U.S. Hikers in Iran Sentenced to 8 Years

American hikers, from left, Shane Bauer, Sarah Shourd and Josh Fattal at the Esteghlal Hotel in Tehran in May of last year. Shourd was released on bail a few months later.

Iranian authorities have sentenced two American hikers to eight years in prison for espionage, according to an unnamed source on Iran state television.

The men have been jailed since their arrest along the Iran-Iraq border in July 2009 with a female companion who was later freed. They are said to have 20 days to appeal Saturday’s convictions, which Iranian judicial officials handed down without having publicly presented any evidence. —BF

Los Angeles Times:

Their case was tried by a branch of the country’s politically charged Revolutionary Court, which handles national security cases and has been accused of failing to abide by international or even Iranian standards of jurisprudence, especially when it comes to defendants’ rights.

The two men’s lawyer, Massoud Shafei, said he had not been officially informed of any sentence for his clients. He and the two men’s supporters had hoped the men would be freed as a gesture of goodwill during the Islamic holy Month of Ramadan.

If you do your research all 3 had conversations and supposed connections with AIPAC / Israel Lobby.

They definitely had connections with Israeli groups protesting government policy, yet those groups were/are supported by ones who created such policy.

Similar to 9/11 so-called Israeli students working as painters in WTC towers under contract of brother Bush. If you think they were only painting when afterward they were found laughing and cheering as WTC towers went down, you must be sadly mistaken.

Iran is continually being prodded by Israel, USA and it’s affiliates. Similar to Gaza mass prison / concentration camp. As if you missed these stories on TD, Democracy Now, Liveleak and others.

These 3 blatantly knew this as part of being journalists and went anyway. Clearly they put themselves in harms way for no other reason but to antagonize.

All it takes for most Hebrew travelers is to ask permission to enter Iran via a letter. You don’t even need a passport. Most requests are granted. Mind you, under strict supervision til proven to be benign.

Only ones that are rejected are known Israeli fundamentalists and spies or known previous attackers.

Iran acts as a border guard country of gateway to China. Same as other Chinese border countries. It is Chinese whom ultimately give the orders.

If you’d spend a month at UN or even a week you’d know clearly the global game of monopoly being played out.
It’s a war of meetings, secret meetings, agreements, rejections, deals, sub-deals etc. not in a 2 party system but all parties and interests wold wide.

If you can’t figure out this simple situation then you surely would get eaten alive in the first day at the UN.

To them it’s just business, business of human cargo and other resources.

Anyone who figures it out without adequate protection is ridiculed ... up to assassinated.

Starting to get it yet?

Last but not least.
Notice: to ones whom been nuking Lawful websites that I present on TD. We know who you are as we setup blackhole servers and backtrack servers prior to mentioned websites, and it’s going to cost you big time.
Example: http://www.marcstevens.net is still down after being hacked and nuked. Yet millions already have this info and mirror sites are up. You loose Lamerz.

ROFL ...
Re: Passing Through and omop

You two should really check other media besides US Main Stream Mafia News ... like maybe the locals of that area.

Oh, you don’t know the language? That’s too bad, you must be part of the uneducated working class of US of A ... or shills for the ruling class, or maybe even jews from AIPAC?

Go learn from locals before you look like outright idiots. All it takes is a few calls raspberry
While you’re at it go read and learn Prince by Machiavelli to see how the world Monarchy system is setup and operates ... because We The People won’t fall for your misinformation, lies and overall crap.

This and other such incidents are nothing but photo-ops for ruling class world wide to say; Hey, don’t go there, don’t find out, keep dumb and stupid, don’t support the free people of that area.

You didn’t see Ahmadinejad get arrested while USA, did you?
This means they are all in cahoots together [working together as a group] to finalize their global plan.

For the last 2,000+ yrs all abuses and conflicts were started by same group of Europeans / Merchant Jews bent of world domination.
That’s a well and extensively documented fact.

Game is up, we know how they/Elites operate and what they are up to.
Starting to get it yet?

