Violent Response to Occupy Is No SurprisePosted on Nov 27, 2011
The violent police assaults in response to the Occupy movement are proof that Occupy has hit a nerve; Britain is preparing for the demise of the euro; meanwhile, the student wing of Occupy tries to encourage higher education. These discoveries and more below. On a regular basis, Truthdig brings you the news items and odds and ends that have found their way to Larry Gross, director of the USC Annenberg School for Communication. A specialist in media and culture, art and communication, visual communication and media portrayals of minorities, Gross helped found the field of gay and lesbian studies. This generation does not seem to understand the true nature and purpose of the police who are beating or spraying them up. I was in my early 20s in the mid 1960s and I remember the events then as if the happened last week. This generation does not know [yet] what real repression is like, when the police start shooting those protesting with live ammunition. My generation suffered not only beatings but also the murder of whites, blacks, browns, and natives. Have you heard of Kent State? Do you know what COINTELPRO was and what it did to Chicanos, Native Americans, Black Panthers, and others? If you haven’t I suggest to start learning the history of the police [pigs] then so that you can understand their violence now.

You may want to wait on that unsubstantiated story by
Naomi Wolf. I was researching this yesterday after I
came across it, but it lacks proof.
While there could be something to be concerned about
as far as the FBI or DHS, right now we simply don’t
know but Truthout has filed a FOIA request concerning
this question but as of yet hasn’t received any data.
Here’s the link to Truthout’s article:

I agree with the Crooks and Liars article here:
“It’s a factless, incendiary assertion dripping in
hyperbole, grounded in speculation that’s been going
on for a couple of weeks now. It began with a tweet.
A tweet from Michael Moore speculating that the
coordination seemed like something being coordinated
by DHS and sanctioned, nay, possibly even requested,
by the Obama administration.
Here are the two links Wolf provides as evidence: One
Report thisto Wonkette; the other toWashingtonsblog.com. Both
articles point back to this absurd article on the
Examiner.com site (a very, very right-wing Phil
Anschutz, write-out-of-your-butt-with-no-evidence
kind of site). Washingtons Blog goes one step
further”

“The Shocking Truth About the Crackdown on Occupy”
Report thisshould be front and center on Truthdig, not more or less buried in Larry’s List. Why? Because it clearly points out the deep significance of the Occupy Movement, which too few people understand. Everywhere they are acting, every action they are organizing, they are exposing the superimposition of the economic system upon democracy and the well-being of 99% of the American population.
