U.S. Missile Defense Agency

An infrared image of the Missile Defense Agency’s airborne laser testbed (right) destroying a short-range ballistic missile.

In news that would make Han Solo proud, the U.S. Missile Defense Agency has shot down a ballistic missile using a high-powered laser. The technology, which never, ever worked in the past, is criticized by some as weaponizing space and others as a colossal waste of resources. —JCL

The Guardian:

The US this week achieved a goal that has eluded it since Ronald Reagan’s Star Wars programme by knocking out a ballistic missile using a high-powered laser beam mounted on a plane.

The successful test was carried out yesterday in California, the US Missile Defence Agency (MDA) said, making real what had previously been confined to the realms of science fiction.

The plane uses a combination of lasers to lock on to the missile and track its trajectory, and then bring it down with a single shot fired from the nose turret, all in less than 12 seconds.

At 12 seconds/strike, how many missiles can one laser stop in succession, and how wide is one laser’s range?

When I saw Professor David Ray Griffin’s name as having done the foreword to the book, “America in Peril” by Bob Aldridge, I perked up, because Professor Griffin was the first person I was aware of that was brave enough to broadcast scientific evidence relative to the 9/11/01 assault on America showing the attack to be an “inside job”, which of course has been covered up extensively by the conservative movement that took over Congress.

Humanitarian law is definitely being eroded.  I think this website is great, I will repost it:

The pictures were presented as fact, but according to Fact Check, nothing has to be fact that is reported, so this report could easily not be fact.  Our government is cool with lies being presented as fact, otherwise, lies as fact would not be considered freedom of speech, but they are.  Lies as facts are legal.  It was reported on the news today, and to check it out on Fact Check and I checked it out here, and, sadly, it is so.  Of course, lies told by the populace is a whole different story, but as far as the politicians and the professionals are concerned whatever you can get the populace to believe is legal.

Right-Wing sophists and propagandists spread disinformation (lies) as if it is legitimate objective facts and lumpen-proletariat Right-Wingers follow the disinformation (lies) spread by Right-Wing sophists and propagandists against their own best interests as if it is “Holy Writ” from God; and, everyone watching the dumb show in both the Republican Party and Democratic Party leadership go along to get along, because they all know that playing the game helps both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party maintain political control over the 70% Majority Common Population, the American Populace, Back Street America, and denies the American Populace representation by a legitimate political party and a seat at the legislative table to make and enforce law and order that is in the best interest of the American populace.  This is the American Way and it is all done in the name of God, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness with freedom and justice for all.

It was said on a news report today that my state of Oklahoma is one of the 6th hungriest states in the nation and we know those hungry people are of the liberal populace, but since this is a conservative Republican state, ironically they are probably all voting Republican against their best interest and never knowing why, because they believe like children the disinformation, misinformation, propaganda and sophistry told to them by the politicians, the media and the propagandized churches.

((Ivan Oelrich, a physicist and vice-president for strategic security programmes at the Federation of American Scientists, said: “What would be interesting would be how far away it [the missile] is.” He said that to be useful, the laser would have to be able to shoot down missiles from at least 100 miles. It would also be expensive to keep one or more planes on stations waiting for a missile.))

That is why satellites are better as is using particle beams instead of photonic ones which can scatter more readily and be reflected. I wonder how a highly polished coat on those missiles would work? Also just load the field with cheaper dummy missiles and that ends several layers of your “defense” unless you have a way of pinpointing the ones with actual nuclear warheads. I have other ideas too to defeat such systems and I’m not even a scientist.]

Interestingly some of the long range planners in Nazi Germany envisioned such a “defensive” system of missile and energy weapon platforms that also work every well as offensive weapons.* Dr. Hermann Oberth had the idea for a solar powered satellite weapon 16 miles square of reflective panels that could align and concentrate solar radiation to beam it down as deadly rays from space on any city in any country. It could still be built now. I call it “Fire Drake’s Eye.”

*Also a space plane for cargo and as a hypersonic weapon to fly around the world to deal destruction against hapless countries or rebels.

Put this with the 40 year plan of drones for the Drone Wars and we are starting to approach the “Star Wars” franchise for real with the ‘droid armies on the Empire’s side! They want ultimate control from space to the deep oceans and all layers in between. “Full spectrum dominance” is the nomenclature they use.

Hundreds of billions over 40 years for a single close quarters “kill” at an in house
range under friendly tactical and environmental conditions is not a success. It is
however ongoing evidence of massive premeditated failure of the DOD weapons
management and a multi decade heard of cash cows and bulls**t for the
congressional weapons industry complex. No story here, just more false info and
propaganda. Much the same has been accomplished and reported before under
different acronym code names. What do we not know? Just another one of the
dozens of extremely high profit, low defense value to American taxpayer citizens “defense” projects.
More Ragun era pay to play from the DARPA DOD star wars follies.

Horrible reporting. This program was canceled two years ago when they admitted it was a fraudulent idea, and converted to a test platform. It was supposed to shoot down missiles 200 miles away, but couldn’t even do 40 miles. A fighter with a missile could shoot it down at that range.

We will not have 747s flying circles over North Korea or Iran.  Even if it could shoot down at 200 miles, it doesn’t work in cloudy weather or if the missile is designed to slowly spin, like most do anyway.

Great comments. MarthaA, I suspect the pictures presented as fact but are just pictures, is meant to create a climate of fear to obscure the truth that the program is just A WELFARE PROGRAM for the CORPORATE AND WEALTHY WELFARE KINGS. It might also serve as a reminder to the militia’s in Idaho whom have taken the high ground to drive off a USG invasion have just made themselves easy targets for the nano technology weapon that are being developed which are the size of an insect with lethal capabilities.

Is this a legitimate test? Given the size of the signature of the 747, the target
in the video would have to be very very close
Given there is a video with a laser beam you shouldn’t be able to see at 1.38
microns…  we have no evidence
that anything happened,
Was the target outfitted with a cooperative beacon? The range and engagement
angle are crucial. Given the spot size in the article, that also means that the
target was very close range. This short range fits with the angular separation
seen in the video. At short range, the adaptive optics is not tested, and
therefore the test has no bearing on whether the ABL would function at
operational ranges. . Speaking of the video, what sensor did they use to detect
the 1.38 micron beam? It falls outside of the standard FLIR windows. In fact,
how does one see a laser beam that well at angles normal to the propagation?
For it to be that visible there would have to be either a tremendous amount of
scattering or heating of the atmosphere. Both effects at that level would spell
doom for operating at real ranges. Assuming that the video is real, of course ...

25 years and 10’s of $billion spent to pass a test. wow, no idiot left behind. I didn’t know the Taliban and/or al qaeda had missle technology and weapons. As far as its stated purpose to protect human American citizens only a idiot would believe that. The purpose of the Pentagon is to protect the investments of the CORPORATE AND WEALTHY WELFARE KINGS Solar System wide. This technology is 25 years too late but then its purpose is graft and corruption using the smoke screen of national security. This has been successful by keeping American in imagined fears. Here’s a quote by Deitrich, Hitlers security chief in 1933, about Himmlers"creating a climate of fear to obscur the truth”.

I see the Conservatives Star Wars high powered lasers as a means of controlling the populace when they get it perfected, rather than protecting the nation from other countries, time will tell.
