Thousands of Jordanians protest in the capital, Amman, against the country’s prime minister and economic policies.

As protests continue to rock Yemen, Tunisia and Egypt, add Jordan to the list of troubled Arab states, as thousands of people took to the streets of Amman on Friday to demand political change and more freedom.

The protests come as Jordan struggles with its worst economic downturn in decades —JCL

Al-Jazeera English:

Thousands of people in Jordan have taken to the streets in protests, demanding the country’s prime minister step down, and the government curb rising prices, inflation and unemployment.

In the third consecutive Friday of protests, about 3,500 opposition activists from Jordan’s main Islamist opposition group, trade unions and leftist organisations gathered in the capital, waving colourful banners reading: “Send the corrupt guys to court”.

The crowd denounced Samir [Rifai], the prime minister, and his unpopular policies.

Many shouted: “Rifai go away, prices are on fire and so are the Jordanians.”

What seems to be spreading across the Middle East may
just find its way to Afghanistan.  After all, the
Afghanis hate Karzai with a passion, are suffering
wide-spread unemployment, hate Americans…if they
don’t take to the streets, it’ll be surprising.

The question to ponder is what will be our reaction
should it happen.

You think the Muslim Brotherhood will govern with benevolence and respect for civil rights for all? LOL

If you’re an Israeli, then your post is truely hypocritical.

Israel is an occupier and a racist state as it now exists.  A revolution there would be a welcome change to the status quo.

And yet the greedy free-market powers that be, Western & Middle Eastern & Eastern, still refuse to learn anything from history.  They still seem to believe that the great unwashed peasants can be fooled & manipulated or frightened into obedience so that they starve graciously…I pray for the people.

The obvious results of the Pandora’s Box opened by our “Boy” George in his obsessive quest to be a “War President”! Saudi Arabia can’t be far behind! How many fine young republicans do you think will have “other priorities” when we must find more troops to “bring democracy”(protect the oil) to the Middle East? Hey, maybe Israel can be talked into easing up on the Palestinians as a good faith gesture! I don’t think anyone will take Ma Clinton’s BS about free speech and assembly too seriously with BADLEY MANNING rotting in the Quantico brig for letting so many of Amerika’s “Felonious Felines” out of the bag! Can this be our Waterloo or Stalingrad in the making?

Yours is obviously a an extreme Zionist scheme to perpetuate the evil of fascist Israel and offer a cheap alternative to Palestinian rights and aspirations.

However, a revolution in Jordan and replacement of the puppet king will be the biggest worry for your colonialist, fascist Israel!

What they need to do is remove the unelected ruler-for-life king (really, who has a king these days?) and replace him with a government that respects the wishes of the people, so long as those wishes respect liberty, minorities’ rights, and the security of neighboring states. Finally, they can change the name of Jordan to what it should be - Palestine, and then we will have the two-state solution that already exists in everything but name.
