U.S. Peace Negotiator Cancels Trip Over Tensions With Israel

U.S. Embassy Tel Aviv / Matty Stern

U.S. special envoy George Mitchell arrives in Israel during a 2009 trip to the Middle East.

U.S.-Israel relations have taken another frosty turn since the announcement of 1,600 new Israeli housing units in East Jerusalem. The special American envoy to the region, George Mitchell, has indefinitely delayed a visit and the beginning of new negotiations while the U.S. waits for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to demonstrate a commitment to the peace process.

But Hillary Clinton, although talking tough, isn’t buying that diplomatic ties between the two countries have never been so strained.

AP via Google:

Clinton restated U.S. “dismay and disappointment” with the announcement but disputed the perception of the relationship in crisis.

“I don’t buy that,” she said. “I have been around a long time, not that long, but a long time. We have an absolute commitment to Israel’s security. We have a close, unshakable bond between the United States and Israel and between the American and Israeli people who share common values and a commitment to a democratic future for the world.”

“U.S.-Israel relations have taken another frosty turn”

How does this affect the pallet bricks of billions in cash being delivered to Israel? Oh.. I see. Just more empty rhetoric. Sorry - thought something might actually happen there for a moment. Silly me.

If you don’t want to get your ass kicked anymore and have everything
taken from you, you can switch from democrat to republican.  Everything
will still be taken from you, but you can get in on the ass kicking.

Palestinians should consider converting to Judaism for a while.  Imagine
thousands of Jews being treated this way!

“We have a close, unshakeable bond between the United States and Israel and between the American and Israeli people who share common values and a commitment to a democratic future for the world.”(As if we don’t share common human values with the Palestinians and their wish to form their own government with as much democracy as they can muster under their constricted circumstances? And are we not increasing their slavery by refusing to intercede in their favor?)
What twaddle!  The bond is between Congresspersons who need campaign contributions and the AIPAc types who are blind to Israel’s sins of commission and omission.
The tighter the bond between US-AIPAC and Israel gets, the more the sensible people in the world will turn against Israel’s policies and sympathize with the beleaguered Palestinians who are so disempowered by occupation and poverty that they can do nothing but fire off a few rockets from time to time just to prove to themselves that they are still alive.
If the US cannot bring itself to speak truth to Israel and its supporters, then the world as a whole will have to find a way to intercede nonviolently in the name of common sense and end this deliberately debilitating stalemate. (And by the way, where are the Arab states in this intercession?)
As it stands now, the US seems to be doing more harm than good by playing favorites at the same time it pretends to be “helping both sides reach agreement.”

Did someone find a backbone somewhere in the closet?

The asylum called Israel is being run by the patients.

I don’t believe for a nano second that anyone outside of our suck-up
government, and the usual lackeys and apologists, has an “unshakable
bond” with Israel.  Clinton, and her hubby, are kiss-ass stooges furthering
their own agenda.

Israel’s Palestinian policy is disgusting deplorable, inhumane, and it has
been rammed down American’s throat by people of her ilk.
