Update: click here to watch Truthdig’s five-word acceptance speech, delivered by publisher Zuade Kaufman and captured on video at the 2011 Webby Awards in New York City.

Once again, Truthdig has won the Webby Award, the juried version, in the “Blog—Political” category for the second year in a row. The competition consisted of four widely read sites on top of their game: “Close Read” on The New Yorker, Comedy Central’s Indecision, TheAtlantic.com Politics and The Huffington Post. This is Truthdig’s fourth Webby win overall, and we’re honored to have been nominated again and happy to share the win with our contributors and our readers. Click here to see the winning lineup.

Other online acts that will be honored at the 15th annual Webby Awards ceremony in New York City include “Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis,” NPR, Funny or Die, Angry Birds and ... Justin Bieber. Here’s more from the Associated Press about this year’s top Webby honors.

AP via Google News:

Justin Bieber took the People’s Voice award for best comedy video for his April Fool’s takeover of FunnyOrDie.com as “Bieber or Die.” The site’s home page was remade with clips featuring Bieber in famous viral videos.

The comedy site, co-founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, earned a total of nine awards. That included the Webby for best humor site and a People’s Voice award for Jim Carrey’s performance as Ronald Reagan in the site’s star-packed “Presidential Reunion” video.

“I always dreamed of winning a Webby,” Ferrell said. “In fact, in my dream I specifically win eight, so to win nine Webbys is beyond belief.”

The best political site by far. Congratulations Robert Scheer, Chris Hedges and all the staff. Thanks also to the posters and Mr. Fish, who provide a dose of entertainment while nudging the cerebral.

you gals and guys own this award, they should just rename it The Webby Truthdig Award.
Interesting that it is a “Political” award, that seems so narrow a definition of what this sight is.

It is all a scheme,... a coinkydink, all of a sudden Obama shows us his birth certificate and Osmosis ben Ladan has gone on to see his 72 vergins and Truth Dig has won the Webby award all with in one week,... there has to be something going on, I say this is a conspiracy!

Congratulations TD, good luck and I enjoy posting here.

It would be interesting to know a little more in detail what the criteria are in this competition.  As it is, we know we win but not why or how.
