Richard Ellis

As one of the most immediate and well-publicized victims of climate change, polar bears have a vested interest in regulating greenhouse gas emissions.

As unsurprising as it is utterly stupid, a Republican-dominated House subcommittee has voted to strip the Environmental Protection Agency of the power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, while a parallel bill has been introduced in the Senate.

President Barack Obama has said he will veto any such legislation. —JCL

The New York Times:

A House subcommittee voted on Thursday to strip the Environmental Protection Agency of its power to regulate greenhouse gases, chipping away at a central pillar of the Obama administration’s evolving climate and energy strategy.

The sharply partisan vote was preordained by the Republican takeover of the House. Republicans and their industry allies accuse the administration of levying taxes on traditional energy sources through costly environmental regulations, threatening the economic recovery and driving jobs overseas.

Many Republicans also argue that global warming is an unproven theory and that no action is needed to combat it, and they are backed by lobbies representing manufacturers; small businesses; agriculture; and the chemical, coal and oil industries; all of which have a big financial stake in hamstringing the E.P.A.

Look, who wants dirty water to drink,or polluted air, or wildlife to be wiped out? Hopefully no one in their right mind. Nevertheless, you have to do a minimum amount of research to know a scam when it comes. The greenhouse gas line is for the masses whom posses very little critical thinking ability. You see many governments for decades now have been practicing weather modification.    There are endless documents proving this.

The mentalities stewarding the ship of fools headward into environmental degredation are far from few.  One obvious is a simple denial of any problem.  A second is an attitude which states to be damned with nature, I will be rich, secure, and in an insulated community for my duration.
One last important misbelief is one learned from a geology professor regarding the fallacy stated as “We are Smart”.  Somebody, somewhere will figure things out.  Repleating the ozone later synthetically, oil eating bacteria in the Gulf, etc.
This last mentality is a belief that there is a divine Providence in ‘progress’.  Continual growth and progress is inexorably for the better/Good.  This deranged thinking is faith based.
An inexorable belief in progress and technology is not only a failure to appreciate history but also lacks self evaluation

On the defunct thread about the Chris Hedges article on taking down the whole planet this topic was rolled over in every possible configuration. Of course there were right-bending bloggers who believed that AGW was just a theory promoted by dishonest scientists.
I have never seen appeal to reason and fact (science) ever move the Right off their self-centered Corporate-serving track to disenfranchise the middle class and prosper on the backs of the poor. At least the Dems make a show of such resistance, without actually bringing the corps to task.

More nonsense from Replicant knownothings (from McClatchy):

LAST week Michele Bachmann, a Republican representative from Minnesota, introduced a bill to roll back efficiency standards for light bulbs, which include a phasing out of incandescent bulbs in favor of more energy-efficient bulbs. The “government has no business telling an individual what kind of light bulb to buy,” she declared.

Opponents of the new standards, to be in place by 2014, draw on the odd-couple coalition of Tea Party Republicans and organized labor. They have positioned themselves as defenders of American tradition in the face of big government: another Republican representative, Joe Barton of Texas, waxed lyrically with two colleagues about “the incandescent bulb that has been turning back the night ever since Thomas Edison ended the era of a world lit only by fire in 1879.”

These people should be put away ...

Either the republicans are completely stupid(probably) or they have a gi-normous secret rocket hidden away ready to spirit them off to some idyllic planet once everything hits the fan here on terra firma(HA!). Sooner or later they’ve got to realize that pandering to the dolts and rubes that normally vote for them as well as helping their masters wring one last buck out of the planet is going to come back and bite them in the ass too! Can they really be that stupid? Hate to say it, but I think so!
