Turkey, Palestinians Don’t Approve of Israel’s Gaza ProbePosted on Jun 14, 2010
Israel is not amenable to the idea of a U.N.-sponsored international investigation into last month’s flotilla raid near Gaza, but it has come up with its own proposal for an inquiry into the incident. However, Israel’s probe has failed to gain the approval of its estranged former ally, Turkey, as well as that of the Palestinians. —KA

melpol, How do the sudanese and Darfur relate to the Turks and Palestinians?
Hard pressed to find an angelic view of Israelis anywhere and if you scratch the surface I doubt Darfur would be the place.
Capt Suave, Bosnia only has 4.7 mill and was the subject of massive intervention by the U.N. The Israelis have demonstrated much larger crimminality and have, by the grace of the U.S., avoided a worldwide embargo.

I notice in the introduction the name Tony Blair appears. He is supposed to be some kind of a peace envoy. Isn’t this guy actually some kind of a war criminal for his participation in the arrangement of the Iraq War? Are we really supposed to listen to his two bits worth regarding this crime on the high seas?
Actually, it doesn’t seem to matter who conducts the investigation and what the results are. If unfavourable to Israel the state will simply disregard the findings. This happened with the Goldstone Report as you may recall. The Report was simply avoided or criticized out of existence. And, true to form of course, the US politicians fell in line and criticized the Report as well. It was just another case of unfair criticism of Israel, the U.S.‘s best friend and ally.
So, the message seems pretty clear to me. It doesn’t really matter who conducts the investigation. Israel will not believe or accept the results anyway. And, you can bet your last Federal Reserve dollar that the U.S. politicians will there in fine teamwork fashion downplaying and critizing the results. Why even bother with an investigation if we already know what will happen?
In the final analysis then, what is the world complaining about? It just doesn’t matter who conducts the investigation because Israel always wins. So, why not let the State conduct its own investigation into itself? The results will the same anyway? Right? Meaning of course that Israel will continue to do want it wants to do. And, I think everybody knows what that is by now.

The war in South Sudan and Darfur is about stealing land from black Africans. Arabs have already seized 1/3 of the continent and murdered over 1 million residents including women and children. 50 thousand Arabs have recently crossed the border arriving with their belongings and flocks. Sudanese Arabs took them to empty villages cleared by the government. 25 million Arabs will eventually settle on stolen land. The ethnic cleansing in Sudan is attempting to change the demographic character of black African lands by importing Arab settlers, as in Darfur, Nubia and Mauritania. Arabs are guilty of being the biggest land robbers in modern history, Jews look like angels in comparison.

Resolution 1860, a calling for the cessation of hostilities, is by no means a Resolution against Israel and only passed becasue Israel gave it the go ahead. In fact, in typical fashion, the resolution called for the disarming of Hamas, but not Israel.
“From 1948 thru today, the UN has passed 223 resolutions concerning Israel. Through the end of 2009 the UN has passed a total of 1907 resolutions. So, 11% of the resolutions passed by the UN have dealt with Israel.”
Again, I asked you to name a Resolution AGAINST Israel that has been passed in the last 10 years. 1860 doesn’t criticize Israel in the least, and actually serves Israel’s interests (by demanding the disarmament of Hamas), so it doesn’t come close.
“What other single country on earth has garnered that much attention?”
What other single country on earth has flouted international law so frequently and with such impunity for 60 years?
“Cambodia, China under Mao, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq under Saddam, Russia under Stalin, Uganda under Amin, Rwanda?”
Which of these countries has invaded and tacked it’s neighbors as frequently as Israel?
Which of these countries has been occupying other people’s territory for 43 years and violating the 4th Geneva Convention by building on that occupied land?
Which of these countries threatens to take us into a third world war?

