother view her unborn child moving around on a sonogram before she aborts her or him!  How can you protect the abortion industry lie that its just a “mass of cells” once you start doing that?  Next thing you know, they might even admit that the fetus has a heartbeat at 6 weeks, measurable brain waves at 10 weeks and somehow doesn’t just magically turn into a “real baby” the moment she or her emerges from the birth canal.
Of course the Republicans are hypocrites when they call themselves “pro-life” and the next moment vote to rescind vital human services for the poor.  On the other hand, fellow progressives are being equally hypocritical when we say we believe in protecting the vulnerable and then deny personhood and life to the most vulnerable segment of the human family.

The US could free itself of the inanities of Texas and it’s governor, Rick Perry, if the Congress passed a law requiring that all voters in US state elections first undergo a cranial MRI, and prove that they have at least two functioning neurons and one functioning synapse, before being allowed to cast a ballot.

Since the repukes have taken over in January they have introduced over 960 bills to force women into the social position of that of breeding stock. Some have redefined rape, bills to execute the mother if she has a miscarriage,14 years in prison for having an abortion, forced “religious speeches” against abortion, forced extended wait periods of up to another 72 hours after several other roadblocks have been constructed-the way to deny an abortion if the fetus is to far along, denial of abortion even of the life of the mother is endangered. The list is endless and gets crazier by the day. While they cut safety nets yet refuse to cut war spending shows what hypocrites the GOP is.

The war on women really started with great zeal under G.W.Bush where he even went in and dictated that women in other countries cannot have abortions.

It is none of the governments business to interfere with the personal lives of individuals. This is not small government but extremely invasive government. What next, a tracking device inserted during the typical gyn exam to track all sexual activity, pregnancies and miscarriages or abortions?I don’t think that day is far off.

If these so called concerned elected hacks claim they care then why are the cutting medical, food programs, cutting education, busting unions, repressing workers wages, eliminating programs to try to keep the water, air and environment safe for all of these unwanted excessive humans. If it is just to keep the cannon fodder supplied,it is time to make the robotic warrior for the bloodthirsty GOP and their wars. That might make more jobs but probably for China.

Thought that cruel and unusual punishment is illegal. It is alive and well in America today. How many of these so called men,as most of the members who have gone insane on this topic, have fathered children only to walk away. When there is to much of anything, such as the over population we have today, it has no real value and it certainly is no miracle.

And it is the GOP that resent poor people or the 98%+ of us that are not in their status money wise. By all means you have to have these unwanted babies, don’t ask for help from the government because we sent the jobs over seas and you cannot afford to have them.People can’t afford the kids they have now.Did you know that if you want to be sterilized, you have to be of a certain age, have a certain number of children, your medical files have to be gone over by the ethical boards of hospitals and they decide for you what is best, even if it is not, for you. This is no longer a free country.Women are not people but instead baby makers.

Birth control is the next goal and it has been for decades with the anti choice people.Churches should have no right to decide to force their views on women who may not feel or be on the same wave length.

Yeah John Boner-get out of my crotch,it is to crowded up there with all of your fanatical religious freaks.

Think God doesn’t like abortion or only if he does it?

“Happy shall he be that taketh and dashes they little ones against the stones.” Psalms 131:9

“Behold,I corrupt your see and spread dung upon your face.” Malachi 2:3

“Stone your bad children to death.” Duet. 21:18-21

There are also other bible verses that tell of God ripping the fetus out of the womb…Abortion???Yes. So it is okay with God to abort fetuses. Cannibalism is fine with the Christian God too.

“And thou shall eat the fruit of thy own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters which the Lord thy God hath given thee.” Duet. 28:13

Seems as if that God stuff they are forcing upon the population of America and Mike Huckabee wants all Americans indoctrinated to his brand there of,at gunpoint, something he said in a live speech which did hit the Internet until his clean up squad tried to erase.Since so much of the bible is negative, violent and cruel, I fail to understand how they call they God kind and loving.

And, of course, Texas is known for their social support systems and the degree in which they give support for young children. I am sure that is the case?

This is what happens when Republicans are given public office
and governing power.  This is a travesty of the first order and the
people need to put a stop to it. Writing or calling Congressman or
state legislature politicians is a ridiculous waste of time and money.
Political activism is the only way to wrest this country back from
those who would be right-wing authoritarians.  BTW:  Right-wing
authoritarianism is the dictionary definition for fascism.  With a state
that is sobbing about budget problems, Texas, it will start paying for
women who cannot afford sonograms or whose insurance does not
cover it adding to the state’s already strapped programs?  It is a way to
deny the poor and middle class other services that are needed to have a
decent life.  This will undoubtedly cause more women to attempt illegal
abortions and more women to die because of it.  Sleazy Perry and his
legislature are pre-meditated murderers.

Religion is pushing its way into Americans’ lives via the Republican
Party.  Abortion is a religious issue not a state issue.  Women’s right to
their own bodies is a religious concern, not a state matter.  There needs
to be a nationwide discussion about religion exerting its strength to
affect the lives of a nation of multifaiths and nonbelievers.  This should
be Supreme Court adjudicated.

A couple of questions that immediately comes to mind to be asked in
the public forum:  At what moment after conception is a fetus a human
being?  Why is the state not the arbiter of moral issues and should
refrain from religious perspectives?

The law should only apply to white women. That is who the white Governors don’t want to have abortions. The only abortions white women should have is if the child is mixed raced. That is the real abortion battle. White southern men who are afraid of this country no longer having a white majority keeping white women from having a choice.

Please, but if anyone can look at this Perry character as well as his fellow henchmen in Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, and in other states and in various elected positions and not come away with a queasy feeling that this nation is on the verge of a psychiatric breakdown, then what is coming your way in the not too distant future will be well deserved!