As for “they execute homosexuals and sentence raped girls to execution by stoning”?
—Well you really need to look at 2.5 Million individuals in US prisons for much lesser crimes being tortured unnecessarily, unduly and Unlawfully.
—US citizens being killed [no,my mistake] OUTRIGHT MURDERED just for asking questions of officials and officers in your own country
—US being in 180+ countries installing Juntas, murderous Military and gorilla armies to spread fear and kill off the locals.
—Teaching and promoting rape, torture, dismemberment, mutilations, murder and rest of abuses at the School of Americas and others.
—- USA and it’s partners have the biggest slave trade of children and young girls ever known. Most never reach the age of puberty and even fewer never reach the age of 16. That’s what’s hidden in your super-rich class mansions, private hidden whore houses and legalized slave trade [called jobs], especially the military ones.
—I bet your don’t know that industrial military complex has 1,000’s of kids hidden away, at their disposal and for all kinds of experiments.
... I could fill up a 100,000 pages on here of USA abuses, and then some

No wonder other areas of this Planet are sending a message back.

You might want to look at, learn and straighten out your own country and your practices before you mouth off about others. If you ever get your shit together then you might lead by example, as was intended by your “Founding Fathers”, instead of cruelty, murder and bullshit.

But PatrickHenry ”  having these very nice,
young people rot in a jail cell in another country?” is not quite cricket.

Its reported that they were taken from a ” well known toruist area” [
thousands of people from all over the world visit that specific area
between the mountains of Iraq and Iran] ask any travel agency PH.

And by the way what makes you think you are a real nice guy, hey PH?

I don’t think the Iranian government is any more sane than our government,
PatrickHenry dear.  They may not have the political collateral to waterboard
prisoners, but if they did, I’m sure they would, too.  Seeing as they execute
homosexuals and sentence raped girls to execution by stoning.  And there is
officially no separation between the predominant religious institution and the
state.

Besides, what is your point, ultimately?  To promote having these very nice,
young people rot in a jail cell in another country?  (Seeing as your Foolocracy
link has been falsified by Mother Jone’s reporting on wikileaks.)

You trade away other people’s freedom so easily for the sake of your political
point.  Making you like a real nice guy?  What sets you apart from anyone
working for either of these governments?

I doubt it, the Iranians have proven more sane than our present Government.

Three students from the USA with enough cash to pay for a
transatlantic trip to Iraq/Iran with bikes undertake a trip to the frontier
that separates Iran from Iraq and get nabbed by Iranians and are
tagged with spying.

Lets consider that to go from A country to Z country requires that one
has a passport and a visa as well as money to pay for a roundtrip. Did
they “buy the bikes in Iraq or the US?”. How did they get directions from
the local population if they did not speak Arabic or Iranian? Or they
found Iraqis and Iranians in the mountains of those countries that
spoke English?

Or better still what were their experiences as “hikers” in the US prior to
their jaunts in Iraq and Iran? And lastly how would we [US] have treated
a couple of Iranain “students” who biked into Arizona from Mexico?

  Sheesh.

I read in a Motherjones article that wikileaks released a military report showing
that the hikers were taken from inside Iraq and in the vicinity of a well-known
tourist area.  Journalists corraborated this story with two local eyewitnesses
who saw the Iranian border people on the Iraqi side.

This shouldn’t surprise people - because border corruption is rampant
everywhere in the world - especially in war torn areas.

I don’t believe they are C.I.A. spies because of the way this military report
dissed them (they call them instigators and leftists) and with someone trying to
cover their butt by saying they were warned.  Warned by whom?  They were
traveling independently and spoke with locals about this popular hiking route.  I
think they just throw these statements into their reports *in the event that*
politics unfold in a given manner.

So much for the hikers, whether it’s the American government or the Iranians.

I also don’t think they’re with the C.I.A. because Cat Stevens has taken up their
cause.  He himself has been targeted by American Intelligence.  They wouldn’t
even let him come into the U.S. to give a concert because he had changed his
name and converted to Islam.

One of the hikers is a journalist fluent in Arabic;  all three have been serious
students of the Middle East.  They are all graduates of UC Berkeley.  They are
sympathetic to Palestinian rights issues, and have written on the subject.

I recently read that all three are of Jewish heritage;  of course that brings out
the anti-Semitic fruitcakes on both the left and the right.

Over at the L.A. TImes, there are all these foaming at the mouth right wing fox
news lunatics spewing their hatred all over a left-wing writer’s board - a
woman who is trying to help their case.

It’s pretty sad to see this different variety of lunatic in full fruition here at
Truth-dig.  I hope the management leaves their comments up just so people
can see how deeply sick they are.

@ rianrough

Everyone has The Right to travel anywhere they desire as long as they don’t enter someone’s home/castle without permission, don’t damage their property or harm anyone. That’s why.