Re: Diamond,June 14 at 6:17 pm.
Diamond,
As usual, you are precise and specific in what you post.
Thank you for taking your time to write the above outstanding Re. Yes,it is outstanding in precision, elaboration and specificity in its obviuos condemnation of what Israel has been doing against the besieged people of Gaza, for the last three years. Enough is enough.
I have the whole text of the Goldstone Report. I reprinted it out when it was released and published on the Internet. It comprises more than 500 pages;to be precise,it is made-up of 575 pages, including the tools Justice Goldstone and his team used in their investigations to come-up with such an outstanding report. The report includes also all communications that occurred between Goldstone and various organizations ranging from the United Nations Human Rights Council to the Israeli government. In short, the report is,indeed, monumental in its scope of investigations and conclusions.
Hence,to be specific as you have been in pointing out specific aspects of the report in order to pin down Israel’s crimes against humanity takes not only patience and complete comprehension of the essence of the Goldstone Report, but also determination to expose what some rude Zionist propagandists trying to blame Turkey and the humanitarian activists for the crimes committed by Israel like a bunch pirates in the high sea against the Turkish ships and their humanitarian passengers. That is why I have greatly appreciated reading your above Re and felt I had to comment on its content.
I usually do not care to comment on such a topic, unless I find it necessary to do so because of being impressed by something in a post,or I find it necessary to expose a distortion or a lie or to communicate with a reasonble Zionist I feel he or she deserves my time for the possibility or probability of establishing a constructive dialogue with that may produce some benefits for both the Palestinians and Israelis alike. Those kind of open-minded Zionists are usually rare, but based on my 50 years of experience in this conflict they do exist. I had some success with some of them in the past.
If anyone is interested in checking the validity of the points you have cited from the Goldstone Report in your above Re,all one has to do is read only the following pages of the report 9-19.
Diamond-Thank you, once again, for an outstanding post which clearly leaves no chance for Israel to deny its unjustified atrocities against the 1.5 million people of Gaza. Much appreciated.

Questions, Questions
Who is Afraid of a Real Inquiry?
By URI AVNERY
“If a real Commission of Inquiry had been set up (instead of the pathetic excuse for a commission), here are some of the questions it should have addressed:
1. What is the real aim of the Gaza Strip blockade?
2. If the aim is to prevent the flow of arms into the Strip, why are only 100 products allowed in (as compared to the more than 12 thousand products in an average Israeli supermarket)?
3. Why is it forbidden to bring in chocolate, toys, writing material, many kinds of fruits and vegetables (and why cinnamon but not coriander)?
4. What is the connection between the decision to forbid the import of construction materials for the replacement or repair of the thousands of buildings destroyed or damaged during the Cast Lead operation and the argument that they may serve Hamas for building bunkers – when more than enough materials for this purpose are brought into the Strip through the tunnels?
5. Is the real aim of the blockade to turn the lives of the 1.5 million human beings in the Strip into hell, in the hope of inducing them to overthrow the Hamas regime?
6. Since this has not happened, but – on the contrary – Hamas has become stronger during the three years of the blockade, did the government ever entertain second thoughts on this matter?
7. Has the blockade been imposed in the hope of freeing the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit?
8. If so, has the blockade contributed anything to the realization of this aim, or has it been counter-productive?
9. Why does the Israeli government refuse to exchange Shalit for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, when Hamas agrees to such a deal?
10. Is it true that the US government has imposed a veto on the exchange of prisoners, on the grounds that it would strengthen Hamas?
11. Has there been any discussion in our government about fulfilling its undertaking in the Oslo agreement - to enable and encourage the development of the Gaza port - in a way that would prevent the passage of arms?
12. Why does the Israeli government declare again and again that the territorial waters of the Gaza strip are part of Israel’s own territorial waters, and that ships entering them “infringe on Israeli sovereignty”, contrary to the fact that the Gaza Strip was never annexed to Israel and that Israel officially announced in 2006 that it had “separated” itself from it?
13. Why has the Attorney General’s office declared that the peace activists captured on the high seas, who had no intention whatsoever of entering Israel, had “tried to enter Israel illegally”, and brought them before a judge for the extension of their arrest under the law that concerns “illegal entry into Israel”?
14. Who is responsible for these contradictory legal claims, when the Israeli government argues one minute that Israel has “separated itself from the Gaza Strip” and that the “occupation there has come to an end” – and the next minute claims sovereignty over the coastal waters of the Strip?
Question concerning the decision to attack the flotilla:
15. When did the preparation for this flotilla become known to the Israeli intelligence services? (Evidence on this may be heard in camera.)
16. When was this brought to the attention of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, the Cabinet, the Committee of Seven (in charge of security matters) and the IDF Chief of Staff? (ditto)
17. What were the deliberations of these officials and institutions? (ditto)
18. What intelligence was submitted to each of them? (ditto)
19. When, by whom and how was the decision taken to stop the flotilla by force?”

