The Late Laughing Liberal Molly Ivins on Rick Perry

Molly Ivins, who died in 2007, was a barb in the side of many conservative political figures.

Molly Ivins was a popular humorist, liberal columnist and a Texan, and she knew Texas governor and now GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry well. As an antidote to Perry’s “Obama-bashing, evangelical-courting, tea party-outdoing campaign for the presidency,” which began last Saturday, Mother Jones has collected some of her most cutting gibes, taunts and sneers at the politician she nicknamed “The Coiffure” and “Governor Goodhair.” —ARK

Mother Jones:

When the next gubernatorial election cycle came around in Texas, Ivins had even more to say and write about Perry’s inadequacies. In her crosshairs this time: the faux-swagger that characterized his debating style:

The Coiffure was in his usual form. As one opponent after another attacked his record, Gov. Rick Perry stood there proudly behind that 35 percent voter support he has so richly earned and simply disagreed. The Coiffure seemed to consider blanket denials a fully sufficient and adequate response.

I am sorry I never met Molly because I read and enjoyed her more than any columnist in my lifetime.  In this “take-no-prisoner scorched-earth” atmosphere that our political culture has come to, her light-hearted approach would be just the relief we need. I do not delude myself, Molly would never change the atmosphere or the temperature.  Assholes are assholes, regardless who and how many people label them such.

I so miss Ms. Ivins columns and comments.  Wow, she was such a gifted intellect,
and so biting in her humor.  When she communicated the truth concerning then
President Bush and his wars in the middle east, she was not only on point, but she
was able to make it funny.  It really helped quash the anger so many Americans
felt against Bush.  Great woman.  I am so sorry that she had to pass away - no one
can fill her shoes.

Molly also knew what a phony Bush II was and constantly reminded him and us of it.

She is greatly missed.

Great picture of Molly here.
Didn’t always agree with her, but loved reading her columns.
Miss her.