Iran is actually a beautiful area with lots of history. Most people are friendly to visitors and travelers.

For my second trek I traveled all over Europe, Asia and part of Africa, mostly with a Kengal [dog], and I’ve never had any problems til I reached that thing called Israel.
Let’s just say, they are a bunch of Zionist, gorilla warfare, fanatical, egotistical, Fascist bastards with a ‘I am better than Gods’ complex to boot.
Much worse than Russian Mafia, Yakuza, Triads, Congo Gorillas, Indian Police and even the most lawless place on Earth; Khyber Pass Traders put together.

There are 3 basic rules which parents should have taught everyone.
1. Keep the peace = don’t harm anyone in any way. Actually, treat people the way you want to be treated.
2. Don’t damage property
3. Honor your agreements
All Laws between men and women stem from these.

Borders, fences, walls, territories, etc. are only lines drawn in the sand. It’s a matter of perspective.

Those idiots clearly went out after being told to stay out. They breached the peace. Now they pay.

“Core laws???”
+ Core Laws are ones that have been given to us by our creators [plural]
http://vodpod.com/watch/3129683-enki-sumerian-tablet-translation-ch-1-2-of-6
... as Natural Law, Universal Law, Sovereign Law and Common Law of the Land ... all originally as part of One Law system. You should look them up some time.

+ You can find them [in part] as Egyptian Law of MAAT / MU’AT, Egyptian Book of the Dead under “I have not ...” (about 180 of them), Buddhist Principles, 10 commandments, Bill of Rights, Constitutions, Greek Laws, all philosophy combined, “To Serve And To Protect” by Peace Officers [not police / policy officers], original Hindu principles, etc. etc.

“(A corporation is a person)” ... is only an account/insurance/Bond, same as your Birth Certificate Account/Bond or Citizenship Account/Bond. It’s also a fictitious thing for purposes of Commerce, Trade and as part of Merchant Law only = Maritime Admiralty Law of the seas.
It has no power on Land unless you give it some with your signature in blue ink ... Zero, Nil, None!

“More like crude military and economic power, but perhaps that is “the people to back ‘em up”. “
+ Hogwash! ... “We The People” is a document to oppose such draconian oppression of crude military and economic power.
Get it right!

and have fun learning smile

@ PatrickHenry
+ thanx for link
Most don’t know that it was ones who posed as Jewish / Israeli students who painted Twin Towers and done much of renovations before 9/11. Later they were caught laughing it up and cheering as Twin Towers fell.
After being caught by Police, FBI and others those Israelis were let go as if they had immunity. This is well documented even by MSM at the time. Some of their vans were still fully loaded with explosives and even then they were let go.

but…

don’t these 2 “hikers” look awfully jewish to you?

sure enough…  check it out…

they are jews…

now, why would 2 jews somewhat familiar with the situation and antagonisms in M.E hike incognito to Iran for?

it’s kind of like 2 (pick your ME nationality except israel) walking by gitmo, taking pictures for the sole purpose of tourist endeavors…

thus why ameriKans (and even truthdig’s) propensity to slant the news by calling them hikers when it’s clear to all who and what they truly were.

Mmm…  let’s see…  aren’t 81 US congressmen on israel junkets now…  BTW, do you know how many US congressmen are jewish?  Look it up.  What’s the proportion of jews in general population?  What gives?

Connect the dots yet?

Yeah, just wait, comments will soon say that I’m the one that’s antisemitic because I have only one passport and only one allegiance and I put America and her interests first.

Somehow, they’re always the victim even when they work us over…

manipulating America in yet another war better fought with goyim blood that jew blood:  Syria…

and then Iran…

and then…

etc…

it will never end…

USA continues where British, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese left off ... now in over 180 countries. Same Merchant & Banking system supporting it all.

If they follow the script we will have WW3 soon, very soon. The Super-rich against everyone else.
If that happens 99% of life on earth will be toasted to charcoal.

Stiff punishment, but ignorance is no excuse.  They should have looked into the ramifications of their actions before they set out.  They got a trial at least, more than those poor souls in Guantanamo.

American should once again keep its nose out of other nations business.

Maybe the U.S. can offer a prisoner exchange with any Irani nationals we have sitting in our jails.

just like all US NGO’s all over the world. Always hiring very young recruits.

(i.e. why does US Aid refuse to have its books and personnel rosters audited in Gaza? [documented and verified and irrefutable]  )