Israel has broken international law both in its invasion of Gaza which was carried out as collective punishment for how the people of Gaza voted in 2006 and in the blockade which is also collective punishment. Under international law, civilians cannot be punished for how they vote and they cannot be collectively punished. The people on the boat were upholding international law by attempting to break the blockade. What is there to inquire into? Israel will carry out this farce and will exonerate themselves. Not only that but they will expect to be taken seriously. Even though the UN Inquiry into both the invasion and the blockade carried out under Richard Goldstone, a judge and an expert in international law, made findings like these:
1. The blockade
27. The Mission focused on the process of economic and political isolation imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip, generally referred to as a blockade. The blockade comprises measures such as restrictions on the goods that can be imported into Gaza and the closure of border crossings for people, goods and services, sometimes for days, including cuts in the
provision of fuel and electricity. Gaza’s economy is further severely affected by the reduction of
the fishing zone open to Palestinian fishermen and the establishment of a buffer zone along the
border between Gaza and Israel, which reduces the land available for agriculture and industry. In
addition to creating an emergency situation, the blockade has significantly weakened the
capacities of the population and of the health, water and other public sectors to respond to the
emergency created by the military operations.
28. The Mission holds the view that Israel continues to be duty-bound under the Fourth
Geneva Convention and to the full extent of the means available to it to ensure the supply of
foodstuff, medical and hospital items and other goods to meet the humanitarian needs of the
population of the Gaza Strip without qualification.
30. Statistics about Palestinians who lost their lives during the military operations vary. Based
on extensive field research, non-governmental organizations place the overall number of persons
killed between 1,387 and 1,417. The Gaza authorities report 1,444 fatalities. The Government of
Israel provides a figure of 1,166.
31. According to the Government of Israel, during the military operations there were four
Israeli fatalities in southern Israel, of whom three were civilians and one a soldier. They were
killed by rocket and mortar attacks by Palestinian armed groups. In addition, nine Israeli soldiers
were killed during the fighting inside the Gaza strip, four of whom as a result of friendly fire.
(In other words over 100 times as many Palestinians died as Israelis.)
52. The Israeli armed forces also carried out a strike against a wall of one of the raw sewage
lagoons of the Gaza wastewater treatment plant, which caused the outflow of more than 200,000
cubic metres of raw sewage onto neighbouring farmland. The circumstances of the strike suggest
that it was deliberate and premeditated. The Namar wells complex in Jabaliyah consisted of two
water wells, pumping machines, a generator, fuel storage, a reservoir chlorination unit, buildings
and related equipment. All were destroyed by multiple air strikes on the first day of the Israeli
aerial attack. The Mission considers it unlikely that a target the size of the Namar wells could
have been hit by multiple strikes in error. It found no grounds to suggest that there was any
military advantage to be had by hitting the wells and noted that there was no suggestion that
Palestinian armed groups had used the wells for any purpose. Considering that the right to
drinking water is part of the right to adequate food, the Mission makes the same legal findings as
in the case of the el-Bader flour mill.
What is there to inquire into? Israel is breaking international law and has now added murder and piracy on the high seas to its rap sheet.

No investigation conducted by any party involved in this incident can be expected to be impartial. Only a credible third party can conduct a good honest investigation.
Even if you feel Israel was completely in the right (a pretty untenable position in my opinion) an impartial investigation should be desired. No matter how impartial or accurate the Israeli investigation is in actuality, it will never be taken seriously by the world community unless it condemns these acts.
Its in everyone’s best interest to have a clear, impartial, and honest investigation into the truth of this incident conducted by an impartial third party.
