Newt Gingrich has his. Stephen Colbert has one too. And guess what? So does President Barack Obama. We’re talking about those giant, democracy-gobbling super PACs, and this election season, everybody who’s anybody has one—or rather, has one without directly having one, if you catch our drift.

Playing on the theme of bowing to campaign finance forces beyond their control, the president’s boosters asked supporters this week to ante up for their chosen candidate and give to Obama’s super PAC lest the other side win this Citizens United-sponsored race to the bottom.  —KA

These are the rules for this election.  The President
has decided to play by them, while at the same time
expressing his opposition to them.  You don’t bring a
knife to a gunfight and expect to survive.
