The Taliban addressed the statement to “Messers American Congressmen,” those people on Capitol Hill.

In an odd flipping of the political script, the Taliban has called on the U.S. Congress to dispatch a “fact-finding mission” to Afghanistan to probe what it calls the lies and propaganda used by the Pentagon and U.S. generals to extend and justify the war. —JCL

Agence France-Presse:

The Islamist militant group has been fighting for more than nine years to topple the Kabul government, which is backed by 150,000 US and NATO troops.

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

I think the Afghanis have a valid point here.

Time to curtail this military adventurism which we were warned about by the founders of this great nation and cut the purse strings to the military by whose booga booga Al Qaeda under your bed rhetoric keeps young people dying, both here and in Afghanistan.

Lets secure our own borders and bring back truth and sanity to our foreign policy.
