Strauss-Kahn Is a Free Man

A judge in New York on Tuesday dismissed all charges in the sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former chief of the International Monetary Fund.

In a hearing that lasted all of 13 minutes, the judge dismissed all seven charges—four felonies and three misdemeanors—effectively making Strauss-Kahn a free man after several months in jail and house arrest. Strauss-Kahn left the courthouse smiling. —BF

The Los Angeles Times:

“I am satisfied the people’s application was made in good faith .... I see no basis to deny the people’s application,” Judge Michael Obus said in upholding the prosecution’s request to drop the case.

Obus also said his decision was contingent upon an appellate court upholding his decision handed down earlier Tuesday to reject demands that a special prosecutor be assigned to the case. The attorney for the alleged assault victim filed a motion Monday accusing the district attorney of being biased against his client. Obus turned down the motion; a request for it to be reviewed by an appellate court was considered a formality and was not expected to affect the eventual outcome of the case.

From what I’ve read of him since the episode.. the man is a beast empowered by his office and money to do as he pleases.. His accuser is it seems also a person not worthy of our sympathy and support.

Who pulled the strings of the New York DA (then and now? ).. who encouraged the ‘victim’? Why did we know nothing of such a powerfully connected man prior to this scandal?

The political and monetary fallout from this sad episode is huge and many! We would never know the truth, even if we were to be allowed a trial. It’s as likely as not that ..  if he was a true challenge to Sarkozy and the establishment that he is lucky he didn’t get some radioactive isotope in his aperitif .. and end up a
cancer patient in Cuba.

Adios!

In the history of America has a rich white man ever been held accountable for the rape or sexual abuse of a black woman or a woman of color? If the accused were black anf the victim were white he would still be in jail awaiting trial.

@kerryrose: I don’t presume to know the truth about why this case was thrown out. Neither should you. Maybe Strauss-Kahn really did pull strings to get himself off the hook. Or maybe the maid really was being dishonest and making it difficult for the man—snake as he is—to be given a constitutionally-mandated fair trial. Spinning baseless, knee-jerk conjecture about legal proceedings that you don’t have first-hand knowledge of won’t do a service to public discourse about this case, or to cases of class rape in general.

Naive much?

You think that one of the most powerful men in the world does not have the ability to buy his way out of prosecution?

Where is the opinionated outrage displayed anywhere -
one had hoped for ever since this joke of a Court
decision became public ? Is this justice done ?
However, considering that this case involved a Jewish
Criminal, his Jewish Lawyer and, last but not least a
court deciding Jewish Judge, adds insult to injury.
If that alone is not convincing,as to why 90% of this
country express anti–Semitic Jew hating, you go figure.

What a short collective memory we have.  Something stunk
about this story from the get-go.

As a follow-up to a previously posted comment on this topic, I just learned from CNN that today’s earthquake struck at the very moment that a news conference was held in the courtroom to celebrate the verdict of justice for Straus-Khan.

I find this a very strange coincidence, and I am inclined to believe that some Metaphysical Super Power, call it the God of Justice or the Devil of Injustice, was trying to send a message of warning against the travesty of justice that was taking place!

@Arabian Sinbad: Jesus, dude. Spew vile much? Here I thought the TruthDiggers claiming that Strauss-Kahn’s prosecution was paid off had gotten a wee bit paranoid. But on behalf of the Jewish pupper masters of America, thank you for correcting that presumption.

Since when does a lawyer have to believe a client in order to represent them?

Is this a new standard of ethics for lawyers?

More likely the prosecution was paid off, and received more than they ever would if they had won.

This is very sad. The woman’s lawyer decided to drop charges against her will.  Someone paid him off, or he was punishing her for going public.

I actually thought for one second that a rich and powerful man was going to be held accountable for his behavior. That would have been a surprise.  This, unfortunately is not.
