The Next Lamont?

Maybe not.  Although Jonathan Tasini would like to be the next maverick primary candidate to beat an entrenched pro-war Democrat—Hillary Clinton, in this case—he’s failed to garner anything near the support Ned Lamont managed against Joe Lieberman.

New York Times:

Mr. Tasini has qualified for the Sept. 12 primary ballot against Mrs. Clinton, and his positions on the Iraq war, the death penalty and gay marriage are in step with the progressive groups and liberal bloggers that contributed volunteers, money and buzz to Mr. Lamont. Yet some of these partisans say they are deeply reluctant, and in some cases scared, to criticize or abandon Mrs. Clinton, who supported the invasion of Iraq.

They cite her power in the Democratic Party and her careful positioning that has made her, if not antiwar, then a sharp critic of the administration’s handling of Iraq, Hurricane Katrina and the economy.

What’s going on here?  Hillary Clinton knew that our president was lying about those weapons of mass destruction, but was too weak to oppose the Iraq war. This makes her a public enemy number one type. If Lamont’s ousting of Lieberman sent a message to our supposed representatives in Congress, what’s a Tasini defeat of Clinton going to do?  No sense our holding back, progressives. Defeat Hillary Clinton and the democratic party is ours.  Alternatively, of course, we the people can do it ourselves, each and every one of us -  Change the world, that is.

it’s amazing that people are scared to go against hillary.  it is really frightening that in our democracy that we are supposedly exporting around the world people are afraid to go against an incumbant because of her power.

we all have a legitimate right to hear clinton and tasini debate and to make up our own minds as to whom would best serve our interests.  at the very least the fact that she refuses to debate tasini is telling about the state of our own democracy and who she is as a representative.

because of her stance for the war she is complicit in what has gone wrong in iraq, because she can’t seem to be straight with us and be a true leader in terms of the conflict between israel/palestine and now lebanon /she is complicit and responsible for what has gone wrong because she couldnt’ be straight with us on the dubai ports deal and couldn’t lead instead following and scapegoating as other senators have done hillary clinton is not fit to lead NY state or this country like the other incumbants.

we can’t be scared of their money or we will never as country take it back from the people who have led us so far astray.
